Calder had been bored wit the meeting the day before, finding it far too long and in no way benificial to him. A while in and he didn't care about colors and mascots and was debating what piece of furniture he wanted to break apart or who he could slid up against. Everyone else, however, seemed invested and he soon left. The days were again just as frustrating as before, and he spent the rest of the day in the woods, running and chasing anything quick enough to make it worth the chase.
After spending the night in the swamp behind the monster dorms, he headed to Barth's room, dripping wet and creating puddles on the expensive carpet and lacquered wood of the demon dorm hallways. Reaching into his pockets, he pulled out a small frog and a key, popped the frog into his mouth, chewed it, and opened the door.
Inside, the place looked much of the same mess as before, and he guessed Christof was attending to some other person for a while. Not caring about the state of the room, to which he had helped trashed, he looked around, lifting up blankets and cushions to try and find Barth.
Eventually he found the demon on the bed, fully dressed as was the norm for the lazy demon. Working past the thorns, Calder leaned in to n** at the vulnerable ear poking through messy clumps of blue hair. However, just as he was drawing close, he smelled something.
It was strange, somewhat spiced, with accents he wasn't used to smelling on the typically perfumed demon. Leaning in, he sniffed his ear, then crawled closer to be practically on top of him, leading down to smell his hair and then lifting up a arm to smell his sleeve and then jacket. He knew this smell. It was from someone he met. Someone he vaguely knew.
It was the smell of a library. Of old paper, ink, and yet the muskiness of a person. Not quite monster, as most monsters had a elemental smell to them from where they slept. No. This was something more.....enclosed.
At first Calder wondered if it was Riley, but the ghoul had smelled like honeyed flowers in the heat of summer. No. This had no such floral elegance to it or the healthy sweat akin to the working-out demon.
He smelled the collar of Barth's jacket, against the sloth demon's neck. No. Maybe a bit animal. It was nagging how it wasn't quite a monster he recognized, but at the same time had a tinge to it. A creature he smelled before. A horse - no. He would have recognized that quickly. Not a lamb or a cow. There was a heated musk of something he should know. A go-
A room came to mind. A dark room. Organized. Private.
Ears going back, Calder dropped the sleeve he'd been inspecting. He regarded the exhausted demon, and then knowing that simple little measures would not wake him, grabbed the side of the demon and threw him off the bed.

Barth clattered against the wall, and while violence was not always enough to wake him, he was feeling strung out (but not entirely depleted, or there'd be no waking him regardless) in the Fear department. His body was on unsteady alert.
Thin, whiplike vines answered, ziplining Calder towards the opposite wall aggressively.
Barth stirred, uneasy, one eye dragging itself open.
"Calder...?" he asked, strange and bleary, and the thorns immediately slacked, withering guiltily.
"Sorry. You alright? What...what's going on?" He touched the place where his head had hit the wall, and half-expected some disastrous news: the school was under attack, a bomb...?

When Barth slept, he slept protected. Being a sloth demon, he was usually unconcious and easily out of it when he had to spend energy fighting. The thorns and vines were developed when Calder was with Barth, and he saw them grow from a small cluster of throns at night to something very impressive. Even still, the thick vines that materialized was startling, and he was gripped about his body and limbs and pulled back away from the sloth demon, but not by much. Barth woke up, which Calder was glad for considering that, if he slept through this, he could wind up fighting Calder unconsciously. Not that the kelpie was too concerned about that. Fighting Barth's vines almost seemed like a fun activity, but there were far more pressing matters to address.
Released, Calder straightened himself out and walked over around the bed to where Barth laid. "Oh, you're awake. " He said, looking down at him. His eyes were growing dark, but hadn't transitioned over to the milky white of hot anger. He was more agitated by the smell. Now that he figured out what (or more importantly who) it was, it felt like it was flooding the entire room.
"You seem awfully tired, Barth. Busy last night? I smell a few things on you. A little of this. A little of that. Sweat for one thing." He crossed his arms. "Must have been something very important to make you work up a sweat. Care to tell me what?" His voice was deep, with the rising undercurrent of anger.
Calder tapped one of his hooves on the floor, waiting for an answer.

Barth seemed very muddled.
He tried to process the slew of questions.
"Ah. Yes. Well, err. A business meeting? After a fashion. You know, I had thought Zar was a paperwork-centered demon, but I suppose it's more of a hobby..."
He rubbed his head.

