Step 1: Capture Win: 50-100 (-5 for Drakeins, -10 for Vlidean demerit, +20 for trying to capture this creature four times before, +5 for help) 40-100 Rolled: 70 Outcome: Success! Words: 850 for Step 1
After traipsing all across Eowyn, protecting a little blond girl from hoards of Dragons, Sam was ready to get back to his Vlideans. Not that they were any simpler than Dragons to deal with, but the brown Drakein was never one for brute fighting. Instead, he found interest in the thought-provoking process of trying to tame yet another creature. But he'd explored as much of Eowyn as he was willing to at this time. So, instead of terrorizing his usual pack, he decided a change in scenery might be in order. The flashy birds on Serenia wouldn't even know what hit them! It wasn't as conducive to his magical abilities as his home was, but after that last fiasco, Sam was weary of wearing himself out again... So maybe this was for the best. He landed easily in a grassy knoll, and wondered where to even begin to look for his target. Surely, they wouldn't be too hard to find with the attitudes those animals had! Sam hummed in amusement and started strolling along the ground, keeping his muzzle to the air and his eyes open for any signs of them.

Sueno was out looking for seed pods in the forest near her home. Her mother had just given her a small plot of land in the family garden to till and fill with her won plants. The little child was excited and knew exactly what she wanted to grow: vegetables and flowers! Well, some fruit trees was what she really wanted, but those were hard to do... but if she could find a tree with ripe fruit on it, she would try to grow one, but she definitely wanted flowers! Pretty ones, pink would be nice.. Or those pretty purple flowers that bloomed on the shrubs by the lake... Or those bright red flowers on the tall steams that came from those spiky plants.. or... Sueno hummed to herself as she skipped along the forest floor, her mind filled with all the flowers she'd seen and wanted to grow. At a shrill cry she looked up and saw a small feathered animal in a nest above her. It was loud, but pretty! "Ohhh! Bright purple!" She'd never seen a Vlidean before, though her parents had certainly warned her about them. And this one was soooo cute! Couldn't she keep it? Giggling, Sueno began to climb the tree, her small bright teal wings fluttering to aid her. THe small Vlidean's cries became louder adn more shrill. Sueno pouted up at it, "Why're ye so noisy? Only wanna pet ya!"

It wasn't long before Sam was alerted o the high sounds of a nearby Vlidean. Well, not too nearby. It actually sounded like it was coming from a ways off... Huffing in determination, Sam set off to find it, eagerly following the high, shrieking noises that only seemed to become more volatile the closer he came. As he drew near, he was a bit surprised to hear another voice. A rather young voice. He was close enough that in this forest, the sounds seemed to be coming from everywhere, leaving Sam to scour the nearby trees in search. It was a swatch of blue against the brown tree bark that caught his attention in instant before the flashy purple color of the Vlidean. He grinned at the bird, then his gaze fell... right onto a little girl.
Alarm shot through him and he glanced around quickly in search of a parent-type figure. He doubted any adult would simply allow their child to play with a dangerous animal like a Vlidean. It would be even worse if they came upon the scene with Sam hanging around... He doubted it would be pretty. Despite his instincts telling him to walk away and leave the youngling to her devices, Sam just couldn't. He'd feel awful if she actually got hurt when he could've stopped it. Feeling a bit nervous, he skittered across the ground toward the tree. Taking the back of her shirt in his teeth, he plucked the girl from her perch and set her back in the grass. "Be careful! Sam scolded, the tip of his tail flicking. "Vlideans are too dangerous for little girls to play with! You could get hurt!

Sueno gave a shriek of her won when she felt a scaly snout grab her from behind and pull her away. When she was set down Sueno bolted for another tree and dived between it's roots, shrieking out, "Dragon! Dyn-Dyn, help!!!!"
It took a moment for her to register the words and the size of the "dragon." Pausing for a moment, she peered between the roots at the strange creature. It was smaller than any dragon she'd seen. And dragon's didn't talk did they? And dragons definitely didn't worry about a person's safety! Was this a nice dragon then?
"...Ye a dragon? Dragons didna talk right?... An why're V'ideans not safe tah play with?" She asked hesitantly, still hiding in the tree's roots.

