Miela wakes with a sneeze, lying on the floor, covered in dust. She lifts her head and looks around, trying to remember how she got here. Her eyes land on her overturned basket, and she pops up to retrieve it. "Hey!" she exclaims, as if someone had done this on purpose. She grabs the mostly-undamaged basket and begins to regather her cuttings. She'd worked hard for those, and for her they represented a future in her new home. An occupation, a way to be useful. Satisfied that she'd recovered her treasures, she surveys her surroundings.

She's alone, or at least, she doesn't see anyone else. It's dark, so she can't see much, but she can make out the outlines of things in the room, especially as her eyes adjust to the dimness. It smells earthy in here, and gives her the feeling that she's underground. It would be comforting if it weren't so...unsettling. As she begins to explore the room, she starts to get the feeling she isn't alone. She draws her arms closer to her body, clinging to her basket tightly. "Hello?" she calls softly. "Is anyone there?"

How did she get down here? She can't remember a thing. The last thing she recalls is gathering these cuttings with the fairies. She wonders where the rest of the hiking party had gone, if they might be nearby, and what had happened to bring her all the way down here. She wonders what this place is. While it didn't give her the same sense of general creepiness as the Faerie ruins had, it's still sort of an eerie quiet. Especially since she still senses she isn't alone. "Hello?" she calls again.

Pelagious peeked out from behind the giant thingy in the back of the rooom. Since it was so dark, he couldn't really tell what it was. Just that it was large and cold and smooth like metal with designs all over it. He was using it as a sheild.

"Ummm, Hello?" he answered, somewhat terrified of such a large dark room.

He couldn't really see her. And he was assuming it was a her based on her voice. It could have been a really effiminate male. Like himself. Who was just hanging out in a dark, spooky room that had magically appeared out of nowhere. Thank god he had his pack. He had woken up with the pack still attached to his shoulders. So if this mysterious voice attacked him, he could swing his backpack at her. Whereever this "her" was.

As Miela's eyes adjust to the light she can start making out outlines of things in the room. She's drawn to the middle of the room, trying to figure out what the large circular structure is for.

She'd nearly decided she was alone when she hears a voice call back, and she almost jumps out of her skin. Pressing a hand to her chest, she takes a few deep breaths before responding. "Are you part of the hiking group?" she asks hopefully. She doesn't want to think about what it would mean if the answer were "no".

"It's so dark in here," she says, squinting to try and make out a moving figure. "D'you have a lantern or something?" She knows she has one in her backpack, but she hasn't found that yet.

Pelagious didn't startle when she spoke. In fact, he was trying to figure out where she wa by the sound of her voice. When she asked about the hiking trip, h almost breathed a sigh of relief. Almost. She could still be a monster asking questions to lead him to a false sense of security and then eat him. So he ignored that question. And answdred her next one instead.

"Lantern? Where would I have found that? " h was confused. He couldn't see any more than than 'she' could. How was he supposed to find a lantern? Didn't she think that if he had found one, he wouldn't be hiding behind the giant metal thingy?? He asked her as much, incredulous tones abound in his voice.

He had ,of course, had forgotten that there should be one in his pack.

Miela pulls sort of a face. Either he's a hiker who hadn't bothered to look in his backpack, or he's not a hiker...and doing a poor job hiding it. She starts to walk toward his voice. There's strength in numbers, and the voice didn't seem unfriendly, at least, so even if he wasn't a hiker, perhaps together they'd make it out of here. She wishes she could find her own backpack. She knows there's a lantern in there.

"I'm Miela," she says, feeling out the ground with her hooves. It feels like stone, or compacted dirt. So far she hadn't found any roots or anything, just a smooth surface. She keeps feeling her way toward where she knows his voice had come from.

Pelagious racked his brain for any creatures happened to be mentioned by the little fairies. All he could brin up in his mind was measurements. It seeme he hadn't payed as much attention to his urrounings as he thought
Especially since this miela was coming closer by the sound of her feet.

