Biroki watched Zuri closely on the way home. He was a fire mage, but he had been raised by a healer so he knew what to look for when a person' health wasn't all there.
Ever since the tournament, Zuri had been pale and she moved differently. It was hard for him to pinpoint how differently, but something was off. Maybe she had gotten injured in one of her fights? She had managed to go further than he had, and he bet the other opponents that got that far were tough! Or maybe the talk of war had effected her more than he thought? He wasn't going to mention it in front of all these people, though.

But afterward, when they had reached the set of steps to their home, he turned around.
"Zuri? Are you... feeling okay?" he asked, holding a hand out to her forehead.

As she walked home she didn't talk as much as she normally would have, it was enough that she hoped that Biroki wouldn't notice anything but at the same time she should have known better. Honestly she should have never battled, but her pride made her. She had known something was up already, but she had been denying it to herself. Even on the way back home she had to excuse herself a few times to throw up as far as she could from Biroki's eyes and ears.

As much as she wanted to just think she was sick, she knew better. Her back ached, and she felt sick every morning. And how could she forget the fact that she was always getting tired, and increasingly hungry. No she had seen these things in women before. She knew she was pregnant, just how to break it to her her husband.

As they reached their house Zuri was surprised when Biroki turned around and put his hand to her head. Oh she should have known better, of course he already knew something was up. This was Birkoi she was talking about. "Yes my love, I'm fine. Just a little tired is all."

...Well, she didn't have a fever, so that was good. He'd noticed that she'd had to excuse herself often for the bathroom on the way. He hadn't thought much of it, but now, putting it together with his healer knowledge, he started to worry.
"Are you sure?" he asked, "Did you eat anything at the fairegrounds?" Not having a fever was a good sign, but food poisoning was still a possibility. "If you're feeling sick y-you should let me know. I can make you something for your stomach...?"

Zuri nodded and touched her hand to his face with a smile. "My love I'm fine, nothing at the fairgrounds made me sick. Though I would like something for my stomach." she agreed with him. Okay so she had to tell him, and tell him soon. She wasn't showing, but she would be. But how... "Why don't we get into our room. I just would like to lay down." she said to him before she started to walk towards their house.

"Oh look, Belle missed us." she said as she heard the roati all the way from where she was standing. Her mother hadn't gone to the tournament and checked in on Belle for Zuri while the couple was gone.

Biroki was not entirely convinced that she hadn't eaten something at the fairgrounds. "A-all right, I'll just... Hello, Belle!" he said, offering a hand to the creature. She was just so fluffy!
Roati attended to, Biroki turned back to Zuri. "You lie down then... I-I'll meet you in there. With the thing for your stomach." he gave her a brief kiss and went into the cooking area- best to make that sooner than later for obvious reasons.
He set out the ingredients, one by one, measuring the amounts like he had been taught. Into the mortar and pestle they went, to be ground into a powder and added to water that was already boiling on a thought-started fire.
"Hmmm" he murmured, looking at the thickener. Sometimes it helped, but if it was the food- as he suspected- something lighter and more fluid would be best!
"Do you want spicy or sweet?" he called, starting the mixing (and cooling) process. Just for flavor, so that it went down okay and didn't upset things further. He thought sweet, but just to be sure...

Zuri nodded and kissed him back. This would buy her a little time. So how should she tell him? As soon he wasn't looking she put her hand on her stomach and started to walk towards their bedroom with Belle at her feet. It seemed even the little roati knew something was up.

She had decided that she would just come out and say it when she heard his voice from the kitchen. "Sweet my love." she called towards him. Okay when he walked in the room she would just go on and blurt it out. The faster she did it the better.

Sweet it was. He put in the sweet sap for taste and poured it into one of his clay cups.
"Allright." he said, walking into the bedroom with the cup carefully balanced. He held it out to her, "C-careful! it's hot!" he said, making sure she had a good grip.

(You mean Zuri here of course)

Zuri smiled as her husband walked into their bedroom. She took the cup from him and was sure that she had a good grip on it before opening her mouth to speak. She was sure if he was holding it he would drop it at the news.

"So I have something to tell you..." she started and hurried to the next sentence before she had time to change her mind. "I think I'm pregnant." she said with a smile. Hopefully he would be happy at the news and not go crazy.

Taking the cup away was a good call... a very good call.
It took a while for what Zuri had said to register, a blink's worth, but when it did a whole storm of emotions raced through his head. He could only manage a stunned "What...?", staring at her for another moment as the confusion began to clear. "You're... what?" it wasn't that he hadn't understood her.
Just...
"You're pregnant...? With a b-baby?" he sat down on the bed with a thump, "With our baby?"
His mind had seemed to still, though it was about as useful as when it was racing.
"How did...?" well of course he knew HOW, technically, "When did...?"

Zuri took a sip of the tea as she watched him. It was good tea, and it did help her feel a little better. She was a little surprised that he wasn't pacing, it sure seemed with the stream of thoughts he was having that it would be appropriate. When he asked with their baby she raised an eyebrow. Did he think she wasn't faithful? No of course he didn't, this was just him going through shock. She would let it slide.

Than he asked how and she started to laugh, when was a better question. "I think some time before we left for the tournament. Not to much before, but not to close either. I'm not really showing, just have all the symptoms so I'm thinking I'm not too far along." she said with a smile. Well it was good he wasn't freaking out in a bad way, if anything he was just being cute.

Biroki couldn't sit still. He got up from the bed and paced violently and quietly before sitting down again. He swallowed and counted to three.
Calm down, Biroki. Calm down. Calm. Caaaaalm...
He looked back at her again.
"So you... you just... knew. Recently. Then. Now." It hadn't been some big secret she was keeping from him. Where was he getting all these wild ideas and confusion and HE WASN'T EVEN THE ONE WHO WAS PREGNANT.
He started to cry. "I... wow..." the look on his face was shock, pure shock. "I..."
Maybe his brain was broken.

Okay things weren't going all that horrible, that was until he started to cry. Zuri put the tea down and walked over to him, wrapping his arms around him. "Shushh, yes I found out recently. I was only sure on the walk back, or rather more at the end of the fairgrounds after my fight." she said with a smile. Wow he was taking it much worse than she was. Maybe he didn't want the babies? Maybe he wasn't ready? Maybe she should have waited longer to tell him. "Is that…. Okay?" she asked slowly

He hugged her, burying his face into her hair.
"We're going to have a baby..." he sobbed. One would think he was the one pregnant from the way he was carrying on. He wasn't even sure what he was thinking or why he was crying or even if he was upset.
Was he happy? Was he sad? What the hell was he.

Zuri petted his hair slowly. Well this wasn't good. "Yes my love we are going to have a baby. Maybe a boy, maybe a girl." she said as she continued to pet his hair. She loved her husband dearly, but for once she wished he wasn't so much of a baby. Really, he wasn't even the one pregnant.

He felt like a damn baby at the moment. He cuddled into her comforting embrace until he could stop crying. Or at least stop crying long enough to actually comprehend it.
"I'm sorry..." he said. Other than breaking down crying from emotions again, he wasn't sure what else to say. "But... we are going to have it? Him? Her?"
