Jerry frowned as he stepped into the mud. Fabulous. Like he didn't get enough mud while in Scotland. His boots squished as he glanced across the tournament rings, giving Marcus a smile and a wave. He didn't know what had been up with his weak blows and stamina that seemed to wear out faster than usual... he wondered if he was getting older, or maybe the key on his palm really was cursed. Either way, this friendly competition would be a great way to brush up his skills. "You ready??" He shouted across the mud, not crossing closer- Marcus would need to stay in close range to hit him, but Roar's blasts worked best at a distance. Before the Moon Hunter could answer, Jerry planted his feet in the mud, swinging Roar up onto his shoulder and took aim. The blast sent mud flying between them, and Jerry was pleased he had hit at all. HP: 50/50 (infected by palm-key) Damage: 6

Mud just made Marcus frown. Mostly for two reasons. One, was that he liked not getting cold and dirty as much as possible because siggy boots were disjusting. Two, he hated stains. Jerry's wave was met with a small two finger salute. They hade their past differences, but it had been awhile since the pair had really had any chance to test each other's abilities, and last time, Jerry from what Marcus could recall, hadn't been in the greatest of places emotionally. Not that Marcus was one to talk but bias- The lifting of the bazooka had Marcus drawing up his weapon to try and deflect some of the blow but to little effect. The mud flung up as well as the blast made contact, crashing into Dis's shields harder than the vampire liked. "Have to admit Jerry, you know how to start off things with a bang." Trying to run in the mud was like fighting zombies clinging to your boots- annoying and difficult. At best, Marcus could fling mud using Dis, (the vampire screeching about filth), while he tried to close the gap between the sun and moon. HP: 54 DMG: 1

"Bangs are my favorite things to orchestrate!" The Sun hunter laughed, but in the ring of his ears and moment of gloating, he failed to notice Marcus rushing toward him until the swords where on him. With a yelp, he managed to catch most of the blow with Roar before swinging the cannon around to buy him a moment.
Scrambling and slipping backward, he raised the bazooka once again, taking aim and firing.
While the blast rang true, unfortunately the force of it on the slippery moist turf sent Jerry flopping back with a wet, muddy splash and a yelp.

Mud all over the face, along with a chest full of cannon.
Good times, at deus ex machina.
"I'll stick to dancing and singing if you don't mind. Flashy moves I can only do in a group you know. Moon sync and all that." Grunting as he stumbled back spitting our dirt and water and grass, Marcus switched his blade hand, trying to see which side would help him in the slipper field.
A stab forward to try and get at Jerry's hand- if he was lucky the hunter would drop the weapon.
But when was Marcus lucky?

"Takes talent for both," Jerry chuckled, taking aim again before suddenly swords were flying. He gave a fresh yelp, slipping down into the mud again as the blades cut flesh and weapon, but he kept his grip firm. "I am so sick of mud- I b-bet my complexion'll be better after this- ahahaha..." He babbled, nervous energy dripping off him.

The sting of mud in wounds and the dull ache of a weapon's power hitting him that close would haunt Marcus later- but for now? His blood was pumping again, battle, even a spar bringing out that small thrill of a challenge without the fear of death so close at hand.
"What doesn't kill you makes you stronger- or it might get you a raise for not getting killed. Mud... worst it'll mean is that we'll look like bog monsters to trainees."
As he attempted to stab it was more a mud fling to Jerry.
Hunters were not the most graceful in mud.

Ami had to cover her mouth to keep herself from laughing. She secretly hoped that Jerry would win, just to see Marcus' mud-covered angry face.
On second thought, make that mud-covered angry body. His face shouldn't have been so damaged like that. From the sidelines she did nothing more than give him a little wave. Shouting would have been too close to mingling.
Jerry got a thumbs up too, for good measure. She tried pointing to her own face to give Jerry the signal not to damage Marcus' beautiful visage, but the message probably didn't relay well. Points for trying.

"If not getting killed by things makes us stronger-" Jerry spluttered at the sudden flick of mud and flash of blade, blinking at Ami for a moment as he registered they had people watching At least that moment's hesitation gave Marcus a chance to move in- putting him rather point blank for Roar's fresh bark.
"Then I've gotten plenty strong!" he laughed through the ringing in his ears, if a touch manically.
After sleeping in mud for who knew how long on his recent mission... nope nope, Jerry was done with mud.

Marcus wasn't sure which near death experience he'd walked away strongest from... but the episode with tampons had certainly helped shaped the fact that in Deus, the joke was always best when on someone else. That and if you couldn't take it, better never leave your dorm room because someone was bound to try one prank or run runic testing on you. Ami's wave was noticed, a glance and small nod given to acknowledge that yes, he noticed. She was outside. Being 'social'. It distracted him. And distraction hurt. Grunting and feeling the burn of the weapon through his clothes and into his gut the moon sliced down, aiming to cut right into the sun's FEAR. "Can't say I'm not impressed." HP: 39 DMG: 15

"How have things been with Cass-?" Jerry started, casually conversational, but Marcus's blades were already on him, and in him. He gave a strangled cry as they dug deep, pulling back frantically. Even though Fear Shields made that sort of move not leave a mark, they still stung like hell.
He scrambled, huffing and puffing to catch his breath as he scrambled and slid in the mud to try to put more distance between them before hauling his weapon back up to take aim- He had to keep his head in the game. He waited until Marcus was closing in once again before blasting with as much accuracy as he could muster.

One nice thing Marcus supposed about being a moon, was that you could take s**t and get hit and keep running. Granted, you might not be the best hitter, but you could take a blow before you had to bow out.
"Been good- looking to maybe get a place off island." He didn't mention the dog. Cass and him were still trying to figure out how to manage to dog. Grunting and pausing to clench at his shoulder from the sudden hit and rush of pain, the sword arm was switched yet again.
"How's your endeavors? Still swinging or finding a someone to settle with just yet?" It was odd- fighting and having a conversation while trying to stab a man in the leg or torso.
Interesting to say the least.

Perhaps casual conversation during a fight was not the best idea.

"The band? Ah, no-" Jerry started just as he got a face full of mud. Glowering as it dripped from his glasses, he wiped them as clean as he could with wet, muddy hands before taking the lax opportunity to haul his cannon back up with a blast.
"Not many musically abled Suns, unfortunately!"
