It was another quiet day at Johnny Zeitgeist, an antique store not too far from Destiny City University and a name that was just a bit too jazzy for its wares. A couple middle-aged women were spending a day on the town and decided to mill about the shop for a while without any intention of buying. The white-haired boy watching the shop payed them little mind, though he did glance at the mirrors strategically placed around the shop from time to time just to make sure none of the shop's treasures wound up in pockets without being paid for.

As the women finished their browsing and made their way toward the door, the boy took up a dust rag and some cleaner and began to dust the furniture.

Though she had become quite fond of the antique store she had been going to, Delilah could not pass up a chance to check out another one when she found it. So today, she made her way over towards DCU and the store in its shadow. The name had interested her making her wonder if the owner was a foreigner or something. Still, judging something by its name when it came to items of age was a mistake.

Now as she came to the door, Delilah had to jump backwards as a laughing group of old ladies made their way out the door. None of them noticed her or apologized for nearly smacking her in the face which caused the teen to send a glare their way. "And they call us disrespectful." Her words were muttered as she walked through the closing door. She wasn't even wearing short shorts!

Delilah was quickly met with several pieces but her eyes were drawn towards the beautifully carved wood of an old chair. Walking softly, she crossed over to it and ran her hand down its side until she winced. Drawing her finger to her mouth, she looked down at it and realized a old tack was sticking out of the cushion. "Ouch." She sighed and looked to see if it had drawn blood.

Emry glanced up from his cleaning when he heard a voice cry out in pain. Setting down the rag and dust polish, he hurried over to the injured customer.

"Are you alright? What happened?"

There was a small amount of blood coming up from the tip of her finger. Nothing too much but enough to be annoying and cause as much pain as a paper cut.

Sighing as she looked at it, Delilah almost missed the voice calling out from her side. She turned just in time to see a man coming towards her. "Oh. It's nothing serious." She said calmly, wincing though as she shook her hand. "But are you aware that this chair has one or two of its tacks sticking out of the material? I caught my hand on one just now. I don't want something worse happening to someone."

Delilah wanted to say 'like those old ladies' but she refrained as she glanced down at her hand once more. "Should stop in a moment."

Emry looked down to see the tacks the girl had mentioned.

"I'll take the chair to the back. I'm not allowed to fix any of the antiques myself, but hopefully Mr. Ilic can fix it or find a restorer."

He cleared a small space around the chair before hefting it up, remembering his boss's mantra of 'Lift with your legs, not with your back! Legs, yes! Back, no! Lift, lift! Heave-ho!'

"I'm sorry this bit you. If it drew blood, you can rinse it in the bathroom next to the dress form and I'll get you a bandage. Even the smallest injury can go septic if you don't clean it."

He began to lug the chair to the back room.

Delilah watched him for a second before giving a nod. "It should not be too hard to find someone who can either just remove the tack or cover it. Careful one doesn't get you when you lift."

Taking his advice as the male started to work with the chair, Delilah walked back a bit until sh saw the bathroom he was talking about. A quick trip in, a little sting from the soap, and she was back out, holding a paper towel to her hand.

"Do you have it?" Not that she could help too much but Delilah did look up to see where he was going. Quickly heading in the direction, she went to open the door to the back room. When carrying something heavy, she knew she would only want to have to do it once.

"Ah, thanks!"

As Emry lugged the chair into the back room, most of what could be seen through the door were a coffee machine that was old enough that it might as well be a piece of the merchandise, a few crates, rolls of packing foam and a few more mirrors than would be expected.

After a few moments, he returned with an adhesive bandage.

"Sorry about that. Will this do?"

Sliding back slightly, Delilah took the chance to look into the back room as he moved in with the chair. She could see some sort of machine that looked like she wouldn't dare touch it. A few boxes and crates. And mirrors. Most rather lovely.

Delilah's eyes were looking at one in the middle when the male came back. His voice snapped her out of the trance. "Oh! Yes. Thank you." She reached up with her hand to take it and then began the strange process of trying not to used the part of her cut hand to open it.

"You would think they would design these slightly better." She sighed, trying to hide the annoyance opening it without fully using one hand. "But this is what I get for being careless."

"If you don't mind me asking..." Delilah looked up from her hands. "Why stock so many mirrors back there and not up front? You have some lovely ones."

"Here. I can open that, if you need," Emry offered to take the bandage back.

"The mirrors..." He shut the door to the back room, "...those are a recent acquisition. My boss hasn't set the prices on them yet. If you saw one you liked, they should be on the floor in a couple days."

"Thanks. I think I almost got it..." She sighed shaking the bandage open. When it finally did come out, she just sighed as it sort of covered the cut.

Shrugging, she turned her attention back to the items. "I'll have to remember that. There was on in there. It looked brass around the edges. I think I know someone who would like it depending on what era it was from."

"Also thank you. I didn't mean to stop you from what you were doing. Guess I just got so distracted by the carving of the chair I was careless. Sad that style is lost now..." She felt herself rambling but shrugged it off as she gazed back past the male helping her towards an old wardrobe.

"If you would like to leave some contact information, I can leave it with the boss and he can call you or your friend with the details. I haven't had a chance to read any of the notes he has on those mirrors, yet."

He returned to the dust rag and polish and put them behind the checkout counter.

"Don't worry about it. Customers always come first. Especially ones attacked by the merchandise. Feel free to look around."

"Thank you." Delilah finally said with a soft nod towards him. She turned back towards the door and went back to looking around, though this time she didn't seem to reach out to any of the chairs or fabric covered pieces.

It was a moment or two later that she smiled and reached back for a piece she liked. When she pulled it out from its hiding place, the girl smiled larger. In her hands was a small figurine of a blooming tree. Behind the blooms, two small doves. Add to the fact the blooms were red against the white doves and she just had to have it.

Turning it over, she looked for a price before heading back towards the counter. 'I didn't see a price on it. How much?"

"That?"

Emry squinted toward the location Delilah had found the figurine to see what part of the store it was in.

"The tag must've fallen off....or else people are randomly bringing things in and sneaking them onto our shelves. Let me check."

He grabbed a book from behind the counter and flipped through it as he paced over to the pace where the figurine was displayed. After a brief search of the area for the missing tag, he returned to flipping through the book a few more seconds before tapping an entry.

"Twenty-three fifty."

It was times like this that made Emry thankful that Mr. Ilic kept very thorough and descriptive records of the merchandise.

Delilah couldn't help but snicker at the idea of someone bringing in random items and just leaving them there. Though she had to admit, it would be a fun prank, if she was in to doing things like that of course.

Peaking over his shoulder at the book, Delilah nodded. "Seems fair. I won't complain about that." Looking at the piece she had decided on, Delilah added with a slight touch of sarcasm in her voice "Sure you can't through the man eating chair in though? It did seem to be fond of me."

She looked up at him, almost serious just to see what he would do. Otherwise, she would just take the piece and call it a day.

"If that is a chair's fondness, I would hate to see it in fully-blossomed love."

Emry's expression remained sober, indicating that he was either dead serious or he had a very dry sense of humor.

"If you really do wish to nurture a suicidal relationship with man-eating furniture, however, I am permitted to knock forty dollars off the price for the minor disrepair and as an apology for your injury."

He took a slip of paper from next to the cash register and marked the records book with it before flipping to find the page detailing the offending chair.
