 First, nothing.
Then a flutter of eyelashes, a slow first breath.
Finally, awareness, and movement. A smooth motion to an upright position.
A gasp of horror.
A small body of a foal, lying on the ground before her, his still body covered in drying blood, still gently oozing from fearsome wounds. She doesn't recognize him, but it does not matter.
Someone must pay.
The path of blood leads to a strange thicket - but no matter. She will find the monster.

A blood-red thicket block her way, yet Rise is angry - as angry as she has seldom been - and it does not stop her for long. She hacks into the vines with no mercy, and it gives under her ferocious attacks, revealing a way forward, which Rise promptly uses. Her anger pushes her forward, and Rise does not stop to ponder the murky water. When the pike attacks, she is happy to have a chance to release her tension, and she kicks at it, but the pike manages to mostly dodge the blow. Thankfully, Rise's next blow is the finishing one - perhaps her persistance finally payed off. She takes a minute to breathe, and continues on to the other bank. A final push is all that is needed for the doe to push herself over the ledge - and as she does so, she notices another piece of fur, but this one is much more lightly colored. With horror, she realises it belonged to the slaughtered foal, and blood roars in her ears as she continues on.
