Where had Lucca gone?

In all seriousness, he knew he should have other pressing matters on his mind, such as the youma that had run rampant in his store and now took to the streets in a howling frenzy, or the fact that he felt physically exhausted and drained, but what was more important than family?

Captain Buddingtonite ran after the youma, a monstrous, yet its own pinnacle of beauty ice golem. This one wasn't the biggest he's ever seen, but she was certainly one of the more attractive ones he had ever set eyes upon, though he was certain that Stheno would feel a tinge of jealousy within her snakey body. The icy, jagged edges and the mist concealed the youma's soft, vulnerable insides, and it was Buddingtonite's job to make sure that no one harmed her as she made her slow, but sporadic march down the streets.

No doubt a youma this size would have attracted unwanted attention, and that wouldn't have bode well for Captain Buddingtonite, nor his missing cousin. Perhaps she had seen the monster's arrival and fled... not that he blamed her from running from that horrid sound that escaped through the golem's dislocated jaw, but it wasn't safe out here! Where there were youma running rampant, there'd be Senshi!

"Lucca, do not be afraid!" Buddingtonite called out, looking around the streets for a frightened, red headed teenager with fearful burgundy eyes but seeing no one of that description. "I can control youma! She won't hurt you, I promise!"

Where the hell did Lucca go?!

Some nights were worse than others to be out on the street. Pasiphae knew this from experience...and yet she came out anyway. Her patrols had dropped off for some time after the encounter with Bischofite... but like all wounds, this one too scabbed over. It would never go away, like the many other emotional and physical scars that she had earned over her tenure as a Senshi. It had to be this way. Someone had to protect those who could not protect themselves and... if she had failed some, she had to keep herself going due to the ones she had saved.

So, she ran towards the feel of a youma... and a Chaos agent not far behind. The exterior of the youma shimmered in the light of the street-lamps. For an instant she wondered if it had been formed of diamonds... but only for an instant. As soon as she drew near she wanted to shiver. This youma radiated cold. Its screams were horrendous, but really tore at the Eternal Senshi's heart were the human cries for a missing 'Lucca.' All the more reason to dust this monster quickly.

She leapt to punch at its stomach region, hoping to crack through the crusty exterior and get to its more vulnerable insides.

Even in his mad rush to find Lucca, it was hard to ignore the feel of an approaching Senshi, and a strong one at that, and any chance of Buddingtonite keeping a check on his temper was long since gone now. He let out a curse, looking for the approaching opponent and hoping that it was his senses playing tricks on him and that it wasn't an Eternal that was on their way. "s**t..."

Finally, he spotted her, just as she drove a fist into the youma's underbelly, and the appearance of the wings on the lower back was hard to ignore. He cursed again, summoning his boomerang, lacking the usual flare and finesse that he normally had. "SHIIIIIIT! What kind of rotten luck do I have?"

For Pasiphae's effort, she was rewarded with a pained scream from the youma, the fist connecting and forcing the howling ice youma back. For the brief moment that it was forced to halt its march, her hind legs buckled and split, threatening to shatter and send her tumbling back, but the liquid that poured from the underbelly pooled at her feet and froze instantly, threatening to trap the Eternal senshi in place if she stayed still for too long.

Which would have been just perfect for Buddingtonite, and he gave a rather snorty laugh, drawing close enough to her to get a better look at his opponent while she was handling the youma, but staying out of arm's reach of her. "Look, I don't have time for you, missy, though you do ring a bell of familiarity... say, have you seen a young girl around? Red hair, tied in a ponytail, burgundy eyes? Surely she hasn't gotten too far! Answer me and I may have this creature spare your life..."

Though with the way those jagged limbs were reaching for Pasiphae, Buddingtonite wasn't quite sure the youma would be willing to obey.

Pasiphae's head whipped up at the sound of the Negaverse agent yelling at her. Her answer was initally a pained hiss as one of her feet was coated with the watery insides that froze around the bottom of her boot. She struggled with it momentarily but the razor, crystalline limbs were a great motivator. She kicked her leg free and rolled away as quickly as she could.

Her aim was slightly off and sent her rolling into the side of a building. The girl oophed slightly but was, otherwise, undamaged. She pushed herself to her feet and only then could she answer the Captain. She remembered him as one of the four that had been involved with the large energy draining... that she had been unable to stop. The normally soft girl hardened, and she could not help but wonder if this 'Lucca' was a victim who had barely been able to escape his grasp.

