Sauti was full of wonderful things, things Sathe had never seen before, and she was finally here! Big Sister had to go on a trip to Sauti to get more plant things for her garden, especially now that part of it had burned down, and Sathe had to beg her for weeks before she was allowed to go with her.

And if she thought asking Aminah was hard, asking Mama and Daddy were worse. It took Aminah and Sathe both just to get them to think about it. And they took more than she could count to decide. She was almost afraid that Big Sister was going to go on without her if they took too long.

Sathe was out wandering close to one of the villages by herself. Big Sister had to go out far to get the things she needed, and she didn't want Sathe to get hurt with all of the rocks everywhere, so she told Sathe that she had to stay close and not let the buildings out of her sight. Big Sister had told her that this place was called Tind, and it was soooo small compared to Yera. The buildings practically weren't buildings at all, they were more like tents.

But everything here was so different she couldn't help but be so super excited for it all. Even the small buildings. And to make it better, there was a strange animal here! It was short and had a big hump on its back, and the village raised them! Sathe had asked one of the grown ups here what it was called and she guessed that Capramel was a good enough name.

She was crouching near one now, holding out some grass for it to eat, but it didn't seem to want to take it.

Ime's mother had traveled across Sauti for a better life in a different settlement, but sometimes still felt pangs of wanderlust. When the time came to trade goods or search for assistance, Mama took Ime to the different settlements and encouraged her to learn more about her people and their homeland. Of course, to Ime, it was simply an adventure. The announcement at the tournament was lost on the child, and the fact that Mama had carried weapons on her back seemed no different than their trips with dried herbs and meat.

Ime was wandering the settlement, having seen an opportunity as Mama talked to some other tribesmen. She would not go far, she knew better than that, but Tind had capramels that she hadn't seen in almost forever. The kids who lived here didn't seem to have much interest in them either, though, so had decided to have her own little adventure.

When she saw that someone else was enjoying some capramel-time, a grin split the child's face. Yes, yes, she could make new friends! She skipped and jogged to the other girl, chirping a greeting and ignoring the great beast for the time being.

"Hi!" she said, waving and rocking on her heels, "Caprammemam... Cap-remmels are really neat, yeah?" Ime couldn't help but notice that this girl didn't look like her fellow Leaf tribesmen. In fact, she looked a little bit like the girl she'd met at the Tournament! Was she the same as Kelina, perhaps?

The capramel still wasn't pleased with the little girl hovering over him, and wasn't taking any of the offering Sathe held in her hand. Sathe gave up on the grass idea and put down the blades she had pulled when she heard small footsteps and a small voice come running up from behind her.

Sathe spun on her heals and beamed at the young girl. "Yeah yeah! You bet! They're so neat. And they look so fluffy!" She threw her arms up and out, exaggerating the capramel's girth to show her point. Well, they were really fluffy. "This one's a boy! I can feel it." Sathe didn't know if it was actually true, but it had to be. He just looked like a boy animal. He had that face, you know, that boy face. "This is the first campermel I've ever seen." She pointed out.

It was an exciting fact after all.

"My name is Sathe! What's yours? You're pretty!" She blurted out. The little girl really was. She looked like she was about Sathe's age, and she had blue skin, greenish eyes, super pretty dark blue hair and pretty purple crystals. She had never seen anyone like her before. She was neat!

Ime looked to the capramel a moment and tilted her head. It could definitely be a boy, but she was never sure herself. Once Mama had told her that a big red capramel was a girl, but what girl was red, anyway?

Clearly this other girl had advanced gender-identification powers.

"Thanks!" she chirped then, her smile returning, "I'm an Ice-Wind!" At this phrase, she stuck her arms out straight and teetered them back and forth. "I see capramels all the time, and sometimes they stink. What are you?!"

Fuzzy animals were less important when you could make new friends!

Sathe looked the girl in front of her up and down, as if she were assessing her family lineage before tugging on a chunk of her white hair. "I'm Leaf-Shifter! Can't you tell?" She thought that it was pretty obvious from her hair and skin, but maybe this girl didn't know. Sathe didn't really know about Ice or Wind earthlings, so it seemed fair enough to her that this girl wouldn't know the other way around, right? "My Big Sister is too. But she has green eyes and light colored skin." Sathe used her fingers to hold her eyes open as if exaggerating her point. "Her eyes are kinda like yours... sorta." She had to correct herself slightly. Aminah's eyes were more... light than this girl's.

