Tree-youma only wanted love.

User Image

He sat under the blue skies of the park surrounded by butterflies. Tears ran down his trunk. If someone loved him, they would give him the starseeds he needed to survive. He croaked soft and low as his tree-stomach ached for the gentle glow of a perfect starseed, but who would feed him? Surely not these butterflies, or this soft grass. Even as tree-youma poked his twig-arm at the grass and dug his mouth into it to swallow up some energy, it only gave him dirt.

Poor tree-youma. Hungry. Sad.

But then! The warmth of two power signatures! Oh! This duo would save him from starvation! He would be their best friends! Give them tree-hugs and make them energy pies! Provided they fed him of course...

"HAY." HIS SAVIOR! She wore a pink skirt with a glistening golden bow. She pointed at him! Oh, she knew what he craved! "YOU'RE HERE TO HURT PEOPLE, AREN'T YOU?"

The tree-youma shook his trunk ferverently at her angry sounds. No! No! He didn't want to hurt! He just felt hungry! Couldn't she understand? Wouldn't she give him her starseed, so he wouldn't starve?

Medea couldn't reconcile the youma's presence with kids in the proximity, and she doubted he would behave more reasonably than the blue-youma from earlier, for at least the blue one could speak and reason.

She charged for tree-youma whose eyes grew large. He leapt out of the way.

The park was quite lovely today, yes indeed it was. There was no real fighting going on, and the red haired boy lounged around the top branches of a tree peacefully and powered up, his foot swinging down below him. Such serenity and silence brought him comfort in the ever swirling mess of chaos that was called the world around him.

For a while, that is. Soon enough, a sad, hungry aura reached him, clawing at the back of his mind, something he knew all too well. It had to be a youma, nothing else could fit. With a sigh, a little annoyed that he had to get up from his spot, he leapt from his tree branch, racing across the foliage in order to finally come in contact with whatever beast was there.

To his surprise, there was another there, such a pretty senshi, with a glistening golden bow, fighting with what appeared to be a tree.. It sort of reminded him of the Trees Kirby had to fight in his videogame. Avior could not tell how the tree was feeling at the moment, no, but it had to be dusted, just like all the others.

"Hey! Do you need any help down there? Or do you got this?" He called down to the woman below, sitting down on his branch. If she needed help, he'd offer it, but he had met so many strong senshi as of recent, he was certain that not all of them needed his help. Quite often it was vice versa.

Tree-youma felt so scared! The sparkling lady almost hurt him! Or she could have been running toward him for a hug and he scorned her! Noooo! GIANT TEARS ROLLED DOWN HIS TRUNK. HE WAS SUCH A BAD FRIEND. NOW SHE WOULD HATE HIM FOREVER.

And then!

A reassuring voice from the Heavens! Who could it be but his guardian angel! The second power signature! Tree-youma's tears of anguish turned into tears of joy! How he loved his angel! He would even ensure that the sparkling lady could watch him pull the starseed from his angel's chest, as an example of how to properly feed a youma! Maybe then she would understand how to take care of him and he could explore the city with his new friends!

Granted all his other friends turned kind of...stiff and...quiet? Why didn't they talk to him once they fed him? Did he do something bad? Did they not like him anymore? WHY DID THEY ABANDON HIM?

The tears of anguish returned, but no matter! He would satisfy his hunger first and pal around with his amazing companions later. His twig-arm bouncing, he dashed toward the boy Senshi to TEAR OUT HIS STARSEED GIVE HIM A GIANT HUG.

"YES PLEASE," cried Medea as she tripped and plummeted into the grass. She stood and dusted herself off and charged again.

Continuing to watch the fight down below, Avior just seemed baffled. What was coming from the youma's eyes? Tears? Poisonous sap that would kill them in an instant? It was definitely the most bizarre thing he had seen in.. Ever. this thing seemed to have moodswings as well, from tears to more tears and stopping and gazing at him, then more tears!

"Alright, I'm coming!" He called out to the poor girl, who seemed to stumble over her own feet, picking herself up as if nothing was happening. He couldn't quite grasp why she was charging at it; running headfirst into something never seemed like a good idea in his book. Luckily enough, the youma seemed to be focused on him, so her charge was heading straight behind him.

"I'll lure him over here, and you get him from behind!" Avior stood still, not moving as the beast came closer and closer. He was safe, as long as he put up his wall before it lashed out at him. Hopefully, he would be fast enough.

"Come on over here! I bet I taste delicious!"

THWACK. Tree-youma collided with Avior's tree--his twig-arm swinging up and down pull the beautiful angel into a hug. The angel shone so brilliantly! If only he could reach just a bit more, he could even show the angel his inner brilliance like he showed the others! Except, they didn't seem so keen on their inner brilliance...because then their eyes turned all dark...and...

WHYYY DID THEY GO WHYYYY? DIDN'T THEY LOVE HIM?

When tree-youma hit the tree, it occurred to him that he didn't introduce himself. He would need a name though. Like...

BOB.

THE GRANDEST NAME.

"Bob!" He tried to shout. "Bob!"