"If I see her, or anyone else, I will keep them far from you," she spat. Normally, she would concentrate more on the Negaverse agent... but this youma seemed particularly nasty. It had already destroyed a nearby business by the looks of things... if this had taken place in the day instead of at night, many more could have been hurt! So she threw herself at the beast once more, aiming a kick for its previous wound.

Buddingtonite certainly didn't like that answer, and if he didn't have a more pressing matter on his mind, he would have rolled his eyes and exclaimed how extremely rude she was. Not that he could go into detail as to why he was looking for Lucca in fear of giving away his identity- for all he knew, she could have been a regular at his store! But she was certainly not being very helpful, and the captain was determined not to allow another youma to die while he was around to prevent it. He learned from his mistakes!

"Fine, some help you are! I'll just find her myself, but after I help this big brute of a lady take care of you!" Buddingtonite snapped, putting his quest on hold and focusing his attention on the Eternal senshi. Normally he'd never dream of taking on another that was a higher rank than him. He seldom wanted to fight Senshi that were at his level as it is! But an Eternal senshi could be troublesome for Lucca and the glory that he'd carry with him by proclaiming to end the life of a stronger enemy was simply too great to pass up. "First recruit AND first kill in a single night. I'd be a fool to pass that up!"

He readied himself, taking his wooden boomerang and charging at her as she drive a kick into the ice golem's soft underbelly. For something so slow and loud, it was offering a great distraction at least, and Buddingtonite could not ask for anything more. The blow connected and cracks begun to split its frigid exterior starting from the underbelly, and once again that dislocated jaw opened to let out a pained, but coherent scream, hidden beneath a beastly bellow.

'STOP.'

Buddingtonite came to a screeching halt, mere seconds from slamming the weapon against Pasiphae's exposed back, and he looked around. "LUCCA! Lucca, you twit! Where are you hiding?!"

It was enough to get him to back off, and he ran towards the other side of the youma to find her. She could take care of the senshi- he needed to find Lucca, before she got caught in the crossfires!

Pasiphae had never heard a youma's scream that sounded as human as this one did. The fact that the boomerang-wielding Captain had abandoned a pefectly good shot was another suspicious matter. Observant eyes went from the destroyed shop, glinting with frost, to the beast before her. There seemed to be a clear path between the two... and the implications made her stomach drop.

Youma were monsters. They were not humans. She knew this to be true. ... but there had been that one, that one at Bischofite's public hanging. The one that had hidden as human until Sessrumnir flushed it out. Could... could this youma be... "Lucca?" It was almost a whisper, but it hung in the still night like a prayer. A prayer that the sick feeling would go away. That she would be wrong.

With Buddingtonite out of sight and no captain holding the leash, the ice golem had finally halted its advance, and now that it had the senshi where she wanted her, that exposed underbelly shifted around and shook, causing the cracks to spread slowly across its form but unable to splinter any further. The way the form rattled and jostled around resembled a cicada, struggling to shed its heavy and encumbering coat but simply lacking the strength to break away, but still it tried. All the while the block of ice that made up the head twisted around, searching, the jaw that was clearly dislocated from the upper mandible threatening to slip even lower as the ice that held it together was gradually melting away and pooling at the legs to keep itself steady. But its sharp, jagged arms, which could have sliced into flesh like icy knives, circled around the senshi but did not strike.

She had the senshi right where she wanted her, and at the sound of that name, with no Negaverse captain immediately in sight, the youma was able to belt out another pained, barely coherent but still quite human whisper, causing cold but harmless droplets of water to fall upon Pasiphae's face and hair.

'Stop. Me.' From that pulsating underbelly came a puff of cool air, and deep inside, twin, almost shaped orbs of burgundy peered through. 'Stop.'

"Lucca, if you know what's best for you, you will come out of hiding this instant!" Buddingtonite cried out, unaware of fight going on behind him and had he not had pressing matters on his mind, he would have found it peculiar that there were no screams, nor sounds of struggle or battle at all. He looked towards the damaged remains of Sugar Shanty and wondered if she had fled back into the store. Finally, he looked back to the two, giving a shout and failing to see the Eternal senshi from that angle. "I don't have time for this! Kill her already!"

