Sam carried the lad, still clinging faithfully to his bonded, until they reached a small clearing. The clearing wasn't too far away from where they'd met those Peisios, but Samael still doubted that they were followed. Those Dragons wouldn't have the water to back them up if they came all the way out here. The large Drakein set the boy down, flexing his jaw and neck to shake the strain of carrying someone in such an awkward position..
Mae was plopped onto the grassy ground directly on his bottom. The jarring motion earned a few disgruntled peeps from Darke, who was now more eager than ever to escape from Maeron's grasp. But the lad wasn't having any of that, and he wound his arms protectively around the youngster, rubbing his fingers against one of Darke's feathery cheeks to help quell him. Those Dragons... There hadn't been a thing Mae could do to stop them. And Darke was so young and defenseless, he hadn't even known to keep his voice down. But Sam... Sam had magic. And his teeth and claws. Mae bet that Drakein could've taken on those Peisios if he hadn't been worried for him and Darke... Why did he save them, anyway? Maeron should've just been a Magescian to him... Someone that took over the Drakein's land, stole their eggs, and should be attacked... "Thank you..." Maeron whispered quietly, watching Darke as he rubbed vigorously against the lad's hand.
Sam shook his head as he smiled down at the pair. "Don't worry about it." The brown Drakein replied just as softly. It wouldn't feel right to let a young child be eaten by Dragons, especially if that kid had a Drakein life in his hands like this one did. But he did hope this boy realized that he couldn't just traipse around, anymore. He had to be watchful and diligent, or else something bad may happen...
But Mae was worried about it. How could he not be? This was his home, and he'd been attacked here. Which meant he probably wasn't safe anywhere else he went, either. And he wanted to travel. Soon. How was he to protect himself anywhere else. His gaze wandered up the the large Drakein. Sam seemed to know a lot about these beasts. Mae could only imagine how many creatures he'd slain... "Teach me." The words slipped from his lips before he could even think about them, but even once said, he didn't regret it. Mae did like to learn. Though he doubted a Drakein would be anywhere near as good a teacher as a fellow Orderite would be. But Mae didn't know anyone in the city well enough to ask them, and if Sam was genuinely worried about him and Darke... Maybe he wouldn't have a problem with it?

"Huh?" The Drakein's green orbs went wide in response as he stared at the boy. He could be hallucinating, but he was pretty sure the Orderite had just asked him... for help? And Sam wasn't entirely sure how he felt about that. The lad wasn't a Drakein. He didn't have any skills with magic or a weapon, as far as Sam could see. What was he supposed to teach him...? Still, maybe if he just saw how Sam went about dismantling Dragons, he'd be able to handle more on his own. And that would make the youngling safer, as well. "I guess I can show you how I do it..." Samael agreed steadily.
The Orderite's teal orbs brightened, and he rewarded Sam with a full-blown smile. Even young Darke ceased his peeping to turn pleasantly pleased blue saucers on the larger Drakein. "Thank you!" Maeron beamed, giving Darke what must have been a too-rough squeeze in his excitement. The Keinling let out a stained chirp, then huffed when Mae released him. The young thing nipped at his companion's arm in retribution, but the lad didn't seem to mind too terribly much.
Sam flicked his tail. "I guess we could head back toward those Peisios..." He thought out loud. "But you two will need to keep a safe distance away! I don't want any trouble!" The Gaili warned firmly. Maeron agreed hastily, and the group set off at a walk. The led had his companion tossed over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes, but Darke didn't seem to mind very much. His claws kneaded pleasantly against Mae's scarf, and he had a good view of everything. Plus, he didn't have to walk, and he wasn't shoved in that bag! What wasn't there to enjoy? He peeped softly in the Orderite's ear every so often.
As they drew nearer to the lake, Sam warned them yet again to stay back. Peisios were tough Dragons, especially with someone so young around... He didn't want to risk them getting hurt. But Mae could still watch. Sam was pleased to find that the early warning had actually done him a favor. One of the Dragons from earlier was standing at the edge of the lake, sniffing around. It was the perfect first target. Especially since it was alone. Sam turned to his two students. "Okay," He whispered quietly. "I'm going right in for the kill on this one, so watch carefully! Mae nodded eagerly.
Satisfied with the response, Sam sauntered out. He still had to keep true to his promise to himself: that he wouldn't surprise attack an unprepared Dragon, no mater how much of a disadvantage it put him at. He stalked up to the beast, waiting for it to raise its head and hiss in recognition before Sam jumped at it. The Dragon was easily able to flip him over and pounce, like Sam's attack had never happened, but as the beast dove for his neck, a jutting slab of earth erupted from the earth and speared the Dragon right through the eye, and out the side of its head. It stilled instantly before disintegrating into two orbs.