Sam's instant response upon hearing the girl's shriek was to pleadingly hush her and look around wearily for whoever she was calling for help. It would be just his luck to be yelled at for doing what he thought was a good deed. He did his best not to look terribly intimidating, though he was still quite a bit bigger than her, despite not being as large as an actual Dragon... "I'm not a Dragon!" Samael snorted, his usual amusement pushed to the side by the rather sketchy situation.
The Drakein glanced up the the young Vlidean in the trees. He doubted anyone hadn't heard those calls. They'd either have to move along or snag this one pretty quickly. "Vlideans are mean, mean, mean!" Sam told her. "They'll scratch your eyeballs out and peck your fingers right off!" the Drakein warned, tail flicking slightly. "But look, since you help me find this one, I'll let you watch me catch it, kay? Then maybe it'll let you pet it."

So it wasn't a dragon... then what was it? And vlideans were that mean? "So I canna pet them? Ahh. I like tah colors on em too..." She pouted slightly as she crept out of her hiding spot. Since this wasn't a dragon and was talking with her, it must be friendly! "What ye mean by catch it? Yer gonna take it outta is home? Is that a good idea?" Sueno asked curiously as she walked over to the much bigger Drakein. Mamma always said she had to return the critters she brought home to the wild. Something about mess, taking care of it, her being too young... Sue had only ever brought back friendly creatures, like frogs, small birds and the like. Plus at her young age she just didn't understand the meaning behind taming a wild creature. She just wanted them to keep and cuddle!
"Mamma always makes me put tah things back that I take home... Does yer Ma not make ye do that?" She asked as she poked Sameal's scaly side timidly. She wondered if he'd let her ride him.. looked more fun then riding that old Hastar that Pa used!

Sam couldn't help but smile at her questions. The other blondie hadn't been quite as inquisitive as this one. Of course, Char was older, and off trying to fight things on her own, but there was something about this little one's innocence that brought a grin to Samael's face. Hopefully, it wasn't too scary of a grin. "It'll like my home just as much as this one." Sam promised, amused by her concern for the little Vlidean. "Maybe even more, since I'll keep it fed and protected and take good care of it!" He told her with a chuckle. His wings ruffled as the girl poked him. "My Ma probably would if she knew!" Sam admitted with a laugh. Of course, he wasn't even in the same flock as his mother now... Maybe he'd catch her up on his adventures soon. Speaking of mothers... The little Vlidean's cries would probably have its mother here in no time flat. And Sam already disliked the idea of his little companion being around if she showed up. He crouched down low, his wings sliding back ever so slightly. "You wouldn't be up for a little trip, would you?" The brown Drakein questioned quietly. She'd probably think he was such a creeper. Oh well.

Sueno giggled at this new person's responses. So other people's Ma's did that too! And he was gonna take god care of it, that's nice! I always want to take care of the creatures but ma won't let me.. maybe if I get older I can start keeping them? Would this nice person teach her how to take care of animals? She then clapped her hands gleefully at the offer for a ride. "Yay!" She sqeaked with excitement and ran around Sameal to scamper up his tail onto his back, giggling all the while. "Dragon thingy is fun! Ah... What's yer name? Ah'm Sueno! And what are ye? Could you show me how tah take care of critters? Ah wanna keep them, but since Ma won't let me, Ah canna learn..." She burbled out from her not to comfy seat between Sameal's wings. He's got a hard spine! She thought with a giggle as she wiggled about, looking for a good spot to sit more comfortably.

