A hand painted banner hung in the common outside the main Deus buildings. 'ISLAND KOMBAT - A Deus Battle Tournament' in bright blue letters with large gold suns drawn into the corners. It was clearly made from an old dropcloth that someone had painstakingly attempted to clean to make as white as possible. A few tables were set up with refreshments, all they could spare, bottled water and some of Allan's stock of strange japanese drinks. There were a few bagged treats, like cookies and chips, but without access to portals all that they'd scrapped together had been through donation.
Bix hustled around a table towards the front with only a paper megaphone to make announcements. He was currently occupied with making final adjustments to one of the bracket boards. They were definitely just dry-erase boards taken out of some of the unused labs. Thankfully with no power, there was no shortage of rooms to loot for their purposes. Tables and chairs were set up in scattered groupings across the lawn for spectators and those who were waiting to compete.
Handmade signs with arrows pointed off in random directions: TOWNS ARENA. BEACH DUNE ARENA. TRAINING GROUNDS ARENAS.
The tournament had yet to start, but the area was open for all to check out the matches, prepare, and maybe even take bets. Some hunters had already taken a table where they were bargaining MRE's and other desirable supplies as they made their wagers on the posted matches.

Each dry-erase board covered a division, their names written in meticulously. Some hunters would find they had a bye the first round due to the number of competitors and Bix was happy to answer questions for any who had them. He assures that all pairings were completely randomized!!
He seemed a bit manic, nervous about how things would go, and bit furiously at the end of a dry-erase marker as he stared at the groupings as if he'd need to change them any second.
LEVEL SELECT [[Please note that 'levels' are merely for RP and battle flavor for your fights and do not in any way affect stats]]
Beach Level: Originally located on the beach the recent Titan attacks have pushed these arenas back into the dunes behind the walls. Fighters will have to contend, not only with each other, but with shifting sands and the sight and sounds of Titan fighters zooming over their heads.
Abandoned Town Level: With the fog gone, much more of the abandoned town is available to explore! Only a short walk from the 'nice neighborhoods' (don't worry hunters, your houses are safe) several battle arenas are set within the dilapidated buildings and deserted streets of the town. Beware of rubble, miscellaneous rusted bits, and the standard abandoned mattress. What abandoned street would be complete without a few stray shopping carts?
Training Field Level: Within view of the common area as well as the Deus buildings, all hunters are familiar with the Training Fields. Grass, sun and training dummies are about the only things to contend with here... well... and the scrutinizing eyes of the entire campus. Have fun!
Mud Pit Level: This level was possibly snuck in at the last minute and several people are whispering that it's Mark's fault. A portion of the training fields seems to have been turned into a mud pit. Mud wrestling jokes are flying but it seems the tournament staff is just going with the flow. Ladies did you bring those bikinis?

Feel free to assume your hunter has returned and gotten a night's sleep. - Everyone is welcome to talk to Bix even though he's running things! Please quote-tag me so I can keep track!!
Battle Rules:
- All battles will take 48 OOC hours. This will be translated to a TIMED match IC terms. - The competitor with the HIGHEST HP at the end of the 48 hours wins. - NO DEATH OR PHYSICAL HARM. All hunters are equipped with experimental damage dampeners! If you roll for negative HP, it's capped at 0. If your HP reaches zero you may RP collapsing/fainting if you wish. NO ARTIFACTS. This is a good old fashioned grinding fight. - 2d20 will be rolled in the first post of each battle by me to determine who attacks first. - Single elimination! If you lose, you're out! Exception: Third place match will take place! - Ties (same HP on battle end) will be settled with a 'sudden death' attack. Each fighter will roll a final attack to determine the winner. - ORP will be located in the MAIN DEUS GUILD. Battles will be in the promotion/mission forum, in order to not flood the main area.

Someone in a white coat came over and interrupted Bix's bracket-staring. They whispered to him and his pale face got pink. Suddenly he was flailing and huffing and eventually he editted the brackets for 2 last minute entries.

