The woman swung out wide with a single arm, leapt forward, and struck the dummy hard in the torso. An audible grunt escaped her, the woman's breaths sharp and every bit as precise as her moves. She let the weapon remain for a moment, eyes averted just below its position, before a jerk of her arm brought the sickle back to her side.

"Again." She murmured, wiping the steady build up of sweat from her forehead, before resuming her strikes.

She let the curved end of a single blade graze the dummy before stalling. You're right. These guys aren't doing it for me.

<... Yeah?>

Maybe we should stop...

And find someone to actually spar with...

<...>

I really need this, Blythe. I've got to do something or I'll go mad.

While there came no response from the zombie in her head, there was also no tension to be felt. For that, Minnie was thankful.

She understood.

Taking in a deep breath, Minerva turned over a shoulder and looked past her curls to the rest of the training field. There had to be someone...

Seussi
This took far too long. ;; My apologies! I left it open for your boy to either approach Minnie, or to just be out there and Minerva could approach him instead! >3< Hope this is alright! Haven't sparred in a while so I might be rustykthnx.

Sweat was dripping down the moon hunters forehead as he stood, breathing heavily, in front of his own practice dummy that he had been swinging away at with his weapon. Trynt had only been mildly encouraging during their practice, mostly condescending and snarly as he attacked with the pointy end again and again.

< Learn to utilize both ends of me. I am just as sharp on the tail. > The wyvern growled as Finn stopped to take a short break, shaking his head to let the droplets of perspiration fly and his nearly shoulder length hair, which had been perfectly styled just that morning, flop listlessly around his ears.

Ya ya ya... Was Finn's only thought out reply as he reached up to wipe away what was left of the sweat with the back of a sleeve that reached to his elbows, his jacket tied around his waist as it was often as of late, mostly because it was just too bleeding hot to wear it properly, his light purple scarf shoved through belt loops.

You know what I need? An actual, moving opponent. The moon trainee thought to his weapon as he stood up a little straighter, picking his weapon up from where it lay leaned against him. He'd been spending so much time sparring lately, but it was difficult considering he was meant to be defensive and all he could really defend was himself. He would have to look into a two on two sometime, perhaps, to practice taking care of others as well.

Thoughts for the future. Right now he had a glance around to see if there was any potential spar mates nearby. Spotting another that actually wasn't too far away on the training field, close enough that he was surprised he hadn't noticed her before, he held up his hand towards her and made a gesture with his hand to bid her over. After all, she had been looking his way. Maybe she was in a similar situation as himself.

No worries! I haven't done much hunter side sparring myself so I'm still getting the hang of it~ <3

And in the same situation she most certainly was.

Minerva's eyes narrowed briefly as they caught the man mid-wave. She was hesitant to return it, but all the same straightened up and began taking several steps in his direction. She acknowledged him with a flutter of her fingers, forced a tiny smile, and over all did her best to look determined in stride.

The drizzle of sweat, the flush of her cheeks, and the returning furrow of her brow were all helpful aesthetics to solidify the feel. However, the trainee was quickly succumbing to the rush of anxiety, the sort that made her hands shake and her teeth clatter; lessening her capacity for precision and grace outside of combat considerably, and making her more susceptible to being that clumsy, nervous girl she was socially. Desperately, the woman urged herself not to look over a shoulder, to ensure his gesture had, in fact, been for her, but soon she realized that the act of staring the other trainee down instead had became far too uncomfortable, and before she knew it her eyes focused briefly on the dummy she had long left behind.

Yup. The gesture was for her.

And then, before she could revert her gaze nonchalantly, Minnie was stumbling over her own feet and struggling to keep her frame from toppling over. On the one hand, it looked completely silly and played on her fears, but on the other it hurried the process of meeting the man half way. She let out a nervous giggle, before,

"Watch your step there..." She whispered, somewhat begrudgingly, although not really to the man... nor to herself, for that matter. Her face was enveloped in both the heat and color of her blush, while she slowed carefully to a stop and expelled a sharp breath.