She leaned into the capramel's fur and sniffed in deeply, tickling her face with its coarse hair. "They don't seem stinky. Did this one get a bath?" She giggled and picked herself up from leaning on capramel. "You didn't tell me your name yet, silly. How will I know what to call you besides Ice-Wind girl?" She laughed heartily at her own teasing. It wasn't every day that she got to meet someone new and she should know her name so they could play agian, right?

Ime nodded vigorously. So this girl was a Shifter too! She was like Kelina, but not entirely the same. She had some extra stuff in her too! Leafs, those people with the red and pink, she had seen some of them at the tournament too! There were so many interesting people about!

"Oh, sorry!" she apologized then and began to scratch at the capramel's side-belly, "My name's Ime. Names are kinda silly, aren't they? So different for people who are kind of the same..."

She took an experimental sniff of the big beasts shaggy fur then and, not being entirely offended, took another inhale.

"I dunno. It's not like the stalls, sometimes they smell like poop, and that's gross. Animals can't help it though, yenno? They're no like people. Not totally." Her strokes to the animal's fur became slow and thoughtful.

"Where are you from? How far is it away?"

Sathe bounced in place as she learned her new friend's name. Ime! That was pretty! Sathe was pretty too. Both of their mommies seemed to be really good at naming things, that was for sure. She stroked the capramel with Ime, thinking on what she was saying. "Names are fun! I like naming things; even the animals. It makes them special and different from everyone else. Because all people are really different. But in a good way of course." She held her finger up like she was making a very important point. "If people were the same it would be boring. Everyone can look and act so different, and that's really neat!" She lightly patted down on Ime's hand. "You wouldn't be so pretty if people were the same, right?"

She leaned in to inhale the capramel again and breathed in the warm fur. "Well, I'm glad they don't smell like poop like their stalls, poop is gross." She pointed her thumb at herself. "I'm from Tale. My family lives close to Jauhar though, in a place called Yera. I think it's so that Big Sister can have an easier time of going there so she can get plants, but I'm not sure." Her face acquired a thoughtful and deep look. "Well, we've been traveling for two whole days, so I guess it's pretty far away. Two days away." She laughed out.

A grin began to split Ime's face. This girl was smart! She liked her! It was just a shame that she lived so far away!

"Yeah," she nodded, and then decided to voice her opinion, "You're really smart, you know. You understand things, and some adults don't even understand them." Sometimes people looked at her funny or teased her, but that was stupid.

"I'm from right around here," she offered then, "Technically we live in Kes-ris, but we move around a lot. Winds didn't like to stay in one place a long time ago, Mama says. Some Winds still travel around like... oh, I forget the word. Something with a 'n'. Anyway, we see a lot of places, but Kesris isn't tooo far away."

She then added, as an afterthought: "Do you know the capramel's name?"

Sathe took in everything that Ime was saying like a sponge. She wanted to know everything about her new friend and her way of life, since it seemed to be so incredibly different than her own. She wondered what it would be like to move around a lot and live in a bunch of places all the time. It would be so strange; really she had only ever lived in the same house in the same village, in the same nation, and it took her until now to go outside of that place. Ime must have been everywhere by now! She guessed that Ime was what the grown ups like to call 'traveled', even though she didn't exactly know what that meant.

She gave Ime a strange look when the girl called her smart. She didn't consider herself any brighter than anyone else, but she wasn't going to argue. "Well you're really smart too then!" It must be true, since they agreed on the same things, right? Sathe thought back on Ime's travels. "How do you take your home with you when you move around?" She couldn't imagine something dragging a home with them. There wasn't an animal big enough to do that, except for a Kinfa she guessed, but that would be so messy, and wouldn't do a very good job.

She looked down at the capramel as Ime threw out her afterthought. "I don't, not at all, but he should have a name! What does he look like to you? I think he looks like a 'Turran'." She said the name as if she was trying it out on her tongue, and she liked how it felt.

"Well, it's easy. If you live in a tent, you just wrap it up and carry it with you! We have a little, um... well a wooden house back in Kesris, but we take a tent when we go other places so we don't... impause? Im... poooos. Impose? So we don't impose on people!"

