Greeting Finn with a sharp dip of his head, Tuck swiftly summoned Herryk. It felt like this little friendly part of the tournament was very crucial.
On one hand, he didn't want this guy fighting Heidi.
On the other hand, he didn't want to have to fight Heidi himself, because he knew he'd want to let Heidi win, and Tuck also knew that would really piss his girl off.
With a heavy sigh, Tuck took action, moving across the loose sand of the dunes so that he could strike out at Finn with the edge of the massive battle axe he wielded.
Sand. Tuck hated sand. He was a big guy, and he was heavy - and sand made it hard to get sure footing.
Tuck hated everything about sand.
And so, when his first attack was lame as ********, Tuck blamed it on the sand.

< I think it was a good idea for you to enter in this >
Trynt, seriously, did you see the size of that guy? I'll be lucky if I get out of this in one piece.
< You are so jacking negative all the time. Just remember to attack relentlessly and you'll do fine >
Not negative, realistic. The only thing I can hope for is that his size slows him down.
The conversation between Finn and Trynt went on like this the entire time he was making his trek towards the battle ground for his first round (and he was sure likely to be only round) in the tournament.
When he saw they were going to be fighting on sand, he groaned inwardly. The last time he had been on sand, he had gotten hauled into the ocean by a tentacle and eaten by a giant beast. Outwardly, his expression remained fairly neutral. A smile. A cold gaze. A nod of his head in return to Tuck.
And just like that it had begun. Finn summoned his weapon and stared at what he was sure would be his early demise.
< Ready? >
No.
< Well that's too bad because here he comes. Move! > Trynt's voice was a sharp hiss in Finn's head, and he did what he could, booted feet slipping in the sand as he attempted to dodge to the side, the edge of a wicked looking battleaxe clipping his arm as he did so.
He was quick to respond, however. With steady urging and snarling prompts from his weapon he spun, kicking up sand in his wake, turning in an attempt to strike against Tuck's back with the spiked blades of his lance.

There were many, many times that Tuck was a little in love with being bonded to Herryk. The draugr's presence in his mind was a weighty, possessive thing - but when it came to combat, there was a dark edge to Herryk deep in Tuck's mind. It felt a little dangerous, at times, but Tuck thrived on it.
Even if this was a friendly sort of spar, Herryk had a bloodlust that was difficult for the large Moon to ignore.
Finn's attack hit across Tuck's back - the contact had Tuck releasing a low hiss as he maneuvered away from the smaller trainee. He wasn't an agile man, never had been, and there was no grace in his movement.
Tuck brought Herryk around in a broad arch, the blue runes across the face of the axe glowing steadily. This strike was much more satisfying than the first, and Tuck couldn't help but smile.
Just a little, anyways.

With an early, solid strike against Tuck's Fear shield, there came a sharp hiss of satisfaction from Trynt, followed by a low rumbling growl, one that was obviously meant to urge Finn on, to strike again. It was at this time in most of their spars that the wyvern always seemed to stop speaking, responding only in low growls and snarls, and sometimes in singular words from a language that Finn didn't understand, one that seemed guttural and almost violent.
It was to be the same now, which actually left Finn feeling slightly odd today. Friendly tournament this might be, but it was nothing like the spars he'd had before, where victory only brought you a sense of knowing that you were improving, and not a step forward towards some other grand prize, unless of course it was your own personal one.
There was no speaking. No amiable banter. That was okay with Finn, who didn't mind using the silence to concentrate more fully on the battle at hand.
Tucks axe came at him again, in a sweeping motion that Finn couldn't hope to avoid, it's blade pummelling into him so that he let out a soft grunt, flinching back just as he had gotten himself turned around to be facing his opponent again. He was still quick to retaliate, actually moving further back from Tuck as he swung his lance at him a second time, trying to use it's length to his advantage.

Finn was banking a lot on his own speed and agility against this man, though their terrain wasn't exactly great for either. The way the sand shifted beneath his boots made for difficult purchase, and it was really actually a bit of a wonder that he'd managed to keep himself fairly on par until now.
Well, actually, up until that battleaxe caught him across the tops of his legs. Fear shield or not, Finn could still feel the force of the blow, enough to make his knee's buckle and almost send him falling into the sand.
Off balance, and with Trynt snarling through his head, he countered with a sharp stab of his lance.
It was....pathetic at best, really. <********.

******** hell.
Finn felt like things were beginning to fall apart on his end, because before he was even able to straighten up and regain more solid footing, he felt that massive blade come swinging down against his shoulder, a force that this time did have him falling to at least one knee, his hands clenching tight around the shaft of his lance lest he be tempted to drop it and grip the area that had been attacked.
It was only then, as he glanced up at his opponent, that he noticed Tuck's smile.
It wasn't a friendly one.
Well that was okay, because Finn's smiles were never friendly, and typically more on the predatory range. He wasn't about to smile back, however, his perpetually cold gaze coupled with a neutral facial expression as he mustered up his strength, stabbing the barbed tail end of his lance into the sand and using it to help spring back to his feet, before swiftly wrenching it back out of the ground and swinging it in a wide arc, this time also aimed for Tuck's legs.
We'll see how he likes it.
Trynt rumbled in approval.
