The last weekend of summer was a time that most children would make sure they spent as far away from the library as possible but Ainsley thought it was the perfect time to go. Who wanted to play outside in the hot sun where all the children were screaming when you could sit inside a nice, quiet library in the air conditioning? Certainly not Ainsley. She ran around most nights, she didn't need to run around during the day too.
Instead of reading a storybook, Ainsley had several astronomy and Greek mythology books with her. Given all of the trips to her asteroid she'd taken, it was not a surprise she was interested in learning about the objects in the sky. In the same similarity, Hypnos was curious about the mythologies that shared a name with her and other senshi. What came first? Them or the stories? Were they name after the characters in the story or were the characters in the stories named after them? Perhaps people of Earth had mistaken a senshi of sleep, given their powers, as a God of Sleep.
It was all so interesting!
The one book she currently had over her lap was a huge visual book with beautiful pictures and facts across them.

"There never seems to be enough books about birds to read..." Perenna thought as she carried her latest stack of readings. She had checked out several books from the library last weekend and she had already finished them all. Some of those books were even read once before; Perenna only really knew an abundance of bird-related books.
After returning her stack of books to the slots, she went to the young adult section of the library. Nearby, she could see what other books kids around her age was reading. Some of them were large chapter books and all she could see were words, but others, like a girl with tannish-brown hair sitting and reading an astrology book. "Hmm... I wonder how good of a read those kinds of books are?"
Perenna had thought of wandering off from her normal books, but part of her was scared. Would she find a book that she would like? What if they had things that girls her age were not supposed to know yet? She shivered slightly at the thought of reading those kind of books by accident. Her mother had warned her once after she picked one up by accident and Perenna definitely didn't want that happening again.
She found the astrology section of the young adults area. Her finger lingered above the books, but her uncertainty about how the books would be made her stand there and just look kind of dumb.

Ainsley had finished looking at the book that was in her lap so she did the polite thing and took it with her back to the library shelves. There she waited for the girl in front of her to move, watching as she seemed to be having difficulty with choosing a book. Her head tilted to the side a bit to see if there was anything in particular Perenna was looking at before she pipped in.
"Do you need any help?"

"Hmm.. Maybe this one... Well no... This one sounds interesting..." Perenna hadn't noticed the other girl approaching her while her mind was busy at work trying to decipher what would be a good book. Sure, there was the 'never judge a book by its cover' rule, but that just made it more confusing. "Maybe a worn cover means a lot of people have looked at it," she mumbled under her breath.
When the girl spoke to her, Perenna withdrew a little with a shy smile. "Well... I... Uhm..." Perenna was unsure if she needed help, per se, but it would be better than nothing right? "Well, normally I just read stories about birds, but I decided to explore today, but not exactly sure what to explore..."
Perenna pointed in the direction of the books she was used to. "They're all over there. I think it was when I saw you reading an astronomy book that made me wander over here instead."

Ainsley looked at the girl carefully, smiling softly at her shy smile and nervous demeanor. She normally read bird books? Ainsley couldn't help but wonder why the change of heart. She didn't have to wait very long to find out though and immediately a small flush appeared on her face. She was the change of heart? The book she had been reading in her arms, she squeezed slightly.
"Birds huh?" She said, thinking for a moment. "Did you know there is a dove and swan constellation? This book said so! Maybe you'd like it?"

Perenna spent a lot of the time looking down at the ground, only glancing up at the girl a few moments at a time. She was embarrassed at what she had told a complete stranger, but the truth was a good thing! At least now she was getting help.
Her interest piqued at the mention of a dove and swan constellation. "I didn't know that! Well, I knew it was possible, but never really learned about them. I'd definitely be interested in looking though!"
She paused just a bit before speaking again, having come up with an idea. "Would you like to look through it with me? I mean... I don't know how many times you've looked through the book, but maybe you can point out those interesting things to me? It would be fun to know what you like too!"
Perenna had been getting a bit loud and was hushed by a nearby librarian. Flushed red, she mouthed sorry to the librarian and turned back to the girl.

Ainsley was about to hand the book over to Perenna when she said she was interested but paused, drawing the book back to her own arms, when Perenna asked if Ainsley wanted to join her. There her face brightened and she smiled back to Perenna. She had looked at this book quite a few times but she'd never looked at it with this girl.
"I'd be honoured. We can sit over here with my other books, if you want. My name is Ainsley, may I be so bold as to ask you what your name is?"

When the girl's face brightened at her proposal, Perenna couldn't help herself but be happy as well. She was really glad to have someone to explore new books with, even if she was the one exploring 'new' territory.
"That makes me really happy, and I'd love to sit down with you and your books." Perenna nodded with her words, a habit of hers whenever she spoke and felt something was 'good' or 'right'.
Perenna took out her hand, like her parents had taught her. "Sorry for not introducing myself earlier. My name is Perenna. It's very nice to meet you, Ainsley!"
"I'm so excited to be learning about birds and stars combined. Now it makes me wonder what other things I can combine with birds." She smiled slightly to herself, thinking about the energy phoenix that she could create as Aldebaran.

Ainsley's hand reached out for Perenna's but instead of holding her hand like a handshake she held it out with the palm of her hand facing down in a fashion that she deemed much more lady-like. She smiled gently at Perenna and lead her over to where she had some books piled up. There were a few astronomy books but there were also Greek Mythology books mixed with them.
"You could look through some of these mythology books too. I bet there are ots of myths involving birds," she seemed happy to have some company at least, sitting back down where she had been before shuffling over to make room for Perenna.

Perenna was a bit confused at first at Ainsley's gesture, but slowly put her hand on top of Ainsley's. The confusion cleared up as her hand was taken and she was guided to Ainsley's pile of books. "Oh... That makes sense!" She felt a little bit ashamed not knowing what that meant, but at least she did now.
When the got to the pile, Perenna couldn't help herself but look through the books at the stack. There were more books about stars, and some mythology ones. "Those look cool," she whispered to Ainsley.
She took a side step to the further side of the book pile, allowing Ainsley to sit where she had sat before. Perenna was excited to learn more about birds, but she wanted to learn more about Ainsley too! "What's your favorite book from these? And why?"

Ainsley was fairly quiet but she kept a smile on her face as she shuffled through the books, looking for a particular one to show to Perenna. She knew it was in there somewhere and after a moment of moving several of the books into a new pile she found it there and pulled it out. It was a fairly thick book, an encyclopedia of mythology. Inside it had information on the mythological Gods of Legend from Greek to African.
"This one is particularly informative," she said softly before setting it down in favour of one of the astronomy books. "This one is pretty though. It has many images of the solar system."
