The simple fact that officers, wraiths, youma and the mirror senshi prowled around the Destiny University Campus made the liklihood of other learning institutions having infestations probable. Probable and inexcusable- though he wondered how much the Geneva Convention and other international warfare codices applied to interstellar, magical combat. It wasn't like they were using anti-aircraft guns on people, after all- just whatever fantasy attack came to the mind of the cosmos like flesh eating whipped cream melting their faces off or something.

It was something he would need to consider carefully. What law was in relation to their collective little 'war'.

For now, he settled on checking in at a school each night this week. For tonight? Meadowview. And as Thraen got closer, his lips curled from neutral into a snarl- Someone is here. Someone that feels wrong, holes in the Earth and in the Calm and Purity of this area.

He picked up from a leaping jog to a full sprint, closing distance between his own signature and the one of Chaos.

It wasn't like Sailor Vespa was going out of his way looking for trouble, especially not tonight. It was his senior year of high school and as a graduating student, there was a LOT on his mind, first and foremost being the group project that he was, once again, tricked into doing the bulk (i.e. all) of the work for. Somehow he managed to bite his tongue and accepted the responsibility- he'd rather do all the work and be guaranteed a grade than to put his faith in a bunch of students that cared for nothing but going to football games and partying.

He was planning on making his daily patrol fast and quick, deciding to check around the familiar stomping grounds of Meadowview for any senshi or knights roaming about before booking it home and getting right into the project that would keep him up all night. He hoped his patrol would be fast and quick, and yet, the Order signature that popped up on his radar told him to not even bother to get his hopes up.

'A White Moon Senshi? On MY turf?! The nerve!' Vespa thought to himself with a sneer, and unbeknownst to him, he mimicked his White Moon counterpart, as he immediately took off into a run to find the intruder. Any thought of his group project was gone from his mind, and without caring how strong the energy signature was, he called out the moment he drew close to the cafeteria, knowing that whoever it was would be arriving soon. "You need to get out of here, whoever you are! This area doesn't welcome your kind… in fact, this whole CITY doesn't welcome your kind!"

Thraen felt the signature start moving. It was closing too- they must have noticed him and decided equally that some sort of confrontation was up for grabs, though which was going to be in the air until they figured each other out.

Which took all of a hot second as the voice rang out clear in the dim light. It was a familiar voice. He couldn't place it straight off, but as soon as he pulled up, seeing the other senshi maybe twenty yards away, the image of the youth and the voice aligned. It was that Senshi he'd met, the corrupt one. Well, the only corrupted one he'd ever met, actually.

The one with the magical bees.

Thraen's sneer fell neutral, seeing the dark stars and remembering at least the notions that had struck him then if not Vespa's name- What lies brought you to this farce, this trade for unwholesomeness? A decision to walk in guise of malice instead of hope.

"We find each other again afterall. You still bear the dark marks of the Negaverse leash." There were no victims readily apparent, but they might have been abandoned before the other youth had come to meet him here. It might mean, at the least, they were still alive and would recover to groggily stumble off to safety. "What are you doing here? Schools are places for learning, exploration and growth. Not theft, destruction and stagnation."

"Have you hurt someone?"

Initially, Vespa didn't care who it was that was drawing close to as his tactic was going to be the same, regardless of who it was, what strength they held. To him, a White Moon senshi was an enemy and an enemy had no right to be here, and he was determined to not hold back. Not so long as other students and faculty remained on school grounds...

The moment he spotted the intruder, though, he gave an annoyed spat, but not once did he drop his guard, nor his will to fight. "You?"

He remembered their previous encounter with a distinct disgust in mind, and while a normal person would have been grateful that their enemy merely tied them up and left them alive when rendered unconscious, Vespa couldn't help but feel insulted by the action, even now, but he did not charge at him. Not yet, anyway, but the option was definitely readily available.

"Yeah, and what of it? You're going to mock my loyalty when you yourself have none?" Vespa snarled, tightening his fists into balls and letting Thraen know that he didn't take kindly to his choice of words. "And I could be asking the same about you! What are YOU doing here? You had your territory back then, and I have mine now, so... get lost!"

