Roleplayers: Poisin Ivy Josephine & Roxy_roxanna2 Area: The Dead City Herla Involved: Belle & Beast Belle had been worried almost sick, even reading wasn't enough to fully distract her. Late the night before she'd heard yappers in the distance and her heart had pounded with fright. It had been three days and now that she had admitted her love for him Beast's absence ate away at her. She knew he would come back if he were able, but what if he wasn't able? She remembered the Talons, their ferocity, but Beast was strong and brave he would be alright. She had to keep telling herself he would be alright or she would panic and...no she couldn't leave, she promised to be here when he returned and he would return!
Slowly she paced the scent of his roses clung lightly to her fur from her proximity to them. She didn't touch them, she knew how much they meant to him, she only lay near them to feel nearer to him. With a sigh she laid herself down near the empty fireplace missing his warmth and nosed open a book trying to distract herself.
"Please don't leave me..." She whispered softly to herself.

Beast had actually been having a pretty easy time in the city, It was cold out, and it helped to keep him from sweating or over exerting himself. It also meant his fur was less likely to be falling out and leaving traces of him. It also meant that food was scarce, and the Talon's that lived in the dead city would be out searching in larger packs. He'd nearly run into some problems, but for the most part, this had been his easiest trip out. Every time he came close to trouble, thoughts of Belle waiting for him, and never knowing what happened to him would make him extra careful. He could no longer think of just himself, now it was about the two of them.
He'd found her some beautiful pieces of jewelry, with yellow shiny rocks (that his guardian called jewels) all on it. He was certain that Belle would love it. He'd also found some preserved things, and even a small cluster of fruit trees for his beloved. All of this was in a rather large satchel around his chest, it made movement awkward, but he hadn't yet had any trouble with it.
But then he'd come to the large book store that he'd seen (and passed over) in the past. He'd promised Belle that he would bring her some new ones back. But as he walked through the old mildewed aisles of books, he regretted not knowing how to read, becuase he had no idea what to pull for her.
This was going to be a problem.
Beast literally spent two full days pouring over the books, pulling some, putting them back, throwing them to the side, he looked through the ones that looked like things Belle enjoyed. He'd never much paid attention to them before, and now he really regretted that. Finally, after his guardian had offered his help, Beast had a large selection for Belle to choose from. He'd even pulled one about strong female figures of the Bible, not that Beast actually knew that was what it was.
Happily he hoisted the extra large bag over his neck, and readjusted it so that he wouldn't fall over. He huffed, the bags were heavy. They didn't slow him down, but they made it awkward to move. And that could be a problem. But Beast had promised.
As he left the old book store he wondered how Belle was doing. He wondered if she was scared for him. He worried that while he was gone she would have come to her senses and realized that she didn't really love him. He frowned deeply at that thought. Did he really think a beautiful Hind like her could love a monster like him? When she could have so many other suitors... He pushed that from his mind. That would only distract him from the goal at hand.
As he moved through the ruined city, he began to think more and more about the things he'd done in his past. Did he really deserve her? 'of course you do' his guardian reassured him 'If the all perfect lord can forgive us of our sins, so too can Belle' Beast thought on that, it was comforting to think about it that way. Not that they often had conversations about a forgiving and loving god, they usually talked of a vengeful one... He must seem rather pathetic right now for his guardian to really try to comfort him like that.
Beast shook himself out of his thoughts. He wasn't paying attention to his surroundings. So he continued on in silence. Keeping ever vigilante of Talons. At one point he heard the sound of the screeching, and the Beast hid, not needing to be found out. Only after a full hour of silence did he start off again, and soon, he found himself back at his home. He pushed through his doors and then closed them tightly. He leaned his head against the door. He needed to tell Belle about his past, oh lord, he begged, give me strength.

The sound of the door made Belle freeze for a moment as she felt fear shoot down her spine. Slowly she stood her heart racing, if a Talon had managed to get in...but then she saw it was him!
"You came back!" She dashed over gracefully and quickly nuzzled his neck before licking his cheek. "I was so worried, you usually aren't ever gone so long..."
She noticed the satchel and tilted her head, had he been gathering all that alone, it seemed an awful heavy lot. "Come lay down and tell me how it went..." Tell me I didn't make you angry when I said I love you...she wanted to say, but she didn't. He had seemed excited when she'd said it, but the days had passed and alone she had had time to contemplate what his sudden departure had meant.

