The billowing edges of summer kept the eve from being too crisp. The multi-layered uniform was less a burden, slightly more a blessing, as about as close to a happy median as the brunette was used to experiencing as of late.

Unlike her blonde patrol partner for the night, Metis was not the sort to rip apart her magical attire just for. Well. If she'd ever bothered to think about it, ripping off bows didn't exactly compare to adjusting the amount of layers and cloth over one's body in the middle of a heat wave....

No, tonight was downright comfortable. After placing the quick call to Ellie and arranging a place for them to meet up and begin their patrol, Lilith had donned the senshi mantel and held little hesitance as she moved across the low rooftops. Energy waves flowed in and out of her vision range, allowing her easy view of the area just around her. All she needed to move around.

Unfortunately, didn't help much when unaware of what lay just outside her hundred yard field of vision. Perched for a moment just beyond the ledge of a building top, she cocked her head this way and that, turning her field of vision side to side slowly. All to pinpoint the way she was to take to get to Ellie--or Iris, if she'd already transformed. The addition of copper--human--energy waves beyond her own didn't alarm her each time they filtered into her vision. Why fear signs of people in a city? She did jump a bit when she heard the heavy metal doors of a dumpster slam shut down in the alley not too far below, though it was mostly hidden without much living energy near by to outline the alley--or the dumpster's--for her sight. Hmph.... maybe the Crystal High girl would never fully get over her unease around the idea of rats lurking in a dark alley way...

Even during the school year, Sessrumnir made sure to take the time to do at least a quick patrol around the city, or at least around whatever bar he was going to or leaving from. There were many things that had changed over the past few weeks, including the severity of how some people used this war to do horrible things, but that meant now, more than ever, there were people needed to keep that kind of evil at bay.

Senseless killing and death wasn’t what he signed up for when he left the Navy, but something he’d found himself stuck with, regardless. It was something he thought of as a casual amusement, or a way to pass the time… Until he learned how closely involved some of his family was, and the bonds he’d built with others.

Almost lost to his thought, Sessrumnir was taken by surprise when what felt like a senshi power up almost alarmingly close by, and he wondered if they even took a moment to make sure no one was around them before just… turning magical.

He paused at the edge of a low building, before dropping down into the alley below, curious to see who this person was who so nonchalantly powered up in what he’d consider a more populated area.

Had she any concept of how close she'd been to any other when taking out her henshin pen--even if she'd done so only a distance and a meandering walk away from her apartment--she might have reconsidered. Picked another location to meet Iris. Or, better yet, have waited to transform once assured she had friendly company.

As it was, she held no thought to her aura that night. Or any night, as it was. Wandering as Metis usually was done with company. Why stress herself over the moments before or after the joint patrols? Or a fact she couldn't even help.

No, Metis' only thought as she stood atop the roof, taking in the bouncing waves from living bodies in the area, was of the simple pleasure of the experience. Copper waves flowed from her own body, from those on the streets here and there. A few yellow waves here and there signified animals nearby. It wasn't a mass amount of energies, but enough for her to feel comfortable even jumping across rooftops. Any fewer though, and she'd have to move back down to sturdy, no-gaps ground.

One copper aura was no different than another in her magical vision. Scanning the waves in her head, her body stiffening was the result of a sensation that sparked through. Independent of the waves, yet connected, she assumed. Her fists balled, head turning slightly as she scanned the waves with purpose. She felt... someone near by. A power signature she didn't recognize, but one nonetheless. Wasn't a senshi...

In her experience, what wasn't a senshi wasn't a friend of hers.

In later retrospect, she really should have thought about that philosophy a moment or two longer.

A figure down below in the alley caught her attention, turning her head just enough to confirm it was someone standing there. No, not a senshi. A cold pit formed in her stomach. A... Negaverse agent? She knew of nothing else with a power signature, though this one didn't rub her the same way as others had.

Only so many details were shown by the figure's energy, but she couldn't risk a chance at getting closer... and for her fears to be confirmed. What wasn't a senshi, wasn't a friend. It was this knowledge that brought her hand to the gem in her tiara, trying to keep her back to the figure below as much as possible without totally losing track of them.

"Mind's Eye Vision..." Her words were barely more than a hiss as the white energy collected at her forehead, condensed in her palm. Turning swiftly, she jumped from the ledge, heading down into the alley itself. Mid-fall, she flung the orb with all her strength, hoping her antics would catch the must-be-Nega off guard. And not just let them jump out of the way of her blasted attack.