Mama used that word a lot, and she wasn't totally sure what it meant. It was something like "annoy," she thought. She wondered if it had anything to do with "indy-pendants." Mama said that a lot too.

She looked the capramel over again and shrugged. She wasn't really good at naming things.

"Turran is good! I'd just name him Quiet. He hasn't said a single thing! Capramels make really, really funny noises."

Sathe nodded her head at Ime's mention of imposing and indy-pendants. She didn't know what they meant, but it sounded serious. It was a good thing that they had their own moving home and one that stayed in one spot back in Kesris… though she didn't know what that was either. "What's Kesris? And what is it like?" She beamed out at Ime. The way she talked about it, it sounded like a place, and since Ime moved around in Sauti, she guessed that it was somewhere in there, right? Sathe wondered if Ime was born in Kesris, but kept that thought to herself for now. Plenty of time to ask questions later.

Sathe laughed out loud at Ime's comment on Turran being quiet. It was true, he hadn't said anything yet, but she didn't know that they could make funny sounds. "What kind of funny sounds do they make?" She said between giggling fits. She looked at the capramel in the eyes seriously and made a strange sound somewhere between a moo and a grunt. "Maybe we can talk to him!" Sathe laughed out again after she had finished her last sentence. That would be silly, right? If they actually tried to sit here and talk to an animal in their language.

"Kesris is that way," Ime relied, pointing off in the direction she was pretty sure they had come, "I think... It's a Wind settle-mint! We used to live in a different one, but I was too little to remember."

She turned to Sathe then and smiled. Sathe sure was happy! She really liked making people happy, although she wasn't sure she had had any part in this one. Turran McQuiet certainly was pretty amusing. The sound was infectious, and Ime began to giggle as well.

Until, of course, she offered her best capramel impression; half honk, half yell, all incredibly silly. She dissolved into harder laughter then and leaned over to make eye contact with their furry friend.

Hrooooooonk!

She certainly hoped she hadn't insulted him! Maybe he would talk back!

Sathe laughed out at Ime's impression of the capramel in front of them. And then laughed even harder when Turran replied back. The capramel shook its furs and fluffed them up before bellowing out a large honking noise that obviously resembled Ime's more. Of course Ime had been around capramel probably all her life, so she would know more than Sathe would.

The capramel huffed out of its nose, blowing warm air on the girls before settling in for the long haul and laying down on its stomach. Sathe jumped with excitement before petting Turran again. "Oh wow, Turran! You're so loud!" She laughed out.

"Is Kesris like this place?" Sathe asked of Ime. She didn't know if this place was normal for the wind people, but it was definitely the smallest place she had ever seen. Even the places she and Aminah had passed through on their way here in Tale were bigger than this.

Ime laughed happily and clapped her hands together. Turran laid down, though, and so it seemed that he was done chatting. Perhaps he'd said 'I'm too tired for this!' That was funny too!

"Oh! Um... I dunno," she shrugged as she turned back to Sathe, "Kesris is like this, but it's a little bit bigger. Most of the settlements are the same, except some have more of a thing than another. This place has lots of capramels, and um. There's lots of farms in Kesris! That's not like other places." She nodded, apparently finished, and then was struck with an idea.

"Oh! What's it like where you're from?" She was curious!

Sathe listened intently to Ime's description, even though it was short, and reveled in the new information. Oh! She just had to go out and see all the new places. She had to see everywhere. There was too much to see to stick around in one place forever. Her Big Sister already knew that, she went everywhere too.

She chewed on her lip lightly as she thought about what Yera was like. What made it different? She clapped her hands as she knew what she was going to say next. "Well, Yera is in Tale, and is a lot bigger than this place. It's actually kinda big compared to all places. There are really tall trees -" She waved her arms high in the air trying to signify what she was saying - "And some of the people live on the ground and some people live in the trees. We build our houses up there. I live in a tree with my Mama and Papa, but Big Sister lives on the ground so she can be next to her garden." She caught herself rambling and shut up quickly. "Um, but yeah. Yera is close to Jauhar so a lot of different people come through on their way other places." She thought that summed it up rather nicely, and she smiled in contentment at her description, though she could talk all day. Sathe was a bit of a chatter box once you got her going.