Paniced, he did the stupidest thing he could think off. He wrenched backpack off his back and threw it in her general direction. "I'M NOT EDIBLE!!" he screamed in a tone more girly than hers. If she listened closely, she might even have heard a trickle of noise as he wet himself in fear.

"Uf!" cries Miela as the backpack hits her in the stomach, knocking her off-balance and down to the floor. She twists mid-fall to avoid crushing her basket, though it topples its contents again. What in the world had he hit her with? And what was it he'd said? He's not...edible? Oh for the love of the good green earth... "I'm a vegetarian, you dunce!" she snaps irritatedly. Clearly this character would be no help to her at all. She feels around to gather her cuttings again. At this rate it'd be a miracle if they survived all the way back home.

She pushes the projectile off of her, but hears a metallic clank. What was this? It hadn't felt like metal. She investigates it, feeling all over it. It felt like canvas, and lumpy, like there was something inside it. Wait a minute...had he thrown his backpack at her? "Did you throw your backpack at me?" she asks incredulously, opening it and digging for the lantern she knows must be in there. Finding it, she lights it and holds it aloft as she stands.

Not seeing any immediate signs of her "attacker", she decides to explore the room a little. It's a lot larger than she'd originally thought, with much higher ceilings. She'd fallen near the center of the room, and she sees an interesting structure. As she draws closer to it, she recognizes it. "This is a sundial!" she exclaims, looking around. "That means there must be..." She looks up. Logically there had to be overhead access to the sun for a sundial to work, but there's only a smooth, domed ceiling. How odd. She glances around the room again, noting the dirt piled beneath broken windows. "We must be underground," she says. She wonders what had happened here.

Pelagious was more than a little embarrassed at his rash actions. It wasn't until she hit the "lights" so to speak, that he realized she wasn't a monster. She was one of those...faunie things that had come to the island a while back.

Well, then. That cleared things up. Since she wasn't going to eat him, she couldn't be all that bad.

She seemed suprised by the stupidity of his actions. He wasn't. He found himself doing stupid things all the time. So her questions and amazement were nothing new. Peeking around the giant throne, he glanced around in every general direction before locking onto his partner in trapped-dirt-hole-space. She didn't seem to dangerous. In fact, considering that she had known what was in his pack, she might actually be his new savior.

"What's that?" he asked, suddenly curious about the big spoke sticking up from the ground that she called a 'sundial'. "A broken wheel?" It sure looked like a broken wheel to him. "Maybe it came in through there?" he asked, pointing from around the arm of the throne and at the broken doors leading to goddess knew where.

I just said what it was, thinks Miela irritatedly. "It's a sundial," she repeats. "It isn't a wheel at all. It's a device that uses the sun to tell the time," she says. She looks around again. "Except, we must be underground since there's no way for the sun to get to it." She shrugs a little.

The glint of her lantern in the direction the still-hidden blue arm had pointed directs her attention to the golden doors. "Hey, my backpack!" she exclaims, noticing it hanging from the handle. She scoots over to it and is about to take it off when the door creaks ominously. This prompts her to step back and have a closer look at the door. "This door's broken..." she says. "I think it might fall over if I take the backpack off of it. I dunno which way it'd fall, but it's certainly heavy enough to squish me if I'm in the way..." She makes a face and decides to leave it, for now.

"Would you come out from behind there?' she says impatiently. "Help me find something useful in here." The room is huge, and could be hiding any number of useful things, or secrets, or dangers. But, she decides, she came on this trip for adventure and exploration! This is sort of exciting!

Miela continues to explore the huge throne room, though instincts tell her that they ought to find a way out soon. Since they're underground, it's important that they find a place where air is coming in.