Beast leaned into the nuzzles, he needed to get these things off of him, so when she moved away for a moment he lowered his lead and let them gently slide off of him.
He wouldn't tell her the reason he was gone so long was becuase he was having such difficulty actually picking out books for her. "I'm sorry Belle," He muttered to her, "But there were just so many Talon's every where, I had to be extra careful. I couldn't take the chance of getting hurt with you still here." He half lied to her as he moved back into her nuzzle, moving towards the front of the cathedral to lay down on the steps of the altar.
"I managed to get us everything that we needed." He told her, not quite looking at her now. It had all seemed so clear to him an hour ago. He needed to tell her about his past. She needed to know about what kind of a monster he'd once been. But now, now that he was faced with the reality, his words just seemed so useless. How could he tell her this? "Belle I-" he started, and then stopped. His mouth opening and closing, wanting to start, wanting to get it over with, but not knowing the words. He'd once been the leader of a herd, he'd once had a silver tongue, and now, now he found himself mute. 'The lord gave the Mutes the power to speak.' His guardian tutted to him. And Beast grimaced.
"Belle." He started again. "Belle I-... We need to- I need to- There's something I've been meaning to-" He stopped and sighed. He'd changed so much thanks to his time with her, now he was so timid of his past, no, not his past, of her seeing him for who he really is "Belle I need to tell you something." He finally whispered.

As he slid the satchel off she saw the books, so many new books! She gave a delighted gasp and then looked at him her hazel eyes warm with love. "Books! You were surrounded by Talons and still brought me back so many books..." She smiled and then nosed one open gazing at the beautiful script.
"Oh look this one has the story of Queen Esther, she's the brave Queen from one of the Bible stories, she was strong enough to save all her pe-oh...I'm sorry you know I get excited." She grinned at him and then her smile faded as she noticed his nervous attempts to tell her something.
She walked over to him a bit worried and then slowly lay down beside him folding her legs gracefully under her delicate frame. "Yes? You can tell me..." She was afraid though, afraid he would tell her it was time for them to part ways, or to tell her he couldn't reciprocate her love.

Beast looked long and hard into her eyes. He loved her so much, and for a moment, he could see their lives together. See them grow old together, see them have children together, see the two of them finally leave this purgatory he'd trapped them in. He sighed and looked away for a moment, gaining his courage until finally he began to tell her his story.
"I was once a leader of my herd- we were pious and god fearing, and we prospered through worship, hard work, and strict adherence to the word of the lord." He looked away shamefully at that, strict adherence. "I was a proud Hart, and I had a- a beautiful mate. She was a shining symbol to the rest of the Hinds. We lead the rest of them by example, side by side. But, I wasn't a very forgiving Hart. In my mind I was never wrong, I had the word of the Lord behind me, and I didn't often meet with trouble or difficulty. I was happy with that life." He sighed and lifted his eyes, his head still pointed down. "The lord was forgiving, but I wasn't. And one day, I heard rumors that my mate was sleeping with another. And my power and status was being questioned. I didn't listen at first, brushing it off as mere jealousy of my perfect life in the path of righteousness, until one day, I came to our small patch away from the herd, and I found her, rutting like a whore with one of my most trusted advisers and closest friends. My vision went red, and and I roared at them. I called her so many awful things, I stamped and cursed, and when he tried to fight me off... I killed him." He said quietly. He'd head butted him, with every intention of putting him out of this world, slamming his sharp horns into his tender neck. Beast can still remember the blood seeping from the wound. "My mate was frightened, she- she begged me for forgiveness, told me how repentant she was. That she'd wavered, but that she was still walking the path, that she was still mine. But she'd been tainted. She was wicked and vile in my eyes. I wouldn't listen to her." He stopped then. His eyebrows coming together. He had just gotten back, but he already felt as if he should leave. Just run away and never come back. "I killed her too Belle." He whispered to her. "I kept stamping her, until she wasn't moving anymore." He felt his jaw tense, he'd replayed this a thousand times in his head. He knew what he'd done while he was doing it.
"I-" He felt his body quake for a moment. "I'd loved her, and killed her. And when I was done, and I realized what I'd done, I fled. I ran towards the dead city, hoping to die there, hoping to get lost there, hoping something would find me and put me out of my misery. But my Guardian wouldn't allow it. He kept telling me I was with in my right, he called her an adulterous whore. God how I wanted to believe her, she was a traitor to our cause. She'd been so perfect, so pure, but all along she was tainted." his face looked dark at that statement, he stopped for a moment. Trying to collect his thoughts.
"I found this place and took refuge in it. It seemed a sick joke that I should find safety in the house of the lord when I'd just killed my mate and my friend. I tried to stay angry in this place, tried to disconnect myself from my past, become a new colder person, above all of those things. But I found myself going out daily, almost hoping a talon would find me... but instead, I found a wilting rose bush, so similar to her do fragile like her... and I couldn't disconnect myself. I'd loved her once, and all of those emotions came flooding back. I realized then, I didn't deserve the easy death I was searching for. So I took the roses back with me... caring for them, as if I was trying to bring her back. It's why I'm so protective of them..." He whispered to her. He still couldn't look her in the eye.
"I really am a Beast Belle. I'm a monster..." He finally looked up, fear apparent in his eyes. "How could you ever love me, knowing what I've done?"

