** Alrighty, hold your horses now! Anything and everything in this thread (including this message because I just went and changed it) has the potential to be changed or added to. Considering how there is A LOT of text for you to read, I don't really want you to read something and then go back to read it again because of a minor change. So, please, wait patiently until the thread is officially open and accepting before reading and applying!
[creation of this rp is now on hold, since i'm trying to adjust to a new school as of now continued, though it will be painfully slow so bear with it.]**
M♔ Marionettes have been used as tools for battles and wars since a long way back in time. No, we aren't talking about marionettes who hang from several strings and are controlled via those strings. We are talking about marionettes who strongly resemble human beings, and have the ability to fight in battles, via magic. They are brought to life with just a tiny bit of mana from their future master or puppeteer, and they feed on the constantly regenerating mana to stay alive. The keyword in that sentence was special. You see, not everyone has the ability to use magic, and marionettes that are alive are considered magical creatures. Without the source of mana in their souls, humans are not able to control and bring marionettes to life with their mana. Ones who are blessed with the ability to control marionettes are given the title as puppeteer, while there are many other titles that rank the abilities and skills of a puppeteer.
M♔ Because so, puppeteers of all rankings are required to attend puppeteering school during their adolescence. Because puppeteers will be sent out to fight when necessary with their marionettes, engaging in battles is encouraged and is in fact the way that all students learn. There are very, very few schools that educate and train puppeteers, but we will be focusing on one of them: Academy for Puppeteers and Puppets (APP). During classes, students are paired up to battle, to strengthen their bond with their marionettes and to strengthened themselves. The stronger the bond, the stronger the flow of mana between the magical marionette and the human. And the stronger the pair is the higher they'll rise on the rankings.

M♔ ROLEPLAY RULES
➀ Follow the Gaia ToS!
➁ Follow the guild rules!
➂ Follow the roleplay rules!
➃ No, you don't have to follow the school rules! DUN DUN DUNNNNN!! (But, I guess, good students will have to.)
➄ Because this is in the semi-lit (or as some people call it lazy lit), a requirement of at least 1 paragraph is necessary. Text talk and one liners are not acceptable here, and if you're going for something near that, I recommend seeking for casual roleplays.
➅ Send profiles to me, and put "marionette" as the title as it's easier for me to tell apart from my other pms. It's also a bit of a hint for me to tell that you've read the rules up until this point!
➆ I reserve the right to amend or add rules. Any rule below this point is an addition.
➇ Keep the drama in character and out of character! I will start flipping all your tables if you start a senseless argument in the oocs. Meanwhile, stir up as much drama as you want in character, but make sure not to take it personally because it's your character that involved in the drama—NOT YOU!
M♔ MARIONETTES 101
➀ Marionettes are more often made with ivory, but some are made with clay and are much prone to easy damage if they cannot absorb enough mana to heal on time.
➁ Marionettes only feed on the same mana that brought them to life, from the same person. Hence, a marionette is with their puppeteer until death do they part.
➂ Marionettes die off if their puppeteer dies off, because they longer have a source of mana to connect to. However, puppeteers do not die off if marionettes do. Puppeteers may adapt to a new marionette, but they will have to build a bond with their new marionette and start all over again. Their mana flow, or amount of mana, stays the same.
➃ Marionettes can be of all sizes. The bigger and stronger they are, however, the more mana they need to survive. But, of course, the source of mana within humans get larger if the marionettes prove to need more mana.
➄ One may have more than one marionette. Though it is highly discouraged and not recommended because the natural flow of mana might be disrupted between the marionettes that feed on one's mana. Also, it has been proven rather difficult to keep two marionettes happy and satisfied long enough at the same time for a strong bond to be built.
➅ Humans and marionettes may sometimes be incompatible. If the mana flow from the human's source of mana is too big for the marionette take, the marionette has a high chance of being overwhelmed and going out of control. This often happens when a marionette dies and a puppeteer tries to get accustomed to a marionette that cannot take the massive amount of mana from the puppeteer. That is one way of being incompatible. Another way is incompatibility in personality and strength. A marionette may be absorbing too much mana from its puppeteer, causing the puppeteer to lose mana too quickly and be endangered. Incompatibility in personality is by far the most common type, and if the pair does not get along due to personality differences, they will never get far.
➆ Marionettes are controlled through thoughts. Marionettes can hear commands during battles, but only commands. They cannot hear any other personal thoughts. This feature allows marionettes and puppeteers to fight without the need to speak to one another.
➇ Though marionettes are quite expensive to make, for the sake of the country, those blessed with the power and potential to become a puppeteer is granted an education as well as a marionette for free, with the only cost being to fight for the country when necessary.