She holds up the lantern to the wall-sized murals, wondering at their magnificence. She can't help but smile at the one depicting the harvest. It's a familiar scene to her. She'd never seen any of the winged beings pictured in the mural, but she'd heard of them from the fauns who lived in Laisidhiel. Perhaps this used to be their home. She looks around again. Judging by the large throne...perhaps it belonged to their Queen. It resembled the one Princess Celestia used to sit upon, back in...

She shakes her head and looks back at the mural. As she turns, her hoof hits something she could swear hadn't been there before. A dusty wicker basket, similar to the one in her arms. Curious, she gently nudges the top off with her hoof. Inside are...roots! Strangely preserved, considering the decay obvious in the rest of the room. Perhaps the basket was enchanted. She picks up the whole basket and tucks it into her elbow, next to her basket of cuttings. "I found some roots," she calls to her as-of-yet-invisible companion. She pulls a root out of the basket and sniffs at it. It smells earthy and good. Deciding to take a chance, she bites into it. "They're a little bitter," she adds, "But they're good and starchy. This basket should keep us fed for at least a few days."

Munching on her mouthful of root, she decides to investigate the golden doors again, to try and figure out how to get her pack off the handle without getting squished. "Now it's only held on by this one hinge...here." She holds the lantern up to the bottom-most hinge. "Logically, if I move the pack...it should.....swing...that way, away from me," she mutters to herself. "So if I remove weight here..." She braces herself and grabs the backpack, pulling it off the handle in one motion.

The door creaks and groans and then...swings swiftly away from the room they're in, into the room beyond, where it crashes into a wall and then to the floor as the one hinge holding it up gives out and breaks. Holding a hand to her heart, Miela stares wide-eyed at the scene she'd made. "Well...I was right about it swinging out," she says, her heart still beating a thousand times a minute.

After the dust clears, she peers into the next room. If it's anything like Princess Celestia's castle was, this should be like an antechamber, where people waited for an audience with royalty. Whatever it was, if she's going to find a way out, it'd have to be this way. It's the only exit from the throne room.

The door that Miela dislodged, which had been stuck in that position, hanging on one hinge for centuries hit the floor, then slid down a grand partial-spiral staircase slamming to marble flooring, sending a crack across the foyer.

The foyer was grand, and mostly preserved -- well, up until now. In the center of the room was a large statue of two female faerie pae'il, back-to-back, dancing and connected by a single cloth. Above their heads, the moon and sun entwined. At their feet was a barren land scape below one of the females and a lush landscape below the other. The faerie pae'il are suspended above the land depictions, slowly spinning, still after thousands of years.

A set of lavish staircase wrapped around each side of the faerie statue. The railings were made of wood, adorned with gold. The stairs were made of marble with gold vein. On the walls were very large paintings of female faeries in extravagant costumes. The paintings lined the room.

On each side of the room, tucked under the wall with the paintings are two small doorways. One of them is locked, but the other is not.

In front of the grand staircase is another large entry way. The doors are intact; large, made of wood but with many golden accents and adornments. These doors are locked from the inside with a heavy, thick wooden board.

This room appears to have escaped the touch of time, as it is still clean and there are very few signs of decay.

Miela winces as the heavy door crashes and slams its way down the grand staircase. She feels as if she's disturbed some ancient peace or something. "Oops," she says quietly to herself.

Immediately she notices the large set of doors, barred from this side. It looks almost like an exit! She starts to go toward them, but gets distracted. Everything is so extravagant, so exquisite. She'd never met any of these winged beings before, but she finds herself more and more mesmerized by their beauty and grace. She starts down the staircase, her gaze fixed on the statues. They seemed to mirror the murals in the throne room she'd just left. Sort of a harvest season/barren season motif here. It makes sense to Miela, to devote this sort of attention to the seasons. After all, continued life depends on the bounty of the harvest.

When she reaches the bottom and stands still at the base of the statues, she realizes they'd been spinning slowly this whole time. Curious, she walks in a circle around them, wondering how they stay suspended in the air. Her eyes flick around the room, unable to stay focused on one beautiful thing for long before something else catches her eye. She finds herself practically reeling with it all.

