Hijil had tried to stop the bleeding from the Radaku's claws and teeth, but the gashes were deep and despite her best efforts to bandage herself, the blood just kept coming. It had long bled through the bandages, and she didn't have the strength to figure out how to redo them. At some point she had moved from her isolated little refuge towards the only place she knew- the very place she had exiled herself from. Ast. She knew a healer there who could help her.
Now that she was dangerously close to losing too much blood, she didn't want to die. She wanted to live. Someone would help her in Ast.

She was still far away when fatigue took hold of her. Somehow, she managed to summon the strength to climb up into a tree and the safety it's branches provided. She felt cold and lightheaded. She had lost so much blood. She hadn't realized she had even had so much blood in her.

She didn't have the strength to leave the tree, and she sat listlessly on the tree limb, drifting in and out of conciousness for the gods knew how long. It was ironic, she thought, how right when she had decided that living was worth returning, she was going to die. She managed a weak burble of a laugh before passing out again.

Sauron was flitting through the trees off on his first real adventure away from Ast. He was sad that Kelina could not have come with him. As females went she was pretty cool. And he admired her bow and her class itself. Long range fighters were invaluable in battle. Not all could stick there noses right in it like his family had done for ages. He smiled at the thought of his grandparents. One day he would ride too. His head full of pictures of different colored Radaku he almost landed on a young shifter. With an indignant squawk he lost his footing, because he really didn't want to step on her and fell out of the darn tree.

After one of his least graceful forest floor landings he slithered back of the trunk to peak over the edge of the giant bough she was resting on. Huh a very very hurt shifter. He quickly hopped to the next tree that had the bark with healing properties and ripped some off, apologizing to the now leaking tree. He zipped back to the tree the girl was on and found a suitable indent in the limb to dump the bark into. He poored a little water in the indent and with a stick pestel set about grinding the stubbron stuff as small and pastelike as he could get it. He took a small canister that he had thought to bring on this journey, thankfully. It held a tiny bit of precious salve that he smeared into the bark mixture. He wrinkled his nose. This first aid cure was neither pretty nor well perfumed.

He slunk over to the girl who he thought was out of consciousness. He held her hands with one of his so she wouldn't freak out and punch him when she woke due to the pain and started applying the salve to the wounds that he found under the bandages. This would help stop the bleeding, prevent infection and aid the healing process. At least that is what he was told by his mother and father when they taught him this. Not the most fancy cure but it was effective.

After reapplying the bandages he used the trees to run the perimeter. Whatever had attacked her, he suspected a radaku from the wounds, had thankfully left. So in lieu of her waking up hungry and his own growling stomach, he plopped onto the ground while keeping an eye out and dug up some stubbron, firmly attatched to their tree, roots. Looking up he smiled, as there was a patch of the perfect kind of fungi not far from were he was. It was toxic in large amounts but the spores themselves could help cure fever. He piled up his roots and hopped over to the mushrooms, selecting a healthy fresh one he shook the spoors into his hand and funneled them into one of his sacks of water which he placed on the other side of his body from the other two so he wouldnt end up drinking it himself. He placed the mushroom back and gathered up his roots to head back to the tree to wait for her to wake.

He returned to the tree

She drifted back, as she had done stars knew haw many times for stars knew how long. This time was a bit different though. Something had changed. The pain had long drifted into a dull, unhealthy nothingness, but now she burned like she was on fire. She looked down, still too weak to do much more than list to the side a bit, towards her sides. The bandages were not as she had left them. They were a bit neater now. Less awkward. She blinked, her brain slowed by lack of blood. What did that mean? Did it mean anything at all?
A sound drew her attention to the bottom of the tree. Her vision was blurry but... was that... a humanoid shape against the luminescent fungal backdrop of Jahuar? She squinted, feeling adrift again.
"Are you... Death?" she managed, trying to get a better look.

Sauron looked up and smiled at the world weary face that peeked down at him. He snorted. "No, do I look that bad? You really must excuse my appearance Princess I fell out of the tree earlier." He crawled back up the trunk. And offered her the canteen that hung from his left side. "Here, there are fungi spores in here that will help prevent or bring down fever, and I might add you need the fluids, you lost a lot of blood. Can you remember what happened?" He asked as he tried to hand her the canteen. He sat down and started to peel the roots. With each vigourous jerk of his wrist the necklace with the Radaku tooth jumped on his chest. He knew it wasn't long enough to get him in the eye, he had tested. He was relieved that she had woken.

She watched him for a moment. It wasn't an issue of trust, it was more getting herself to move. Finally she managed to work up the energy to take the canteen and drink something. She could taste the bitterness behind the spores.
"No." she said, swallowing, her throat rejoicing at the water flowing over it. He didn't look that bad. He just looked like a shifter.
She took another long drag of the canteen, a little messily but at least she was drinking. "Yes. I remember. What happened." She managed another drink before she had to rest.
"You're not death. Who are you...?"

" I am Sauron. I'm only a prentice but I hope to be a rider some day. It looks like the mounts are nothing to sneeze at though, you weren't by chance trying to pet one were you? It sounds like something I would do."

"Or were you not paying attention and it snuck up on you?" He had seen that happen more then once in his time in the forest. "Its not as uncommon as one might think." He took the canteen from her and gave her one with just water. "Here, just don't drink to fast, you might shock your system."

"Pet... one?" Sure some people kept them as pets, but were they really, pettable? "Not a good idea." she said, holding the fresh canteen by her side. No risk of drinking too fast. She needed to rest a bit. Lifting it was effort, though the water was welcome.
Sauron seemed to know a lot about healing, more than her. She trusted him, though he was a stranger and, though he had strange ideas, it was good to talk to someone. His strange ideas kept her awake and, though she wanted to close her eyes and drift away, she wanted to be able to wake up again. And that meant waiting.
"Ambushed. A pack of them." she said, shifting position a bit to see him better.

