Nguvu's heart and mind was set aflutter. The recent events, including the new Inselelo's introduction, had put him into rather a different mindset than the one he was used to.
He had been a part of the pride for a few months now, and was expected to soon sire some cubs, surely. It was part of his duty as a large and strong male to provide a female with an equally strong family and litter.
How could he manage this if most of the females turned their nose up at him?
It didn't matter, however, because Nguvu, although it was his duty, was not one to mate for the sake of mating. He had a deep rooted feeling of family and respect. It was a feeling he doubted would go away.
The pale lion sat near to the border, his eyes scanning the horizon.
This was what he did on most days.

It was out and about that the pale lioness noticed the equally-pale Inslelo. She found a spot to hide for a moment, watching him with fascination. She did rather admire his coat... The words of the other lionesses came back to her, and she thought deeply about them. None of them really wanted to have the cubs of an untested male.. The idea had wormed its way into her brain, though, between Mhisani being of new blood and Nguvu only having two siblings in the pride, and the fact that the top Umholi was related to... A lot of the pride... He was, after all, the son of a previous Umholi.
Mhisani made up her mind, stepping out behind Nguvu with a smile. "Hello, Nguvu."

"Mhisani!"
The pale lion was so used to looking for threats on the outside, beyond the borders, that he had never considered what or who could be behind him.
Nguvu recognised her voice, she seemed a nice and well, pretty lioness, and he had noticed her stick up for him once or twice, so she certainly stuck in his mind.
He turned around but kept one side facing the borders. It was his duty to protect the pride, and if he was chatting and someone took him by surprise, he would be ashamed.
"Lovely day, isn't it?"
Being alone a lot of the time hadn't made him the best at small talk, he could admit that.

The lioness couldn't help but smile, walking over and sitting bin the Inslelo. "I see my hunting skills work even on lions! I could have pounced you!" Her ears flicked as she looked around, feeling as attentive as Nguvu. "So, when you were in the roguelands... Did you ever find out about other prides?" She'd seen many in her time in the roguelands, but this one had appealed to her the most. It was a good place to make a new start, start a new line... Especially since males rotated out and only the strongest got to breed. When she eventually had cubs, her daughters would be taught to be good huntresses like herself, able to sneak up on a patrolling male.

Nguvu let out a deep chuckle and moved a little closer to the lioness.
"You could have pounced me?!" He said half in disbelief. "Well, Don't let anyone hear you saying that." He joked.
"Perhaps you just possess extraordinary hunting skills." He looked at her paws with a smile.
Wait, what. What was he saying? He cleared his throat and eased himself into a most casual sitting position.
"I did, I heard of many. I visited some borders." Nguvu kept one eye carefully on the horizon. "There were many different places, but .. I don't know... I couldn't find anywhere I belonged to, not like I do here."
"This is home to me, Mhisani, It always will be." He looked at her very seriously for a moment, before giving her a gentle smile.

She placed a paw on her chest. "Of course I could! I just went easy on you, is all!" Of course, not all males would take being snuck up on and pounced on by a lioness as kindly as Nguvu was... So she'd have to tell her daughters to mind WHO they did that to.
Her ears turned a bit red on the edges, and her cheeks took on a reddish hue, as he complimented her hunting skills. "Oh... Why thank you!"
She settled down, tucking her legs under herself as she listened to him, tilting her head. A small frown soon replaced the smile. "You'll have to leave again eventually, though... But until then..." Her smile returned. "You're welcome here, even if some of the other lionesses don't think you SHOULD be!" She didn't really care WHAT the other lionesses said. Nguvu was worth having around, something only his sisters seemed to agree with her on. "You protected us from a CROCODILE, even if you didn't know we'd be there before you did it!"

