She still couldn't fully wrap her mind around the events that had occurred. Nor did she attempt to think too hard on what little she did remember. It came in vague flashes when she would settle down and try to relax. But it was all so confusing and hard to believe! She didn't like having nothing to do either. It was as if the world was just taunting her to sit and remember.

Shades of grey.

Excalibur.

:: I'm still much better than that old fogy. ::

Vashi had, for whatever reasons, been quite offended about not being remembered and having Excalibur save the day. Fini had just ignored his little rants. And bitching.

Which was yet another reason she volunteered to be out on patrols as much as possible. It not only gave her something to do but when they did find something, it kept Vashi distracted as well.

:: So that's the secret, eh precious? ::

:: Of course! You've found out my grand plan~ ::

She just rolled her eyes, stretching her arms in front of her. "How many do ya think we'll spot today?" Fini asked aloud this time.

The vârcolac grumbled a few unsavory things before responding. :: Probably about 15 or so. Unless we are talking about whiny brats. Then one of this is way more than enough for us! ::

Fini chose not to respond to that, taking a moment to stop and glance up towards the sun peeking through the fog. It was... strange to see it. And even stranger still to realize how much she'd actually missed being out in the sun. But as nice as it was, it was also a reminder of the current state of Deus. And the creatures that had been the cause of it. "Huh, there's one off in the distance. Guess we should head that way?"

He was tired. So bloody tired. He hadn't slept well since coming back from the tear. Since the alarms with the woman's voice calling hunters to the crystal caves. Since instead he found himself on a beach, watching the tentacles that rose and seemed to wave at him from the distance before dipping back below the surface. Things that shouldn't exist, but did. Things he was supposed to defend against, like some kind of protector of the human race.

Finn had, like most boys, always wanted to be a hero. It was a prospect that had excited him. But that. Those things. To think about it and to see it in person, and not even up close and personal yet, was two different things entirely. He wasn't having second thoughts by any means, it was just....

Every time he closed his eyes he could see them, stretched up, and then splashing back down....and then the woman, talking about their size. Their size. They were massive.

Given all of that, it was almost funny how he'd signed himself up for patrols, as many as he could get in fact. And he was there, bright and early, earlier then he needed to be, just watching, leaning on his lance that was stabbed into the ground, his jacket for once not tied around his waist but worn properly as it wasn't yet too hot to take it off. He was scanning the horizon for what he knew was there, for what lurked unseen beneath the depths to rise up and make it's appearance and it's presence known.

It wasn't until he heard the sound of somebody approaching, the soft scrunch of footfalls against sand, that he shifted his stance, and turned his head to see just who it was that approached, his eyes squinting.

Oh well hello there.

Raising a hand in the woman's direction in greeting, he then turned back to his study of the ocean's surface, waiting for her to approach, thinking that maybe today he would be lucky in who he got for a patrol partner. She certainly seemed fairly easy on the eyes from what he could see so far.

She didn't notice the other trainee at first, eyes narrowed slightly as she looked out towards the misty waters. It just looked black out there, but she knew there were things lurking below it's surface. Even if the little bit of sun couldn't manage to shine on them.

:: Well, well. What have we got here? :: Vashi's cool voice rumbled through her mind.

Fini looked towards the individual in question. And paused in her step for half a second before slightly changing her direction to move towards him. He was someone she'd never seen before. And he wasn't too bad on the eyes either. Of course the moment she thought that, Vashi growled and muttered a few extra things he thought about the gentleman.

She gave a small wave, waiting until she stopped to greet him. "Good morning. Or afternoon. Whatever time of day out it is." Who was keeping track these days anyways?

:: Pretty boy better keep his eyes northward. ::

"Seen anything worthwhile out here yet?" She asked, gesturing towards the water and ignoring Vashi. Like usual.

When he heard the steps approach to the point where they were practically on top of him, Finn turned his head enough to get a better eyeful then he had before, and let his mouth pull into a large smile, a flash of teeth, a wolf's grin that didn't come close to warming up the look in his eyes. He liked what he had seen from a distance, and he could appreciate it much, much more up close. Maybe it'd had just been too long since he'd kept private company with a woman, but he was seriously considering turning on the flirtatious charm from the get go. After all, it couldn't hurt, could it?