If she was going to give Iris another call, this time for backup, she would at least like to do so without having to inform her captain she required assistance against a blasted agent because she'd mucked up her timing.

Perhaps the other would realize his intention of meeting somewhere less conspicuous than low rooftops, still in danger of being spotted by civilians — at least that was what Sessrumnir had wondered when he settled in the shadows of the alley, away from the prying eyes of civilians.

He waited as he felt the aura seem to pause and then turn towards the alley, a dark figure dropping down from above. Maybe it was from being caught off guard, but his reaction to the strange orb she seemed to be holding was… well, too slow. And by the time he realized this senshi had thrown an attack at him, it was too late.

Sessrumnir held up his arms with the intention of shielding himself, but the orb still managed to hit him… and seemed to absorb into him??

The effect was immediate. Flashes of color, places, and faces he thought he recognized, but… older? Or maybe it was just an illusion to make him think that. The knight stumbled backwards against the wall of the alley, shaking his head to try and rid his thoughts of things that shouldn’t be.

“What the hell did you do??” he hissed, rubbing at his eyes as if that would help, but the visions remained in his head.

If anyone asked her, Metis would likely be the first to admit a little part of her was... curious what her new attack did. She'd yet to really encounter a match since becoming a Super Senshi that required her new magic, but against a human opponent... not only was it needed, it was a good chance to do a test.

Though if all else failed, she supposed she could always ask Iris to answer her questions on it...

A bit of grim satisfaction came to see her strike hit, having noted the figure had raised a limb to block it. The white energy had vanished. But then there was stumbling, and the voice that passed through the air alerted her of not only her success, but their gender. Male. Her smile was almost bitter. "Simply used a preemptive strike against someone who deems it proper to lurk in an alley near a lady." Her boots clicked faintly against the broken pavement of the alley as she drew a few steps closer. "What do you see?" Her question was genuine, though she wasn't expecting an actual answer. Not from a Nega, oh hardly.

Her body was tense, waiting for a return attack. It would take some time for her magic to replenish itself. Just have to go back to what Iris had been training her. As she stood just that much closer now that they were on even ground, Metis' brow wrinkled a little, head turning slightly as she examined the bits of further detail shown to her by the auras. She still wasn't getting the typical Negaverse vibe from the guy, but... what else could he be? Frustration made her scowl. "Who are you?" There was no regret for how sharp her voice was on the question, still ready--and expecting--a fight.

He didn’t like her tone of voice. The way she spoke, as if she said what she did because he happened to be a man. And as the strange visions began to clear up, he pulled his weapon out of subspace, not wanting to risk her attacking again without being armed, first.

“Wow, so you’re profiling by gender. I guess that makes you sexist,” he offered his own assumption of her. Why else would she bother mentioning the fact that she was a woman and he was in an alley?

Sessrumnir scowled at her questions, not sure what he attack did to him, but he wasn’t exactly happy about what he saw. “My parents,” he began, holding the glass by his side as he looked her over. “Older… standing by my brothers’ graves.” It unsettled him — was this a vision of the future, or just some stupid senshi’s power? They had the ability of creating illusions, after all… he would know, since he could do the same.

“Who am I? Not telling you,” he let out a small noise that sounded like a cross between a release of breath and a laugh. “Tell me who you are and what you did to me, first, then maybe I’ll grace your highness with my name.”

Hey, if she could pick and choose who she attacked, and who she was going to be friendly to, then he could show her that same courtesy.

One moment there was nothing, least not that she could see. The next, the man was holding... something. She could only make out the object by how the waves of his energy bounced off of it, outlining it for her to see. Had he had it behind his back..? Whatever it was, she couldn't make it out clearly from where she stood. A device or... a weapon..? Metis didn't trust it, regardless.

Despite herself, she laughed. Laughed. Only a few short giggles, ones she tried to smother with her hand, but there they were. Profiling by gender? Oh hardly. "The toughest fighter I know is female, and one of the best cooks I've encountered is male, so you can cease the profiling and sexist claims now." Straightening a little, she shrugged. "As it is... I didn't know what gender you were until you spoke. Or at least I assumed by the depth of your tone you were male," she added, realizing how off her assumption could have been. But he'd just confirmed it regardless.

