The sun seemed to have retreated since earlier that morning, and with it's departure came a soft, easily ignored drizzle. Peyton glanced up at the clouds over head, lips twitching thoughtfully to one side, before leveling her gaze on the young man standing across from her. Another fresh face. It made her wonder how many hunters had woken up in the past few months. The island has seemed so close-knit and small when she'd stepped out of her pod, and now newbies were popping up all over the place. "Noah?" She chanced, smiling across at her opponent, fingers flexing at her sides as she called Warrick to her hands. Under different circumstances she might have been feeling cocky. Winning round one was a nice little confidence booster, but she still had a handicap to work around, and she knew another win wouldn't be easily obtained. If she wanted it, she was going to have to work for it, and even then, luck might not be on her side. Only one way to find out though. Ready War?< Always>

Noah swallowed hard and nodded at the pretty blond girl who had stepped into the ring with him. "H-hi, you must be Peyton," he said, though his voice turned up at the end of the sentence, making it not quite a question. He'd assumed he was going to be fighting another guy, somehow. Was this fair? She was summoning a weapon, though, and her coat had the Sun division symbol. And, he reminded himself, because of the way he'd been been placed in the tournament, she'd already beaten someone before this fight. He'd better not underestimate her. He summoned Lazarus and set his feet firmly in the sand. ... she was pretty. It was kind of distracting. TIME FOR FIGHTING, NOT FOR MATING, Lazarus growled. Noah turned bright red.

The smile grew into a grin. "That's me." With a motion of practiced ease the girl shrugged out of her coat and draped it over the rope before taking a few steps closer to the center of the ring. There were a lot of things she didn't mind getting dirty, but the crisp white jacket was not one of them. "Are you ready for this?" Did it matter if he wasn't? Nope. She noticed the blush, but had no idea what it pertained to. That wasn't really important at the moment anyways. Even still injured she was eager, excited to be head to head with another person. It was why she was perfect for Sun. Peyton didn't back down or run away, it just wasn't in her. "Here we go, Noah." Hands came up, and she was moving forward. HP: 40 DMG: - prolixity Nice opening shot, Peyton. Very nice.

"I, I guess," Noah stammered, and backed up a little as she prowled forward, eyeing her nervously. She looked like she knew what she was doing. He'd done okay against Al, he reminded himself, and firmed his stance again.
As Peyton got closer, Noah swung Lazarus at her, his longer arms and the length of Lazarus's blade letting him get in an attack before she could. He felt the drag and bite of a hit, and Lazarus growled low with satisfaction at the taste of Fear skimmed from the other weapon's shield.
WE BITE, the weapon said, and the sense of him was all attentive readiness.

God damn long arms!
Peyton jerked back as the blade bit into her shield, slashing at Noah's hand as as the swing followed through. She was going to have to get around that long reach, get close enough that his range meant nothing.

The way Peyton jerked back, her weapon barely scratching him, gave Noah a little more confidence. When he moved again, he felt Lazarus lunge with him, and though the sense of movement was entirely internal it seemed to give a little extra weight to his swing, a heavy, descending arc that landed with a thud he could feel all the way up his arm.
Lazarus growled, muffled, as though he had something between his teeth, and Noah thought he tasted copper. It was pleasant, and the feeling of liking it jarred him out of the moment. He yanked back, his eyes going startled. "Sorry!"

Noah wasn't half bad. He moved, regaining a little distance, and his blade bit into her side, hard and solid. The force was enough to make her stagger, and she widened her eyes at him before the shadow of a smile returned at the apology. "Why sorry?"
It was a battle tournament, there was no need to be sorry for a well aimed attack.
She did take advantage of that momentary hesitation though, darting forward until she was right up in his personal bubble. Spiked knuckles took him low in the chest as she brought her right first upward, digging into him.

"I, uh. I don't know," he admitted, feeling kind of stupid now that he thought about it. This was supposed to be a tournament, after all. The distraction of thinking about it let her get in close, the spiked knuckle weapon digging into his chest and forcing the air out of his lungs, and he stumbled back a step, gasping, taking a wild swing with the cleaver as he did. It was mostly luck that the blade landed.

The cleaver came at her again and she tried to jerk away from it, but his reach was too long, and the blade took her in the arm. She hissed, more from frustration then pain.
<Get it together, Halfpint. He's making you look bad.>
Aware of that, thanks.
<So get it together!
Warrick snarled in her head, and Peyton drove forward, fueled by not only her own impatience and disappointment, but War's as well.
Speed and agility let her close that short gap and skate around his arm, and she drove the blade of her left hand into his side before pivoting around and doing the same with her right. The first blow was nothing, a scratch, laughable from a Sun, but the second hit it's mark, and there was power behind it.

"Get 'im, Pey," Jordan called encouragingly from the top of a dune well back and out of the way. This looked like it was going to be decided by how well Peyton could keep that distance closed. If she could keep the taller boy crowded back, she'd have this one.
He hunkered down to watch. He'd missed her first fight while he was getting patched up from his own defeat, but had arrived before this one ended. She was fierce, and it made him grin.

The first hit was deceptively light, and Noah wasn't at all ready for the second when it landed. He huffed an astonished gasp and stumbled back again, wide-eyed, his right hand going to clutch his side. Lazarus voiced a long, low, bubbling howl, his fury seeping through the bond. BITE HER, the weapon snarled, and yanked at Noah's mind, demanding.
Noah let the jolt of the pull impel him, his hand dropping from his side as he half-crouched, left arm drawing back almost by itself. He assessed Peyton impassively, then sprang at her, bringing Lazarus up and then around in a red-tinged, flashing arc that buried the blade deep into her side.

Her last hit was a heady thing, it left her grinning, and the feeling only intensified as she heard Jordan's voice from the sidelines. He'd promised to come watch her, but he'd missed her first match, probably fighting in his own, but he was here now.
It was a distraction though, and it gave Noah an opening to exploit, and boy did he take advantage of it. The blade bit into her side, sinking deeply, and Peyton let out a startled cry as the force of it knocked her off her feet.
She was never one to stay down for long though, and she was pushing herself up before the other trainee had even finished his follow through. She lunged at him, dragging her blade up the line of the arm holding the cleaver as she moved past him.

She was like a cat, back up on her feet as soon as she'd fallen, and Noah's satisfaction at having landed the hit was immediately lost in the line of pain that her weapon drew up along his arm, shocking down into his fingers. He yelped and backpedaled, swinging at her as he moved back, catching her arm.
There was someone watching, he realized, and he tried hard to ignore the fact. It made him nervous.

He struck her arm, and she turned away from the blow, pivoting on her heel so she could drive the blade in right hand back and into his thigh.
Noah was new to this, but he wasn't giving an inch. Peyton appreciated a good fight, and this newbie was giving her one.
