Patrol time, patrol time~ She might not like the heat, nor might she not like the usually uneventful patrols, but someone had to do them--and whether Stormy liked it or not, they were the easiest way to look like you were doing something and kill daylight. Even if it meant actually being in said daylight.
Having checked the roster, she noted she was paired up with one Ian Naha . . . awesome foreign sounding last name. Look, at least she remembered him from the cruise ship! Sort of! And she vaguely recalled a face too! She knew he was in Mist at any rate, which meant that this was a first encounter, which meant she had to be on her best behavior, awful temperature and sweat and things or not. It was very important to build good bonds with her fellow division peoples, and she was determined not to mess it up.
Which was why Stormy was happily chirping snippets of songs from The Little Mermaid as she arrived at the base of the lighthouse where their patrol would begin, because who didn't like music right?

Ian was being lazy.
Or, if he were to define it himself, he was being less lazy than he normally was while still being relatively unhelpful. Patrolling wasn't exactly something that he leapt at the chance to do, but a) it wasn't like there was much else to be done, other than work, and b) he didn't really have much of a choice anyway.
Patrolling it was.
When he showed up at the lighthouse slightly after the allotted time he was supposed to have been there, it was to find a young girl standing just outside, a vague, dreamy sort of music that was vaguely familiar reaching Ian's ears. It took him a minute to realize that she was humming - and another second to guess what song it was.
"Lemme guess," he said with an easy smile, stepping towards her with his hands in the pockets of his coat. "You like Disney movies."

As Ian approached, she touched two fingers to her temple in salute. "You caught me!" she answered with a smile. "Ian Fancy Name, right? You ready for a few hours of Town edge patrol? They want us to watch for shadows, but I think anything that dark on a day like this'll go sizzle and melt like Elphaba with water."
And speaking of that, she took a swig of some from her water bottle.
"A few things! Firstly, sometimes I talk a lot, so you can just, like, tell me to stop if you want, okay? 'Cause I have all this energy (maybe I'm secretly solar powered) and most of it is a little bit nerves, but this is good because normally I don't talk at all? Unless you'd rather that? But it'd make the patrol super boring. Also, besides tangents, sometimes I go off in weird directions," Stormy informed him with a bob of her head. "Like one time I told my bestie she's an ice cream tree and that I eat evil people."
Not that Thane cared (he was still highly disappointed about the last battle they had had and refused to talk to her), but even he found that statement a disturbing peek into the huntress's mind for most.
It was clear, however, from the way she fiddled with her clothes that Stormy was a little nervous about the social encounter--which explained all the babbling.

He arched a brow and then laughed. "Ian Fancy Name, that's me," he said, eyeing the girl with a sort of curious look on his face. She seemed younger than most of the hunters on the island, but her coat was slightly more decorated than his own, which he took to mean she was more advanced than he was. This was slightly annoying, but if he thought so, it didn't register on his face.
"Just call me Ian," he said agreeably. "I assume you're my patrolling partner for today? Er...what was it..." He snapped his fingers together thoughtfully before pointing at her again. "Weather. Er. Stormcl - Stormy, that's right. Stormy...something Spanish for your last name."
"And if you were solar powered, wouldn't you be named Sunny?" Ian asked mildly, sliding his hands back into the pockets of his coat and rocking back slightly on his heels. He glanced around at the lighthouse and the surrounding area.
"So what exactly does it mean, patrolling? We just do a lot of walking around and staring at things, is that it?"

"Sunny sounds cute, but Stormy fits me better~" And here she was about to go on a name and weather rant--up until Stormy remembered that Ian was new. Shiny. She had been hanging around Nevada and Gale enough that she had naturally gone into her rants where normally she would have held her tongue. So inwardly she took a step back and drew in a breath before continuing. Can't be spilling just because you're running on good feels, girl.
"Basically we watch for anything unusual," Stormy told him, clasping her hands before her and gesturing with her head to come along as she began walking. "Like how people said they saw the tentacles coming near the island? I heard some hunters ran across a shadow man too . . . You've seen shadowlings before, right? All've us have pretty much." She paused, then gave a sheepish smile. "But I bet you're already done and bored with all the beginning stuff, right? Nevada's mentioned you a few times--so I hope we can be friends too!"
Hopefully unawkwardly.