What better way to forget one awkward act, then by initiating another? "Ahh, so, I'm Minerva, hello, and I was just over there swinging away and.. and then I noticed you! And thought maybe you'd like to spar with something other than these dummies for a while. I'm available. For training! For training that is..."

<... You are so awkward. It's positively adorable...>

"We could spar. If you'd be down for that?" Down for that? yeesh.

Or maybe he had just caught her staring at his a**. That was always a possibility, and a great risk when one looked so fine as Mr. Finn Connor. He smirked to himself, watching her almost seem to hesitate, as though he had indeed caught her in the act of staring at him, her tentative wave and what appeared to be a shy smile only furthering his assumptions along.

The flush of her cheeks only made her look embarassed to him, rather then the desired effect of determination she was attempting to present herself with. By the time she arrived, he was leaning forward, rather lazily gripping his weapon that he had stabbed tail end first into the ground, his eyes resting solely on her, and not some phantom woman in the background.

And then, just before arriving, she stumbled. Oh but this was going to be amusing! He only barely caught her whispered words, his smirk widening, letting the comment slide without one of his own smart a** remarks in return. This one seemed....almost fragile in demeanor, maybe a little bit clumsy. Awkward and shy? It was totally the type of woman he might have honed in on at a bar, like a shark targeting it's prey. Here though? Things were different. He might be able to get some good, innocent teasing in, however....

"Finn." He replied, letting his smirk slip into a much more natural smile, a flash of teeth, though combined with the constant coldness of his gaze it was hard to tell how sincere it might be. He listened to the rest of what she had to say with growing amusement. Noticed him? Was available? This situation almost reeked of desperation.

"I couldn't help but notice you too, darling." Of course, he been specifically looking around for somebody he might be able to spar with. His voice had fallen into something smooth, the habit of one used to charming the pants off of others. He stood up a bit straighter, hand sliding down the lance before fingers curled tightly around it and lifted it out of the ground.

"A chance for me to get a little more physical with another person is always more welcome then slashing away at some dummies. I think I would enjoy a spar with you very much."

He gestured for her to get into position with one gloved hand before extending an invitation towards her as well, finishing with. "Would you like to begin?"

It was unfortunate that the woman couldn't pull off anything but desperation. Unfortunate, and sad. And yet, even as she seemed to become more self-aware, biting at her lip while a brow was raised curiously to his manner; Minerva's grip tightened about the handles of her weapon and her eagerness, despite any effort to seem otherwise, only became that much more apparent. She was, in fact, quite desperate and that much couldn't be helped. The heat, the boredom, and even the restlessness of both wielder and weapon… Minerva had every intention to spar.

With this man.

Who seemed familiar, if only by character. While the brilliancy of her embarrassment still resonated off sun-kissed flesh, she seemed to tense up beneath it all intuitively. She was obviously charmed by his approach, and yet not entirely surprised by it. He was definitely the type she had seen before one too many times… in a bar… yes.

"Ahh, Finn." She said, as if the bells of familiarity had indeed rang true. His added monologue was of the flustering sort, but he seemed interested in getting down to business, just as she did. Very well. The trainee shuffled her feet idly, until her own breath of laughter brought her to a standstill. Righting her eyes upon the face of her new opponent, Minerva followed his gesture almost as if by a tethered force and planted her feet firmly against the ground.

"Yes, it'll be good to practice on someone…" Minerva added, her feeble attempt to agree with a statement she read further into than was necessary, and perhaps to fill the silence. Worried it might have come across perversely, however, she continued. "With someone I mean." And then. "Because you move around, unlike the dummies." And when she couldn't take how embarrassing the situation was becoming, the trainee nodded sharply and finished with.

"Yes. I most certainly would." Before racing forward.

