Eva was tired. Very, very tired. She supposed that that wasn't entirely surprisingly considering the rather harrowing experience she had found herself thrust into, but the girl was eager to curl up in her bed back home (she wasn't sure just when she started referring to Deus Ex as "home" but there it was) and sleep away the next few hours. Or days.

She was that exhausted.

Unfortunately, things were never so easy. Her body had felt incredibly heavy when she finally reached and collapsed onto her bed, though she wasn't sure if that was due to fatigue or the fact she was accustomed to being back in her body. In either case, it was clear that she wouldn't be getting any sleep right away when a number of whispers suddenly flickered through her mind. Cracking open an eye, the girl groaned as she pushed herself into a sitting position. Who...? Something about being a hero, and--oh. Oh, that was right. Hadn't she given up...?

There was another whisper then, clearer this time. Sitting up a little straighter, she stared into the darkness, suddenly on the alert. Chara?

Right here with you. Don't worry.

Taking comfort in the fact that she wasn't completely alone, she stood up and switched on the lights, blue eyes sweeping over her mostly-empty room. There weren't a lot of places that someone--or something--could hide in here, but--there it was again. Only this time, instead of asking her a vague question, it was telling her to do something. Looking uncertain, she considered her options (which was really just...to look or to not look) before tilting her head down to see...

...Her shadow. It was just her shadow. Blinking blankly, the girl crouched down, but as she expected, it didn't change at a--

Woah, it didn't change! It was still standing tall, even when she crouched down! Just as Eva was about to jump back, the edges of the shadow suddenly sharpened, growing solid as it took the shape of an armored figure. Wait a minute--

Suddenly relaxing, she pushed herself back up onto her feet, feeling surprisingly at ease at the voice. Memories...that was right. She had given up a fair number of her memories, hadn't she? It had been necessary at the time, but they had also been promised that they would get them back. Eva was glad that that was indeed the case--

--Eva.

Hm? Surprised by Chara suddenly speaking up she lifted a hand to touch the clip curiously. When the weapon said nothing else, she decided to summon the staff to see what was a wrong--something she probably should have done from the beginning, just to check whether her partner was okay. Sure herself, the bladed staff seemed exactly the same...with the exception of one new addition.

"What is this thing?" Her voice was faintly alarmed as she reached out to touch the lock, rubbing her fingers against the numerous chains and designs that decorated it. Oh geez, was this...? Were these the memories she had had locked away? On closer inspection, she could make out a few of the patterns. A heart, two small figures, a house--they were things that didn't really make a ton of sense to her. Surely they weren't just there for decoration though. And the chains...

...Those were a lot of chains. That was pretty much all she could say on that part.

Whatever the case, she knew that she would have to start finding a way to get rid of this lock and earn the memories back. How was the question, but it was also a question that could wait until a better time to answer...like in the morning, for instance. Feeling her fatigue catch up to her again, she set the pointed end of her staff down on the ground, holding it carefully it her arms as she pressed her cheek against the cool crystal. "You're okay though, Chara? It doesn't hurt or anything, does it?" She murmured aloud, brows knit and voice tinged with concern.

She could feel the presence in her mind shift and then after a moment, the weapon let out a thoughtful hum. No, not at all. I'll be fine...you, though. You need some rest. There was a gentle admonishing tone to the gorgon's voice, one that earned a soft, quiet laugh from her wielder. Sitting back down on the bed, the girl let out a sigh, which was followed shortly after by a yawn. You're right, Eva admitted, switching back to mental speech, I'm ready to pass out for a few, good long hours. She let out a faint laugh as she slipped back into her bed, her eyes sliding shut. Mm, it was nice to be back.

...Too bad, seeing as this was Deus Ex, her peaceful sleep wasn't going to last for long. It was only a brief few hours later that the girl found herself awoken by a number of alarms and a voice over the PA system. As she struggled to throw on an outfit and her coat in her bleary state, the girl let out a long, drawn out sigh.

Good ol' Deus Ex.
