Story
Jehart is a farm boy, raised on hard work and sweet tea. He helps plow the fields, eats his vegetables, and helps his pa bring in the crop come harvest time. It's how he's always lived, and how he always planned to. He didn't have flighty dreams of going to the muggy city, or the exotic lands of other countries. He felt at home on those fields, and in their cozy house. But then... once he was eighteen... everything changed. He changed. He still wanted to stay on the farm, but strange things were happening. Crops were growing faster and bigger than before. The tiller went through the earth like a hot knife through butter. Everything was easier for him, but his father still had to push the till with all his might, and Jehart couldn't understand why. It was as if a being was watching over him, helping him by blessing his crops or himself with strength. Or by asking the very earth to ease his work. But would this help be a blessing, or a curse? After all, everything comes at a price.

1) Whatever is there can be anything you want. An elemental, faerie, a demon, an angel, whatever. Something that can manipulate earth or humans (if you want to be Jehart, that's fine too).

3) Try to make your posts pretty. It doesn't have to be ornate, but a colored post or maybe a picture. Or both. Maybe a little quote in the top/bottom/both

Could you be the devil?


Jehart wiped his brow. The summer sun was beating down on him, and he wistfully thought of some sweet, cold lemonade that would do wonders. He didn't want to take a break just yet, though. He wasn't exerting himself enough to warrant a break at the moment. The till cut through the ground with incredible ease, and his muscles didn't have the familiar ache of a hard day's work. He would wait and keep working for another half hour or so. Then he would have to take a break in order to avoid heat exhaustion. He looked around the field, smiling some. This was home.

He continued working, feeling unease at how the till moved through the earth. before, it would have taken a great deal of effort to till the earth. Now it was as if the earth softened and turned agreeable just for him. Something about it made his stomach twist, unsure if this strange blessing would wind up being a curse in disguise. He didn't know what was making it happen or why, and not knowing anything made him nervous. He didn't know how to deal with this new development, and he wasn't sure how to react. he wanted to know why it was happening... and at what price.

Jehart started in surprise when someone called out to him, but smiled some when he saw that it was someone that looked to be around his age. "If I took a break every time I got a little hot or tired, I wouldn't be a very productive farmer." He responded, stopping for a moment. The comment about his strength nearly made him wince. "Yeah, I'm Jehart. It didn't always move so easy. Only just started doing that." He shrugged, attempting to mask his unease at that fact. "What's your name? I don't think I've seen you around these parts." He said, walking over. The till wasn't going to run away, after all.

Jehart flushed a little at the nickname, the picture of modesty. When the subject of college came up, he shrugged. I don't need to go to college. I'm a farmer. It's what I am and what I've always wanted to be. The best education I can get for being a farmer is what I'm doing now." He smiled. "It's nice to meet you, Tellus. So why would a city boy want to come all the way out here?" He asked curiously. He looked in the direction of his home. "I guess I should take that break now anyways, so we can talk while we go back to the house." He paused. "If you want to stay a bit, I mean."

Jehart listened to him as they walked. "I hope you find your folks soon." He smiled. When his strength was mentioned again, he flushed and rubbed the back of his neck. "No secret, really. Just hard work and healthy eating. Unless the sweet tea has something to do with it." He chuckled. When they reached the house, he poured two glasses of homemade lemonade. Handing one to Tellus, he took a gulp from his own before giving a refreshed sigh.

Jehart looked at him in shock. "They live by the Moon Tree?" He asked. It had been called that because it was so huge, people fancied that it could reach the moon. Later, people would hide out under it and sell moonshine. That as the other reason for the title. He was impressed by his sensitivity to taste as well. Not many could tell. "Yeah. Ma looks after them. Pa tried once, but he knocked a hive over. They chased him all over, and he ain't offered since." He chuckled at the memory.

Jehart flinched at the question about the growth in crop yield. "... I don't know." He admitted, looking away to mask his worry. "It began when the till started to flow through the earth like a knife through butter. I don't know why or how... And I don't know what will come of it." He took a long drink from his lemonade. "My strength is easy... These things making the farming easier on me is worrying."

Jehart sighed. "A gift like this doesn't come without a price. And if this gift is given without one, then why not do the same for all the others? It's me specifically. Even my pa still has to use all his strength to move the till, while I barely use any. It could be an angel... But I could also be a bargain with the devil." He finished his lemonade and sighed. "And I don't know why either would grant me this. I don't know what to do or what's going on, and that is why I worry."