Driven by adrenaline, the woman reached out with the butt of a single sickle in an effort to make contact. When she did, a tiny grin formed. She looked up briefly from beneath the curls and let her focus remain on Finn. His move.

The moon trainee found himself letting out a low chuckle, unable to help himself as she continued to give off the air of one who was a combination of flustered and unsure of herself, but perhaps mildly hopeful as well. Hopeful for what, exactly, he wondered? The smirk that was spread across his face could have read in several different ways, but the dark, almost predatory look in his eyes forever remained the same.

"Darling feel free to use me for whatever kind of practice you need. If there are any specific areas you particularly need to work on, my body is yours." There was definitely dual meaning to his words, and for just a second, a glimmer of something very mischievous in his eyes before it was gone, wiped away by intent concentration as their little spar began. He moved his hands so that his weapon was now gripped by both, held up in front of him so that a simple swing from side to side would be most helpful in blocking against some particular attacks against his person.

It wasn't long before she had taken his invitation, coming at him as he attempted to keep an eye on her sickles, the butt of one glancing off of his lance to drive into his shoulder with a solid blow against his shield. Nothing too terribly painful, but enough to get his attention and know that she was serious, and likely not interested in playing games when it came to battle training.

Too bad Finn was always interested in playing games.

Side-stepping away from her, he swung his lance towards her almost lazily, the tip of it's bladed spike catching at nothing but air.

"So, Mineeerva~" He drew her name out with a playful lilt, rolling it across his tongue with a slight purr. "Been on this island long?"

Unable to keep up an air of 'coolness' about her, Minerva merely readjusted her stance, moved to stray clear of his blade at its length, and seemed to be only remotely offended by his own, seemingly unenthusiastic approach to the start of their spar.

The woman had obvious intent. Finn's was only just beginning to blossom before her narrowed, hazel eyes.

Double edged phrases provoked Blythe behind the scenes. Words like venom spewed only to the woman who wielded her, happy distractions that kept Minerva from forcing another awkward reply… but did nothing to keep things from getting awkward on their own.

She found herself still feeling hot, and not in the way Finn would perhaps enjoy... Still, it wasn't the irritation of the matter at hand that had her face flushed, but the hunter himself, and as much as Blythe hated to hear it, to know it first hand even... men often forced Minnie to flounder in her own inexperience. Because there was an intensity about the man before her, and because she lacked the skills of proper social conduct, Minerva couldn't help but feel the force of ineptitude in his presence.

She didn't expect this one to be so… flirtatious? Forward? Confident? He was a step up from the dummies… but was yet to be considered the right step.

"A while." She cleared her throat and replied. Simultaneously she reached out with a blade and swiped, rather early, in his direction. Missing completely.

Was it safe to continue on with a conversation? Uncertain as to where things will go? … at the moment it was better than staring at him in silence.

"And how about yourself?"

The weapon in Finn's hand was brought back to it's defensive position as he awaited a retaliation after his own lazy attempt. In his head, Trynt snarled out reproach, hoping to goad his wielder into more serious action. It might have become obvious that he was holding back as he regarded the woman with his cold and often times calculating gaze, as though trying to dissect her very being with his eyes, to pin down her characteristics and guess at where they might derive. Trynt continued to growl at him that he could do that later, off of the training field Right now he needed to attack, viciously, relentlessly, and take his opponent off guard while he still had the chance to.

He leaned back from the swipe but it was hardly necessary, the premature attack missing him by inches so that the felt nothing but air against him. He gave a lopsided smirk at her response, before retaliating by letting one hand slide down towards the other before swinging out with the lance, aiming to hit her with it's bladed spikes, judging the distance needed to strike her perfectly.

There. You happy now, you overgrown lizard? He shot at his weapon with apparent irritation, before all attention was given back to seemingly flustered woman before him.

"Ah, don't be shy now, darling." He said, though whether he meant in her attacks or in her conversation was anybodies guess. "A while is hardly much for an answer." He let out a light chuckle before answering her about himself.