Idly strolling up to the bracket board, Tuck meticulously opened a package of dried fruit he'd been lucky enough to score from an MRE. Cramming a fistful of the sour, grainy fruit into his mouth, Tuck stood before the board and slowly chewed. Everything looked pretty good, and he was excited to see things get underway.
Until he saw Heidi's name.
That frown turned upside down with a quickness. Sure, she was a grown a** woman who could take care of herself, but she was his grown a** woman. He wasn't even sure he knew who Finn was.
Letting out a noise that sounded suspiciously like a whine, Tuck shuffled his feet and crammed more fruit into his mouth.
Heidi wasn't too far behind Tuck when she heard the whine, coming up to peek around his arm and press her cheek against his shoulder. What was he upset about? "Why are you whiiiiniiiiing?" Heidi teased, looking over the board. Oh! It was for the tournament! Yay! She reached around to steal one of the dried fruits Tuck was eating. Hmm..where was--oh! There she was!
"..Oh. Is that why?" She reached out to point at her name and then dragged her finger to Tuck and Finn's names. "I know him! He's kinda quiet, but seems friendly enough? Maybe we'll get to fight each other!" Unlike Tuck it seemed Heidi was excited about this.

As soon as she had word that the bracket board was posted, Fini had made her way to take a peek at it. So she knew whether or not to go have a chat with Bix or not. Of course, she also wanted to come and give her friend a high five for organizing something exciting. Because really, Deus needed 'exciting' right now.
There were a couple other people there looking as well, and she patiently waited for enough space to take a quick look. A smile tugged at her lips seeing some of the other names. Maybe she'd get the chance to fight a couple certain 'asshats'.
"Hey, Bix!" Fini gave him a playful shove. "Long time no chat. And then you suddenly throw this together?" She gave him a mock wounded look. "So this is why you haven't called or said hi?"

The bracket boards were up, and Finn decided he might as well take a look and see who his opponent was going to be. He still wasn't really sure what had possessed him to enter in a tournament, knowing full well he wasn't exactly experienced in combat and would likely get his butt, and his dignity, handed to him on a silver platter, and only if his opponent was that kind. Still, knowing that he needed the practice made for a good enough reason to take a chance and sign up. Who knew, maybe he had a chance of actually doing okay?
Sauntering up to the boards, he located the one for trainees and had a look down the names, reading all of them as well as his own to see who else he might know in the little competition. It didn't take him long to see that Abbi and Jack and Fini had entered, as well as other names that he recognized. Of course, Fini and Jack got a bye to the second round, and Finn narrowed his eyes at that. He understood the necessity, given the odd number of participants, but that didn't mean he'd consider it as being fair.
Oh well, he wasn't about to dwell on it, instead he noted that the name paired up with his own was not one that he knew, though the opponent if he won was a more recognizable. Heidi. He had met her before, hadn't he? Right, when they had been doing that farming stuff.
And a glance around showed him that she was actually there, with a larger man, discussing something. He wondered if he should go over and say hi, debating whether or not she looked too busy....
Oh, hello. Fini was here as well. It was also tempting to go and greet her, but as she was some distance away and talking to another man that Finn didn't know, he decided instead to move towards Heidi and her companion, not realizing that she had just been talking about him.
"Hey." He offered her a smile, one that did nothing to warm the coldness of his eyes, as per usual. An almost calculating look, as he first nodded at her, then shifted his attention to the man with her, giving him the same smile, before speaking again.
"I see you're signed up for the tournament as well, and that there's a chance we might end up against each other in the second round."

And then a Stormy was poking in between them. "Hey, Full Moon," she hummed absentmindedly, half lidded eyes scanning the roster, hands secured behind her back as she briefly invaded personal space. There was no excessive touching, though, nor an affectionate greeting--she almost looked like she had rolled out of bed and directly onto the field, but there was something more subdued about it.
Her brows did rise at Tuck's first opponent, though. She pretended not to notice Finn as he came into view.
"Huh. Interesting." Stormy pressed her lips together in thought as she stepped back, knowing she ought to be more excited about getting a free pass on the first round but finding it difficult to rouse the energy. "You two ready?"