What really set Vespa off was that last accusation, and he made a point to storm closer towards Thraen, despite knowing what he was capable of and how much worse it might have been thanks to his recent promotion. Such matters didn't concern Vespa, as he had a duty to fulfill. He'd take on the enemy's worse if it meant keeping his fellow students safe.

"I am not mocking you." It was said with even, quiet tone as the other closed some of the distance between them. Does what works with real stinging insects work for him? If I stay slow and steady as a tree, an extended rose branch, the garden path, would he follow it a while?

There is only trying it. Once, at least, I should try. I will spare him, once.

"You are not so different from me. "

"Young. Eager and brave. Proud and fair, power in your hands and darkened light in your heart of hearts. This isn't about territory, faced with you of all the world." Thraen slowly lifted his palm and held out his hand, as though to catch a drifting milkweed, "Talk with me a while."

"Not mocking me? I don't believe you. That's what the last senshi claimed and I didn't believe him either," Vespa said, holding his ground and refusing to give the other senshi an inch. But he also did not lash out, and the way he crossed his arms over his chest was a clear sign that, while he stubbornly stayed glue to his post, the soldier wasn't going to attack. He'd keep his stinger prepared but he'd refrain from unleashing his fury for the moment.

Mostly because he was both tired of fighting right now, and because he could not forget Thraen's magic and how it rendered him completely useless in the last fight. As eager as he was to protect his school and classmates, he wasn't too eager to be rendered unconscious on his own territory. So, for now, he'd wait and see what this intruder wanted.

"I'm plenty different from you," Vespa said, not once thinking about it or letting Thraen's words sink in. He couldn't allow for that. Sure, his words and diction were sweet like honey, but Vespa suspected it to be a trap. A trap he was going to avoid, somehow, without giving away any ground. "For starters, you're a senshi of the White Moon, and whether you follow, or followed, the Moon Queen or not, makes you my enemy. Yeah, we're both senshi, but that's it."

And he looked to that hand that was extended and scoffed, turning his head away but still not striking at him. "The last senshi I talked to didn't went well, so... don't expect the same thing here. You're my enemy. What's there to talk about?"

His initial impulse was to slap the other guy as hard as he could in hopes that the contact would induce a concussion and maybe, just maybe, the skull-brain impact would jump start function that weren’t related to just running at the mouth. There was no debate if the other person wasn’t actually listening. There was no point to raw arguments, nothing ever achieved but pain. “You say I am your enemy- why?”

Thraen kept still, leaving his hand out in extension towards Vespa, and sought the other's gaze with his own, “I can tell you why I fight you and the Negaverse. First, stealing energy and second murder. Theft, stealing, is the taking of another person's property without that person's consent with the intent to deprive the rightful owner of it- in this case energy. The negaverse sends out its agents every day to remove people of their energy without consent. That is stealing. “

“And taking someone’s starseed kills them. That is Murder.”
“So what are you fighting me for? What makes me evil, and an enemy that should be brought to justices at best, or at worst destroyed?”

“Why are you fighting me? We are both young men. We both have hope and dreams, jobs we want and love to pursue. We both have names outside of these uniforms, ages, and homes here in Destiny City.. We were both told we have these gifts, and to use them in a war we hardly understood. We both come out here, night after night. We both bleed. We are similar in every way, but one- my starseed remains white and yours is laced with dark, ‘corrupted’. “

"Ugh, you're starting to sound like him," Vespa said with a snarl, shaking his head but not meaning it in a condescending manner. Like Avior, this senshi questioned why they were enemy, and Vespa was starting to grow tired of having to answer this question, not to mention the plethora of feelings and growing doubt that came with it. "I'll tell you what I told the last White Moon senshi that asked me that. Because we are. I'm loyal to the Negaverse and Queen Metallia, and you're loyal to your White Moon Court and the Moon Queen... or not. I don't really care. It's that simple."