Samael chuckled at her enthusiasm. It was such a refreshing emotion to him after all the previous failed tamings and the questionable Dragon fights. "Hello Sueno." The Drakein said pleasantly, his tail tip twitching as he waited patiently for her to get settled. "I'm Sam, a Gaili Drakein." He replied. Satified that she was as comfy as she could get, he rose back to his feet. "I can try!" Sam replied exuberantly. Not that he'd had much success so far, but maybe Sue's willingness to learn would keep him going. It was like he had his own apprentice now! He beamed at the thought. "Let's start with this little one! Hold on tight!" Samael ordered as he kicked up into the air.
Alarmed by the sudden motion from below, the Vlidean hopped to its paws on the branch, it's purple feathered wings fluttering in suspicion. Sam swiped a heavy paw at it, causing the Vlidean to back-peddle right off the branch with a shriek. It beat its wings to right itself, but before it could gain any aerial momentum, Sam snatched it up by the colorful fur at the back of its neck. It momentarily went rigid, shrieking and crying in his hold, but after only a few seconds it went limp, its little paws tucking toward its body, and its feathered tail curling up. Satisfied that the Vlidean was calmed by the position, Sam headed off to find a spot where he could figure out what to do with it that was far enough away from its mother.

"Wheeeee!" Sueno laughed as Sameal left the ground and few upward. Flying was so much fun! Pity her wings were to small for her to fly yet.. She kept her hands on his frill, making sure she didn't fall off. As they landed she squeaked at the shrill volumes of the vlidean's cries. That was a annoying call! Ma really wouldn't let her keep this one would she? Ma didn't like such noisy things.....
As it went quiet she leaned over and looked at the little curled ball of feathers in Sameal's mouth. "Ye look like yer gonna eat it!" She giggled "What'cha gonna do now?" She thought for a moment. The neighboring farm had a ranch, and she'd been allowed to go help them with the foaling of the Hastars to help her learn about animals. Her mother had hoped that the sight of the birthing process would scare her daughter away, but Sueno had been enthralled instead. "Um, tah neighboors next to my farm let me hep some times. They always feed the li'l ones lots of food and talk to them... Would that work here? Ah dunno what else would make a critter like ye..."

Sam set the little creature down. Once freed, it rolled from it's tucked form and shook it's feathers out. Sam would even say it shot him a dirty look as it chirped accusingly at him. The little creature's antics were amusing to say the least. Samael wrapped the tip of his tail around the Vlidean's midsection. It flopped onto its back and rolled about, pecking and scratching as it tried to remove the offending appendage. But Sam's tough scales were too much for the youngling, and it soon gave up, allowing Sam to hold it on the sort of "leash."
"Well, yes!" Sam agreed. "This little one will need lots of love and attention until it learns that it can trust us. It... Well, it may take awhile..." The Drakein admitted sheepishly. Longer than a day, surely. But at least he didn't have to wait for it to hatch, like he did with the Dactyls. "You don't live nearby, do you...?" Sam questioned curiously, hopefully. The Vlidean had extended his makeshift leash as far as it would allow. It cried out in annoyance and gave Sam's tail a tug.

Sueno, perched on Sameal's back, stared at the little Vlidean with wide eyes. It looked so cute! She absentmindedly twirled her single long lock about a finger and nibbled on it. She was only half listening to Sameal, most of her attention was on the Vlidean. "Uh huh- Ah live only an hour walk over dere." She waved a hand in the general direction she'd come from. "Can I help ye raise it? Ah wanna play with it!" She turned around and wrapped her arms about Sameal's neck and swung down to hang from him like a tree branch. "Is kinda cute! Ah bet I can help ye lots!"

