She stood on the line, body straining forward and one hand outstretched desperately. So close, so very close. Faster, she mouthed silently, faster. They were just ahead of the enemy. They could make this a win, but it would be up to Anelie to bring it home for them.
The baton was finally within reach and her hand snapped closed around it. Then she was off, pounding down the track as fast as she could, her tight green braid streaming out behind her. She was aware of the other runner being close on her heels, but she wasn't worried. She was nearly… there!
Anelie crossed the line and slowed her run, ending up with her hands on her knees as she regained her breath. She didn't get much of a chance to recover, because the rest of her team was by her side in seconds, shrieking at each other in excitement.
The finals, they had taken them out. They were the champions!
After some excited group hugs and more sombre handshakes with the losing side, Anelie made her way over to the sidelines to grab her bottle of water.

Leah stood on the sidelines dressed in a cheer uniform, pompoms waving over her head cheering her little heart of for her team. It was mostly football she got to cheer for but today she got to cheer for the schools relay and it was quite a bit more exciting than football. It was a change of pace so to speak. Not only that, most football games were only on Saturdays, which left a whole week of nothing but practice most of the time.
When the green haired girl charged over the finish line and won the race making the team the champions all the cheerleaders did a little good job cheer before they were allowed to break off and run about offering congratulations and victory hugs.
Leah, however, made her way over to the sidelines feeling very thirsty after all her cheering and spotted the girl that had pulled ended the race and helped make them the champions.
"Hey," she said with a huge smile, "Good job out there. That was some race!"

Anelie drank half the bottle and squirted the last bit over her hair, washing away the sweat clinging to her brow. "Thanks..." she said as she brushed damp strands of hair from her face, giving the cheerleader the biggest smile she could muster. "I'm so glad we won. We trained really hard for this." She regarded the other girl for a moment, passing the empty water bottle from one hand to the other. "I don't think we've ever talked. I'm Anelie."

"You're welcome," she said with a huge grin, curly ponytail bouncing as she titled her head back to look at he sky. "It's good your training paid off and I'm glad it didn't rain like he weather said it would because that would have sucked."
She looked back to Anelie when the girl introduced herself and sat down beside the girl, "No probably not. We dont always get to cheer relay, but I've not seen you at school either. I'm Ashleigh, but most people call me Leah or Ash. I think Leah is a nicer nickname though."
Leah kicked her feet for a few moment, "What made you interested in relay. I'm not the fastest runner so I never really though to do it. I'm more good a flips and stuff like that."

“Oh yeah, if it had rained I would have been so mad.” Anelie stretched out her legs to relief a small cramp that was setting in. “I like Leah. It had a nice ring to it.” She took another sip of her drink and then set it aside. “My real name is Anneliese but Anelie is easier.” The only time she ever heard her full name these days was when she was in big trouble. “Well… I wasn't interested at first. But one of my friends invited me to try out for the team and I really loved it. Running is great fun.”

Leah gave a small laugh before she smiled at Anelie liking her nickname. "Yeah Leah's not a common nickname for Ashleigh, but my mom says the nickname suit me and makes sense really, better than Ash. Beside she'd always says I'm not that Ash Ketchup boy and I'm like mom, its Ketchum. Moms ..."
She grinned widely at hearing Anelie's full name, "your name is so pretty. I really like it, sounds like a Princess's name." She giggled at little, "you just need a crown and you're all set."
Leah hopped up, "you're really good at running, real fast. My brother's are fast. Have to be because they play football, basketball, soccer and all those running sports, but not me."
She gave a small pout, "you think I could run fast too one day. Not that cheerleading and gymnastics aren't lots of fun. I love them!"