Vespa looked at the hand he extended and while he did not slap it away like he wanted to, he made sure to keep his distance from it. He was already letting him talk when every order he heard told him to attack! What more did this one want from him. Not that he wanted to hear his words, nor the truth they brought with them. Vespa broke eye contact and glanced away when he went on about theft and murder, and he tried so hard not to strike out at him, though why he didn't eluded him. "Look, I don't like to take people's energy, but I have my orders. I'm not good at it, and I definitely don't enjoy it... so... I don't need you or anyone else reminding me of that!"

Then came the starseeds and murder, and this made Vespa seethe, to combat the initial horror he felt. He had never taken a starseed, and with any luck, whether it be good or bad, he never would. But that didn't mean he wasn't guilty of harming others, nor the truth that there were members of the Negaverse that had murdered in Queen Metallia's name. He should have spoken up for them, but he couldn't, and that made him angry. But his anger wasn't towards Thraen...

"Look, you're barking up the wrong tree. I'm nothing more than a grunt in the grand scheme of things, and when my Queen or any of my superior officers tell me to do something, I do it. Without question. I may not do it well, and I might fail at it, but I'll do it!" Vespa snapped, wanting so dearly to call out his wasps though he knew it to be useless. Why bother? They'd just turn on him too. "I don't like it, but that's just how it is. The difference between you and me is that I know this and accept it, while you keep yourself blinded from it. Maybe... when you realize this, your starseed will be like my own too."

Who is Queen Metallia? Save that for later, it isn't the point right now. He hasn't raised hand against me. We're trying. We're both trying against our better judgement. Come, words, I beg. Words that he will hear, and be the seeds planted in his heart that will stave back the dark. If not this night, then some other.

"Nega, from negat, the past participle stem of negare meaning 'to deny, say no'. Verse, presumably from Universe. So ...denial of the universe. No universe. You're trying to end everything that is and you're okay with that because someone else told you to do it? You're happy slaughtering because someone else told you to do it?" Thraen's eyes practically glowed in the dim.

"Your answer to any question is 'it's not my fault, someone told me to do it'? Do you honestly believe that you can absolve yourself of your free will somehow and that makes you not culpable for your actions? You still choose to follow their orders, to do their bidding. You choose to stand by those whose very name says they wish to deny life and choice to every person, plant animal and thing in existence. And that is fine with you?"

"And you'll do no more about it that say someone told you to do it."

"And when everyone else is destroyed or dead, where will that leave you and the Negaverse, Vespa? What reward does 'Nega' promise you that is so dear?"

"Niemöller's old poem, Vespa -
'First they came for the communists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a communist.
Then they came for the socialists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a socialist.
Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade unionist.
Then they came for me,
and there was no one left to speak for me.'"

"Leave them Vespa. Walk beside me, who values you, your life, your wants and your choices- work to build something, with me. Wasps are as good of pollinators as other visitors to Gardens, and bring as many flowers and fruits to harvest time if they are given a chance to work with honest purpose. "

Vespa regretted ever allowing the senshi to talk to him, because now it was impossible not to get himself thinking about what he had to say. He should have ignored it. He should have just struck out before the words could enter through the ear and sink in, but Vespa had given him the benefit of the doubt and thought he could simply shut him out. But that was a big mistake, one that he wasn't sure what the immediate solution would be. He could strike him, but wouldn't that confirm what he accused him of?

"I'm not okay with it! Do I look like I'm okay with it?" Vespa grew defensive, feeling the hair on the back of his neck rising and bristle with anger. He looked ready to strike and he didn't care at this point, as he tried to defend himself from something that he wasn't quite prepared for. "I haven't slaughtered anyone, and I fail miserably at collecting energy. Which I'm likely going to pay for that later... but I'm not enjoying it. I'm doing is because I'm told to, and it doesn't matter if I like it or not. When you're loyal to a cause, when you're a soldier, you're personal feelings or opinions don't matter. I don't like it, but that's just how it is..."