He followed along obediently alongside her, though his gaze flickered along the coat she wore, catching sight of the familiar Mist insignia stitched onto the back. So same division as he was, and yet still higher than he was and younger.
"Ah, yes," said Ian with a fond smile. "The tentacles. I saw them myself, it was pretty, uh...what's the right word...interesting, I suppose you could say. Although I was thrown straight onto a ghost zombie ship practically my second day coming here, so it wasn't actually all that surprising, really."
He gave a sigh. "Sure does put a damper on swimming, though."
Ian tugged at his coat and passed Stormy another glance, a half sort of smile on his face that turned into a grin. "Oh, so you know Hawkeye then, do you?" he asked, and there was a light affection to his voice. "She's a good kid, that one."
"As for the beginning stuff, well, it's all sort of tedious, really," added Ian with a little laugh. "It's pretty...mundane, to the say the least, especially with the power out."

Oh right, the ship...That had been an interesting adventure. "Sorry about that," she said with a wincing smile (as though it were her fault). "Deus isn't known for being especially kind. If it makes you feel better, I had a mission come up about a week after I woke up--almost died a few times before, well, literally dying."
She sounded remarkably optimistic talking about it. Progress!
"I wouldn't worry too much about it being mundane, though: something will happen and turn everyone around! But anyway, um, it's the company you keep that really helps you through it. Nevada's a very good one," Stormy agreed with a nod. "She's my roommate and best friend and Mist sister--I used to have a word for that before I forgot...Anyway, where'd Hawkeye come from?"

"So I've seen," Ian said dryly. "It's pretty...intense here, though admittedly I like it better than where I came from. This place at least has better food. Or, well," he corrected. "It did."
He didn't comment on the dying part, bypassing it nonchalantly and moving straight on to talking about Nevada. "Oh the Hawkeye thing?" Ian asked, and kicked a foot full of sand idly off to the side. "You know, from The Avengers? She doesn't have a bow and arrow, sure, but it still fits her somewhat."
Ian glanced sideways at Stormy. "Ever run into anything really chaotic out here?"

"To be fair, it never really had good food," Stormy said with a little grin. "You just learned to swallow it down. I'd kill to have even green beans at this point, though . . ." Or the chance to go out and buy luxury items. Like popcorn and hot chocolate.
She hummed in thought, careful with her steps in the sand and glad she wore boots with a little heel this time. "You know, I never did read or see that," Stormy mused while Medi made faces of horror in the background. "It looked nice, though . . . Lots of explosions and nice costumes and CGI~ He's the green guy, right? But chaos, chaos . . ." She tapped a finger to her chin.
"Normally it's pretty quiet at the base. I've only had two encounters: on my first day, I accidentally fought a fog dragon," she told him as a matter of factly. "I saw someone getting harassed and wanted to help, you know? The guy, Lucky, he definitely needed it. The other time I remember was the day we had a huge rush of shadowlings escape, so we had to clean them up."
The huntress perked optimistically. "Otherwise, the madness tends to happen offworld! How do you like Deus anyway, Ian? Over all, I mean."

"MREs aren't exactly a hot commodity around here," said Ian dryly. "I'd rather eat cardboard. Though, if you think about it, it's rather like cardboard, so maybe the taste wouldn't be that much different anyway."
He arched a brow. "You've never seen Avengers? That's surprising - well, it is if you're stuck here, I guess. But no," he added with a slight grin. "Hawkeye is the guy with the bow and arrow. The Hulk is the one who's green, and I don't think Nevada would much appreciate me calling her that..."
Ian nudged the sand around more with the toe of one shoe as he listened to Stormy. "It's...interesting, to say the least," he answered, with an amused little smile on his face. "I'm certainly never bored, that's for sure. Though admittedly, I think there could be more to do that's fun around here..."