➈ In terms of a marionette battle, the puppeteer that gets injured loses first. Even losing a single strand of hair will declare you the losing party. A draw is decided if both parties get injured at the same time, or if the the battle passes the time limit of 5 minutes. However, when battling in a war, none of these rules apply. Why? Because it's war—nobody cares about rules when you're fighting to the death. The rules are merely set to prevent heavy injuries on both parties.
M♔ SCHOOL RULES
➀ If you are engaged to a battle, please consult a teacher and ask them to supervise while watching over the fight to ensure limited injuries.
➁ Night Hours (or, more commonly known as curfew outside of APP) is at 10:00PM, and all electricity and lights will be turned off. They are turned back on at 6:00AM. During the Night Hours, boys are not to be in the girls' territory and girls are not to be in the boys' territory in the dormitories. Also, during the Night Hours, students are advised to stay in their dorms at all times because even being outside on the school campus will be dangerous as the barrier is deactivated during the Night Hours.
➂ Do not ever venture outside of campus, as the campus is surrounded by wildlife and it is very easy to get lost. Wild animals are prevented from entering the campus, with a magical barrier created by the principal's marionette. However, by leaving the campus, you are exposing not only yourself to danger but your fellow classmates as well by disrupting the barrier and causing it to weaken.
➃ Winners of a battle are granted 10 points, and losers of a battle has 10 points deducted. Draws grant both parties 5 points. From the beginning of the school year to the end, a puppeteer is required to earn at least 1,300 points to move onto the next grade. A puppeteer will never be expelled under any circumstances, because it will mean there is one less soldier, but privileges may be stripped and suspension or repeating a year may be in order.
➄ On your first day of school, you will head to the marionette storehouse to pick out the marionette that you will stick with for possibly the rest of your life. Choose wisely, and do not falter. If it happens that you are incompatible with your marionette, please report to a staff member and have them direct you to the principal's office, where she could do away with your marionette personally. Afterwards, you may head back over to the marionette storehouse to pick out a new marionette.
➅ Do not ever skip training or classes, unless you are given a pass. For any hours, minutes, or seconds missed out on training or classes, you will have to make them up during holidays and vacation breaks.
➆ There will be no harassing the teachers, other students, or marionettes. Teachers and students are prohibited to be in an intimate relationship.
➇ Do not break the rules of marionette battling, as that will land you in a lot of trouble as well as a deduction of 100 points! And, depending on the level of the rule breaking, lowering you down by one or several ranks might be necessary as punishment.
➈ Do not break marionettes—your own, or someone else's! They are very expensive, and the only one who will be allowed to kill them would be the principal. You will not be paying for one if you kill them, but you will have to bear with a removal of 500 points as well as being lowered down a rank.
M♔ NOTES
➀ Age has nothing to do with the school year. Everybody begins at year one, and their ages may vary. However, they are all adolescents. One begins their education (if they're already an adolescent) the moment they notice they have a mana source. Either that, or they begin once they hit the beginning of adolescence, if they noticed their powers before they hit adolescence.
➁ Everybody gets their marionette on their first day. That being said, everybody starts at the bottom of the ranking ladder.
➂ NPCs can be controlled by anyone, as long as you make sure that some other character isn't interacting with them in another location! We wouldn't want doubles, would we? Also, please make sure that NPCs are in character if you want to include them in your posts! Sterkenburg being flirty and childish sure isn't happening anytime soon, just as an example.
➃ A source of mana is often genetics, though it isn't very common. For there to be only even just 50% chance of having an offspring with a source of mana, both parents will have to be a bearer of a source of mana as well. However, the stronger the source of mana that the parents have, the higher the chance will be. Because of this reason, many people with a source of mana are often forced to breed together to create more people with a source of mana.

M♔ THE SCHOOL CAMPUS
➀ The lobby
— The lobby is located in the main building. It is where the bulletin board is located. The bulletin board is used for advertising or announcements of any sorts.
➁ The classroom(s)
— Classrooms are lined up in the hallways in the main building. They are usually only used for homeroom and other few classes that doesn't require fighting.
— Located in one building that exists solely for the mess hall and the kitchen that the kitchen staff uses. A huge selection of food from different cultures are served as breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert, according to schedule. (Of course, with that, the prices range from low to high as well.) Announcements will be made through the P.A. System when it is time for food. Snacks and drinks are sold in vending machines, and the variety among choices is incredible.
➃ Fighting Arena A.K.A. Training Grounds
— An arena that students should be using for battles inside and outside of classes. During classes, paired students take turns and battle each other with their marionettes while others sit and watch. Fighting is not allowed anywhere else besides the arena.
➄ The library
— From encyclopedias to novels to light novels, the library has it all! There is a huge selection of books for every genre, making sure students won't be bored during their stay at APP.
➅ The Garden / Courtyard
— Located just almost right next to the library, it is a nice place to just relax and read your newly borrowed book! It is also the ideal place for meeting up with a friend.
