Lackluster Mine

User Image

Located on the outer edge of the Iron City is a colossal hole in the landscape, home to one of the main Mines in the City and a large manufacturing plant that process and molds the ores that are retrieved from the ground. Over time, as the Mine was pushed deeper, more buildings were added.. Factories and even housing built to ensure a steady flow of ore and product from the company and maximize profits. It is a place that never seems to sleep, the employees working in shifts and going into the City on their time off. The workers are paid well, but at a great cost.. Some loose limbs to the machinery, others forget any life beyond their jobs.. Certainly it is not a place for the weak of heart, survival and money come first.

Known as 'The Pit' by the locals this place is filled with those that have no where else to go.. Criminals, lost souls, and the forgotten alike coming to mine the ores or work in the factory. Some are put here as a punishment, others come for the money.. All of them are worked to the bone by the ruthless standards of the Ozarn family that own and manage the Mine.

This building is the home of Makovi Nymic, the only way to it is a large lift or a metal walkway secured to the side of the cliff.

Far beyond the hazy borders of my heart
I can see a place
It's something like this
Every now and then I don't know what to do
Still I know that I
Can never go back

Runa had taken some days off from the depot back home in Neutral City, she had an order that required specially charged batteries. Required the best in Occulas actually. And none other place than that of Lackluster Mine. Apparently and certain man of electrical talent could charge batteries in such a way. She had to admit, she liked Asmodius, it was one of the greatest places for buildings machinery, but perhaps not the nicest place to live in terms of view.

Arriving int he center, she looked up and found the house of Makovi Nymic, the man in question. That Zeppelin journey sure bored her, a few days though and she was here. She could only hope this could get done quickly, business called, and money was waiting. Waiting for the large metallic lift to fall down was almost painful, the gears of Asmodius were notorious for scratching. Getting on she waited for it to arrive at the top, where hopefully she would be greeted by one said man. Box on her hip held in place with her right arm, she patiently waited.

And oh, I know, the world of Real Emotion
Has surrounded me
I won't give into it
Now I know, that world
It is the only way my heart can go
I hear your voice calling out to me
You'll never be alone

If from time to time
It's an upward climb
All I know is that I must believe
Cause the truth I'm seeking
Always was inside of me

The quiet hum of the lift was the first warning that someone was coming up.. The boy stretching in his lofty resting place as he debated how badly he wanted to stay and ignore them. He'd taken a liking to sleeping on top of one of the old shed-sized generators the Miners had moved up here for him to fix.. Honestly it was working fine already, but since he enjoyed napping on it he did not tell them that it was good to go. However.. the fact that someone had come up this far was a good hint that there would be money involved; Money was not something to ignore.

Giving a last, leisurely, stretch the boy sighed.. sitting up and sliding off of the hulking machine to land in a crouch by its side. His white hair was shaggy with sleep, his clothes a little dusty from working late the night before.. But he could care less. He was clean-ish, much cleaner than the Miners down below, so his 'guest' would have to make due. With that stubborn thought in mind the boy stood and prowled over to the railing to get a good look at the person aboard the metal lift. It was a little surprising to see that it was a woman, alone, in this place but from the way she held herself.. Mac had a distinct feeling he didn't want find out how well she could defend herself. A little amused at this he folded his arms and leaned his side against one of the support poles for the lift.. In plain view of the woman who had interrupted his nap. " What is the order?"

As the lift reached the top and came to a hefty stop, Runa gazed upon the young man who seemed to fit into his own surroundings quite well. Honestly, she didn't expect someone to be dressed up too well, but she didn't judge that either. Lifting the box up with both hands she then held it up with one. Resting her spare hand on her hip she said I'm here for superior batteries, the Nymic-kind. Presuming you are him' she then cocked a brow and stared at him.

" Perhaps." Blinking his gaze shifted from her to the box in question and Makovi relaxed a little, turning his back on the stranger and walking towards the warehouse in which he lived.. the giant door already half open on its sliding tracks as though to accommodate something large. Inside parts could be seen scattered about and a long table rested against the left wall, papers and lamps placed as if in different work stations or planning stations. The first floor was his work shop, the second was his living space and firmly out of the way behind another partially open sliding door.

A Nymic Battery, she said.. it was almost enough to make him want to laugh. Entering the building he moved to the left, stopping at the table and patting it with two loud thumps.. His electric blue gaze turning back to the woman as he finally answered her. " Half up front, then you may pay me the rest after you are satisfied with the result.. I'll also be lining them with metal to help them keep a decent charge so that is going to cost you as well. What is your offer?" He was going to mold bits of his metal to them, since it seemed to help absorb electricity and give the batteries longer life spans.. Not normally something he would offer but she had won points with that joke of hers.

