Today was a long day for Richard Moreau, and it would seem that it would have to last a little while longer as Captain Buddingtonite. But that was okay. When he was just Richard Moreau, co-owner of Sugar Shanty and confectioner extradordinair, he had to deal with a lot of bull, things that he simply had to grin and bear no matter how bad it got. Children were a constant bane of his existence as most cared nothing for order or cleanliness. They dug their disgusting fingers in his masterpieces and ruined it for others, and left messes for him and his employees to clean up. It was costly and downright inconvenient, but they were children... they didn't care. He found only a handful of children he did not despise, but most of them...

They made him quiver, but what could he do? He needed their business, and he was but a poor man trying to make a buck, just like everyone else.

But as Buddingtonite, he could do so much more. Or, at least, he thought he could. The last child he had encountered as a lieutenant ended poorly for him, and how could Buddingtonite ever forget the feel of that senshi's magic that day? The first part wasn't so bad and was quite pleasant, but the second part... he got the shivers just thinking about it, despite the flames that raged within him that night. No, Buddingtonite had learned his lesson. Children were off limits, so long as that senshi of red and black frills was lurking around. He hadn't seen him since that night, but in this world and with his luck, Buddingtonite wasn't willing to take that chance.

All Buddingtonite wanted to do was avoid children at all cost. Surely fate would allow him this boon, for once?

The fates did not seem to smile on Buddingtonite.

If anything, perhaps they were laughing at him.

Chibi Goretti was, first and foremost, a child. He was, secondly, a senshi—and still fairly new.

And he was as excited about being a senshi as a child in a candy store.

His interaction with Negaverse agents had been minimal; the last run in hadn't been bad but neither had it been particularly satisfying. He'd been chased away without much chance for discussion or chatting. They hadn't even exchanged names!

…But he hadn't gotten hurt, so there was still a positive side of things.

Negaverse auras were still fairly unfamiliar to him, though he understood what one was when it flickered onto his radar. Except, this one was different than before. This one wasn't as strong or scary as the last…and that meant it was worth investigating, right?

It wasn't late enough that he felt particularly awful about still being out—and for all he knew, maybe the last one was just a bad seed?

Curiosity consumed him; he bit his lip as he darted around trees to try and seek out the energy signature. It took him a few tries to get right, but when he did, he let out a pleasant sigh. The man's outfit was odd—something he was certain that you'd remember. He looked like he should be some comic book character—and that intrigued the boy.

Could the Negaverse just be misunderstood superheroes? …Or maybe they were just the bad guys. He didn't know—but he was determined to find out.

"Hey," he called waving. Goretti was absolutely not shy about getting the attention. "You're a Nega guy, right? What are you doing out here?"

He tried to sound intimidating, or like he knew what he was doing, but even his serious face and fierce hands-on-hips posture was belittled by his short stature—and the difficult time he was having looking fierce.

No sooner had Buddingtonite started seriously considering calling it a night did an Order signature sprung up on his radar, and he wasn't quite sure what to make or it. Well, except to give a deep sigh and a slump of his shoulders. What he was hoping for was a non-combative night, uneventful and kind to him, and of course, it would figure that someone had it out for him.

"But, what kind of loyal officer to the Negaverse would I be if I ignored a possible threat?" Buddingtonite said to himself, adjusting his hat and brushing the dust off of his shoulders, before summoning his boomerang to his hand. Not that he wasn't looking forward to the possibility of the approaching Order aura being someone he could lure over or talk out of a situation, but given his turn of luck recently, he wouldn't humor the notion. "Very well. Take one for the team, Buddy. At least I have a youma now…"

One that he would call to him in a heartbeat, if he felt the need to. Gra would have at least shielded him from the blows of his incoming opponent, but why risk him being harmed? No, he was certain that he could take on this opponent all on his own, and no sooner did he ready his boomerang to throw did the enemy come into view. To Buddingtonite surprise, and horror…

A CHIBI SENSHI!

Any Negaverse officer would have mocked and teased the little thing, but not Buddingtonite. It wasn't that he necessarily feared Chibi Senshi, and he had little love for them, though that might have been his overarching disgust of children in general trying to consume him. But no, he did not fear this Chibi, merely the threat that still lingered in his mind, and he looked around the buildings around him, not feeling an overwhelming presence of an Eternal nearby but simply not willing to take the risk. "Oh, no, no, no! I'm not falling for this! You stay right there, little man, and I'll be on my way!"