What came out instead was:

"KIIIIIIIILL."

Medea's eyes widened. No!

"GET AWAY FROM HIM!" She punched Bob's back. "YOU TERRIBLE CREATURE."

Why did she make these angry sounds again? WHY? Maybe she didn't hear him introduce himself?!

"KILL! KILL!"

Wow. Just.. Just wow. He had never heard a youma talk before. Not one like this. There was the one that came into his house before, and he spoke English pretty well. This one just wanted to kill.. Just wanted to take his seed just like any other.

"I don't think that's going to do it! Find something to hit it with!" It slammed harder and harder against his perch, causing it to shake and snap slowly. Soon enough, the tree couldn't hold out, and began to tumble over.

"Watch Out!" he shouted down to the girl below, jumping onto the youma, landing among it's leaves on the top of it's head. How the heck was he to escape from here?!

The angel played with his hair! Oh wonderful! The corners of Bob's permanent frown turned upward as he wept with glee! But certainly his angel feared heights, and branches could grow tiresome! How could he bring his delightful friend to the earth?

He had an idea!

He smacked his branches into the ground repeatedly shouting "KILL" the entire time, just in case they didn't catch it earlier. He didn't even feel Medea's punch--the bark thick, like armor. Medea however, scraped her hand. She clutched it and drew back.

"Owowowowow!"

How could she save her colleague?

Wrapping her arms around her fuku, she cried, "Alluring Enchantment!" and she sped before the monster!

Bob froze when he saw her. He couldn't look away. Obviously she cast this spell because she felt jealous of the attention the angel received. How could it make it up to her?

He cried.

"AHHH!!" Avior's hands gripped the moving tree's branches as tightly as he could as it continued to move about, smacking it's head into the ground over and over again. He couldn't hold on, not with all the shaking around, and he rolled off of it's head, scratched up by the branches that were a bit sharper than others. Though it looked as if the youma was going to come down to head butt him directly, it stopped, turning to look at the girl instead.

He took this opportunity to look around where they were. There MUST be something around here that could be used to dust the thing! A rock! A giant rock, big enough for him to get a good, solid hit against it! Scooping it up, with it's back still turned away from him, he raised the rock above his head and brought it down as hard as he could.

The cruelties of war! The dusting of a creature good and sweet and pure despite his attempts to reach across faction lines--to become friends with the enemy--only to shatter with the pound of a rock against his bark. He reached out to touch the sparkling Medea--and his twig-arm brushed her hand. The tears in his eyes shined like gems in the sunlight. The corners of his frown still lifted. He whispered: "Kill."

Then, he burst into shimmering dust, floating over the children playing on the swings, becoming one with the breeze, sinking into the earth.

As usual, Medea teared up, but only because of the dust. Nothing else. Nothing at all.

She laughed and wiped her eyes with one hand, extending the other.

"Medea," she said. "Senshi of Enchantment."

Yes. Yes, hands down this was the most baffling experience he had come to encounter since he had powered up. Was it really crying? Really, truly, crying? It was not something to dwell on, no, not at all. Of course, he wouldn't really be gone, the youma. Sooner or later it'd come back again. They always did..

"Avior, Super Senshi of Walls. Though I didn't really use my powers too much this time.. I kinda, you know, just bashed it with a rock. You have to use what you have, you know?" He smiled back at her, taking her hand to shake it.

"That wasn't too hard, and the kids nearby are safe. All is well again!"

"Oh of course." The last of her tears dried. "Glad that everything's back in order. That youma seemed pretty strange though." She wondered if Avior knew and ignored the truth of youma origin. Maybe he learned more about the past than her? Something to offset youma origins? Something to make fighting them feel right? "Hopefully there'll come a day when we won't have to fight at all."

She started toward the playgrounds.

"Walls, you say? That could be useful. For zoning in enemies, blocking them out..." Walls seemed like a powerful sphere indeed. "I make things shimmer. It's pretty cute, I guess, but it can make fighting difficult."

She didn't mind though. She grew attached to her magic. It seemed sweet. Comforting. Pleasant.

"Are you alright? Did some of that dust get into your eyes? Don't worry, soon enough it will be gone." He looked up at her, smiling, though still making a bit of a face. "Yeah, one day. One day we could power down for good. And just be normal again, right?"

"Shimmering, dazzling, mystifying.. All good distractions. Sometimes that's all you need to win a fight, I've learned.." His sphere could keep things out, or keep things in. It allowed him to bound over the highest of heights, and catch those who fall. He had learned to love his power too. Unlike others, it had never KILLED anyone.

"I'll be going on my way then. Still a ways to get back to where I was before. Good luck with the rest of your day."

"Maybe!" Medea pointed her cell at Avior, saving him into the database. "Might be nice to keep the powers though!" She waved goodbye to her hero and started in the direction of the chuckling kids.

Another day, another youma, another crying session.

Would it ever grow easier?

Probably not.

Behind a tree, she powered down and stepped into the world as Ruthie. Human, gentle, analytical, flirtatious Ruthie.

Nothing to see, ladies and gentlemen.