When he gazed her and the box up and down she began to think this was the guy. Proven right when he turned to walk inside, she followed and witnessed the kind of work this man does. she noticed the few things before her, noticing this was somewhat... disorganised-organisation. Something she was perhaps used to back home with her . His gaze back at her was proof enough she definitely had the right person for the job, evidently when he explained the job at hand.

'What do you charge?' she then quickly responded, not wanting to make an offer that could be too expensive. Sure, she had a fair amount of money. In fact... she had a few hundred Octen on her knowing that this probably wouldn't be cheap.

A quiet 'tsk' escaped him at her answer, displeasure.. and a grudging hint of approval clear in his expression. She was smart to ask, if she'd offered a high price he would have held her to it.. a low one would have insulted him. Folding his arms over his chest the boy leaned his hip against the table, closing his eye as he considered what price to set.. after all this sort of deal was a two way street. Too high and she would walk, too low and he would obviously be paid less than he could have earned..

It was the metal crafting that was throwing off his prices, a normal battery was something he normally only charged 50-65 Octen depending on the size.. " .. 215 Octen for the full box." He was leaving room for haggling, as was custom in this area, and his tone made it clear he would allow negotiations. It was not like he had to pay for his trade, all the materials came from.. well.. him. So he was a little relaxed about prices.. if he found the buyer less irritating than other beings.

Makovi gave some signs of deep thinking as he came up with a price, Runa patiently waited with one hip cocked, hand placed neatly atop it. She wanted to make sure she got a good price, but she knew his custom batteries were going to be worth the price. '200 hundred' she then said with a quick adjustment of the way she were standing. She then went on to say 'And perhaps i'll be a regular customer if your work is good enough' still with her business face on. She liked to think she was particularly good at negotiations, able to keep her side up if it got beaten down.

She spoke truth, in the future she could see herself using some more of these batteries if they're good enough for her purposes. Potentially, she'd much rather good, sustainable batteries that won't blow up or fizzle out before their time ran out. Besides... she could get some good cash for these back home, especially since they were from across the Aerie Peaks.

" 210.. And I'll consider personal requests at a discount." His metal was good for more than just batteries.. Leon had used it for electrical weapons or lightning-based magic tools, it was light and durable.. and one of a kind so the merchant could price it high. He'd learned the market pretty quick so there was no way he would give it away like he had with his former friend.. Trading was much safer, and as long as their business remained stable he did not see any harm in offering her access to a bit of his metal.

Business was built on trust, step by step.. The question was did he dare put that much risk into this fickle deal? A faint spark seemed to flicker over his hair, a blue-white charge of static that reached the ends and fizzled out harmlessly; Makovi cracking his eye open as he added thoughtfully. " And of course, I will consider being your regular as well Ms..?"

There was no way she was a common merchant or one of the caravan-riders that moved from city to city.. She was too collected for that, her breathing never changed to nor did she have any nervous gestures to hint at a weakness. No, she had to have a shop of some sort.. And a wise Trader knew when to make bridges in business. Alas, this woman did have more experience in the marketing world than him.. his magic was already rising, making static dance again over his hair as if getting ready for the job ahead. Few people would realize this was a one of his 'tells'. He'd still go a bit lower on the price, if she pushed.

As the flickers of lightning seemed to arch in small patterns and flicker from his hair, at first she was suspicious what his next intentions were. Though she presumed this was business talk, and hopefully this guy wasn't as rude as her last non-magic buyer in Neutral City. She still wondered if he suffered any broken bones...

Her attention was grabbed with the question of her name. She collectively breathed in and revealed 'Ridus.' she placed her lips together, her eyes then seemed to examine his face before adding 'Rúna Ridus. I run The Unit in Neutral City.' The Unit was a depo based in the slums of Neutral City, she makes deliveries, makes some items, sells them off for better prices. It gets her the money to live, its steady and always has demand. Quite often by Hope Academy, where the students all require to design and forge their own weapons. 'And i'll settle with 210, but i would much rather 200 whilst advertising your services in the city' she was still trying to get it at her price, even trying to settle with him by suggesting she would get his name around town. She wasn't lying of coarse, it would be a mutual benefit. More would know of his talent, some would come directly here, others would go through Runa, each of them would gain a profit.

Damn.. Free business or a few more coins.. Exhaling in a low huff the boy moved his right hand, offering it to the woman as he gave a quick nod. " I'll take 200, but stay as the middle-man as much as you can. I don't need strangers haunting my door." He honestly hated dealing with unknown people, money could only comfort him so much. It was appealing though to have more work, as long as he did not have to deal with most of the customers face to face.. Ridus could take a cut for her services and handle them herself.