Calder stilled his napping hoof, and then stepped closer to put said hoof right between the demon's legs. "I don't know what sort of business meetings demon's have, but the one's I hear about don't leave someone's scent throughout your clothes." He shifted his weight to lean in.
"I'd start explaining, Barth, or else I might just accidentally slip."

Barth had mixed reactions to the hoof.
On the one hand, alarm, naturally, but- Barth hissed and shrunk down against the wall, squirming uncomfortably.
"Ah, well, you know he issss an incubus. And quite good at it. So, that sort of meeting... you seem upset."

His eyes burst into smoking white as he dropped his hoof to the side, relieving Barth of the pressure, before bending down and griping a fistful of cravat. "I KNOW he's a incubi, and I though you hated him!" He said, pulling up on the fabric to bring the sloth up to his level.
"How the heaven do you go from squirming every time I mention him to rubbing antlers with him?" And in such a short time frame. There had been no signs previously that Barth could even tolerate his company, let alone respond to any sort of advances. Then again, where the hell was Zar doing to even start advancing?!! Calder had put both of them in the same room, entertained quiet a few fantasies, but he never saw any signs of such interest before.
"Don't even go about saying you were in NEED of it. I've been here plenty and you throw a fit whenever I try and exhaust you - which, might I add, YOU HAVE FALLEN ASLEEP BEFORE AND LEFT ME PISSED OFF!" He had given Barth more than enough and had still been in need, and while he enjoyed Barth, he did not see the demon going out of his way to find more ways to exhaust himself.
He gripped to pull Barth's face closer. "Do you really have all that energy to be prancing with demons? First Lilith and now ZAR? You must be hiding a awful lot of energy from me, Rosebud. Maybe I haven't been working you hard enough. Hmmmm???"

"I don't hate him- I err, misjudged him," Barth looked quite depressed at the energy-related accusations, "and I know that you need...somewhat more, err, physical activity than I provide, and I had hoped that someone more, you know, similarly oriented might help provide some relief, look it's a bit long-term goalwise but I think the, interest meeting went quite well and that he has, a variety of assets that could prove...useful to me- us."
Barth looked at Calder hopefully.

"Oh, well I'm SO glad you had my needs in mind. I'm sure I was at the very front of your thoughts when you had this very meeting. It's so nice that I have such a caring, concerned, self-sacrificing boyfriend who would go out of his way to pick up a partner for me." He continued to hold him up by the scruff of his cravat, either letting Barth hang himself or force himself to stand. Forcing the demon to exert a little energy was a nice way to make him suffer.
"It would have been nice that during this meeting, I was actually invited, seeing as I was part of your chief concern in deciding to romp around. You're making a nice habit of adding members to our little herd. I hope you didn't make Zar think he was in any way first pick, or did I even come up at all during this meeting where, as you said, I was being thought of." From the smell of it, he doubted there was much hesitation that would have been caused by mentioning Barth's monster partner.

Barth hung, prying feebly at the silk with his claws and having a time getting any air.
"S-Sssorry," he hissed again.

He glared at Barth, narrowing his eyes as smoke flickered from the corners, before he let him drop on the bed. His eyes flickered and then returned to dark black, outlined by green.
He crossed his arms once more. "So, did you invite it or he invite you? I didn't think either one of you were even in the least bit interested? You said you had a meeting, but is that just pretty demon talk for wanting to go to his place for fun? You never seemed to be thinking about that whenever I had Zar over here."
It was still strange for him to even hear and smell that Barth was with Zar. Last he saw, they did not even like each other. True, Zar was a incubi, but the demon said he wasn't very much involved in that aspect of his life. The demon was still uncomfortable about colors! How in Jack's name did he brush up against a blue demon?
But that wasn't just all of it. No. Here Calder had had these two in the same room before playing with pretty ideas in his head and they went and played around without him! Here he was, exerting energy in the woods because Barth had to conserve energy to be of any use at night, energy that Calder had a claim to, dibs on, and he came back to seeing the demon exhausted on his bed. That was just....just....UNFAIR!
There was also concern. The feeling that...he hadn't been good enough. He tried not to let the last one get to him, but it was making his chest tight despite how much he wanted to rip Barth's head off.

