Hmm. Why had she signed up for the tournament, again? Her brows furrowed as she deeply reconsidered her registration upon realizing where exactly she would be fighting for the first round. Alaska pursed her lips together before taking a hesitant step into the mud. Her boot immediately sunk into the wet ground and she crinkled her nose. But of course. A mud pit. A mud pit. At least she wasn’t too fond of her current outfit. She could thank her stars for that.

“Alright, I guess I’ll get this fight started.” She acknowledged the other trainee briefly as she pulled off her ear clip and summoned her weapons. The raven-haired woman took a second to adjust her grip on the leiomanos before swinging at the man.

Harland was notoriously very slow to react to his surroundings. As he finally met the person named Alaska and it was, in fact, a female hunter, he was in the middle of going to tip his hat to her and introduce himself when he realized she wasn't really going to entertain any niceties. Harland didn't really like that much, but it was a little late to be upset about bad manners.

"Pleased to meet ye," Harland managed to squeeze out before he reached into his shirt to summon Coyote from the sheriff's badge navel piercing he desummoned into. "Lookin' forward to this, Coyote?" Harland asked, quietly, smiling at Alaska as he, too slowly to stop the force, raised his gauntlet-clad hand to brace himself against the hit.

He slid back through the mud and couldn't quite find purchase, but it didn't seem to bother him. His red cowboy boots were rapidly becoming covered in mud, and his chaps had been in better shape, but it could have been far worse in Harland's mind. Mud didn't bother him much. "Nice start," he said, flexing each of his gauntletted fingers and making sure everything was as it should be.

The simple blue lock on top of his gauntlet reminded him of something that he then promptly forgot.

Harland Leander Belle, would you kindly wield me well, and show this woman what we can do together?

"Well, I'll sure try," he promised Coyote. He braced himself as well as he could in the mud, his right hand clasped firmly above the gold razor-wire-edged top of the gauntlet, so that his leather glove was on skin and not weapon. It became rapidly apparent why he had to do that, as moments later he depressed the sheriff's badge plate on the palm and the cable, edged with razor wire, shot out towards Alaska, led by a grappling hook head.

It was a battle. A mock battle, but still a battle. She already knew his name from the lineup, so what was the point of introducing herself when they already knew each other names? There was no point if he somehow didn’t know it. If he couldn’t remember or hadn’t bother to do simple research, then it wasn’t like he deserved to know her name anyways. But the least she could notice was that he was an amiable guy. Unlike you. Haha! Watch your mouth, brat. The reaper’s giggles still rang in her ears as the other hunter took the time to chat with his own weapon.

“Thanks.” Alaska answered curtly, flexing and unflexing her tattooed fingers briefly. Yes. The more this guy spoke the more she indirectly learned about his personality. She cocked her head slightly as he appeared to be talking to himself. No, talking to his weapon. The sun hunter could feel a sinking sensation in her stomach as his gloves revealed a hidden trick.

“What the fu—“ She gritted her teeth as the hook wrapped around her legs and she forced herself to stand in place. One step forward could send her toppling into the mud. Bright green eyes narrowed and she could only stare at Harland with mild annoyance. Did she want to try breaking free or not?

Sure, Harland knew her name, but he thought it was rude to call someone by a name that they hadn't given out. Still, he didn't really have a lot of time to complain about that. Not that he'd complain, really, he'd just try to remedy the situation. All things said and done, he really liked avoiding conflict; this fight, to him, was for fun. "It's a bit of a surprise, I'll grant ye that," he said, smiling humbly, his cheeks reddening. Still, he couldn't exactly back down now-- he grabbed hold of the cable with his gauntletted hand, and whipped the cable back towards himself.

"It's the kinda thing'll make ye regret running, sweetheart," he said, his tone advising against that, nodding soberly. If she untangled herself, he'd whip it back as a lash. If she didn't she'd be dragged towards him by the force of the cable, through the mud, close enough that he could use the full force of the metal gauntlet itself.

The razor wire really made anything to do with the cable that much more unpleasant; free herself or not, she'd surely end up suffering for having been snared.

A humble smile. Red cheeks. Ridiculous. She didn’t know if she wanted to punch him or giggle. Maybe both. Her brows furrowed deeply just before he tugged, causing her to jerk forward and bracing herself by digging her hands into the cold, slimy mud, but at least her clothes were still relatively clean. She had a feeling that that would be changing all too soon. She just may as well as give into the truth rather than stubbornly deny it.

Geez. Better make your mind up quick, Alaska. You think I don’t know that already? Teeth gritted together, Alaska took a deep breath before her hands reached for the razor wire and loosened it until she could step out of his weapon’s snare. Lips curled into a frown while she stared at the death hunter through narrowed eyes. “Lovely partner you have there.” Curt. Cold. Hardly amused as she swung her weapons.