Sam didn't at all think an hour walk was very close, especially for someone so young. But Sueno seemed to be okay with it, so the Drakein didn't argue... "You can help all you like." Samael replied with a rumbling chuckle. He'd have to do his best to keep the beast from hurting her, but she seemed compliant enough. He bet she'd do any little errands Sam might need done. He lowered her down so that her feet were on the ground. "Alright, I'll try and be around here from now on, so don't get lost, or anything!" Sam warned.
He watched the Vlidean as it tugged against his tail. He'd need a cage for it, or something more permanent to stop it from roaming... "Hm... Ah!" Grinning, Sam summoned his earthy magic and called forth slender columns of rock straight from the ground around the little beast, creating a roomy-ish teepee, of sorts. The little creature squawked indignantly, but after a bit of observing, Sam found that it couldn't escape. He smiled to himself.
The rest of his adventures were just as experimental. He had no idea what Vlideans ate. At first, he tried insects. It seemed birdish, and that was what birds ate, but no dice. Then he tried a bit of meat from his kills, but the beast just shrieked and turned up his nose at him. It was when a poor Bouken ran into the Vlidean's confines and was promptly snatched up and eaten that Sam realized it had to kill its own prey to be satisfied. For water, he created a hole in the ground inside the makeshift cage, and filled it with water that he had to transport from a nearby lake. This had to be changed daily. At least twice, since the little buggar was eager to preen in the puddle.
On days that Sam was feeling particularly alert, he would even let the Vlidean out, using his tail as a leash. Mostly, this was right around the time that Sue came around, since the little creature would squawk and keen every time it saw her. It lavished in the attention that either of them gave him, rather it was good, or bad. At least until someone touched its tail feathers, which it was very snippy about. Sam doubted that any amount of training would change that. On rare occasions, he would even let it roam about freely. Naturally, Sam had to chase it down a few times, but after what felt like forever, these instances became less frequent. Sam was also noting that it was growing a bit...
So, one day, he completely decimated its cage. The Vlidean was chasing a butterfly a few yards away, but it stopped to glower at Sam as its home was ruined.

Sueno was excited, she'd get to help! This was gonna be more fun than helping out during the neighbor's foaling time! She scampered happily through the forest, showing off the woodlands around her home to her new friend. Eventually Sam found an area to call home for a while that was close but not too close to her home. She squeaked at his display of magic. Drakeins did magic! Cool! She couldn't do any... except for some small magic that her Pa said would be useful in the future. Her magic focused on calming and healing. She wanted this magic though! So cool! To be able to move earth would make it sooo much easier to help at the farm!
For the next few weeks, she always snuck out at dawn to see Sameal and the Vldiean before she headed back with some berries as a reason for her leaving in the morning. Her parents just smiled and shook their heads; she must have an animal out there she's taking care of, they thought. After all, this wasn't the first time she'd acted this way! Last time they'd followed her and found her nursing a wounded Fekerat. So they just assumed it was the same. So long as she kept up with her chores, everything was fine. Sueno, to learn what the Vldiean ate, watched a nest of adults. live meat! By the time she'd figured it out, Sameal had already learned it. Pouting slightly at her discovery being worthless, Sueno entertained herself by practicing her calming magic on the Vlidean and attempting to give it pets and scratches.
She loved watching it and talking at it. She'd tell Sam and the Vldiean all sorts of things: from about her family (mostly her big brother Madryn who she idolized) to the things that lived in the woods about her. Sue could and did talk forever when she wanted to!
Her favorite thing to do though, was to play with it when the Vlidean was released from it s cage. She'd run around laughing, sometimes chasing it, sometimes being chased. When the Vldiean would try to escape, Sueno would cheer both it and Sameal on as he went to catch it. She thought it was a fun game of tag. Pity her wings were too small to carry her so she couldn't join it!
She came upon Sameal and the Vldiean just as Sameal destroyed the cage. "Sam! Guess what!" She bounced up and down eagerly. She'd found a book in her neighbors house on training birds. Continuing on without waiting for waiting for an answer, she held up the book (she'd asked for permission of course, stealing wasn't good!) "Ah found a book on bird trainin'! Maybe it'll-a help us in trainin' tah Vldiean to do stuff!"
