As we all know I adore Anders character and his story. Recently I decided that I would do a Rival romance with him which is something I've never done over my 100+ play-throughs.(mind this is all speculations and my sickening obsession with him)
Watching the Friendship romance I felt like Hawke fueled the flame towards the destruction of the Chantry and depending on your choice his death.(This meaning you 100000% agree with him on everything and never pick a jest or a harsh comeback.) By saving him and not killing him you basically follow him blindly across Thedas on his "free mages" quest (I assume since THOSE BASTARDS NEVER GIVE US CLOSURE XD)and allow Justice to take complete control over him,or his calling comes,or Hawke realizes he's literally insane and leaves.
Now as a I painfully did the rival romance I saw more of "Real" Anders trying to fight against the "spirit" Justice instead of allowing himself to be controlled by him and he ends up leaving Hawke in the end(meaning when Varric speaks to everyone leave Anders is not spoken to have not left Hawke's side) Though he vows he will always love Hawke and is willing to correct his wrong unlike when you side with the Templars in a Friendship romance with him. (I mean if you pick mage either friendship or rival he'll agree to come with if spared)
So I wonder if any of the other characters have the same transition since I refuse to romance anyone,but Anders.(I really tried not to go for Anders my last play through,but I couldn't do it xD)
I tried to rival romance fenris but I cant bring myself to be mean to him and I kill slavers, but i side with anders and the mages with most things while at the same time believing what the chantry says about the black city and how the blights got started with the tevintar mages(both mages and regular people are dangerous). So as you can see I am all over the place lol. In the end I side with the mages and he sides with me saying basically he thinks i am making a mistake but he wont abandon me. I romance fenris every play through, regardless.
Dont even get me started on Sebastian his F-romance pisses me off and his R-romance isn't much better. If you rival romance Sebastian him you get to see more of his personality with less chantry preaching.
I have seen Merrills rival romance and it is really good, very emotionally and dramatic. I mean she is pissed at you through most of the game, but by the end she cools down. I am against blood magic (for more than just moral reasons) so the friendship thing is kinda out the window.
Wouldn't touch Isabella with a ten foot pole, wouldn't want my hawk to get ever STD in Thedas. Shes nice, expect for the betrayal thing but yea would NEVER romance her.
Anders I still have mixed feelings about, so no opinion really...sorry.