Except that it could hurt. He had to work with these women on a daily basis. Living in close quarters. Doing missions. This wasn't like picking up some young piece of a** in the club for a night. The entire idea of hitting on a co-worker just reeked of a messiness, and he loathed getting messy unless it was entirely necessary. Besides that, he didn't even know what type of woman she was yet, if she was his particular favored type.

So he would play it cool, and keep himself in check. For now at least. He could make no promises, not even to himself, about the future.

He didn't quite keep his eyes northward, unable to stop himself from letting his eyes flicker over her entire body before returning to her face. A very pretty face.

"Morning, though I have to agree. These days just seem to bleed in and out of each other, don't they?" His voice was cool, smooth, not insulting, but not exactly warm and inviting, either. Following her gaze back towards the water, he shrugged.

"A few ripples, a hint of something breaking the surface, but nothing too alarming yet." He squinted out towards where he'd last seen any activity.

"I'm Finn. Pretty sure we haven't met before now? I think I'd have remembered if we had." He looked towards her again, giving her another one of his smiles, his words meant to be a compliment towards her appearance.

His tone didn't seem to faze her at all. She just crossed her arms lightly across her stomach and offered a neutral smile. "Agreed there. Can't keep track of the days lately. And even the little bit of sun that seeps through doesn't help." But it was still nice to see it.

Fini glanced towards the water herself. "So, nothing exciting yet." She sighed, running a hand through her hair.

A growl reverberated through her mind as Vashi puffed up and a flicker in her mind of an image of a canine-like creature staking claims made her roll her eyes. Men!

:: Look at the way he holds himself! Oh he's lucky I can't strangle him. ::

She gave the other hunter a look over herself. Partially to piss Vashi off. But he wasn't that bad looking. Maybe her partner had reason to worry. Fini gave a more friendly smile. "Finn, is it? I'm Infinity. Though most tend to just call me Fini."

Finn had to actually mentally warn himself to be careful here. While he had told himself he was going to behave on this island and not revert back to past habits of smooth talking until he had people right where he wanted them, this girl was really tempting him. She was perhaps one of, if not the, best looking women he'd encountered so far, and now that she was up close he was having trouble dragging his gaze away from her, too busy appreciating what he was seeing.

< If you think she is so attractive, you should court her.> Trynt snarled from the recesses of his mind, almost as though just suddenly awakening. <******** no, that would be a terrible idea. His snapped back mentally, and had to actually be careful to not have his physical face represent his thoughts, carefully continuing to smile at her in that way that he did, the one that didn't warm his eyes at all and left him looking more cold and calculating then anything.

"Not yet. I admit, I'm not exactly disappointed with that fact." He replied, finally breaking his gaze to turn and look back out towards the ocean waves.

He nodded affirmation to his name, then let his smile widen when she gave hers. Infinity? How odd. He never did understand why anybody would give their children such strange names, not that his own was terribly common. "Fini?" He couldn't help but chuckle a bit at the similarity to his own name.

"So are you a trainee as well?" He kind of hoped she said no, that she was his superior so he could just get a chance to say 'I wouldn't mind working under you...'.

No. Bad. Badbadbad. Stop thinking stupid things.

Trynt just laughed at him.

It was probably a good thing for Finn that she could not hear his thought process. Having to listen to Vashi all the time was bad enough! But really, she probably couldn't blame some of the hunters for thinking such things. Especially being stuck on this island as they were. The current state of said island being the worst yet.

:: That is so not an excuse! I'll rip his throat out if he's so much as thi- ::

:: Oh hush up! You're just overreacting. And even if you're right, maybe I think he's good looking enough. ::

:: Pah-lease! I know your mind as well as you. You're not that bad. ::

She was fairly sure Vashi was just in a foul mood not having gotten much Fear as of lately. Finn's expression wasn't exactly the most open and welcoming. Sort of reminded her of some of the other hunter's. But he seemed alright? She stole another look at him. The calculated sort. Which in her experience, meant he wouldn't be too shabby in a fight. However judging by the lack of... well muscle and the strain they all seemed to show signs of from being 'in the field' were lacking. Someone new then?