Her statement was a blanket one. If he'd been female, she would have considered the other girl a no-class brat, skulking around in the alleyways. Not her fault he didn't read it that way.

The fact he actually answered her though... confused her. For a multitude of reasons. Not only the fact he said something--though she supposed it could have been a lie, she wasn't sure why he'd lie about that--but... the content. It was impossible for her to hide the cringe at hearing he'd seen his parents at his brothers' graves. A family. But that he'd seen... something like that... His parents were older? Now what exactly... "I thought it would just blind you," Metis murmured, more to herself than intending it for his ears. Louder, she said, "I hope for your parents' sake it was nothing more than an illusion." Distrust for the man had her voice maintain a harsh snap. As if by some reason it was his fault the visions appeared to him.

Truth be told, Metis had no idea what it was.

Her eyes rolled. No you first. Really? Some man. She'd gotten more than enough snide remarks in her time at Crystal to ignore the highness aspect of his words. Even if the general theme of things still annoyed her. "I already told you what I did. Used a preemptive strike. You're not bleeding, are you? Bruised? Hanging off the edge of a roof? Knife to your throat? Hand through your chest?" Metis' voice was a snarl, one she hardly recognized at her own voice for a moment before drawing herself back with a huff. Hands balled at her sides, body still prepped for a fight. Her pose was defensive. Waiting for retaliation. "I only mean to disorientate until I can determine if someone is a threat or not."

She saw no harm in being honest in her motives. Be the better person, if you would. To continue that, she nodded her head vaguely in his direction. Or so he might assume, as her eyes were unfocused on him even as her head faced his direction. "Metis. Senshi of the Third Eye. Does that answer your questions, sir?"

Sessrumnir sneered, unimpressed as she laughed, his already poor opinion of her dropping further as she clearly thought his assumption humerous.

“Well… my sex is male,” he agreed with another sneer in her direction, one that could be easily heard in his voice. If she wanted to play that game, then she was welcome to it, but he wasn’t going to make it any easier for her.

“You thought it would blind me??” he nearly sputtered in disgust, trying to figure out why the hell she would want to blind someone on her own side. “Why the hell were you trying to blind me??” he all but demanded, holding tightly to the chain of his storm glass. If he wasn’t so confused as to her intentions, he might have just left already. Turned around and walked away to leave this girl on her own.

“Yeah yeah, I get you trying to disorient me, I get it, but why the hell would you assume I’m a threat? I wasn’t even armed!” he hissed, before laughing as she had when she called him sir. “Sessrumnir,” he responded, although not nearly satisfied enough with her answers.

"And your hobby is sass, apparently," she commented with a roll of her eyes. Somehow, she wasn't getting the vibe she'd offended him by mixing up gender and sex, and felt little need to apologize for her mistake. This was a meaningless circle. Everything about this was. So she attacked him first, big deal? Becoming the aggressor before another could beat you to the punch, that seemed to be the growing name of the game in this war. A concept she was still trying to adjust to, but making progress.

His response to the concept of being blind made her bristle, but her smile was cynical as she gave a dry laugh. "The concept so appalling? It wouldn't have been permanent. In fact," she began, glaring anew in his direction. "My magic last less than a fraction of the time a bruise can hang around, or any other injury. Why not use it in favor of more physical means?" That had been the point. Disorientate, distract, just long enough to figure out why the copper figure with the strange aura was there. Figure out what sort of threat they were. Still, she gave a faintly apologetic shrug. "I assume my magic remained the same since I ranked up. It didn't seem to change drastically for anyone else."

His question made her scowl. He already knew why she was trying to disorientate him--blind him for a moment--but for a moment... she wasn't sure how to respond. At least she had his name... but that did nothing to clarify anything. Instead, her brow creased as she slowly tilted her head. Sessrumnir..? That... did not sound like a mineral name. "You're not a senshi." For a moment, it was all she said, as if that should be all the answer he needed. But her mind was whirling. That really did not sound like a mineral name. Her frown deepened. "Your energy signature isn't a senshi's. You're certainly not a guardian cat." Even if he was one in humanoid form, she'd be seeing yellow. Not copper. "If you're not on our side, then why wouldn't I assume you're with the Negaverse?" In her mind, her experiences, the logic made sense. She'd never experienced a signature like his before, or at least not up close. Senshi, guardians, Negaverse agents. And strange cosmic powers that could bring people into space. That was the extent of her experiences.