It was not entirely his antisocial nature that made him offer this.. In a way Makovi was admitting his lack of business sense as he pushed the job at his new partner. The work was easy to him.. pricing it, and staying firm in that price, was not.

((sorry for the slow reply, didn't see the notification))

The man seemed to accept her offer, but he obviously didn't want too much attention. She couldn't help but feel she had perhaps secured a business partner. Pulling out the money she said 'I doubt i'll be a stranger for much longer' and dropped the sum in his hand. Curling her fingers back up she heaved the box and placed it almost heavily onto a counter that wasn't occupied by bits and bobs already. Now it would seem she managed to keep her side up and didn't do anything for the wrong amount of money, Makovi was reasonable, and so was she, she liked to think. But this was all business for her so far. As soon as she can she'd like to return to Neutral city to use these parts to make a good profit.

From outside Rúna thought she could hear some sort of amplified sound, as if the military of Asmodius was using heavy duty speakers. Whilst listening to what Makovi might have to say, she slightly tilted her head behind hear to listen. she could roughly make out the words 'Stand down and surrender or be shot on sight!' they were threatening to kill someone? Surely, why would anyone be threatened with death within the walls in this day and age?. 'You have broken laws of the Guildeam and shall answer for your crimes against the 163rd Act'. Hmm... sounded more like someone was just breaking laws in the city now, but why such loud speakers, the center of the city is at least a 10 minute walk away.

(( You're fine, don't worry. ))

Pocketing the money he took a moment to secure the fabric, then turned his attention to the box.. prowling closer to get a good look at what he would be working on. Ah.. not a bad line up at all, she was smart to bring good quality items all this way. Turning away he prowled from one side of the warehouse to the other, gathering items he would need, before at last grabbing a large pail from what looked to be a smelting pit.. Returning to the table to drop the pail on the other end of her box. Lifting a ladle from the depths of the bucket he reached in and retrieved the first of her batteries, pouring a thin trail of a thick golden liquid onto the top of it in a simple jewel-like design. The metal dried quickly once it left the bucket, almost as if sinking into the battery itself as it melded with the object.. Looking like a trade mark. Though small this mark would let him charge it directly and, more importantly, recharging after a few nights of 'death'.

A few moments later and already a good number of her batteries were sat to the side, finished and cooling, as he cocked his head to listen to the odd noise himself. Makovi had ignored it at first, thinking it would go away, but.. What did the bastards want to make such a racket this far out? There were countless criminals in this area, so the message did not shock him, but the fact that they were being so loud about it.. just did not add up. Not bothering to look up he reached for the second-to-last of her merchandise, eye narrowed with focus as he started to pour the metal onto it steadily. " .. stay out of it, Rúna. Whatever it is.."

He worked fast and well, she admired his work and trusted that it would be worth the money she handed over. Taking a better look at his workshop she was also inspired. It was very large, held everything he could possibly ever need. She very much liked it, it was a true working space... she would love a depot like this, but the confines of Neutral City were a tad... small. And the city preferred a clean look, even in the slums. With the racket outside she had obviously shown some interest in it, as Makovi warned her against being a part of it. 'hm' she said under her breath. Looking over his work she asked 'Does this happen often?.. Sounds pretty serious'. Though she had been here some times before, it was not frequent enough to know what sort of action the Asmodius Corps took against criminals. In the background the loud voices continued with 'This is an official warning! Stand away from the palace!'. So... the interruption was coming from the very center itself... on King's Landing.

" No." It was actually a little strange.. Though this sort of thing did occur enough in the city it was never this loud. At least not the ones he could hear, it was possible he slept through them.. Setting the last of her Batteries aside with the others Makovi let the bucket remain where it was on the table, unworried if it solidified or not as he started to rub his gloved hands together quickly. A small charge was building up as a result, yet.. his focus seemed to have shifted at her question. He'd just told her to stay out of it, to show his own curiosity would be foolish.. But it was no use, the boy still murmuring aloud. " Maybe.. some idiot tried to hide in there. Either way it is not safe, if they are that irate.. the rest of us should stay out of it." What else would get the Asmodius Corps so riled..? Not to mention this woman had value now in their partnership, he did not want to see her get caught up in a witness sweep and be detained by the Corps.. He'd heard that the process was hellish.

The charge in his hands had started to spark, spitting small tongues of lightning here and there, but he handled it gently.. as though soothing the magic as he nurtured it larger. " It will take a bit longer in this form.. Sit if you like." If he shifted this would be nothing, but steadily feeding a number of batteries at once would be a challenge in this body.