Maybe Lucca was hiding in the freezer. Maybe he put her in the freezer. Yes. That was it. That HAD to be it!

Time to play Lucca a requiem. =<

Frozen sickles surrounded her form, but Pasiphae was not afraid. No matter what the Negaverse Captain ordered, if youma was going to hurt her it would have done so by now. Icy water dripped down her hair and face, but she no longer shivered. The puffs of breath carried with them the final damnation of this situation. There was nothing more she could do for Lucca, whoever she was, or had been, now, then to give her what she wanted.

The only warmth came from the tears that welled in her eyes. She refused to let them fall. In a way, it was ironic. The Senshi would be following a Negaverse Captain's orders. Kill her, he had said. Yes, she would kill Lucca. Yes... because that was clearly what the creature wanted. She looked directly into the orbs that were almost the same color as her own eyes and said softly, "I'm sorry."

Her fist struck beneath the icy surface. She reeled back her arm the way she had in so many other battles, the way that Chaonis would have wanted her to, the way she had against countless other youma. And she punched again. And again. And again...until the youma crumbled and fine black dust mingled with her own dark hair, coated her hands, her arms, her face.

Then she croached in the ashes and finally began to cry.

It hit him like an icy fist to his chest and gut, and as carried away with his worry for Lucca he was, it was a kind of pain that Buddingtonite could not ignore as it brought him to his knees, a mere foot away from the establishment. Something was wrong, and the moment the pain had begun tolerable enough for him to breathe again, he ran his hands over his chest and back but found no blood. No one had struck him, and yet, the pain was unmistakable and real. Was it another attack from the senshi?

His mind shifted from one concern to the other, and he looked back towards where the senshi and youma were once battling. Only... there was no youma. Nothing but a thick black dust and a pool of water where the ice golem once stood. For something so big and terrifying, it was defeated so easily? How? Was this Eternal senshi that powerful or was the youma nothing more than a fragile glass cannon?

"What... what a useless creature," Buddingtonite said with a snarl, forcing himself back up to his feet despite the soul wrenching pain he felt in his chest, where his cold, black starseed laid hidden, and he stormed towards her now. Wherever Lucca was, she could wait! The senshi was down and crying, and now wasn't a prime opportunity to rid the world of her himself, then he wasn't sure what would be. A senshi this powerful, yet weak to break down into tears, could not be allowed to live. "Fine... I'll kill you myself, and when I've crushed your starseed, I'll find her!"

He was going to reach for a handful of her damp, black hair and give it a harsh yank to force her gaze to meet his, and the sight of her eyes... only drove the pain deeper, and just as he rose his weapon to strike her down, his knees gave away, and though the youma was no more, he felt cold. He shivered, and of all the rushing emotions he felt, why was it that fear and sorrow could be heard the most in his voice? "Why... am I feeling this... what did you do to me? ANSWER ME!"

Buddy: WHY DO I HAVE FEELS?

Pasiphae mourned in the ashes of the youma she had slain, mourned for the Lucca she had never known. It seemed like there were so many to mourn with each passing day. Too many. How could she have time to adequately grieve and still continue to perform the duties that became hers the day she first henshined?

The tight grip on her hair jerked her vision up, but there was little of her usual kindness in her face "I haven't done anything to you yet," she hissed, pulling her head free from his grip. She could have summoned her shield at this point. The feelings of shame it would bring would be punishment, as it always was, and it would keep her safe. She could havre done that, and in most battle situations, she would have done that. But the memory of that whisper was too fresh, too tender to hide; instead she shoved him back. "But you want to know why you feel?"

The Eternal rose to her feet, her black-coated hands in fists at her side. Cold water dripped from her hair, dripping like black ink due to the youma dust with which it mixed. "Lucca is dead... because of you. I don't know what you did to her, to cause her to change... but she is dead now. Dead... and it's all your fault."

Buddingtonite was expecting to be at the mercy of the senshi's attack, whatever that may have been. By now, he felt as though he had tasted enough senshi magic to handle whatever would be thrown at him, though he wasn't too eager to be proven wrong. Yet, what he wasn't expecting was her to shove him down, and despite the size different between them, it did not take much for her to send him sprawling.

