Name: Rhys Banner
Nickname: None, really; Rhys doesn't shorten well
Age: 19
Birthday: September 25
Sign: Libra
Gemstone: Sapphire
Blood Type: AB
Fav. Food: Curry, usually homemade; but really anything spicy!
Hated Food: Bland things; if it doesn't have taste it is not worth it.
School: Destiny City University, theater major
Hobbies: Theater || Rhys was initially introduced to theater through his closest friend, Alistair, when they were both young - and while he was initially skeptical (or as skeptical as a ten-year-old gets), over time he discovered that he absolutely loves it. He slips well into villain roles, especially the manipulators. (There is no one he enjoys playing more than Shakespeare's Iago.) He gets very into characters, and onstage is the only time he truly feels confident and comfortable in his own skin. He was pushed into majoring in it by his parents, particularly his father (who is a well-regarded literary scholar, and places an exceedingly high value on the written word and the performing arts).
Visual Novels || Rhys loves visual novels. It's a little embarrassing and kind of horrifically nerdy, but he has dozens of them. Most are on PC since it's easy to get English-language patches, but he has a few for the DS and PSP (the PSP ones were an interesting adventure and required custom firmware, but it's all worth it as far as he's concerned because PC PSP emulators are awful.) VNs are sort of a quiet hobby, but he does participate in discussion forums online and he has a tumblr almost solely dedicated to them. It's a little embarrassing, and actually finding his VN stash is a good way to turn him into a mumbling embarrassed moron.
Cooking || Rhys loves cooking and eating and serving food to people. He's fairly talented at it, and he watches all kinds of cooking shows and has a rather large collection of cookbooks. As much as he does love theater, he sees his real destiny as being in the restaurant industry; preferably as an executive chef or a chef-owner of a restaurant in New York or New Orleans or even back home in London. However, this is a large point of contention between him and his parents - they are happy to let him take evening classes and such to indulge a hobby, but have both, separately, told him that while he is decent, he is certainly not good enough to go anywhere, and he should therefore pursue theater, which they both view as his real talent. Rhys personally considers the discussion tabled, not necessarily done, and so while he has declared a theater major he hopes to persuade his parents to allow him to switch.
Virtues: Determined || When Rhys wants something, he will have it. He almost never gives up, and will do whatever needs to be done to get it, or to complete a necessary task or achieve a goal. He throws himself most into things for others, within limits - Rhys isn't going to do your homework for you, but he will absolutely help you with it and he is a practiced master at organizing (or, failing that, doing) group projects - but when he finds time for them, his own desires - theater practice, cooking classes, schoolwork, just about everything - get just as much attention.
Generous || Rhys will always put the people he cares about before himself. He doesn't even give it a second thought - he is especially determined to ensure that they are happy. He will forever tell himself that what he wants doesn't matter, and that his happy as long as they are. It's even, for the most part, true. A lot of Rhys's self-worth is tied up in his friends and in their success, and so he is always going to prioritize them first.
Apparently Confident || Fake it until you make it, this is Rhys's creed. While he isn't particularly self-assured, he absolutely projects that aura - no matter how much he hates himself, everyone should think exactly the opposite. He tries to always be smiling and friendly, no matter what he's feeling under the surface, and presents a thoroughly confident front rather than let anyone see that he's not. Lack of confidence is weakness, and weakness is dangerous. He also turns his confident act into a sort of sly, easy charm - which is just as affected, but still pretty successful in getting people to like him.
Flaws: Self-Sacrificing || Rhys will literally set anything aside to make sure the people he cares about are happy. This often means that his own needs fall second, and for a friend, he will happily sacrifice anything at all. As much as he pretends that he is happy as long as they are, it still ends with him losing things he wants or needs. Never mind that eventually people do start to notice, and they don't always find it a good thing.
Low Self-Esteem || Rhys has a lot of trouble seeing the good in himself. He can't help but see himself as less than his friends and the people he cares for; they are wonderful and amazing and truly confident, and he is the one that does what he has to to make sure they stay happy. Even with his carefully crafted facade, sometimes it slips, and it's pretty blatant when it does.
Manipulative || Rhys really will do anything to help the people he cares about - and sometimes, that means using the people he cares about less to do it. Sometimes, people need a push in the right direction to do what's best for them, and if it takes underhanded, manipulative tactics, directed at them or at the people around them, to get them there? Well, Rhys does what he has to do to make it happen. It usually works, but sometimes it blows up in his face, and he's lost friends because they realized what he was doing, because they feel he is invalidating them or because he manipulated someone close to them for their "benefit."
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION
Eyes: Big, round, violet
Hair: Long, dark blue, generally worn in a ponytail
Face: Round, freckles over his nose and cheeks, light skin
Body Type: Rhys is 6'2", fairly slim and wiry.
Clothes: Classy-casual; nice shirts paired with upscale jeans; rectangular black-rimmed glasses

