She was slow to catch on to things and that much Ofelia was self-aware of. It usually took her longer than most people in really obvious situations, that was for certain, but it was a little more than painful when she didn't notice things she should have long before.

Like the sky suddenly becoming more visible was something she should have noticed, or the fact there was no more power in the house she was (still) working at cleaning up. Or the fact the portals were down to the haunted house so she couldn't go out anymore and explore. Not that she'd gone in a while, she more or less was just loitering around the island and avoiding doing things.

Maybe there was the whole idea she hadn't seen any of her friends in a while? Not that maybe the considered her friends anymore? It was hard to tell. Everyone on the island seemed to wear their allegiances on their sleeves and traded them just as often as a person would a shirt. Ofelia didn't like to wear shirts lately, not that it really mattered, but she thought her own comparison to others was pretty funny now. Using her phone to try and text didn't seem like a good idea since there was no power and her phone couldn't charge so that meant...

...if she wanted company she'd need to seek them out.

But just how long had it been? Days? Weeks? Months? Ofelia'd stopped keeping track somewhere shortly after she started mostly just shrugged off the solitude. She had Rue's occasional scathing remarks to keep her company and a lot of chance for self-discovery.

Which meant of course she was bored out of her mind more often than not and all the time she spent trying to fix up the house(s) had her talking more and more out loud in an empty room. Eventually she got sick of the sound of her own voice - a fact a lot of people wouldn't believe even if she told them - and resigned herself to working in silence.

She spent a lot of time indoors, that was why she didn't notice anything going on. That had to be her excuse, was going to remain her excuse, and she held to it when she walked outside and saw the sky for the first time in...ever. A sky that was blue and made her think that something horrible probably happened and she shouldn't feel so happy that she could see and feel actually sunshine. People were probably dead as a result of that sunshine because if there were several thing Ofelia learned abut Deus and the resulting actions they were this:

1. Nothing good happens to people on Deus Ex
2. Someone is dead because people die every time something good happens
3. There were likely a whole bunch of new people here now too
4. They likely weren't going to be nice or want to be her friend either
5. MREs tasted bad and she needed to learn to make a garden

With the sun out and overhead perhaps there was a chance to make a garden. If the skies had changed that meant maybe the soil had too? Ofelia had honestly never given any thought into trying to grow a garden since it was almost easier to just portal hop somewhere and get groceries. There was also that nagging feeling that nothing could grow and survive on Deus other than what was already there. Perhaps the biggest thing of all was Ofelia had some knowledge of working a garden, she'd helped at the one back at her school growing up, but practical application where everything was dependent upon her was still out of her reach.

She'd need tools to start with. That was a major problem since she didn't have any in her possession and the idea of using just her bare hands (or Rue, since she was sharp and could be used like a plow) didn't quite appeal to her yet. Sure she'd use her hands to move rocks and stumps but for the actual tilling of the field she'd need something like a hoe or a rake or someone else entirely. By someone else though did she mean a helper or someone to do all the work for her? Her thoughts were pretty jumbled by this point and so Ofelia moved onto the next thing on the checklist for a garden, which was seeds.

Ofelia didn't have seeds and with the portals down she wasn't going to get any any time soon. None of her vegetables she currently had would work as seeders and she didn't think any of her neighbors (that she knew of living down the ways from her) had some either. With portals they'd always been able to get what they needed and the sky had always been gross. Now without portals but a nice sky everything was in reverse.

Perhaps this was a sign she needed to venture out from her hovel and interact more. Perhaps it was a sign that she needed to talk to others and see what they were doing and even figure out what had happened. Ofelia didn't really like all these signs in her face but at the very least it meant she needed to get out and do something.

Like maybe pick a fight.