Due to the pain he was already in and the position she took over him, he curled around into a protective ball, bringing his arms over his head and preparing himself for her wrath, and yet... while there were no physical blows that reigned upon him, her words were much, much words.

"Dead? What... are you going on about?!" Buddingtonite snapped, lowering one arm to the ground to prop himself up into a slightly more dignified position, though he had little strength to stand. How could he, when she was feeding him such heavy news? News that he wasn't comprehending, and he shook his head, speaking slowly as if to try and make a child understand simple words. As though she was the one that misunderstood. "No, you're mistaken. That creature wasn't Lucca... that was a youma. All I was doing was... was..."

He wanted to say that he was only awakening her, bringing her into the Negaverse as she had wanted. That's what he was doing before the youma arrived... before Lucca disappeared. Before...

"I... I..." Buddingtonite felt the pain flare up again, and the sirens he heard in the distance pulled him away from the senshi before him. People were gathering in the streets and who could blame them given the condition his store was in? Lucca never did like the big crowd and the sound of sirens would have sent her running for sure! He forced himself to his feet and tried to resume his search, turning his back to the senshi without another thought on his mind besides finding Lucca. "Pardon me... I have to find her now..."

Lucca wasn't dead. Lucca couldn't be dead. This senshi was lying... she hadn't even SEEN Lucca. Lucca wasn't dead.

Pasiphae heard the sirens, but she did not flee. During the Ambush, the incoming police had been a relief to the end of a painful moment. Now? Now they sought to spare someone who did not deserve it. She had to make him understand. Understand what he had done, had forced her to do... why he would never find Lucca again.

She did not strike him, but she did grab hold of his shoulder and squeezed. The pressur was only meant to keep him from running away before she had a chance to have her say. The discrete girl had never been as blunt as she was now. "That youma was Lucca. You made her that way, into a monster. I set her free... the only way I knew how. You will have to deal with that for the rest of your life, Captain."

Now the Senshi of Shame's voice dropped. Saying her accusations aloud took the wind out of their sails and made her realize just how harsh the reality would be for him, if he had any heart. She wanted to stay angry, resentful, to lash out and cause pain... but she couldn't. It was not her nature; it never had been. Her softness lent her more to mercy. The touch to his shoulder became less harsh and eventually left as she whispered, "I truly hope... you will learn from this night. Otherwise... Lucca died for nothing."

With that, the Eternal leapt onto the top of one of the undamaged buildings and began to retreat before the authorities could get a hold of her.

He thought he could escape, and it would have been easy. All he needed to do was teleport and he'd be free from her magic and her words, but if he tried, he'd risk the chance of overlooking Lucca.

The pressure to his shoulder could not go ignored, and despite his pain he tried to pull himself free. He wanted to turn around and back hand the senshi off of him, and it was strange that he had felt a moment of clarity in their brief exchange of words. He remembered who she was, recalling her that one night in the park, before that flash of white light rendered him unconscious. Was that white light her? Did it matter? But recognizing her meant little to her, in lieu of what she told him, and he immediately tried to argue, shouting over the approaching sirens and whispers among the growing crowd. "What in the hell are you talking about? That wasn't Lucca! That couldn't have been Lucca! How dare you imply that I failed... that I..."

Her starseed was in his hands, growing colder and colder, until it cracked and shattered. His brow, which was once knit with rage, suddenly broke and his expression changed. His crimson eyes were set on Pasiphae, but it never focused on her. He didn't see her. He saw Lucca. Her scream as her face was consumed in ice rung in his ears, and the softening of the senshi's touch offered him no comfort. How could it? Why would it?

How could one take comfort... in knowing that he had failed? That he had failed not only the Negaverse, but family? That he had killed...

Pasiphae had released him and she said something, but Buddingtonite wasn't paying attention. Something about dying for nothing... what did he care? The pain had not dissipated in the least, but he didn't truly feel it anymore. He didn't have time to worry about that senshi, or the throbbing of his chest and the tears that streamed down his face.

The authorities arrived and were piling out of the cars, but Buddingtonite would not greet them. Having found what he was looking for, he had no reason to linger, and with what remaining strength he had, he teleported himself away. Where? He didn't know. He didn't care. Away from Sugar Shanty. Away from Pasiphae.

Away from Lucca's remains. Just away...