"Fini, if you were that desperate for company, I would have swooped in sooner~"
Jack strode onto the fields at a lazy gait, unconcerned with the brackets for right now. Why read when you could use it as an excuse to bother people? He squinted at the albino she spoke with, now able to put a name to a face, before turning back to the silver haired hunter. "So! What's the verdict on the board?"
Jason was still asking himself why he signed up for this tournament in the first place, as the full weight of it came crashing down upon seeing the hand painted banner go up. It was clear someone went to a lot of trouble setting this up, even if it didn't look all that 'professional'. But it wasn't this that made him question his own motives, but more the fact that he would have to fight other hunters. Others who were way more skilled and powerful then he was.
With much trepidation, he walked towards the boards that held the match lineups praying silently he was not matched against Rep. Or Robert, or anyone that was a full hunter. As soon as he read who he was matched up with he sighed in relief. He was paired with Sayaka, a very lovely and kind woman whom had been in the same promotion mission as Solia and himself.
...He was slightly tempted to just. not fight. Let her win. Yeah, that sounded like a idea

The first time Abbi had snuck past the roster and spied with her little violet contacted eyes, she had not had an opponent for the first round. The second time she had snuck by however (because actually trying to make conversation with people initially felt like fraternizing with the enemy, which was honestly very silly), her name had been paired up with another's. Which meant that she would not get to sit around and cheer, but would actually have to pull her own weight if she wanted to get anywhere in this tournament. Which under normal circumstances would be perfectly fine except that majority of the inhabitants of the Island were probably here watching the tournament. And that meant she had to bring her A-Game except she hadn't really figured out what that was and was starting to mildly panic now that she was considering it. And mild panic was morphing into full blown worry and Abbi just really needed to talk to someone right now.
There was a tall blonde dude that looked a lot like Finn but Abbi wasn't sure and she was starting to get a little misty eyed and maybe he was talking to some people whatever she would talk to them too. "F-f-f-f-f-inn is th-th-that y-yoooouuuu?" She wibbled at him for about two seconds until she waved forlornly at the two people talking to the dude and then noticed Stormy. "Stormy Stormy I wasn't gonna fight anyone at fist and now I am and now I don't know what to do an-an-and Finn dyed his hair." Abbi was having a lot of feelings right now. So she gave a pitiful look to the two other people. They would understand her plight, how scary it was for a newbie to fight in front of everybody on the Island right?!
Bix spun when Fini called him. He looked flustered and then another white coated person jogged up, whispered to him, and ran off. Bix once more flailed and threw himself at a few of the boards again. Names were erased and rearranged once more.
"Hey.. heh.. Fini." Bix smiled and finally flopped in a chair. He yelled out suddenly. "NO MORE LAST MINUTE SIGN UPS. BRACKETS ARE SET!!"
Bix took a deeeeep breath, released it and finally grinned back to the young woman who'd called him. "I didn't expect this to turn into this big a thing!"

Heidi squeaked as Stormy squeezed between her and Tuck, referring to them as the little ship name she had given when the girl had first found out both Heidi and Tuck were moon. It made her blush, giggling and scratching her cheek. "Hi, Stormy~. How are you?" Was she okay? She didn't seem as cheerful as last time she had seen her. "Yeah, I think I'm ready! I find it interesting I get to skip the first round. Hopefully it'll go okay."
Someone approached them and Heidi looked to see who it was, not recognizing the voice just yet, but she was glad to see who had arrived. Perfect timing! "Finn? Whoa, you changed your hair. Nice, I like it. Hi! And yeah, I know, right? Actually, we were just talking about you! Finn, this is Tuck, your first opponent~!" Heidi cheerfully introduced her boyfriend, smiling fondly up at the man before gesturing to Finn. "Tuck, this is Finn."
Introductions made, Heidi felt comfortable that whoever won the first fight would be fun to go up against herself.
Yet another girl approached them, one Heidi didn't recognize! She grinned, giving her a wave. "Hi there!" Oh dear. She seemed pretty shy. It's okay, bro. It's okay.

Saya appeared behind Jason in the bracket, peeking out from the side. She looked at the board, her eyes widening and then glancing to the hunter next to her. She remembered Jake, from their puppies mission.
"Oh."
It was mixed feelings. Fighting someone she didn't know would have been an ideal preference, but how was that better than fighting someone you did know? It was rude both ways, as Saya's eyebrows furrowed in thought. Now that she thought about it, neither idea seemed pleasing. Why did she sign up for this anyways?
"I'm glad to be.. fighting you!"
Hesitated was noted.
"Try your best, although my hopes aren't that high." Promptos was very encouraging.
