History:
Vincent's father was born in Kodo and lived there for most of his life. He met Vincent's mother when he was young and they ended up marrying hastily, on a whim. His mother was born in Grand Ile and so the two of them moved there together; Vincent's father spoke French, though not well, and they soon had a child together. Vincent's father proved to be an abusive man; he could barely keep a job, he didn't want his wife to be around her friends or other men, he even hit her. Vincent's mother thought perhaps after Vincent was born he'd change but it wasn't so, they divorced when Vincent was just a toddler and she left without taking her son.
His father was abusive to Vincent most of his life, neglecting him as well. They were never well off due to his father constantly losing his job and spending whatever money they had on cigarettes and alcohol. Vincent grew up bilingual; his English took after his father's, choppy and casual, while his French was much more proper. He spoke mostly French in school, and English at home. He had a hard time communicating sometimes, for what he learned in English didn't always translate over to French and vice versa. In those cases Vincent found his dad especially got mad; his father spoke French but hated hearing it. Vincent was punished for speaking in his home. Whenever he misbehaved, whether it was on purpose or not, Vincent ended up being punished; often times even when he hadn't done anything wrong he was in trouble, his father was volatile and unpredictable. His favourite way of punishing Vincent was burning him with cigarettes. Even when he was young, Vincent covered up any marks his father left. He didn't like showing them.
Vincent got in fights often; he was picking the fights as often as other kids picked on him. He was poor and his clothes were never as good as other kids', he spoke a little funny, and he was just plain mean. Vincent didn't like other kids and always ended up getting in trouble. He was frustrated and upset and confused when his dad hurt him so he often acted out in school; when he got in trouble at school they called his father, and thus he got in trouble at home... it was a never ending cycle.
Vincent always struggled in school academically as well. He could never focus and didn't do things right, so he felt like a failure and just didn't try. He put the minimum effort required into everything. He was never particularly passionate about anything. When he turned 15 he dropped out of school and ran away from home; he got a job working at a restaurant but was quickly fired for behavior. For years he was on and off unemployed and homeless. He got in trouble with the police, his first arrest when he was 15 after sneaking into a museum and breaking part of an exhibit. Since then until he was 20, he was caught for various other crimes such as theft, disturbing the peace, assault, and he was suspected in a few arson cases but he was never convicted.
At age 21, Vincent met a man in an alleyway; the two 'flirted' and Vincent pinned the man to the wall. The man left(read: kicked Vincent in the crotch and carved an A into his chest) after Vincent set a fire at their feet. It took Vincent a few days to find him again but when he did, he demanded lunch. This man later revealed himself to be Andre Dubois. Andre hired on Vincent and the two have been together ever since. Vincent helps Andre with his work and has also declared himself Andre's wife; he takes care of Andre the best he can, cooking, cleaning, getting groceries, intimidating clients, whatever Andre needs. Andre in return gives Vincent the things he needs and keeps him on somewhat of a leash; Vincent doesn't want to get arrested and be taken away from Andre, and so he doesn't do anything illegal unless Andre gives him the OK.