Barth collapsed gratefully against the bed, rubbing his throat and replying in a small voice,
"He invited me. He...asked how my experiments were going. Hisss, boilfriend was weaponisssed. Thingsss sort of, progressed from there. I would have called if I thought you'd be upset."

He breathed out, a huff of a sigh. "Then don't use pretty talk to manipulate me, Barth. I'm not some nobody you need to twist with words. I should be above that. Don't say you were thinking of me first when you were with him and then make excuses about not calling. Just come out with it. Zar may be a incubi, but I'm a kelpie. Just because I don't have the magic and mind of a demon, doesn't mean I can't understand. I'm as much a predator as he is. I can understand needs."
"So just tell me, did you want him when the conversation moved to other places? Can you honestly tell me, someone who's been with you for a while now and has risked life and limb for you, that at that moment you just simply wanted him? Or was it just that you wanted to use him to have a alternative for me?" He looked at the demon, the blackness seeping away to deep pools of green as his tail went still, limp and quiet.

He looked at Calder from the bed, sighing.
"What's bothering you? My motivations? They're not as single-faceted as all that. Lilith wasn't about...that. I mean, that bit was nice. If you want the truth, she wanted me as her familiar. Zar's an office drone. Filing, entrapment, documentation. Which is all very tedious for me, and let's be frank. Christof is terrible at paperwork. He's a smart aleck. And while you're a creatively talented writer, you are not made for an office. It was a negotiation. I do need him, eventually. I just wasn't sure who would end up using who, and Contractually- if he'd gotten me into something binding- I mean, something I couldn't use...I was cautious. And while this seems out of the blue and roundabout, I am in the business of tempting, and getting it right is rather...drawn out. He's an incubus, as we've both said. It's a language he understands. I wasn't badly in need or- neglected. I do enjoy you."

Calder felt like moving. It was one of the best way he sorted out energy he couldn't otherwise use to strangle the demon. He was upset on levels he both understood and didn't. So, both to torment the demon of sloth and to help his own mind, he started to pace.
"I guess if it was to use him, I could understand that to some degree. I'm not a demon, and while I keep asking, I won't ever understand the complexities of contracts. I find them....nice in my own way and not the way you seem to." He liked something binding in order to keep someone close by. Why some were worried it would leave you a prisoner, it also meant you were close to your captor. There was a intimacy he sought that contracts had a nice way of giving. However, he respected Barth's wariness in keeping Calder from making any, and Calder didn't offer himself to be marked, branding like cattle, for just anyone. It was a comforting thought to think that Barth didn't want him contracted to anyone because Barth claimed him. That he was his, and that, in demon-speak, it meant he didn't want him touched by any other demon. However, that never seemed to apply to Barth, and he made it known later that he didn't care if Calder wandered off with anyone.
Despite Calder's attempts to make Barth jealous, they never bore any fruit. The demon never had the sort of aggression he sometimes desired from him. There was no real fight.
And here Barth was again, tangoing with some other demon under some desires demon's had. It made Calder wonder if he should be playing with more monsters these days, and it once again made him feel separated. He spent a lot of his time in the demon dorms with friends that weren't monsters, and for that he wasn't often understood. They all missed a vital part of him.
He continued to pace, quiet for a while.
"You don't need him now, so even using him down the way isn't what you were after. So, is it that you can't tempt me and tempting Zar is practice for you?"
He turned to continue pacing. "I can understand that you are who you are and being with more than one boil or ghoul. Kelpies aren't typically like my parents. They make herds and....mingle between them. I just feel.....like you are taking on lovers left and right that come out of the woodwork without any warning. What am I to think then? If you want to be with someone, then fine. You were honest to tell me about your views on that beforehand, and Zar isn't the worst choice." Calder paused. "...He has a nice set of horns on him."BUT don't go telling me it's for my sake. I at least am owed enough honesty for that and give me a head's up if you decide you want someone. We're intimate enough."
He crossed his arms a bit more tightly, tail flicking as he still was upset. "...I should think that if I started bringing monsters home, I'd at least send a text." Not that Barth would read it. It pissed him off that despite his own desire to tempt, he wasn't getting many fish on the line. It made him feel....less desirable.
"You also understand that if you are with Zar, Zar is part of our herd. Do you get what that means? Why this might upset me? This isn't just a deal between you and him."
Calder turned to walk in front of Barth, staring down at him. "My kind doesn't play that way."