And no, Vespa did NOT enjoy it. At all. He hated it. The Carnival, the Convention... there wasn't a single part of those events he enjoyed, but he had no choice but to follow orders. To have someone accuse him of enjoying it... really burned him up. "Do you know what happens when you don't follow orders? Do you have any idea what will happen to me if they found out that I was talking to you? About this?"

He actively backed away from that hand, shaking his head as he did so, and fear could be heard in his shaky voice. "They'd not only destroy me, but my family too. They're bound to know who I am, who they are, and if I actively disobey or turn against them, then they'll suffer. Where does that fit in with you? Huh? It's not fine with me, but that doesn't matter."

But, as angry and livid as the Senshi of Wasps was with him and his situation, he couldn't deny the truth he spoke, and his offer was tempting. For a brief moment, Vespa considered taking that hand and fleeing from the Negaverse, but the temptation nor the hope that came with it didn't last long. He looked at the hand again and shook his head, before turning away. "I can't. Even if I wanted to. If I abandon them and join your cause, then what will that make me look like but a traitor? Just because you'd accept me don't mean others will..."

No one had offered this to him before, and Vespa wasn't sure to how to feel or respond... except that he knew he couldn't walk away from he Negaverse and his duties, as damning as they may be.

An explanation of cause is not a justification by reason, " Thraen shifted on his feet, moving weight from one heel to the other. He let his hand drop slowly to his side, "Nor does truth damage a just cause. "

"If you are fighting for an organization that threatens your very family if you resist, is that is the reason you stay, isn't that clue enough that they are not just using ill methods to a fair end, but actually are evil? Seek help, Vespa. There is help out here, powerful senshi and guardians and who knows what else that must have the power to offer you and yours protection. That can offer you peace, without threat to your friends and family that which is omnipresent in a place torn by shadow war. "

"If not from me, then someone. Someone you want to be accepted by, and you believe you can trust- before your family suffers. Before they no longer recognize you for all the enveloping dark. Before you're the one who chooses, or is ordered to cut that last tie to light and pure life."

It will have to be enough. Beating this further risks salting the earth.
"Think it over. "

"And don't steal energy from students? They need all they can get. You know how hard classes and tests are."

At this point, Vespa just wanted the senshi gone. It was already bad enough that he showed his enemy quarter by choosing not to fight him, but he had allowed him to talk. And worst than that, allowed him to get in his head. If there were any superior officers around, the Senshi of Wasps would certainly be getting himself into a heap of trouble, and then, who would protect him? Thraen? He sneered, crossing his arms over his chest to stop himself from striking out and actively turning away from Thraen in a pathetic attempt to escape his judgmental words, and the truth they carried. "Seek help? From you? You don't have a queen. You don't even know each other... I doubt you, or any of you, would be willing to help me when you can't even help yourselves."

It was harsh of him to say that and he knew he was likely destroying any hope of making allies on the other side, but... that just wasn't something he should have been considering in the first place. They're his enemy, and it didn't matter why. Unless his superior officers said otherwise, he shouldn't have even been having this conversation at all!

"But... I'll think it over. Even though I know I shouldn't. If they find out about this, they're going to be mad. Very mad... but I'll think about it."

His last request made the Senshi of Wasps spat, but otherwise he did not argue, simply because he agreed. "Don't worry. The students here are safe. Even if I wanted to get their energy, I'd likely fail at it. Like I do everything else. Now get going... I may not be able to hurt you, but I can't guarantee an officer would do the same."

Even in his own territory, he was useless. Maybe he did deserve the Negaverse to simply cut him loose, but that was a thought, or hope, for another day. Vespa turned and fled, making it clear that he had no intention of stirring anymore trouble today by running off of the school grounds before transforming back to boring and even more pathetic, if that was even possible, Scott Erlea. Another loss this evening, but so what else was new?

May it be a start, or enough. But he wasn't certain, which made him pull a wry face as he turned himself to go after Vespa's form was lost to the dim.

Will I be able to extend a branch again?

Or will I be willing?

Will you, won't you, will you, won't you...