"Hmm... well I guess I can agree with that too, so long as I have company." She admitted with a small shrug. "Then again, Vashi might go dull." He just snorted at her.

Her lips twitched. Finn and Fini. That could be amusing later on! "Ah... yeah. I am." Stuck as a trainee while many of the others she'd awoken with had moved up in rank. Sigh. "And you? Just a lamb like I am?"

Okay so this was going well so far. He hadn't said anything stupid, at least. Making friends, just like he told himself he was going to, with men, women, whoever. They were all co-workers, and he was stuck here until he died, so it was just in his best interests to get along with as many as he could.

But he was still a man, and certain urges didn't just go away, and certain thoughts didn't just flicker out because he willed it to be so. So yes, appreciating. Without touching. And hopefully without letting on in too painfully obvious ways that the was appreciating.

Aw hell.

His gaze flickered back towards her, his smile growing. "There is some company on this island I could do without, honestly." He admitted, mind wandering towards Stormy and her roommate, Nevada, and probably whoever they were closely associated with, if they decided to make his life on this island hell. "But I think I wouldn't mind keeping yours for today." Or any day, he thought, thankfully keeping it all to himself and to Trynt, who was all too amused by it all.

A lamb? He couldn't help but laugh at the comparison. "Is it obvious? Do I look that soft and fluffy? I always liked to think of myself as more of a wolf." His eyes in comparison to the way he smiled certainly gave such an impression.

"And I would not sell yourself short either, darling. You look about as lamblike as a lion is to a kitten."

"Ah, yes. That, unfortunately, is bound to happen keeping so many of us stuck on an island." Fini murmured, considering a few people she could see much less of. "Of course... you don't want to make too many enemies here either, since they'll probably end up being the ones to watch your back on missions." Or some of the other crazy s**t they'd been sent out to deal with.

She glanced back over at him, eyebrows raising just a fraction. Was he just being nice? Or... nope. The growl in her mind was on the same thought process she was.

:: Devious little flirt. ::

"Well, I can't really complain about the current company either." She said smoothly over Vashi's typical hostility.

Fini made a show have actually looking him over. "Hmm... well, I guess you might have a point." She paused. "Although there might be a little bit of fluff in you." Yep. She was teasing him already. And then laughed. "So they keep telling me! But you know, even a kitten has it's claws~ "

Ohai Finn. Have sass. Ur welcome.

Finn's grin was growing wider and wider, but again something about his eyes just didn't match, like it was impossible for his emotions to be reflected there. Often times, that could come as an advantage, but in times like these, when he wanted to appear friendly, it might just end up getting him into trouble.

"Well, I mean, so far you haven't pushed me into a wall or held a tommy gun up to my eye, so there's that." His thoughts had gone back to Nevada, and of their little confrontation in the hallway. He hadn't reported her for the assault, though he had the grounds to do so, and a witness as well. And though it probably wasn't funny at all, he barked another laugh, and then gestured to the girl to indicate that they should probably begin their round of the island to check on things, taking slow steps through the sand and continuing their conversation as he went.

Her teasing him was amusing in it's own way, and quite encouraging to Finn, who often wondered if what he said might come off the wrong way, though just as often found he didn't really care too much if it did. "Ah well you got me there, but only just a little bit. Minuscule, really." He held up an index finger and thumb, less then a millimeter apart in measurement of how much fluff he deemed himself to have inside. And with her kitten comment, he gave her another long looking over as well, eyes lingering on certain areas of her physique appreciatively.

"I believe it! And I bet they're rather sharp as well. Mind you, I'd rather see you purr."

......Oh jesus ******** christ he had told himself he wasn't going to flirt why had he done that?

Trynt continued to chortle at him and Finn mentally glowered, before coughing into his hand. "Apologies. That was uh...inappropriate. I got a bit carried away."