"Around two months now, myself. Still pretty new to this whole thing." There. He would see if opening up a little about himself might make her a little more willing to do the same.

She hadn’t quite expected to be within reach of his weapon, letting out an audible gasp once contact was made. While her appearance seemed charged with the energy of the startle, and she might have looked to be calculating her next move by hastily readjusting her stance— On the inside, Minerva was rather perplexed, the root of which within a quick exchange of dialogue between woman and Zombie.

Longer than I thought it was…

What? The dummies won’t provide anywhere near this kind of action. He’s bizarre, but it’ll do for now.

Perhaps if we skirt just beyond its reach we’ll be able to outmaneuver him. Gotta get close enough without continuously getting whacked by the damned thing.

Finn’s interruption drew her full attention back to the fight. Blythe let loose a throaty growl, while wisps of green smoke twirled from each of the sickles skull pieces. “I’m not shy.” Was her initial reaction and first response. It wasn't entirely true, but not entirely false either... Brushing the inside of her wrist against her opposite shoulder, the trainee straightened up and continued. “I’m just focused. It’s kind of difficult to carry on a conversation in the middle of a spar, don't you think?”

Whilst she spoke, the woman had begun to walk a circle around Finn, taking advantage of an opening as soon as it was available. Throwing out the curved edge of a blade to land another hit gave her a moments breath of confidence. While the proximity between them was close enough to hear a whisper, she said quickly, “I can safely say it’s been longer than two months for me, but we’re on the same boat. I’m… still getting used to the transition.”

He had begun to watch her more carefully as she circled around him, clearly attempting to keep out of reach. The lance itself was back in a more defensive grip in front of him, hands spread out along it's length. He hoped to be able to continue to use it almost like a staff to block any blows she might send his way, all the while hoping she might just loosen up a bit, relax, maybe give him something to work with. His gaze began to slide a little more obviously over her features, taking in her face, her figure, rating her on an attractability scale all while appearing to just be calculating her movements.

He shrugged his shoulders at her response, offering another wolfish smile towards her. "If it were a life and death situation then sure, I can see you needing to put all of your efforts into concentrating. But this is just spar, sweetheart."

He circled when she did, body turning as he watched her carefully, and just as his stance shifted slightly, she struck, taking him in the shoulder, and he gritted his teeth, attempting to strike back quickly by tilting his lance and sliding the tail end of his weapon down, like a pool cue, attempting to stab her in the foot with it's barbed spikes before she could hop away again.

Longer then two months? His mind wandered back to the woman he had met the day before, Fini. Hadn't she also mentioned being the island for awhile? Was this woman a trainee as well.

If so...how difficult was it to actually get promoted in this place?? He hoped not very, because like hell he wanted to be sitting on the bottom of the totem pole for long while everyone else s**t on him from above.

"It's been challenging," He admitted, while swinging his weapon back into place, "And lonely. Do you get lonely, darling?" Back to playing his odd game again.

Just a spar? “And? If you don’t take these seriously, how will you fair on the field?” The woman seemed rather adamant about her point, and would have pushed further if the stub to her foot didn’t completely throw her off. He leapt away, and all Minerva could do was follow after him, closing the gap with several wide strides.

In an attempt to cleave the other quickly, before he could have time to regain his own footing, Minerva swung as wide as her steps would allow, but overestimated the effort and missed. Completely. Again. Perhaps she’d feel less embarrassed about the whole ordeal if she DID treat this more like a training session rather than real.life.

… No. Probably not.

Ducking, and receding away from Finn gave Minerva a moment to contemplate the meaning behind his words… and how she would interpret them. Pushing hair away from her eyes, the trainee settled on an answer. “Yes, of course. Although… probably not the sort you’d think?” Carefully eyeing the other, the trainee returned her focus to his hands and the weapon within them, trying to anticipate his next move. "I miss my family."
