Steampunk was harder to design than Delilah had first expected. She had to do quite a bit of research on just the basic design and then completely scrap the first two just because she had no way to make wings that looked like cogs. The girl might have been skilled with needle and thread but other material and cardboard? And how did people get them to really work?
All of those were questions that she would have loved to have answered but time was not Delilah's friend. With Destiny Con quickly approaching, she knew there was no time to start a forth outfit.
So she had settled to just go simple and stylize what she knew how to craft. That meant she needed the right pieces to make the shorts and all the belts she was wrapping around herself. Not to mention the items to customize her hat when it came in next week.
Nearly twenty minutes had passed since Delilah had walked into the Arts and Crafts store and all of it had been spent comparing brass to bronze with the brown fabric she had picked out for the jacket. "Now would it be better to go with the one that looks like a machine? But the wings have such a good shine to them? Oh but..." Finally she sighed and pulled back from the shinys.
"This should not be so hard."

Sirsce gravitated toward the craft store on a near-daily basis - were it not for her budgetary constraints and willpower, she would be drowning in debt right now. Or maybe not, as she considered that her fabulous ideas may yet take off, and she would have garnered fame and serious fortune. But who was she kidding? As a high-schooler who failed to sew decently, what sort of riches would she really claim?
The answer was none.
But today, she lingered by the craft store with a purpose. Steadily saved cash in hand, she intended to head inside and stay within a strict list of fabrics and accessories for her relatively simple costume. Since her mother recently bought her a dress form, Sirsce wanted to try her hand at designing the jacket herself, absent any patterns. It seemed a tall order, and she would need a plethora of fabric to make up for failed attempts, but she promised herself she would try. She had to - the Con was coming up soon!
Finally she pushed through the doors and was immediately assailed by the mixed scents of candles and incense, fabrics galore, and mildly potent false plant decorations. She breathed a deep sigh, then took off toward the fabrics section of the store, where she knew she'd spend hours combing through bolts and likely dizzying herself with the amount of possibilities.
However, what she didn't expect was to find a lovely dark-haired individual talking to herself while sitting on the floor. Next to her was a swatch of brown fabric, along with several metallic bolts that glimmered and shined beneath fluorescent lighting. Being a fan of earthy tones herself, Leda approached the girl with a timid offer of help. "Um... Sorry, I overheard you talking and, are you designing something? Like, can I help you do it?" It sounded awkward and clumsy, but Sirsce often found it difficult to suppress her energetic love for fashion in situations like these - she had little time to consider her words before they simply exited her face.Sirene Naiads sorry this took so long! your start was just fine!

Delilah was just reaching out to pick up a bronze button that looked like a bird feather when she jumped. The fabric in her hand went flying upward and landed on her head. The objects around her scattered slightly but were still in reach. Turning over her shoulder, Delilah easily spotted the cause of her racing heart.
A woman walked towards her with hair that made the teenager blink. She liked the pink on black but what was with the blonde? Shaking off the thought, Delilah reached up to remove the fabric from her head before she shook it. 'No thanks. I got it."
Her free hand came up in a dismissal of a wave while her other hand started to pull items back towards the center of her body for comparison. Delilah would not say another word for a good two minutes before she groaned in frustration. "Do you know anything about this notion of Steampunk?" She was annoyed as she looked back in the direction of the other female, fully flustered on the fact she couldn't pick something to go with he shorts and jacket.

Sirsce couldn't help but laugh at the scene - the dark-haired girl still seated with a swath of fabric atop her head. The sight looked comical, but she didn't seek to laugh at the girl. Afterward she flashed her a warm smile and sat near the low-hanging bolts, legs loosely folded beneath her. She busied herself with folding up some of the fabrics and unearthing a few stray beads and eyelets before she heard the girl speak again - and another welcome image came to mind. With it arrived an unexpected thought:
Finally being a senshi is a good thing.
She paused in her ministrations as she mulled over her response. If she were a little younger, she would've asserted that she's the senshi of steampunk and she totally knows all about steampunk just look at her outfit please she can show you like right now, but... She knew that was reckless, and she could very well be conversing with a Negaverse officer that would turn her in at a moment's notice. She didn't quite think of the stranger in such cold tones, rather she found most everyone she met to be amiable to some degree.
"Um, yeah actually. I've had a lot of experience with steampunk stuff." It felt strange and cheeky not to spell out the truth for the girl, but they'd only just met and she couldn't afford to jeopardize her senshi side in such spur-of-the-moment divulges.
Finally she turned her attention to the swaths of fabric her new acquaintance picked out as well as the profusion of interesting accessories. She furrowed her brow for a moment as she tried to piece them together into a cohesive image, and finally she settled on a tasteful yet elegant design that revealed itself in time. "It's basically like... combining victorian era clothing with industrial stuff, you know, the goggles and gears and machinery things. Elegance meets grit, I think? Have you considered like a cute victorian dress and then modifying it with steampunk accessories?"Sirene Naiads i lost this one but i found it o_o

Delilah's frustration softened slightly around her eyes but her lips remained thinned. She was getting a headache with it all but the laughter from the other girl both caused her to be conscious of her expression as well as her appearance. Fabric on her head. Really Delilah...
But the fact this girl even knew what steampunk was surprised Delilah. Maybe it was more common than she thought?
Listening to her, she nodded and sighed. "I had until I saw how many layers the dress would require. Moving in tight spaces with something like that is not practical in this day and age. Not to mention, how do you make cogs look attractive?" She shook her head. "I have seen them look great as jewelry but the notion of them being woven into the fabric just seems...off in a way. A large contrast to the softness of the fabric.
And then she felt her shoulders drop. "Why did it have to be Victorian."
Strickenized Sorry for the delay. Life took one crazy turn after another.

"Oh no no, I wasn't talking about weaving them into the fabric!" Sirsce gesticulated her shock at the idea by waving her hands furiously. She wasn't entirely sure how one might even accomplish that... Aside from adding a bunch of eyelets and a plastic screen behind those to simulate goggle lenses or something. It sounded like far more work than it was worth. "Just... goggles on your head and bracelets and stuff. Making an actual steampunk costume by adding metal would take a whole ton of time and I'm not sure how time you've got to make this."
Speaking of which, why was this girl making a steampunk outfit? With a slump of her shoulders, Sirsce regarded the girl sheepishly and asked the question she should've considered agest before offering suggestions. "Um, what're you making this for anyway? A contest or a con?" Either one sounded equally plausible.
Sirsce withdrew the now-crumpled paper from her pocket, delineating a variety of fabrics for her future projects. Most of them offered no hope for steampunk designs, but a few of the rustic browns provided enough midtone to contrast the steampunk elements... Though she supposed that the essential style served that very purpose. But that was assuming the girl went with Victorian and not something more modern or exotic. "I have a couple browns written down you might like? I think, uh, you could do a more simple dress or something easier to move in... Anyway, the browns are over there if you want to try those too." Sirsce pointed toward one of the farther aislesm with a rounder of various clearance fabrics placed in front of it.

This woman really had fun waving her hands around. It made Delilah wonder if she was some sort of actress or just enjoyed threatening the items around her. Either way, there was a quick mental note to stay out of arms reach.
"Oh. A con. Destiny Con." Delilah answered as she worked to pick up the rest of the fallen items before working to stand up. "So not quite the amount of time I would like for something like this. It's why I was wondering which would go best. Looking where the woman was pointing, Delilah nodded. "I was thinking of this chocolate brown but..." She dropped her eyes. "Isn't that over done?"