Knight Title: Ploutonion Page of Saturn
Challenge: "All men must die."
Uniform:
CC~
Weapon --
Page: A pomegranate
Squire: A wand, topped with a delicate sculpted pomegranate Magic: Ploutonion waves his wand, and behind him, a black gate rises out of the earth. It swings open, and a howling torrent of ghostly figures pours out, which will appear to affected characters as the shades of those they feel they have failed, hurt, abandoned, or lost. (If the character has no one in their past who fits this description, they are merely creepy gray shades.) They make a terrifying howling wail. This effect extends for 8 feet around Ploutonion, and he can channel for up to 40 seconds.
Knight: A staff, topped with a delicate crystal pomegranate Magic: Ploutonion taps his staff on the ground, and behind him, a black gate rises out of the earth. It swings open, and a howling torrent of ghostly figures pours out, which will appear to affected characters as the shades of those they feel they have failed, hurt, abandoned, or lost. (If the character has no one in their past who fits this description, they are merely creepy gray shades.) They make a terrifying howling wail, and cause the temperature in the area they are in to drop immediately (to "cold enough to see your breath" levels - if it's already that cold, no change). This effect extends for 10 feet around Ploutonion, and he can channel for up to 60 seconds.

hello yes i am here to crit you Usual disclaimer applies, you know I'm not anything approaching official, if anything rings false please tell me to ******** right off etc. heart You know how to write a profile and you don't need hand-holding so I'm just going to cut right to the chase and not pat your ego too much along the way. General stuffLOOKS GOOD. HobbiesTheater - How long ago did he get into this? Why did he decide to major in it? Visual novels - ALSO LOOKS GOOD. Cooking - I'd like to know a little bit more about how Rhys got into cooking and what his training is. Why is he majoring in theater if he's interested in a culinary career? Wouldn't it make more sense for him to major in Culinary Arts or Nutrition or Food Science (and maybe minor in business management) and do theater as an extracurricular (in student clubs and community productions)? VirtuesDetermined - What happens when something is out of Rhys's reach? Does he ever admit defeat, or just come back stronger? Self-Sacrificing - I get that you're trying to do the "it's both a virtue and a flaw!" thing and it's working but Self-Sacrificing, as a title, has negative connotations. Consider "Generous" for the virtue side of this, perhaps? Apparently confident - looks good! FlawsSelf-Sacrificing - yes, good, this name makes sense down here where it should have negative connotations. Looks good otherwise, nothing to add. Low Self-Esteem - Could you go further into detail about what happens when Rhys's facade slips? What does he do to show that he is feeling down? Does he want to be paid attention to or left alone in those circumstances? Manipulative - Looks good! Physical descriptionBODY TYPE? HEIGHT? Powered stuffI'm tempted to say that there are one too many effects in his magic (scary s**t and temperature dropping), at least at squire stage - maybe hold the temperature back for later, and keep it to ten degrees? Radius and length of time look good. Can he do anything else while this power is in effect, or must he be constantly channeling? I assume the latter, yes? ANYWAY, good job so far, just explain some stuff more and consider whether his major choice matches his future career plans.

I'm not as fancy about this as Silv, but I saw something so I thought I'd say something re: ur request for critwords
His Self-Sacrificing/(Generous?) virtue/flaw is clashing with his manipulative flaw for me. Rhys will always put the people he cares about before himself, This often means his own needs fall second, and for a friend he will happily sacrifice anything at all, and Rhys will smile and charm and convince you that what he wants is what you want... he will forever swear that it's for their own good, because he's convinced himself of that too don't all really work together. How can he always put others first if he's constantly manipulating them towards his own ends? You specifically mention he does this to his friends, so it's not that he manipulates people that he doesn't particularly know or like well.
I think the main problem is in the manipulative trait. The rest of your profile describes a coherent character (the supportive friend who will give up his chance at something cool to let a friend have it) but where it trips and stumbles is the way that flaw is worded. He can still be a skilled manipulator, but like I said above, he can't both prioritize his friends' wants or needs over his and suborn their wants/needs for his.
So, I propose this: What if Rhys attempts to manipulate his friends into doing things they normally wouldn't do for their benefit rather than his own? Like--a friend who really would be happier and more successful as a pianist than a doctor, he subtly manipulates the people around them to put that friend in a prime place, taking away from time he could be putting into his own concerns and giving it to a friend. Perhaps he sees people he doesn't know or like as tools that he can use to improve his own standing or the standing of his friends? This could still be a big flaw--friends might perceive his actions as invalidating their own skills and talents, or perhaps he messes with their friends in order to benefit them, causing a terrible cascade of consequences?
Anyway, lookin' good otherwise. smile