As she marvels at the paintings, her eyes land on a small door. She wonders where it leads to, and walks over to it, her hoofsteps echoing through the chamber. She tries the door. Locked. "Haystacks," she grumbles. Well, it isn't like this place is meant for her. In fact, it looks as if someone had been maintaining it. She glances toward the door to the throne room. "But why not maintain up there as well?" she wonders aloud. She looks at the spinning statues again. Perhaps there's some sort of magic at work here. Beyond the statues, she sees another door, almost identical to this one. "Ooh!" she exclaims, almost skittering over to it. She expects it to be locked as well, but when she tries it, it clicks open.

She jerks her hand back from the handle. Should she go in? She looks toward the "exit" doors. Surely she should be concentrating on getting back home, but....Miela looks back toward the open door before her. "An open door would tempt a saint," she says, gnawing on her bottom lip. Finally, she makes a decision. But if she was going to go exploring, she'd need to condense her load first. Two backpacks and two baskets and a lantern is a little much. She walks back toward the staircase and puts her erstwhile companion's down at the base of it. If he decided to follow her, he'd find it here. She takes her own lantern out of her backpack, lights it, then puts out the lantern she'd been using, setting it down next to the backpack. No use leaving him in the dark, especially as frightened as he'd seemed. Next she empties about half of the roots into her backpack, and leaves the rest next to the backpack as well, including the basket. She puts her backpack on, tucks her basket of cuttings on her arm again, and picks her lantern back up. There, that's better.

With a mixture of anxiety and excitement, she goes through the small unlocked door.

When Miela opened the door, a breeze followed her, bringing with it the golden light of past visions before she would even have a change to let her eyes adjust to the dark. The vision showed a somewhat small room lined with tall candles, which was the sole light source. There are 3 pews on each side of the room, and an aisle with a white and gold carpet leading up to a shrine. The shrine contained a large glass ball on a small golden stand. Incense burned on one side, and there was a large, but shallow bowl full of water on the other side. Behind the shrine is what appears to be a normal Fae staff, standing upright. The glass ball contained in the staff matched the larger one on the table. On the wall behind, encircling the staff were the 12 symbols of the Guardians.

On one wall were 3 tall stained-glass windows. Each window depicting a piece of Fae history, including a rather odd depiction of the Guardians, a funeral procession, and two decorated female fae lying 180 degrees from each other on a flat rock, with wailing Fae at their feet.

In the pews, were about four scattered Pae, and they appeared to be praying vehemently to the Guardians which caused the symbols on the wall to light up and glow like neon. Then the globe in the staff began to glow, followed by the large globe on the table.

All at once, the four Fae were startled by something and looked to the door behind them with fear in their eyes.

If Meila turns to look, she will see the door burst open, and a bright flash from behind her will end the vision.

Meila had stumbled upon the small chapel in the Fae castle.

After the vision is gone, the room is pitch dark, but on the threshold of the entryway she'd find a large, crimson coin.

User Image

If Miela chooses to explore the broken chapel, she will find that the stained-glass windows all broke, allowing dirt to flow in, nearly filling the whole room. The ends of the pews on the right are barely visible. The candles have been tipped over or broken and covered in centuries of dust and cobwebs. Thin vines and nocturnal plants have been growing from the dirt, helping to fill the room. If she can make it to the back of the room, she'll find the staff and crystal ball intact. On the wall, it appears that the symbols for the Guardians have been smeared over with blood, or a similar dark substance.

The escape route from this part of the castle is through the other locked door. This door leads to an empty room with bookshelves lining the walls. All the books have fallen from the shelves except one. This is the level to open a secret passage that leads to a tunnel that will eventually end with a steep, stone staircase leading up to the edge of the Fae Clearing. The opening will be covered with jungle vegetation, so it may be difficult -- but not impossible -- to cut through it. If Pelagios becomes active again, he must find this exit as well, to escape.