There, see, he could totally do this. In the meantime, he kept his gaze averted from hers and scanned the waves some more.

She just gave him a look, somewhere between disbelief - was he serious?! - and contemplative. Not that she'd do something like that! Without good reason. Or if it was certain people. Alright, now she was curious about this one! But prying was not her style. Instead she held up her hands in the universal sign of innocence and surrender. "I promise I will not shove you into a wall and hold a tommy gun up to you." A pause. "Well, unless you're into that kind of stuff... " She added as an afterthought.

:: Kinky~ ::

Fini nodded at his gesture, following his lead and beginning to walk along the beach. She kept a casual eye on the murky water, but her attention was on her comrade for the day. She laughed, using both her hands to indicate a slightly larger measurement. "Are you sure it's not something more along these lines?" She indicated her hands held several inches apart.

Annd then she was just giving him a sly smile while a certain vârcolac snarled in her mind. Oh ho! So there was a little spark to this hunter, was there? Luckily for him, she was in a good mood. Fini shrugged casually. "No need to apologize. Besides, it's not like I'd purr for just anyone. Especially someone I just met." She added innocently enough. "That's usually reserved for the third date~"

:: .... Preciousssss. ::

Right. Behaving. But really, he'd walked himself right into that one!

Laughing, Fini let her gaze wander to the waves, moving a bit closer to the waters edge here and there though keeping a 'safe' distance away.

I'm in a lot of trouble here.

Those were the words that predominated Finn's thoughts every single time this gorgeous creature opened up her mouth to speak. He could feel all of his resolve crumbling with every flirtatious tease, and his lips quirked up into a crooked smile as he continued to try and spend more time looking around then directly at her, because that would have only made things twice as distracting.

"Can't say I've ever considered guns to be all that attractive in that context." He turned back towards her. "Whips, ropes, even chains maybe, but not guns." There was a hint of a tease in his voice, but only a hint. He wanted to see how seriously she would take his words, and what the reaction might be.

< If this is how you do not court a ghoul, then I must be very confused right now >

At the measurement she was making with his hands, he gave her a thoughtful squint. "Are you sure your mind is still on fluff, darling?" Yep, completely failing at the whole not messing around thing. Completely and utterly.

I am in so much trouble here.

< So you keep saying... >

At this point Trynt was getting used to getting completely ignored.

He let a chuckle escape him at the retort, eyes drifting once again, making himself look a lot busier then he actually was. He had never really expected patrolling to be this much fun, and his mind was now only really half on the job.

"Well then, Fini, as we've only just met and I really wouldn't mind getting to know you much better, why don't you tell me a bit more about yourself." He had a glance down and around the back of her jacket.

"You're in sun? I hear that's the most dangerous division to be a part of, but I also guess that means it'll be my duty to watch your a**."

And what a fantastic duty that would be.

:: Oooh looks like we definitely got ourselves a live wire here, precious. :: Vashi rumbled darkly. :: Perhaps we should find some rope and tie him down? Before he steps up any higher? ::

There may have been the slightest of faltering in her step as Vashi gave his two cents worth and Fini had her own ideas swirl around her mind. Which was currently growing to be a dangerous place! She looked casually over her shoulder at him, a thoughtful look appearing. "I'll agree with you there." A pause. "About guns." Another pause, though a little longer. "So... you like things that can tie you up? Interesting."

:: Don't do it... ::

"I prefer things you can impale or penetrate people with." She kept her gaze away from him, hiding the sinful little smile that had appeared.

:: I hate you. ::

:: You're just jealous! Now hush. ::

Oh this conversation was just getting even better! Fini had to blink a few times at Finn, glancing between her hands held apart and him, then back again. And then she was laughing. She was so not going to go there! Yet. Though her laughing did increase a little at a few choice comments Vashi made in her mind.

When she had her laughing mostly under control, she gave Finn a swimming smile. "A little bit about myself?" She didn't have to think too long on that, as he provided her with something to respond against. "That's right! My a** gets tossed into the dangerous 'you'll probably die today' stuff. And you get to make sure that doesn't happen."