He looked for an exit, and what better way then the way he came? He spun on his heels and began to walk away, waving his boomerang in the air as he shouted, loudly. "I don't hurt Chibi Senshi, or children! I learned -my- lesson! So, get lost, please? Thank you!"

Goretti slowly cocked his head to one side. Little man? Falling for what? Why was he supposed to stay still?

"H-Hey!" he blurted, as soon as he realized the guy was running. He should feel happy—that this villain was so quick to run…and that it meant he wasn't going to have to get into any nasty battles.

…Except, Goretti knew he wasn't intimidating, and it made him worry that this guy had been up to no good and was trying to flee the scene of a crime before Goretti figured out just what that crime was.

"Don't run from me!" he said, sucking in a breath, chasing after the captain.

Goretti knew he wasn't very strong, but he also knew that while powered up, he could run. And he took full advantage of that fact.

"I'm not going to let you get away!" he shouted, crossing the distance in only a brief few seconds. But he didn't stop at just that—he held out a hand and shouted, "Goretti Glue Puddle!"

In an instant, a puddle of sticky glue puddle formed beneath Buddingtonite's feet, trying to stick his feet to the ground.

ChibiGingi
A puddle of glue roughly two feet wide sprouts from beneath the target's feet and remains for twenty five seconds. The target will find it exceptionally difficult to ply their feet from the ground, and should they manage to free themselves from the glue puddle (as it can be done, more often than not by higher level characters) each following step will also be hindered by the clinging glue. After twenty five seconds, the glue turns to dust and loses all of its sticky properties. This attack can be used once per battle.

Buddingtonite was hoping that the chibi senshi would have just left him alone, but even he knew how difficult that would have been, given just how rotten his luck was at times. Fate was a cruel mistress, one that he must have cheated out a few times, as no sooner did Buddingtonite take to running did the little senshi follow, and he threw back another shout before trying to increase his speed, using his longer legs to his advantage. "I can run from whoever and whatever I want, whenever I want, little man! I'm an adult, and you should respect your elders!"

Of course, he could have teleported away though the fear of needing that strength later prevented him from abusing it. Not to mention how embarrassing that would have been when others discovered he was actively fleeing from not just any opponent, but a chibi senshi. Any respect he might have held would have been gone, but he'd rather lose respect than to tempt tasting that Eternal senshi's wrath once again. Better to be known as a coward than to feel those flames again!

He heard the senshi's shout but he didn't slow down or stop to turn around, merely trying to move forward. But something grabbed his boot and down he went, twisting around and barely catching himself with his other foot, and any attempt to flee after that was gone from his mind as he looked down at the puddle that had magically formed at his feet. He struggled to keep his balance, and it didn't help when he turned his gaze towards Goretti, his surprise clear as day on his face. "What in the... is this GLUE?! Release me at once! I wasn't going to hurt anybody and you can't prove otherwise!"

To be at the mercy of the enemy was bad enough, but one like Goretti? Not only did he have him to worry about, but what if that other senshi arrived and he was unwilling to listen? That was what caused him to fight against the glue's hold the most, but to no avail. For now, he was at this chibi senshi's mercy... and he didn't like it one bit!

Goretti skidded to a stop as soon as the Glue slowed the Negaverse Agent. To be honest, he wasn't even sure his attack would work—and he certainly wasn't sure what to do with the Captain now that he'd caught him. For a second he stood there and scratched the back of his neck before he shifted positions and said, "Well, why are you running? Did you wanna play tag or something? I mean, if you weren't up to no good, I'm sorry for attacking you. I just thought it was kinda your job to go around and do bad things."

He was torn, and it showed on his face. A part of him was proud—he'd caught this guy.

…But maybe it was the wrong guy.

