"A death rift in Freemarch?" Rynna smirked and slid the blade she had been checking back into its sheath with an audible click. "No problem." And just with that the deal was sealed. The land surrounding the Defiant capitol city had its share of issues but it was easy territory. The wardens liked her well enough so they never impeded her travel through the region. She stood and motion for her mount. The white valmera's ears perked and it watched her for a moment before standing and stretching. Obviously it was time to go.
She climbed into the beasts saddle and they were out of Meridia's main gates in no time. From the crest of the stairs it was easy to spot the rift, the skies around the swirling clouds were growing darker with every moment that passed. "Guess its showtime." As she rode toward it the rift tore open, spilling out all manner of creatures from the plane of death. Even though the rift was a major one she had no reason to fear, having done this hundreds of times before. She let go of her mounts reins opting to guide it with her knees as she reached back for her bow and an arrow. It was easiest to pick off the small ones this way, a couple of shots took most of them down. At least the arrows could be retrieved after the creatures forms evaporated as if they had never been.
The first round was nearly wiped out which meant the second was coming shortly after. She slid out of the saddle so the valmera could more easily fight with her. Pillars of shadow shot down from the rift leaving more death creatures in their wake. The twisted creatures did not belong on Telara, they deserved to remain on the plane of death undisturbed. Just as she did. In that one moment of hesitation she was struck and the blow knocked the bow from her hands. There was barely time to yank her blades from their sheathes to block the next blow coming her way. "You won't catch me off guard again."
She teleported behind the creature and struck it in the back, it howled and wheeled around seeking to rake her with its claws again. What she did not expect was the second creature coming at her from behind, freshly deposited by the rift, and the massive claws that pierced through her back to her chest. Her valmera lept at the second creature, seeking to fend off the attack on its master but it was too late for Rynna. Blood seeped up from the wounds around the creatures claws, her own heart was killing her and at the same time she was essentially suffocating. By the time the creature flung her limp body she was nearly gone. In her last moments- an image of a golden woman swam in her vision. Who was this...and why?
Failure.
She didn't understand, but it was already too late. What....no!