Fini paused. "Of course, this is assuming you can get beyond staring at my a**." She added with a smirk.

"Who said anything about me getting tied up, darling?" He was quick to reply, giving her an almost predatory look combined with his smirk. And then, with a shrug of his shoulders, and because he figured if he wanted to know more about her, she might as well know a bit about him in return. "I grew up on a farm." A pause, and then he continued on with a small sigh and a shake of his head like he couldn't believe he was actually admitting any of this out loud. "And I used to compete in rodeo's. Saddle bronc, mostly. Less chance getting your teeth knocked out in that particular event. Never moved up beyond novice, though. Quit when I was about 16, actually."

And then that smile was back as he gave her a sidelong look. "So yes, I know my way around ropes, and leather, and belts, and tying things down. Useful knowledge, even after getting out of the circuit." He lifted his eyebrows a bit, because catch his meaning, Fini? Good.

And then. "........Remind me never to leave anything pointy lying around in your presence." Because impaled? No thanks. Really, he was good.

Continuing to move along while only half-assed making sure the parameters looked secure, he listened to what she had to say on the whole sun division thing almost thoughtfully. He knew that, as one in the moon division, it would primarily be his job to defend and repair those in the offensive divisions, primarily sun. Hearing her say it like that, however, almost seem to give him a deeper perspective on the matter.

He actually seemed to turn serious for a moment, his smile sliding away as he looked her steadily in the eyes. "I will do my best."

And then another grin to answer her smirk and her sassy suggestion that he would be literally watching her a** rather then figuratively. "It will be difficult, but I think I'll manage somehow. I'd say an a** like that is definitely worth saving, though." He very deliberately let his eyes flick down while leaning back and tilting his head to the side as though appreciating the view once more.

Straightening back up with a small shake of his head and yet another chuckle, he reached up to run fingers through his nearly perfectly styled hair. "Okay, so tell me more. Like how about where you're from?"

That look combined with his reply had Fini giving him a second look over, as if she was just seeing him for the first time. Hmm, she would have to keep that answer in the back of her mind. For what? Well, it was too early to decide how she'd use it yet! But it was... good to know. Yes. "A farm?" She asked, not masking the surprise in her voice. That was definitely the last place she'd have pictured such a charmer as him! Fini slowed her pace enough to be right next to Finn, so she could actually give him her full attention.

For the moment, at least.

"Holy crap, really?" That was... actually pretty cool! "Never would have pegged you for the cowboy sort." She added, tilting her head up at him slightly. "But now that you mention it, I think you might be able to pull off the hat at least."

And she was beginning to think that whenever that smile appeared, she probably shouldn't trust it. Because she was totally on to your meaning, Finn. Oh yes. She'd have to watch this one.

Not that he was hard on the eyes or anything.

Fini just snickered, giving him a very feline-like look. "That is probably wise. Especially if you get on my bad side." She was kidding, of course! Mostly.

A little of the playful energy burned away with the sudden seriousness and she was privately surprised at how hearing those simple words made her... feel, well not safe but that she might actually have someone that she could count on to watch her back. Which, from her experience so far, was something rare and highly cherished. "I'll hold you to your word." She said with a faint smile. "Not many Suns get to hear such things. At least from what I've seen." She added a little more quietly.

Just like that, she was all play again. Like a cat who had just found a ball of yarn. "Really~?" She made a show of attempting to look at her own a**. "Perhaps I will just take your word on it. I mean, you are the one staring at my a** right now." Giving him a small shove in the arm once he was done admiring the view, she grew quiet for a few moments, pondering his question.

"I'm not really sure where I started out, but I know I wound up living in California for a time. With my adoptive family. But before that? I was too little and wound up in the foster system." Fini shrugged. "I'm not even sure what my real last name was. I took on my adoptive families last name when I was able to." And then she lost them to. Life was a b***h. "Things happened and then bam! Here I am as a Sunny and doing things that are questionable and insane." She grinned.
