It had taken her a minute or two longer than she would have liked, but eventually a slightly more refreshed Sherry made her way down the hall to Jake's door. Cold water was nice enough in this heat, and she'd been bound and determined to clean up at least a little after the spar. Really. Tropical islands were...well tropical.

All in all, she was feeling better, almost good even, as she knocked on his door.

Jake would have answered the door. Really, he would have.
Except he was busy being passed out on his bed, still tuckered out from the last spar.
At least he didn't lock his door. As usual.

Sherry waited a moment, then knocked again. To be entirely fair, he rarely answered the door. Yesterday had been some kind of exception.

After waiting a few moments, Sherry gave in and tested the door knob. Yes, they had talked about this, ages ago. But after today... With no answer and complete silence he probably wasn't in. Which didn't help the doubt that was still trying to nag at her. She would just try the door, since it was probably locked anyway.

Except it wasn't locked. It opened rather easily. Oh. Well then, why not? Sherry poked her head into the room, just to see. And she did see. She saw Jake fast asleep.

Letting out a little sigh, she smiled. He had been tired after their spar, so this was only natural. She cleared her throat slightly and spoke quietly, "Jake?"

Locking one's door was a good habit to have. One that Jake seemed to lack even with memory loss. Or perhaps it could be attributed to memory loss. Or just fatigue. He was pretty sure he had locked it yesterday when Sherry knocked. At least, he would have been sure had he not been busy sleeping.

And so he hadn't heard at all when Sherry opened the door, nor when she spoke his name. The only answer she would receive was the sound of soft snoring.

Sherry stared for a moment, nearly chewing on her lip. She really should stop that habit. As well as the one where she watched Jake sleep. That was just creepy.

The proper thing to to would be to leave, maybe come back later or even the next day.

She sighed and stepped into the room, shutting the door behind her. She'd never been good at doing the 'proper' thing, at least where Jake was involved. Besides, she did want to make sure he was ok, just in case and all. Though mostly she didn't want to be alone again. She thought too much when she was alone.

Thought really, if you are trying to wake someone up, you shouldn't quietly step across their room. Nor should you be whispering when you speak at them. "Jake," She half crouched and half leaned, reaching out to touch his arm. "Jake, wake up, silly."

He hadn't heard her voice at first, but when she neared, touching his arm, he flinched in his sleep, and the snoring stopped abruptly. His eyes still remained closed for what seemed like a minute or two, and then he finally opened them slowly, groaning.

Still blinking, he looked up, a puzzled look on his face as he saw who it was.
"...Sherry? Did you need help with anything?"

She was still contemplating her actions while she watched him wake up. The way he looked at her when he spoke really only confirmed things. She should have let him sleep.

"Um, I, um... no. I don't need help with anything." She backed up a step or two. She should have walked away. Slow and steady was the way to go, especially when she seemed to be a little ball of emotion. "I was just making sure you were alright."

She smiled again. It was that smile she wore when she was trying really hard not to be sad. Which upset her because she should not be sad about anything. He was wondering why she was there, and really, it was a very good question. Way to be clingy, Sherry.

"You are alright, aren't you?" She'd wait for confirmation before apologizing and running away. She really could kick herself for being so damn pushy.

Though he had no why she was so insistent on making sure he was ok, he knew he couldn't let her leave just then, not after he saw that look on her face.

"Yes, I'm fine... but, um, do you want to talk?"

"Ah-" she started to speak, but the words refused to form. She did want to talk, but there was no way he'd be able to answer her questions. Not without some kind of magic or something. Everything she was afraid of was the kind of thing that only time would be able to answer. But standing there with her mouth open wasn't helping anything at all.

"Good, good. You seemed really beat, so I was worried." She looked down, then around, then back at him. "I can come back later. Or tomorrow. We can talk then." She was worried she'd say something stupid.

As he thought. If he let her leave now, he had a feeling she would just end up crying. She looked like she was already going to.

"No. Wait."
He let out a sigh as he pushed himself up, swinging his legs over the bed as he held a hand to his face. He still felt a little dizzy and a bit sore, but anything was better than having her continue wondering about things in the past. He only wished he could give her the answer she wanted, but even if he knew, he had a feeling it wouldn't be what she wanted to hear.

"I... I think I'm fine now. I had a good nap. We could talk, or do another spar, or... did you want to grab something to eat?"

She flushed in embarrassment and self anger as she realized how obvious her emotions were being. Sad was a lot harder to hide than she liked, and he'd seen it before, hadn't he? Heck. That was nearly all he'd seen of her. What exactly was she doing?

Sherry shrugged her shoulders, a little exaggeratedly. "I'm up for anything. If you want, of course. I don't..." Her brow furrowed. "Wait. What do you mean 'fine now'?"

She flushed again and gave her head a shake. She didn't want to be nitpicking words. "Sorry. I don't mean to bother you."

It wasn't that he was judging, just that... ok yes she was a little obvious.

"I, um... I just needed some rest. I was a little tired. I'm ok now though, really. And we can do anything you want, really. It's fine."

... why did he have a feeling he'd have to appease her with kisses again?

Sherry looked at him and nodded. Rest made sense.

Everything else, though... "You don't have to accommodate me, you know. I'm sorry. I'm just... it's been a really long couple of days and I'm still recovering." There was no point in trying to hide it. "But..um... I would like to ask you a question or two."

He was about to say that wasn't what he was thinking (ok, maybe a little), but hearing her request, he closed his mouth, and nodded.
"I'll try my best to answer it."

Sherry took a deep breath and sat down on the bed. She'd walked into this room with a million questions, but in the few short moments he'd been awake she'd realized how completely silly they were. And that made her feel silly. They'd just had a conversation about such things earlier, and he'd said it was ok. All of it. She didn't doubt him, but she had her doubts. Doubts and questions that she swallowed, because asking for reassurances already, or at all, was silly and childish. Only time would really tell, just like it would heal the gaping wound in her heart. She had a feeling she'd not even think about asking silly questions if it weren't there.

So she didn't ask any of those silly questions. It was really hard not to blurt them out, but she managed. Instead, she asked, "Ok. First. What do you want to do? Second. When is your birthday?" The second question was tacked on as a whim.