His silence worried her, but she waited as patiently as she could trying not to fidget. When he started to speak she perked her ears and listened quietly, she nodded softly as she explained the type of herd he had once been a part of. She had no comparison she had grown up in a library with her parents secluded from contact with other herla, no herd but her family. Then he mentioned a mate, his beautiful mate and she felt her throat tighten.
Oh...it was a shock, she hadn't even thought that his heart might belong to another. Her face felt warm, what a fool she'd been to declare her feelings so naively and expect everything to fall into place like a fairy tale.
Yet he continued to speak, she blinked and listened, no this wasn't a fairy tale, the scene he described was something far darker. When he confessed to having killed the buck she felt her breath stop. Such violence, but hadn't she seen his strength, his power, his ferocity herself? Yes, against the Talons in defense, but what he was saying was different, murder born of passion. She could see how repentant he was though, how much it hurt him to speak of this, and then...he continued.
She stood because the story of how his mate had begged for forgiveness...the story of what he'd done was such a shock. Yet she could still hear it in his voice, the guilt, he had done wrong, but at least he knew it was wrong. She loved him, and this didn't change her love it only made her worry, made her fear her love wasn't enough for him.
She moved back to his side not wanting him to think she would turn her back on him. She lowered her head to nuzzle his head lightly as he told her about how he had come to live in the Dead City, about his guardian. Anger, he'd lived in guilt and anger for so long could he change? Yet she had seen that he HAD changed, the anger was there, but he was sweet to her, he was kind, he was a better herla than he thought of himself. The roses...oh, suddenly she felt guilty for even looking at them, she was still so deep in his heart how could she ever hope to nestle herself alongside so powerful a memory?
"No..." She whispered and then nuzzled him again, she looked down and realized how afraid he was. He thought she would leave him for this...he was truly afraid. "Love isn't like that...the heart chooses who to cleave to and we must find the strength to forgive, to help, to do whatever we can to nourish that love."
She licked his cheek lightly "I love you, but I understand if...if you still love her and need me to leave...I would never want to..." She slowly turned away trying not to let him hear how her voice broke. "to stand between you and her memory."
But let go, make new memories, a new life with me, learn to forgive yourself, leave to let go of the past. She wanted to say so much, but she couldn't, it was selfish. She looked down realizing how it had all come to this, she had started as a prisoner and now she was wounded at the idea of being told to go. Was this home, was this where she had learned to be happy? She'd been told everyday of her childhood even when one grows old, home will be where the heart is, never were words so true. Her heart had moved from the library where she'd been raised to this tragic place where her Beast lived.

Beast stared at her confused when he listened to her speak. Telling him that she didn't want to stand between him and her memory. "What?" he says shortly. His big eyebrows knitting together as he stared at her completely at a loss for words. "Why would that happen?" He asks her dancing over to her, trotting to cut her off as she turned away from him. He lowered his head and straightened out his muzzle to look up at her with his eyes.
"I didn't tell you this to make you think I loved someone else. I told you this so that the terrible thing I did wouldn't stand between you and I." He almost wanted to tell her that, Hind was a whore and nowhere near as enchanting as Belle was. But he felt that probably wasn't the best idea. So instead he moved in and nuzzled her, wrapping his neck tight around her and holding her close. "Because I love you Belle, and I never want anything to come between us ever."

His words slowly melted her worried and apprehension away and when he came closer and she looked in his eyes, saw how much it meant to him that she forgive and forget this horrible dark chapter of his life....it filled her with such hope. She pressed close against him and returned the nuzzle inhaling his scent and slowly smiling.
"Nothing will come between us then, what happened is in the past you're a different hart now. I love you Beast." She licked his cheek and sighed happily.
