Though he didn't remember much, he remembered that he hated minipet duty. ABSOLUTELY ABHORRED IT. He didn't even know why they needed to watch the tiny terrors with the island being low on po- oh. He supposed the FEAR that kept them sustained could also be used as power, but... well, he wasn't life. This wasn't his department. HE DIDN'T CARE. And so he sulked, staring at the minipet he was supposed to monitor as it gave him an equally unimpressed look as he waited for the hunter he was supposed to be stationed with to show up.
"Yah, buddy, I don't like this any more than you do, suck it up."

Finn actually hadn't been put on minipet duty before now, surprisingly enough. Maybe he spent enough time going out on boundary patrols that they had just let it slide, or maybe they'd had enough volunteers from the other divisions that he just hadn't been needed. The man himself was not exactly a fan of all things cute and cuddly, though he'd heard that a lot of these little critters could be far from either. Well, today he supposed he was going to get just the chance to see for himself. He really hoped that this little detail didn't include any kind of clean up, or for him to actually have to touch whatever it was he'd be keeping an eye on. He arrived in a fairly punctual manner, showing up around the time he was pretty sure they were supposed to get started, eyes scanning the room for whoever it was that was going to be in on this fantastic duty with him, and landing on a man not too far away. Making his way towards him, he opened his mouth as though to greet him, and then quickly snapped it closed as he saw what was in containment just beyond him. ...................................... Finn actually had to fight the urge to slap his hands to his face and say. "Oh. My. Glob." Like, the words were right there, on the tip of his tongue and it was just the only three words that even came to mind at the moment. But no, there was another man there. A professional, and likely Finn's own superior. He had to maintain some amount of composure here. Opening his mouth, ready to offer the greeting he once again intended, he instead found himself hissing out, "Holy s**t that is Jake. Like that actually looks exactly like Jake. How is that even possible?" Minipet duty just became awesome. [A.V.] The only time Finn will ever be beside himself with glee ever istg

Perhaps if Jake had been stationed to watch the ugly and horrendous-looking ones, he wouldn't hate it as much. If anything, it'd probably help strengthen his hate for those Halloween creatures. But tiny adorable poofy things made of FEAR?
SO MUCH HATE.
And the thought of cleanup hadn't even crossed his mind, considering the last two times (one he didn't even remember) involved the minipets breaking loose leading to all hell breaking loose and... he didn't remember that all too well either. Oh well. Wasn't important.
He found himself jolted out of his daydream when he heard a hiss, whirling around to see a brown haired hunter who looked like he had a mishap with some streamers. Or perhaps that was some new fashion statement he didn't know about. But that was neither here nor there. He squinted at the hunter, fairly sure he had never met him before. Or had he? Was he someone else he forgot? It still irked him how the hunter knew his name when he didn't know theirs.
"I... do I know you?"
Meanwhile, the minipet behind him was making a stupid face at the other hunter.

They were belts, Jake. Not streamers. Belts. Not that Finn gave so much as two shits about what other people thought when they saw his incredibly awesomely adorned jacket, it was just that details were important. But right at that moment nothing in the world was more important then the fact that there was an actual living, breathing minipet that was the spitting image of Jake the dog. Well, facially and color wise it was. It's body was...sort of spiky looking but you know what? Jake could totally do that if he wanted because Jake was awesome. This was awesome. Everything was awesome. Nothing was not awesome anymore. Of course, reality had to come crashing back down at some point, and with the voice of the unrecognizable hunter breaking the strange hold the minipet had over Finn, his gaze flickered towards the guy, and he raised his eyebrows. "Uh, no? At least, I don't think we've ever met before now. I'm still pretty new." He straightened up, coughing into his hand because yes wow he was totally a professional here and he had not just been gawking at the minipet. "Finn Connor reporting for duty. I guess. I've never actually dealt with these things before. Trynt says they're made of Fear?" He asked, getting closer to where the small creature was contained. What the hell was scary about this thing? It was the coolest thing ever!

Belts were just an upgrade from streamers. Fancy streamers. But it's ok Finn, Jake's not judging. Too much. (It probably didn't help that he was wearing a belt too, but hey, it was only one and around his waist).
He only arched an eyebrow as the hunter introduced himself. ... Trynt? "Uh... yah, they're made of FEAR or something, kinda like a mini version of those Halloween students." He probably should have added a lot less intelligent and more stupid-looking as the minipet continued making weird faces at the both of them.
"... I don't think I've met you before either, but then, how did you know my name?"
Had he been paying attention, he probably would have pieced it together, but instead, he was having a stare down with his namesake.

"I've never seen a Halloween student." He admitted with a small shrug. Well at least, not to his own knowledge? Of course, they were in the tear as well but even then he wouldn't have known the difference between them and his fellow hunters. "What are they like? I heard a lot of them just look human. The reapers, at least." Trynt was somewhat knowledgeable on the subject, but Finn would have rather hear it from another source as well. Not that he didn't trust his own weapon or anything... Finn couldn't help but laugh every time the Jake dog look a like made another face at them. "That is incredible, it really is. You recognize this, right? Tell me you've seen Adventure Ti---" He started, obviously completely enthralled with the minipet, before Jake questioned him about knowing his name. "Uh, I don't?" He straightened up again to look at him, one eyebrow raised. giving the other man a confused look. "You never said it."

Jake only shrugged. "You're not missing much. They usually have some extra appendages or weird skin colour to help you distinguish. Most of them kind of look like animal people, with the ears and tails." He definitely wasn't thinking of a certain black dog. "The reapers are a bit trickier, but you can usually tell by the weapon, or lack of. If the weapons don't have runes, they're not a hunter." Of course, there was also attire, but he wouldn't put it past them to mimic their costs and scarves, or sashes. Though, he was pretty sure they couldn't use runics. At least he hoped not.
... wait. Recognize what? He turned around to stare at the minipet for a good while, before realization settled in, and he groaned, dragging a palm down his face.
"Ugh, don't tell me this thing is named Jake."

Finn's lip pulled back from his teeth a little at the thought. Extra appendages? Disgusting. Probably tentacles like whatever that thing was out in the ocean waving it's damn appendages about. Animal people? Sounded like some king of Japanese anime, and more fluffy then scary. Like this little Jake creature he couldn't take his eyes off of for more then five seconds at a time. "Sounds like helpful advice, thanks." Finn responded. "And while most of them appear human in some way, they can also have another form, I hear? And the Reapers have animals...familiars. Are those the same as this guy?" He pointed to the little Jake with his spiky little body and his adorable giant eyes and..... What? Finn blinked and straightened up from where he was bent over, inspecting the small creature from a closer range. "Oh hey, is your name Jake too?" He smiled, the warmth of it not reaching his eyes in the slightest. It was nothing personal, it was just the way Finn always smiled. "I take it you've never watched Adventure Time."

Very disgusting. The animal people were pretty annoying too.
"Yah, they have animal forms. They're usually a lot larger than the actual animals and a different colour. It's not hard to tell when you see one. And, I suppose so..."
He probably should have been paying more attention to the students, but he had been too busy fighting to pay attention to minute details. Instead, he only stared at the other hunter as he seemed to be "inspecting" the minipet, slightly unnerved by his smile.
"Um, yes. Jake Cross, Death Division."
Adventure what now?
"...No." ... who names a dog JAKE?