She laughed (please don't let it be too loud, was it too loud, please sound normal). "Nonono, I know the Hulk! The idea of Nevada hulking out is hilarious enough--plus he likes to wear purple too! No, I was thinking of the other guy that's green . . . Wait. Oh, hold on, that's Green Lantern. Wait, Green Arrow? Are they Marvel or DC? I could never tell . . ."
Wait that was a tangent don't go on those stahp.
"You can always find something to do," she defended as they moved along. "Paperwork, patrols . . . farming." She snorted softly. "But it can get boring--that's why I try my best to spice things up for people. Like singing! Or talking to them if they look lonely. Or giving hugs. But that's just me; what do you think's fun?"

He gave a small laugh. "I was never that good at figuring out which was which. A comic is a comic is a comic, right? I would read them for fun, but I wasn't ever really one to get into superhero or action movies that much." Ian rolled his shoulders in a mild shrug. "I tend to like a little less action and a little more talking when I watch things."
Which was the opposite of his social life but that was beside the point.
"Sounds...fascinating," said Ian, with a roll of his eyes. But his smile was amused. "I'm afraid I'm not much of a singer, though. Hugging, yes, well, I do like hugging" (and more) "quite a bit, I have to admit. I usually just try to...entertain myself if things get bored."
There was a pause.
"Like coming up with silly nicknames for people."

"Talking is nice! Very nice. Especially when they have accents," Stormy said dreamily, thinking of a certain blond British boy. "I go on rants sometimes just to clear my head, too; they say people who talk to themselves are smarter, not crazier. But action's needed too! Sometimes you can talk and talk and talk it out, but someone has to do something to make it work, or end it, or start it." Or evade it.
She was inordinately pleased to hear Ian liked hugs, though, and it showed in the starry eyed look she gave. No wonder Nevada was friends with him! "Huggingggg is greeeaaaat~ Nevada and I cuddle all the time, it's awesome. And nicknames? Oh, oh, so do I!" Stormy chirped (see they had common ground let's be friends). "Although it's mostly so I can remember names, 'cause sometimes I can be bad about those...What kinds d'you mean?"

"Accents are fun," said Ian lightly, with just the faintest trace of one himself, though it was clear that he had mostly grown out of it. "And rants are perfectly fine as well. I'm not one for ranting myself, but hearing others rant seems to be a source of interest for me, as strange as it sounds." He gave a shrug. "Sometimes hearing what someone else has to say works out for the better."
She was looking at him strangely, and Ian gave her a slightly odd look before he smiled. "Yes, I've heard tale of Nevada's cuddling," he said dryly. "I plan on taking her up on that offer sometime in the future."
"Oh, y'know," he said, with another shrug, a slight smirk on his lips. "Calling Quinn 'Quintuplet' because it amuses me, or calling Shiloh 'Shyduck' because his boots are ducks. Calling Nevada 'Hawkeye' because of her eye. Stuff like that that's less for remembering and more for my own amusement."

"I plan on taking her up on that offer sometime in the future," huh? Stormy filed that away with an inner sigh, wondering if it was her turn to begin acting like a guard dog. Nevada thoroughly enjoyed being one on her behalf, after all, though at the same time she was super touchy with people . . . Sometimes Stormy didn't understand it. Lately it was just, on an unconscious level, beginning to wear on her. It didn't occur to her not to take things so literally.
But her laugh was bright at Ian's nicknames. "I like those!" she said. "Very cute! Mine're boring--they're all pretty much Disney based." That was the second time that came up in the conversation, and Stormy was now beginning to wonder if that made her look childish. Her hands fiddled with each other. "For instance, one of my brothers is in Sun, and he was very heroic the first time I saw him, so I started calling him Herc. And you've met Ms. Candace, right? She's Jasmine."
She stopped abruptly, eying the ocean. For a moment she thought she saw something peek out of the waves . . . Hmm.
"Let's pick up the pace," she suggested, not in the mood to fight Mr. Tentacles.