➆ The dormitories
— A building that is split into two sides. One side (the left side) belongs to the girls, while the other side (the right side) belongs to the boys. Marionettes and puppeteers share a room together. While that is only for the students, there is another building right beside it that is reserved for the APP staff to reside in. It is also split into two sides, though the rules of the students' dorm don't apply.
➇ Principal's Office
— The place you never ever want to be! You will be directed to the principal's office if you violate the rules, or need a new marionette.
➈ The Forest
— A very dangerous place that students are discouraged from entered. It is what surrounds the academy, so that the place is not easily found by outsiders. Many students engage in battles here without teachers' supervision, although it is considered a violation of the rules.
➉ The Nurse's Office
— When you or a marionette is injured, you will be delivered or directed to the nurse's office for healing. This is also where you want to be visiting if you want a guidance counsellor's opinion.
M♔ THE NPCS
➀ Tifana Hildebrand :: Kitchen Staff ("Maid")
— A sweet lady who is part of the kitchen staff! She is good-willed and humorous. She might have no special powers, but she is quite special in the eyes of the students!
❝ What is it that you want to eat? We have many selections! ❞
➅ Yksel Jahnn :: Kitchen Staff ("Butler")
— A cheerful and hyper young man who is very popular among most of the female students at APP. He s incapable of magical abilities, but he is still living the prime years of his life being surrounded by wonderful people!
❝ What'd you like to eat today, my princess? ❞
➁ Astrid Zxes :: The Principal
— The principal, renowned for her amazing abilities and skills in puppetry. She has a looong streak of wins, and is rumored to be invincible in terms of puppetry! By far, nobody has been able to prove that theory wrong. She is a strange woman, with a wicked and weird sense of humor (a bit on the perverted side). She is a bit childish, but she can be very serious when it comes to important matters. She's intelligent and quick witted; truly the best of the best among puppeteers.
❝ It's Astrid Zxes—Remember it! ❞
➂ Pamela Ibis :: The Principal's Marionette
— The principal's marionette has been with her ever since her education began, which was a long time ago! They're the bestest of friends and partners! Together, they've overcome many things, and now they're undefeatable, standing at the very top. She is sophisticated and feminine, yet so sneaky and mad underneath her cover. She specializes in shadow magic, which she uses while distracting the opponent. Her weapon is a magical staff, which she stashes away underneath her massive dress...
❝ Oh, we'd better not become acquaintances or anything of the like! It'll be hurtful for you when I kick your a**. ❞
➃ Esty Erhard :: Student Teacher
— Having graduated as the top student during her years, Esty has been given the title "prodigy" and she is currently studying to become a educator at APP. Because of her arrogant and snobby personalty due to being spoiled with compliments for being overly intelligent, she was incompatible with almost every single marionette she picked out. They had to create a special custom-made marionette for her.
❝ Of course I'm the best! I'm a prodigy, after all! ❞
➄ Filly Erhard :: Student Teacher's Marionette
— Filly was a custom-made marionette. She was made to be an exact copy of Esty's deceased younger sister, inside out! She's a shy being, who gets flustered over the simplest things. She is clumsy and not very close to being intelligent, but she has told herself many times that she will make it if her "sister" is with her.
❝ U-Um... I-I'm trying m-my b-best..! ❞
➆ Haggel Baldness :: The "Puppetsmith"
— Quite the pessimist we have here, which is mainly due to people making fun of his bald head and last name altogether. Though he does not allow it to disturb his making of marionettes. He spends most of his time, creating marionettes, in the marionette workshop which is located right besides the marionette storehouse.
❝ Make fun of my head, and I'll make you eat your words, kiddo. ❞
➇ Sterkenburg Cranach :: Weaponry Educator
— A stern and stoic teacher who doesn't allow any fooling around at all. He is very serious, and the other sides of him are very rare. Despite his cold and almost terrifying demeanor, he is very well-liked among some students. He does not own a marionette because he excels in dealing with weapons. He used to fight in wars and battles with his own body instead of a marionette.
❝ Focus, you fool. ❞
➈ Tantoris :: Magic Educator
— One might be able to say he is the complete opposite of Sterkenburg. He is flamboyant, a total tease, and he enjoys all the attention he receives. He is very easy-going about everything. It is rumored that he used to have a marionette, and had an intimate relationship with it even. But because it had died during a battle, he is now left without a marionette since he refuses to adapt to a new one. His last name is unknown.
❝ Sterkenburg? More like Stern-kenburg, haha! ❞
➉ Piana Helmold :: Guidance Counsellor + Nurse
— Being the guidance counsellor, Piana does her job very well. She gives great advice, and many people seek her when they are in trouble. Despite having a source of mana, she does not have a marionette due to her job as the nurse. Her accessories absorb and store her mana so it doesn't overflow. The stored mana is often used to heal the injuries of marionettes.
❝ I'll hear you out and aid you. ❞