The fact that he would have to leave again entered his mind all the time. He had sisters here, he had lost his home once and he would lose it again.
He knew it was tradition, and that it was the way of life here, but he doubted he would ever find anywhere outside that would be the same for him. Maybe it was just because he was born here.
Nguvu let out a gentle sigh and edged a little closer to Mhisani. The big and powerful Inselelo could be such an emotional sort at times, and it wasn't something he was willing to broadcast.
"It's nice to here that some welcome me, I know everyone's view won't always be the same." He chuckled.
"The crocodile thing... ah yes, my famous act." He thought back to that joyous moment of setting his eyes on his old pride once more.
"Aside from my duties and the comfort of being in my old home, I don't really know what else I could or should do." He confided in Mhisani.
He had become perhaps, a little restless.

The lioness smiled a bit, finding a simple joy in knowing she was one of the ones who approved of his presence... And that the news made HIM happy, in turn. She then frowned a bit at his questioning of what else he could or should do. "Well... When you eventually have to leave... You could always go find MY birth pride..." She motioned in the direction that the sun and moon tended to set. "It's a couple months' journey in that direction. It's somewhat similar to the Ithambo, but they don't run the males out when they grow up. They're encouraged to stay and help defend the pride, while the lionesses hunt." She smiled at memories of home. "It's rather nice, really, a place to live... They have their own superstitions and the like, of course... If you had a blue mane..." Her nose wrinkled. "I'm sorry to say, but I'll never touch a lion with bird colors on them. Purple? Pink? Green or blue? NOT colors a lion should be!" Before Mhisani had left home, a lioness had been sent away when she'd grown to adolescence. Nothing had been WRONG with her personality, but her tail had been bright blue, something the pride didn't condone. So away she'd gone.

He narrowed his eyes in confusion. He had never considered the possibility that other lions in the pride had not been born into it. He supposed it was easier for a female to find her place in the Ithambo than it was males. Maybe Nguvu had been a little narrow-minded in his thinking. Either way, he showed great curiousity in Mhisani's past.
"Well, maybe I will!" He offered enthusiastically. Nguvu couldn't help but wonder why Mhisani left, if it was such a great place.
"If you don't mind me asking, why did you leave such a place? I am grateful that you ended up here though." He slipped the compliment in at last minute, to avoid causing offence to the lioness.
He followed it up with a more thought-out genuine one, though.
"It's someone like you who would make me want to stay here as long as I could." But, as Mhisani had her views and superstitions about colours, he had his understanding of the way of life here, and when his term was over, he would leave with all the respect in the world.

Zohwhee Oh geeze, I had a reply half-typed, and then Gaia had its FIT where everything went down and I lost it in the process, and only just found the time and brain to redo it :< The lioness gave a bit of an impassive shrug, waving a paw. "I was related to a few too many lions, for one... It's so isolated, few rogues actually JOIN, so the few boys that aren't related to me... End up not being of my liking. Plus... The king was killed by his brother, who took the throne and then ran the heir off. I didn't like how he was running things, so it sealed it and I left. Then I found the Ithambo."
She blushed, smiling slightly. "Aw, Nguvu... Thank you! That does mean a lot..." She glanced back toward the rest of the pride. "Some of the lionesses don't much like me just because I'm unrelated... So I suppose we're in somewhat similar rivers as to why they don't like us. Being such a light color doesn't help, either, when they favor dark.."

"I like the light colour of your pelt." He said simply.
When she spoke of her old home he nodded intensely. "I can see why that could be a problem. Isolation isn't great." He looked off into the distance for a second.
What was he going to do when he left? What if he did have cubs?
He shook his head, visibly, shaking the thoughts from his head.
"I am glad we are in similar rivers. Sometimes it takes someone in a similar situation to understand, I suppose."
He felt a part of him was becoming too emotionally attached to his home-pride. Perhaps it would be very hard to leave after all.
Maybe he should make his mark.
"Mhisani, I would very much like to not spend the rest of my time here as alone as I could be." He widened his eyes and gave her a gentle smile.
He was sure that if he was out of line, she would not hesitate to knock him back.

She blushed at his compliment, a smile on her face. "Thank you, I like the paleness of yours, too..." And the spots. She couldn't help but lean on him a bit. "Understanding is--" She stopped with his next line, coat taking on a reddish tinge on more than her cheeks. She looked at him, then smiled. "I wouldn't mind helping you with that..."