He said he wasn't doing anything bad—that he wasn't going to hurt anyone—and Goretti felt guilty. He was certain he hadn't hurt the man, but if he had? A heavy sigh fell from his lips, and still very conflicted he muttered, "Sorry…"

"What… kind of question is that? Why am I running? Does it really matter?" Buddingtonite continued to twist and turn, trying to break out of the glue, considering just giving up his boots and taking the rest of the flee barefoot. But damn, these boots were stylish, and how embarrassing would it have been if someone saw him without his boots? Sure, they would have returned once he transformed, but it was still the principle that he'd abandon his boots to flee from a foe. And one that didn't capitalize on his advantage… much to Buddingtonite's relief. "I ran because if I harmed a single hair on your head, that overprotective Eternal senshi would suddenly appear and try to kill me! So, better safe than sorry."

His apology did not garner the reaction that he was likely looking for, as it only made Buddingtonite even angrier. With his bare fists, he swung at the chibi senshi, not aiming to harm him but to keep him away from him as long as possible. "What kind of game are you playing? You have me right where you want me, where either you or another one of your companions could swoop in for the kill, and you're going to apologize? Ngh… no wonder you're never going to win this war!"

Not that he wasn't grateful that this one wasn't the type to kill him… well, that he knew of. He gave a sneer, his struggles ceasing for a moment to get a better look at the chibi senshi before him. "Who are you, by the way? Judging by this little trap I'm in, my guess is that your sphere has to do with glue?"

"Kill you?" Goretti blurted. "Well, jeez, I'm not going to murder you. You're supposed to be the bad guy—all I want to do is make sure you're not doing anything bad. I mean, I guess I could kick you some if that would make you feel better?"

He put his hands on his hips, though really couldn't see how that was going to make anything better.

"But I'm out here alone right now, so I don't think you have to worry about someone coming in to kill you. I could call someone, though," he said, withdrawing his phone and tapping at it thoughtfully.

…Not that he had any desire to hurt the Negaverse agent. He didn't even seem so bad, besides seeming a little angry. "But that doesn't seem like a good idea. You seem smart, though. I am the senshi of glue," he said, so very close to boasting. "I like it. I'm Goretti. So who are you? I promise I won't get you in trouble. I mean, unless you do anything bad. The glue'll go away in a minute so you don't have to hurt yourself. It's not permanent."

Which reminded him to take a few steps back, just in case the Captain wasn't quite so friendly when the glue faded.

"NO, don't you dare kick me!" Buddingtonite spat, even though Goretti didn't appear to be willing to follow through with the threat, and for that, Buddingtonite was grateful. He despised children already and the thought of one being able to kick him in the shin and get away with it really dug deep with him. His confession to being alone should have been enough to quell that growing paranoia, but how could he think to trust him? Not only was he a child, a creature that could and willingly lied on a whim, but a member of the White Moon Court, and like hell he'd believe their lies. For Buddingtonite, there was no other way. "And I assure you, there's no need to call anyone. Once I get my boots free from this gunk, I am leaving and going to a place where YOU can't find me! Or rather, I'd like to see you try... the youma would have a field day with you."

This could have been construed as a threat and therefor the blonde haired defender of children would have used that as an excuse to strike him down once more, but his senses told him that he wasn't here, or at least not in powered form. Which was perfectly fine with Buddingtonite for now. He wanted to reached for that phone of his and throw it as far as possible, but the thought of accidentally striking him in the crossfire and thus facing that Eternal Senshi's wrath kept him at bay.

Though it came from the enemy, Buddingtonite would never turn down a compliment, and he wore a rather smug grin as he absorbed more fodder for his ego. Considering the damage it was taking from this encounter, he figured there was no harm in taking whatever he could get, at least to buffer out the shitstorm he'd get from Serpentine when he inevitable found out about this blunder. "Well, a pleasure to meet you, Goretti, or would be if... well, nevermind that. I am Captain Buddingtonite, of Infiltration branch. And keeping me out of trouble will be greatly appreciated. Keep this encounter between the two of us..."

When Goretti told him that it wasn't permanent, he worked hard to hide his grin, and he was grateful to feel the sticky substance finally starting to break away. Now would have been a great time to attack, but by now, Buddingtonite's fighting spirit was pretty much done. Anything he did now would only serve as fodder for that Eternal Senshi's wrath later, and he not desire to feel that wrath ever again. "Before I break out of this glue and be on my merry way doing boring, responsible adult things, mind telling me why you're even in this war? I mean, I get that people think the Negaverse is evil, but at least we don't employ children as soldiers... why is it okay with the White Moon Court?"

