It was the end of Nicole's shift when she found herself riding her bike back to a similiar location. She had done her duty for the city but she had other duties to do. No, tonight was not a night she planned on powering up into Svartalfheim. While it might have been one if her other duties, she had business to attend to from her last trip over here as Svartalfheim.
She was the place she'd gone to power up where she'd witnessed Alfheim ******** his knee up real good. Nearby, she retraced her steps from her motorcycle in the opposite direction toward where Noah's apartment was. She believed that it was her duty to check up on the man and assure that he was healing properly. If he wasn't, she'd have to make sure he went to the hospital!
It didn't take long, exponentially shorter than her trip helping Noah walk home, before she was at the familiar elevator. She thought back to the night, her eyes looking at the elevator buttons meticulously, before she pressed the button for the ninth floor. Behind her was the spot Noah leaned against before and with him gone she was free to use that to rest her arms upon it. It was a relatively short ride up but it did give her enough time to attempt to remember the apartment number.
After making her way to his apartment door she knocked on it firmly, waiting to see if anyone answered.

There was an audible groan from inside. Noah had decided doctors were overrated and prescribed himself with downtime and plenty of ice to get through his little mobility rough patch. Maybe it was just because he desperately wanted and needed downtime otherwise.
But a knock on the door meant he had to get up. He didn't even have a barking dog to scare them off anymore.
He forced himself up and limped his way over to the door, needing to lean on it for support once it was open.
He didn't mean to, but his wince from the short trip from couch to door was still on his face when he looked at her. "Oh... hey Nicole."

The picture of Noah standing there in the door with his weight against it to support himself and the wince on his face, Nicole immediately had suspicions on whether or not he actually went to the hospital after she left. Her face didn't display anger as much as it did regret in the form of a meek smile and slightly lifted brows. She should have taken him there herself. She could have gone home and gotten the car to take him there.
"You didn't go to the hospital, did you?" She said as her glance fell to his leg and then back to his face.

Noah's wince turned into a full on cringe. "Well... no. It just needs a little ice. And rest. I could use some rest."
He hadn't had a vacation since he opened his place! Though, the fact he was counting laying on the couch injured and immobile a vacation was sad in itself.
"You didn't need to come here to check up on me, I'm not a child." But he was too weak to stand on his leg this long and after a spasm that left it shaking beneath him, let the door go to fall back in a chair to avoid falling back on the floor.

Nicole didn't look very impressed by his answer. She shifted her weight and sighed. "Artificial implants won't heal though. If you broke something, you'll need to get it repaired." She wasn't insane, although by definition she was getting pretty close to insanity by thinking the result here was going to change if she kept doing it. If he didn't want to go to the hospital he probably never would unless she knocked him out and dragged him there.
Sure, it was an option but assault and kidnapping wouldn't be good for her promotion.
"I was just concerned..." she said, looking to the side only to watch him stumble back. She moved quickly, throwing her weight forward to catch him. Thankfully her action wasn't necessary and instead he fell back into a chair.
At this point the door was almost closed from the force he put on it from letting it go suddenly. She glanced back to it and then casually pressed her palm against it to fully close it all the way.
"Well, at least you can stand now," she stated factually although she just seemed to be trying to convince herself not to drag him to the hospital. She sighed a bit, shifting her weight again before her hand went through the partially shaved area on her head. She moved toward him, leaning over him in the chair.
"How much does it hurt?"

"I know..." Noah said with a groan and a sigh, one hand keeping a firm grip on his leg in an attempt to stop any twitching or spasms.
His teeth were actually still grit with pain when he shrugged and smirked at her. "No, feels like a bundle of kittens these days."
He at least recognized he was being kind of a jerk and tried to unwind. People often lashed out when they were in intense pain. Apparently lashing out for Noah was some mild pouting and sarcasm.
"Ugh, I'm sorry, I'm just... I'm not coping well."

It was painful for Nicole to simply stand here and watch him in this state and the sarcasm at least brought a smile to her face. At least if he was in unbearable pain he wasn't even going to bother with such trivialities such as sarcasm.
"Last bundle of kittens I held attacked me. I suspect cats don't appreciate the law." Or maybe they were just feral.
"Hey, don't worry about it. Maybe I can get you another beer?" She said, looking at the fridge. Was it still as neat as it was last time she was here or was that truly a magical dimension to another plain? It was such a beautiful sight!

"Okay..." Noah still looked fairly pained, but he could do with a companion to chat with and bring him beer.
At the very least she could distract him from the unpleasantness. And of course. Of course it was. Noah's kitchen, professional and personal, was always immaculate. The rest of the house? That could wait, but the kitchen was important.
People had to eat there, you know?
"So do you hunt terrorists by day and then go pretend to be one by night?" Hey, conversation was distracting too.