"I never said I was the smartest shifter." He laughed. "Ooh you were quite lucky to survive a pack, well whats left of you anyway. On the plus side you still have your limbs and a few interesting scars when they heal over." He slowly reached over and smeared some more goop on her face, there was a small cut he had missed. "Yes, I know it stings like mad, but it really does help. As for the smell, well nothing will come near you now." He make a joking face, miming some awful smell. "It will wash off once your wounds have sealed over better."

His ears flicked and he peeked over the edge of the tree, some animal, not a radaku was walking underneath them. "I think the pack is well and truly gone. Since their favorite lunch feels its safe to walk around again."

Hijil, being groggy and all, checked. She did have all her limbs, which was a good thing. A very good thing. She took her time remembering the event. "I killed two." she said briefly, wrinkling her nose at the smell of the goop on her face. Other than that, she kept up a neutral expression. She'd had worse, honestly.
She didn't look to where he looked, but kept watching him instead. He seemed to be full of energy, which she almost found slightly offensive, considering how weak and like dead weight she felt at the moment. Almost. How could she be offended by something that he couldn't help? Heck, he even cheered up what little of her was properly awake enough to cheer up. "So I doubt I am their favorite."
He also seemed knowledgeable about healing, more knowledgeable than most.

"That would explain alot. Im astounded you managed two. That is a great feat of fighting skills. " He said impressed. "I don't think they will be back for a long time now. Which I must say is a relief."

He nibbled on a root. "You should probably rest soon if you can against the pain. I will keep watch." He was somewhat worried that if she slept, she would dream and then thrash around. Which would break open the wounds and she would begin to bleed all over again. But she was very weak and her body needed time to heal itself and counteract the physiological damage. He thanked his ancestors for giving down the healing information learned from training the Radaku. He reached for the tooth necklace which brought him so much comfort. As though his grandmother watched over him.

Hijil tried to shrug, but the pain stopped her. She wasn't that good, she really wasn't. "Was lucky." she said, watching him. He seemed fond of the necklace around his neck... or was it a charm? Did it matter? It clearly had meaning to him. Significance. Memories. She understood.
She was indeed relieved that the radaku had gone. Even with the one left, she doubted she would have survived long. But it was only hungry, she knew. Radaku were not vicious like humans- territorial, yes, but they too needed to survive. That one had gone to find something less costly to eat, and perhaps it too mourned. She felt sorry for it, wherever it was, friendless and alone. She had made it so. But it would have killed her. It's friends would have killed her. She did not feel sorry for the dead ones.
She felt for her own necklace, hidden in a pocket, and- for a second- rolled the beads in her hand. Sleep gnawed at her conciousness, and she knew she would have to rest.
"Will you..." She began, shifting on the tree branch slightly, "Make sure I wake up?" she said calmly, looking up at him with extreme seriousness.

"Of course, I'll toss you in water if gentle prodding doesn't work. You won't be escaping this world that easily." He looked up at the sky, "At least it won't rain you'll be dry for the duration of your nap and I won't stray far from your perch."

She had spunk, he wasn't that worried, eyes like hers held a lot of spirit and spirit meant she would not give up at the drop of a leaf, not when she had fought so hard for the life she still clung to.

Duke Edward Drake

Hijil smiled gratefully. "Thank you" she said, getting herself comfortable again before closing her eyes and giving in to dreamless, formless sleep. Her head relaxed downwards, but she was far from peaceful- her brow was worried even in sleep.

She would not give up at the drop of a leaf. Several trees would have to fall, possibly on top of her, for her to give up when she had resolved to live.

When she awoke again, the first thing she noticed was that she was thirsty. The second thing she noticed was that she was, in fact alive. Still chilled from blood loss, but alive. She could her heart working at pumping her blood through her body, hard work, but there. She lived. She opened her eyes to see that it was nighttime- her skin having shifted to white. What time of night, she couldn't tell- the canopy blocked out all but a few glimpses of starlight. She looked at her arms and sides and remembered the bandages and their applier.

Waking up a bit more, she looked around for her savior.

Sauron crawled over the edge of the tree and peeked back over at the curious herbivore that had followed him. Cheeky devil, he thought. He looked over and beamed at Hijil. "Good morning sunshine! My you are looking much better more like a fiery shifter and less like an angel of death." He hopped over and checked her bandages and sighed in relief, "And you haven't started bleeding again, excellent. " He held the water skin up that she had let go of while she slept. "Thirsty?"

Firey? Her?
Hijil managed a smile, accepting the water skin again with a nod. It was hard not to smile at this energetic Shifter. She drank gratefully, washing the grime of sleep out of her mouth. She could easily believe that Water was life, considering how even the modest supply in the water skin made her feel. It brought a cool shock to her throat and stomach and awakened energy bound down by sleep.
She swallowed the remaining water and looked at the bandages to see for herself. She wasn't bleeding, and she was still alive so that meant the blood inside her was doing its job. Which meant she was healing.
"Yes. Thats good." she handed back the empty waterskin, mentally testing her limbs. They were stronger than before, but she had a feeling that she wasn't going to be moving far for a while. "How are you?" she asked. It was a strange question to ask, but the cordiality felt right for the situation. He was being kind and generous- after all, he could have robbed her of the nothing she had in her sleep, or ended her suffering, but he hadn't. He was putting a great deal of time and effort into her survival, and she was grateful. Since she couldn't repay the favor now, she felt she should at least be polite. And, well, other people had always come first.