Goretti had no interest in following Buddingtonite if he was really as innocent as he said. He watched somewhat warily, but listened, trusting that the Captain was honest. "Well, it's good to meet you, Buddingtonite."

He hoped.

Except when Buddingtonite started talking about how people thought the Negaverse was evil. If he could say that, didn't it mean that he understood the people he worked for were bad?

"Well," he said slowly. Why was he in the war? Did Buddingtonite want his reasoning, or did he want the cosmic, divine reasoning for why?

…Because Goretti honestly didn't know the answer to either.

It wasn't something he'd ever really sat himself down to think about.

"I wouldn't say…employ," he mused. "I mean, it's not like I'm getting paid for it—and it's not like anyone's forcing me to do it. I could stop, if I wanted. I could not power up at all. To be honest, the only reason I do it because I don't want the people I care about to get hurt. And I admite, I don't understand a lot in this. I don't know the whole backstory, and I don't understand how or why everyone's doing things. But I know that when there's a monster—a youma," he corrected, "That's threatening me or the people I care about…I just worry that if I don't do something, one day I'll never see them again. If I'm not out there helping out in some way—even just some little way…then I'm going to lose someone I care about. So I can't speak for everyone else—but I want this." He spoke with resolve and nodded, as is to reaffirm his feelings. "I want this power, just to make sure the people I care about are safe. To make sure they make it home at night. And I might not be as strong as the other senshi, but I can at least keep the streets a few youma cleaner."

Now was the perfect opportunity for Buddingtonite to either take his leave or even strike down the little Senshi for his audacity to take on an older, more experienced officer, but Buddingtonite did neither of those things. And while it would have been considered a waste of an opportunity to rid the universe of another of those wretched Senshi, Buddingtonite simply feared that other Eternal senshi's wrath to take the chance. Not to mention, this one was much smarter than he appeared, and Buddingtonite could respect that.

To a degree.

"Neither am I, unless one considers keeping their life a payment, in which I'd say it's a worth undertaking to be employed with the Negaverse," Buddingtonite said, a rather smug grin on his face, unfitting for one that was moments ago trying to escape a child and was caught in glue. Despite this smugness, Buddingonite offered him an ear to his explanation, and while he appeared unamused, scraping his boots against the pavement in some pathetic attempt to remove the remnants of the gunk from his clothing, he was certainly taking mental note of the young senshi's plight.

The one with the youma was a bit of a grey area for Buddingtonite, and though he crossed his arms over his chest, his voice wasn't without some hint of sympathy. "Well, I suppose I could understand that. After all, most youma are brutish creatures, humans who were degraded into nothing more than animals with an instinct to devour energy and starseeds... wanting to protect others from them can be considered a worthy enough endeavor, but I think you're getting yourself into a lot of trouble."

Goretti's resolve was strong, for one so young, and that made him openly spiteful, as he scoffed, "Disgustingly noble, but I see where you're coming from. Just do me a favor and keep this little encounter between the two of us to yourself. If you ever run into an Eternal senshi with curly blonde hair and a stylish little black top hat, make no mention of me. At all. I'd rather not him assume I did something dreadful here when it was you that instigated the entire affair. Do that, and I'll give you another little factoid that I think you'll find useful."

Kyuseisha no Hikari

The note about the youma sent a shiver of fear down Goretti's spine; he didn't really know what youma were, only that they were bad. Humans who were degraded into animals…

…But youma weren't even animals. Animals just wanted to do their own thing, be by themselves. Animals didn't want to hurt people—didn't go looking for trouble.

Goretti wouldn't have been able to strike down an animal as easily as he did a youma; morally, he was appalled at the idea of hurting any animal.

…But an animal that was threatening your life? Sure, he'd fight a bear or something. But an angry cat? …Or what about a rabid dog?

Were youma so unlike rabid dogs? Or, maybe zombies was a better assessment. Humans degraded into animals—monsters—for the sake of devouring an insatiable hunger? Just replace energy with brains and it was a done deal.

But it made his stomach flop, and he felt a bit uncomfortable. Goretti didn't know if Negaverse agents were really the most trustworthy person to be getting information from, but he'd make sure to talk to someone else about it—someone he could trust. Maybe some Eternal senshi with curly blonde hair and a stylish little black top hat. Or Lenka, or Julienne.