Nicole had leaned in to pick up one the beers from the fridge when Noah sprung the bomb. It would have taken a second to grab the beer, ten tops if she suddenly found herself lost in the wonder that was Noah's fridge but instead she didn't pull away at all. She simply stared at the beer as if it would solve all the problems of the world, or create some new ones that would erase the current ones. She stared at it for answers, or simply to avoid looking at Noah.
Inside the fridge, the sound of bottles being moved could be heard. She would pull one out and then replace it with the one beside it until finally she stopped with a sigh. Finally withdrawing from the fridge with two beers, purple eyes located at Noah as her body moved over to him.
"I got tired," she said, putting the two beers on the floor beside Noah and taking a seat nearby.
"How the city views the 'terrorists' is almost entirely defined by the media and given that 'terrorists' are at large constantly without any real breaks in the case it is easy to guess my department was really going no where. Every lead we got would end up disappearing without a trace," she paused, laughing a bit, "Who would have guessed it was teleportation, huh?"
There was an uneasy smile on her face as Nicole shifted her elbow from one arm to another as she leaned in.
"Undercover is the best way to answer the question. If this city is having a private war and if only those involved truly know what is happening then there is only one way to find out the truth. If I can just find out I could do so much good for the city... you know?" She said, her voice drowning out at the end as she asked him a question. She could save so many people if she could just find out what was going on and what was happening.

Noah's brow furrowed a bit as he listened to her talk, and took one of the beers in silence.
"I guess I can understand being tired." Hell, he'd beaten a youma to dust in self defense before he got his powers, and he still descended into an inconsolable rage when he felt enough like helpless youma food to be mentally transported back in time to when he was just a civilian trying to survive.
"Wait, who teleports?" He was not good at investigating his surroundings, oops.
He popped the top off the beer and took a deep swig as he thought over how little he knew, and how much of that was because of laziness, and how much was a legitimate mystery to solve. How much good could he do if he just... tried?
Instead he opted to joke. "So since I've gone and revealed all my secrets to an undercover agent, am I going to end up handcuffed any time soon? He asked with a smirk.

Every single time the two of them got together somehow things just got awkward enough that things broke into jokes. This time was no different apparently because after Noah joked about handcuffs the only thing Nicole could say instead of no was a joke.
"Is that something you're interested in? I'm sure we could give it a go," she said with a light laugh, leaning backwards.

"It could be. I'll try anything once, and I'm obviously too weak to fight back," Noah smirked, before taking a deep swig and leaning forward.
"Does being a knight make you uncomfortable or something? There's nothing wrong with it... I think. This is just how we are." He rolled his shoulders in a stretch of a shrug. "I'm told it's a family thing."
He sure hoped there was nothing wrong with that. He'd hate to think he was born into a family of ~evil~ or something.
"My wonder is creepy as hell, though."

The palm of Nicole's hand briefly met the front of her face as she hit the top of her forehead, the corner of her eye looking at Noah as her lips curved a bit more than previously. It could be fun, you know? Noah wasn't entirely terrible to look at. With a sigh, the idea slipped out of her mind as he brought the knighthood into it. The hand that had settled on the top of her head slid down the front of her face.
Family thing? It might have been a little straightforward for Noah but Nicole had been adopted. Her family, the family that had adopted and raised her, were the kindest family anyone could have ever asked for. Unbelievably loving, although a little overbearing when it came to her personal life, were more than she could have ever asked for. But her blood ties, they were something completely different. While for certain she could say undeniably that her family was the furthest thing from evil, there was nothing good she could say about her birth parents. They very well could be evil, and did that make her evil by blood? Was Svartalfheim evil? The city would agree.
An uneasy face presented itself in front of Noah before it shifted back to a suspicious smile.
"I am fairly certain mine is a prison with gallows and everything," she said with a light laugh. She didn't think his could be nearly as creepy.

Her face did nothing to convince him she was okay and not uncomfortable, and he honestly looked concerned over it. He didn't like his family or how they figured into his grand destiny. But he liked being a knight, and was readily accepting of the fact it was part of who he was.
He felt pity, and tried to imagine being so uncomfortable with one's self.
"I-- oh... well." Prison was different. "Mine is a few towers in a field of flowers." And that sounded incredibly fluffy compared to prison and public execution.

There was nothing to stop Nicole from laughing when Noah admitted what his wonder was like. Her lack of belief in his wonder being creepier than hers was proven to be true and by an impossibly wide margin. In the scheme of things, a field of flowers was probably the furthest from creepy there was. Any amount of composure she might have had as an officer of the law was gone almost instantly. Uncertainty and discomfort? Gone? All that was left was laughter. Laughter with such intense zeal that she fell to the floor.
Oh God, it hurt. It hurt to laugh. She could feel it all the way in the pit of her stomach as her hands found their place there. She needed to stop, she needed to say something but there were no words. None. She couldn't stop laughing. It probably wasn't that funny but she just couldn't stop. It was probably the most fun she'd had since she ate a raspberry pie.