"Woah!" Mae gasped in surprise. Despite Sam's earlier warning, he darted up to the scene, still lugging Darke over his shoulder. "That was amazing, Sam!" The boy told him, eyes bright and full of wonder as he inspected the earthy protrusion. His fingers glided over the point of it, following it back down to the ground. Amazing! Even the blood had disappeared with the Dragon! He leaned over to pick up one of the two orbs. It was the first time he'd actually held one. Smooth and pretty and blue. "So, is this one for me?" He questioned, turning his teal gaze up to the large Drakein.
Sam wanted to demand he return to the safety of the trees this instant. He'd only killed one of the Dragons; there were still others out here! But judging by the wonder on the lad's face, Sam doubted he would even hear anything the Drakein said, let alone actually obey it. But Sam was still feeling cautious. He glanced around wearily as the Orderite inspected his handiwork. But that little voice drew his attention again. "Oh, I guess so. Sam shrugged, glancing at the orb Me offered him. Well, one more for his collection, as well. He accepted it gladly. "But you still shouldn't be out here! Sam commanded. "Those Dragons could-!" He was cut off with a yelp of surprise as he was slammed into. Sam had just enough time to see Mae squeak and scurry behind his earth projectile before the Drakein was turning widened emerald orbs on his attacker.
Another of the Peisio Dragons had smashed into him, sending him to the ground. It wasted no time in diving for his prone frame, a heavy paw swiping painfully down his underbelly. Sam hissed in response, pulling his hind legs between him and the Peisio and giving his opponent an equally painful battering. The Dragon reared up and away from the attack, ready to come crashing down with all his weight on Sam's stomach.
"Hey!" Mae shouted, chucking a small rock at the beast's head. It connected, leaving the Peisio relatively unharmed, but still confused. It turned its attention away from Sam briefly, to lay murky grey eyes on the lad. Maeron's heart froze, and he stilled as that gaze hit him. But only for a second. With the Dragon distracted, Sam launched himself up to latch his teeth into the beast's neck, giving it a fearsome shake. It roared in surprise, swatting at him in confusion until it finally gave a choke of defeat, and disintegrated between his teeth.

Mae was more hesitant about leaving his safety behind this time, meager as it was. Still, he felt obligated to emerge from his cover and approach the brown Drakein. He shifted Darke back to the safety of his arms to be able to hold him better as he walked over to Sam. Are you alright? He whispered, his teal gaze landing on the gash in Sam's stomach.
The big Drakein had rolled back onto all fours after his attack, making his wound slightly harder to see, but he nodded at Mae's question. It hurt, and every now and then he was pretty sure he lost another drop of blood to the earth below, but it didn't feel fatal, at least. Still, they should probably hobble away from here before another attack... Sam took a few steps forward, using his tail to sweep Mae ahead of him.
But a rumbling drew both of their attentions, and Sam glanced over his shoulder to see a third Peisio drawing itself from the water. The sounds of the commotion before, coupled with the scent of his blood must have attracted the large Dragon. "Go on, Mae!" Sam commanded, turning to face the beast. "It's too dangerous for you and Darke, now. If something should happen... He turned to look over his shoulder, only to see that the boy had promptly departed, without even waiting for him to finish speaking. Oh, well. Surely they'd make it to safety, at least...
The Dragon shot a jet of water at him, which Sam was able to deflect with a beam of earth. But the large beast didn't wait for the counter-attack. He lunged at Sam, knocking him to the ground. In his weakened state, Sam thought for sure it was all over for him... The Dragon would no doubt rip him to shreds and feed the remains to his younglings... Sam winced as the thing towered over him, expecting the worst.
But a loud, obnoxious, high-pitched screech filled the air, making the Dragon hesitate. Only a mere moment later, a flash of purple flew from the trees, landing squarely on the beast's back. All Sam could do was gape as, armed with a stick, Mae bludgeoned the creature, beating it repeatedly over the head with his makeshift weapon. The Dragon roared and tossed its head, swinging around to try and dislodge the boy, but Mae was latched tight, his legs locked firmly around its neck. He beat and stabbed ferociously with his stick, until, finally, the beast fell to the ground. Mae of course continued to wallop it until it had disintegrated into two new treasures. Panting, the boy collected their prizes, handing Sam his. "Now..! We can go..!" he choked out.