He had half a mind to threaten to snitch on Buddingtonite if he didn't promise to be on his best behavior, though his curiosity was always going to get the best of him. Instead, at the offer of another little factoid he couldn't help but want in on the secret. He offered the Captain a skeptical look and planted his hands on his hips before replying, "All right, sure. I guess I can keep my mouth closed about running into you. As long as you have something really interesting to tell me."

Had Buddingtonite not been so intent on making his escape and avoiding that Eternal senshi's wrath, he might have seen the turmoil he was causing poor Goretti, and maybe even drove the stake deeper if he knew how. He'd dangle what information he knew over the little one's head, just to toy with him, avenge the insult that he inflicted upon him this day and even walk away from all of this cackling. It might have been over the top and just downright evil, but if there was one thing that Buddingtonite enjoyed more than alcohol, sex and a good time, it was tormenting little children, even one doned in sailor suits.

Goretti's ultimatum made the captain give a sigh, however, and he was quick to rag on the little one, even when he made a conscious effort not to strike or even touch him. He wanted to flick that little nose of his and tell him to bug off, but somehow he managed to refrain, though that didn't stop his voice from becoming innocent. "Is that not interesting enough for you? What more do you wish to know? You do realize that I can't tell you everything without getting in trouble with my higher ups? What else could you possibly find interesting, you little-"

Suddenly, it dawned on him, and the idea made him grin from ear to ear. Suddenly, his tone changed, and all outward signs of anger or annoyance were gone, and he placed his hands behind his back, sparing Goretti from the fear of being struck down. His voice was sweet, sickeningly, diabetes-inducingly so, as he gave a nod. "Very well, I do have one interesting little bit of information that I think you'd find useful. In exchange for this bit of information, you'll not tell anyone of our meeting?"

It was a risky gamble and it played off the assumption that Goretti didn't know of his ability to teleport, but it was certainly a risky gamble that Buddingtonite was willing to take.

"Well—you're the one tempting me with all this information!" Goretti pouted, watching the Captain warily. "I already said I'd keep my mouth closed if you tell me something."

He wasn't necessarily in any rush to go tell anyone anything, though he couldn't really understand why Buddingtonite was insisting on such secrecy. It made him suspect that the man had been up to no good and that if Goretti talked enough, Buddingtonite was just going to get in trouble.

The boy wasn't a liar by any means, but sometimes he just forgot to hold his tongue. Maybe Buddingtonite was just embarassed that Goretti had caught up with him—and maybe he really was just misunderstood here.

Maybe.

Goretti wasn't going to jump to conclusions just yet. "So—So, I will keep quiet." Probably. "I guess I'm just curious. I don't know much about you guys at all, so…"

It was too easy. It was just too easy! So easy that it likely could have been a trap, but Buddingtonite had the utmost confidence in himself to strike him down should it be a trap. It was so hard to hide his mischevious grin from the youth, though his crimson eyes gleamed at the thought of what he was about to do.

Any other officer might have tried to take the Chibi's starseed when they drew close enough, and Buddingtonite couldn't deny that the thought crossed his mind several times within the last few seconds. What kept him from doing so, besides fear of that Eternal senshi's ongoing wrath, though, was that he couldn't see the dumbfounded look on his adorable little face if he just outright killed him right then and there. Oh, and also the fact that he may have been able, and willing, to strike the young one down, taking his life may have been beyond his power. Ripping starseeds from unsuspecting civilians was easy, but a Senshi had proven to be a hassle, and though this one was a Chibi, Buddingtonite knew better than to try. Not when there was so much life and energy within his little frame... concentrated energy was likely more potent and there were no tentacles to hold him down.

So, no, there were no plans for ending Goretti's life tonight. When Goretti was all but begging him to tell him, Buddingtonite was quite to oblige, cupping a hand over the side of his mouth as though preparing to whisper the secret into Goretti's ear, and he pitched his voice low, meant for the Chibi's ears only. "You ready? Now, I'm only going to tell you this once... here we go. You see, use Negaverse captains can..."

And then, he disappeared. Using the nifty ability of teleportation, he brought himself from the ground and reappeared on top of a nearby building, and he managed to stiffen his laughter as he peered over the edge, lingering around long enough to see the Chibi's reaction. Then, and only then, would he cackle...