Harland watched Alaska free herself, which was actually a good idea, though he was surprised she thought of it in time and was able to pull it off. He still retrieved Coyote's hook, looping the head around and latching it onto the cable so that it made a lasso of sorts.

In the meantime, he was basically not paying attention at all, and took a weapon to the shoulder, bringing up his gauntletted hand to keep the blow from extending further. He winced automatically, falling back into the mud.

"He's my deputee," Harland said, clearly proud of Coyote.

Now is not the time for sentiment, and I told you that we would see about that deputee thing. Get off your a**, Harland Leander Belle. Coyote replied, irritated again, though his voice was softened by something that might even be considered budding affection.

Harland was very stubbornly refusing to take offense to her mannerism, whatever she said, and her lack of smiles. Instead, he just beamed up at her from the mud. "You're pretty consistent 'n all, wish I could say the same!" Harland figured the fight would be close, if they kept this up. Fighting in mud really wasn't a good scene; he immediately regretted having not paid attention, and held onto the lasso as he rose to his feet.

"Some kinda camouflage, don't ye think?" He said, with a grin, tugging on his shirt.

Can't you make friends LATER? We are quite in the middle of something, in case you have not noticed. Coyote snapped at him, affection gone.

I'll get to it, Harland replied, with a shrug, and a smile.

Touching. Absolutely touching. “What a wonderful sense of camaraderie you have going there,” she said in a flat tone. Aaaaw why can’t we be like that? Because you’re a stupid brat. Geez, don’t be like that~

“Consistent, huh?” The sun hunter crinkled her nose as Harland scrambled around in the mud. In a few moments she would probably meet the same fate. Eyes narrowed at his attempt of a joke. During a fight like this? Granted, it was a mock battle and nothing in particular was actually at stake, but still. “Don’t you think that’s a bit il-timed?” Alaska raised an eyebrow at him before leaning over to kick him back down in the mud.

"Ill-timed?" he asked, confused very obviously, "I've got all the time in the world,"
he replied, with one of his slow, open smiles.

He did take the hit, when she moved in retaliation, but he definitely wasn't going to fall back into the mud. "If it's all the same to ye, mo chailín, I'll stay upright," he said, attempting to catch the leg she'd kicked with with his gauntletted hand. His ultimate goal was to loop his lasso around her ankle, tighten it into a snare, and pull.

Pull he did, and Alaska fell into the mud with a disgusting plop. On the bright side, her face was still relatively clean save for a few specks of brown splotched across her neck and parts of her cheek. The bright green shone against the mud as she glared at Harland. “Duly noted,” she grumbled before leaning over with one of her leiomanos and bashing him right in the leg. Considering the awkward amount of distance between them, she wasn’t too sure how effective the attack was.

Harland would have offered Alaska a handkerchief for the mud on her face, but he suspected the one tucked into his jacket would become equally filthy by the end of the fight. Even then, if Coyote was mad at him for trying to converse he'd surely be irritated as hell if he stopped fighting to dig out a handkerchief-- wait, it would just get shredded by his weapon anyone. And Coyote would say he deserved it.

"We both have green eyes!" Harland said suddenly, excited by this revelation for some reason. Hers were a much nicer, livlier shade than his in all fairness, but it was still fun for him to discover such details. Thank you, mud.

It was effective enough; Harland's leg buckled, and he instinctively pressed the sheriff's plate on his palm-- the hookshot let go as he contorted it strangely, letting his lasso loose in the mud. He'd have to remember that.

Coyote was extremely unhappy about being covered in mud, far more so than Harland was unhappy. "Ye think fast, a good quality," he said, praising her again.

He straightened up and started to back away as fast as he could.

“?!” Her eyes widened while her brows furrowed deeply. Of all the things to notice, he decided to note her bright green eyes during a fight?! “Ridiculous.” For all it was worth, the statement was startling enough to catch her off guard and allow him to lasso her with the hookshot. Alaska clicked her tongue loudly before pulling the chains off and swung her weapon, bashing him in the torso before he got away from her and out of range. She pressed her lips together at the compliment, but said nothing.

[Spectator]

Of all the fights, she made sure to come watch her twin in action. her chin cupped in her hand.

She didn't need to say much though, in case she distracted her twin from her fight.

"Go Alaska Go." Nevada said quietly.

He wasn't backing away fast enough. She's attacking she's attacking she's attacking HARLAND WOULD YOU KINDLY WATCH YOURSELF

"It'll be fine, Coyote," Harland reassured him, as he was already taking the hit. It was a good thing Harland didn't fight with pistols, because he'd certainly be last to draw.

He clumsily tried to swipe at her with his gauntletted fist.