((Congrats to Miela, she won a Demon Coin. The purpose of the coin will be revealed in our wrap-up. DaemonGabrielle, this RP is considered canon so Pelagios will have to have found the escape route as part of his backstory when you return to RP.

The locked door is locked with a brittle mechanism, so it will break easily. Or there may be a key hidden somewhere in that room.

All magic restrictions on powers and abilities have been lifted. Any items not nailed down or part of the scenery can be taken home. Some of the items (the staff and crystal ball) can be taken to more knowledgeable Pae for more information. ))

Miela reels from the vision. Once her sight returns to normal, she frantically looks around the room. "Wh-what happened?" she asks aloud, in a soft voice. Everything had been radiant just a moment ago. There had been others here, praying. She whirls around. Where had they gone so suddenly? And this room...it had decayed so much in the last few seconds...and what had that bright light been?

She starts toward the altar, picking her way carefully around overturned pews and piles of dirt. The only light source in the room, her lantern makes long shadows on the walls as it flickers. She notices some vines have grown in through the shattered windows. Some of them have pale white flowers growing on them. Fascinated how these blooms could thrive in darkness, she takes a cutting and puts it in her basket with the rest she'd collected. Curious whether the glass ball and staff were still intact, she keeps stepping carefully until she makes it to the back of the room.

She's surprised to find them unbroken, just where she'd last seen them. Covered in dust and cobwebs, but unbroken. She hesitates to touch them. They gave her the same eerie feeling the circlet had earlier in her adventure. Briefly she wonders if the two were connected, but the symbols around the staff on the back wall distract her. Something had been smeared over them. It was dark red, almost brown. It had a metallic smell to it, but maybe that was just all the dirt in the room. But still, she couldn't help but think that it's...blood. Miela shivers.

Something terrible must have happened here.

Mustering her courage, she decides to take the unbroken staff and glass ball. She'd find someone who knew what they were. She needs to know what happened to the praying Pae'il she'd seen, and why this chapel, once resplendent, had fallen into ruin and out of memory. This story deserved a happier ending than fading, forgotten. Taking the ball first, she opens her knapsack and nestles it inside, taking care to cradle it carefully with the other contents inside. She closes it and then puts it back on her back, cinching the straps tightly against her body. Then she takes the staff and puts it between the backpack and her back, wiggling a little to make sure it's secure. It still gives her the creeps, but she's determined now.

Time to get out of here. That big door in the room she'd come from had looked like a big entryway. She'd try that first.

As Miela exits the room, her hoof hits something and sends it sliding across the smooth floor. "Hey!" she exclaims, as she sees the brief flash of crimson before it disappears under the locked door. She frowns, looking down at her feet. She's sure that hadn't been there when she'd entered the room...

Glancing longingly at what she believes to be the exit door, Miela gives in to curiosity once again and goes to the locked door. She tries the doorknob again--perhaps since the crimson thingy had appeared after she went into the chapel, other things had changed as well. Unfortunately, it's still locked. Hmph. "No fair," she mumbles, scowling at it.

She looks back and forth between this door and the large doors that must lead out of here. She could leave this place, forget about the little thing...it was probably just a bug or something anyway.

Yeah, no, that wasn't happening. Carefully setting down her basket and lantern, she gives the door a little nudge with her hoof. After all these years...surely the lock couldn't hold against a body check. She backs up a few steps, and then rams into the door with one shoulder.

The door bursts open, and Miela just barely recovers in time before she goes sprawling on the floor. But she had kicked the crimson thingy again, and she sees it skittering away in the dim light. "Wait, come back!" she exclaims. Hurrying to pick up her basket and lantern again, Miela goes after the crimson thingy. It'd come to a halt in the middle of a mostly-empty room. She bends and picks it up. "It looks like a....coin?" She wonders if this were some kind of ancient currency. Maybe it was related to all of this. Not wanting to dislodge the staff, she puts the coin in her basket with the cuttings.
