On the surface:
A man who loves the more beautiful things in life, however he believes beauty is fleeting and is constantly on the move. Socially, he's something of a nightmare; awkward, clumsy, and doing all the wrong things. Because of this he usually keeps his distance from others, though cannot resist the call to take a truly 'photogenic moment'. He hates being indoors, for he feels he doesn't have enough room to move about, and cannot stand to be still for more than a moment or two. Quick on his feet when the time for chores or physical labor comes around, he enjoys observing rather than participating.
But deep down:
Dexter was originally born in Mauville City, a large tourist attraction and a city where excitement could always be found; most of his life he spent outside the Game corner, never truly interested in playing but rather watching other's. It was his mother who got him interested in photography. She didn't find it healthy for a boy his age to spend his time watching others from afar, at least without a true reason. On his tenth birthday he was given his first camera and for an entire month he spent riding around the city on his bike, snapping photos of anything and everything. Of course, things would change-- for the worse-- when he turned twelve. His father decided that he had had enough of the 'city life' and uprooted the family. Originally he had been born in Fallarbor Town, a real country boy, if you may. The man had family back home and it only made sense to him that they move there. So they did, and Dexter has been miserable since. He missed the hustle and bustle of Mauville, and the constant ash falling down from Mt. Chimney-- although beautiful-- was annoying. Since he's constantly on the move he rarely has time to come back home, not that he's all too willing to either. He dreams of becoming a professional Photographer, his pictures famous to all.
