It's that time of year again, so I figured why not make a little chit-chat thread about it! Even those of us who don't have school anymore experience changes around this time of year. Maybe you are moving, looking for a seasonal job, or planning a fantastic end-of-calendar-year road trip? Tell us about it!
Some questions to get you all talking:
Are you still in school? Is it high school? College? Trade school? When will you be starting? Did you already start? What kinds of classes are/will you be taking? Do you know any of your teachers/professors? Have you heard anything about their teaching style? Are/will you be working? Do you wish you could be working? Part time or full time? Is anything else awesome happening this time of year for you? blaugh

Okay let's get this started!
I'm going into my 3rd year of College. It really should be my 4th year since I graduated HS back in 2010, but I took last year off. In fact, I'll be graduating 2 years late since this upcoming year doesn't even count towards my degree, but I can get into that later.
I'll be starting this upcoming Monday and I've finally got everything paid for. My classes were about $600 and books $300? Either way, so much better than when I was going to a private school.
I'm taking 4 classes for a total of 12 credits: Post-Civil War American Literature, Post-Civil War American History, History of Islamic Art, and Fundamentals of Speech. History is my weak subject so I really wanted to take that one since I'm trying to get straight A's to transfer. I don't know anything about my professors, but the art history class will be in the brand new Arts building. I'm so excited blaugh
I don't have a job right now, but I'm currently applying to lots of retail places. I sure hope I get a part-time job in the next few weeks. College students need the money! gonk

This sounds pretty interesting. 4laugh
I`m a freshman in college and i start on october 1st and i`m also going to move out into a dorm. I enrolled into 2 different college as my whole family suggested i should stare and one is tax free. For my other one i already played 40% of the tax when i enrolled. This is the rules i guess.
I`m not really sure what the classes are yet but i have 5 or 6 for each college each term and in january i`ll have my first exams. From what i saw i won`t have to take exams at the end of each class so it might not be so bad. I noticed i have gym hours too sweatdrop That`s my worst nightmare.
One of the colleges is for becoming a teacher/translator and other stuff like that. Truth to be told i didn`t really pay attention to how they`l help me. What i know is that i`ll study german again from scratch (already studied 8 years without marvelous results). The other one is psychology. From what i heard about the teaching style, either the students are present or the teacher is present for class, but rarely at the same time. I met 3 teachers. One was from psychology and he looks interesting but my aunt (who was his student) said he`s pretty weird (in a good way). There were some problems when i enrolled into that college and he was very helpful and nice and kind. The other 2 teachers i know of are english teachers that i took an oral exam with and one of them (both women) look really nice. The other one looks like my old english teacher form high school, she didn`t speak to me much so i don`t know what to think of her yet.
I was considering getting a part time job but that`s a bit more complicated now after i had to enroll into both but i`ll save up whatever money i can from my weekely allowance and buy myself whatever i might need that my parents mustn`t know of ninja
Until i start college (and i can`t wait to start because i`m alredy bored) i will go on holiday across the country between 28th august and 2nd september. Will be going together with my uncle and his family so i`m hoping we`ll have a great time. I`m also working on my college wardrobe and i always buy new stuff so i`ll make everyone believe i`m a pretty young lady 3nodding first impressions count a lot.

That is pretty far from now. Do you know why they start that "late?" 2 colleges? Oh gosh I would die. Unless you end up with like 10 credit hours for one and 8-10 for the other. Then maybe I would be able to handle it. But a full load from each? No way. gonk 5-6 for each? Are they shorter classes or do you still end up going about 4 hours a week for each? That's what ours are: 1 credit per hour per week so a 4 credit class is somewhere between 4-5 hours a week 3nodding I always disliked physical education classes. I've been avoiding taking those but I will have to soon gonk 8 years of German? Gosh that is a lot. I took 3 years of Spanish but forgot like 80% of what I learned sweatdrop I really dislike when professors don't show up for classes on a regular basis. My logic professor canceled 4 of our classes during the summer at the last minute. That doesn't sound like a lot, but if we miss 3 classes (excused or unexcused) we get dropped from the course, so that doesn't really seem fair to me at all. I'm glad the ones you have met seem good so far blaugh Yea I don't think I would even try to get a job in your situation. I only have night classes (with the exception of a 1pm - 4:30pm class every thursday) so I'm thinking I will have plenty of time during the day to work 3nodding Plus my family isn't doing so well so if I can take some of the pressure off (my gas $, school tuition, phone bill, etc.) hopefully that will help. Oh that does sound like a lot of fun! I hope you have a really great time. You're right, first impressions are really important. I think you'll be able to make good ones though 3nodding

Oh that does sound like a lot of fun! I hope you have a really great time. You're right, first impressions are really important. I think you'll be able to make good ones though 3nodding Well, after we finish high school (1st june) we got to take some maturity exams and then in july you apply to college and wait to see if you get accepted. Some colleges accept you based on the exam results and for some you have to take separate tests or additional tests. But whoever fails the exams in june has the chance to retake them in august, unless you`re caugh cheating (and get banned from 4 exam sessions - 2 years) And after this 2nd round of exams people have the chance to apply to college and catch some leftover spots form july. I guess that`s why we start so late. But i understood we finish late too so we didn`t win anything. I don`t know how the credits thing works but i`ll just try and do my best to keep up with all of them. From what i read about the psychology schedule, i`ll have 6 different classes. 4 about some history thing and the basics of psychology and i`ll take exams for it and then one is gym class gonk and one is practice class. We`ll get to do practice at the hospital and prison. I have to apply for a dorm room between 7-20 september and you have all conditions for little money and that`s very nice. I don`t know how i`ll travel around because i don`t have a car but i`ll take the bus or the taxi. My dad has some friends that work as taxi drivers but i don`t know how much advantage i could take of it. I`d feel very bad asking them to drive me around and not pay but at the same time taxis are expensive and i`d never ride one for money. My dad has 2 jobs and mom also has a job so we`re somewhere in the middle. We can afford to have a little expense every now and then but mom is very careful with money (frugal rolleyes ). I will have to buy myself lots of little stuff for the bathroom and notebooks and pans in case i want to cook myself something. I also wanted to get some contact lenses to wear while at school because i think my glasses make me look unpretty XD. I would`ve loved to get a job but i can`t anymore so i`ll try save up as much as i can from my pocket money for the week. If i`m careful how i eat i could probably save 2/3 of it and my weight. I worked out hard this summer and i lost 6 kilograms 3nodding I`m hoping i can get in a better shape so i can wear tight and short stuff without being embarassed.

We have to apply and be accepted while still in high school so we end up just going straight in after summer. It sounds like you are going to be quite busy. Good luck. emotion_hug Do you get a roommate in your dorm? Is it a co-ed building or does each gender have its own buildings? I've had my own car for a while, so I haven't had to deal with figuring out transportation sweatdrop I wish you luck with it! 3nodding Oh I got contacts when I started college too! I got the ones that you take out each night because I wouldn't be wearing them everyday. Turns out I hardly wear them xd That's so great! I'm supposed to lose quite a lot but have only lost a few pounds so far emo I wish you lots of luck in that endeavor!

During the summer they`re hotels since we`re seaside towns. I heard there are 2 buildings, one that is kind of old and one that is new and super cool so i hope i`ll end up in the new one sweatdrop And we`ll be 4 girls in a room and sharing one bathroom. We also have a kitchen that we share with the whole floor i think. I`m not sure about this yet. The ony bad thing is that you don`t know who you`ll be sharing the room with. In case of something you can switch rooms if the other girls agree but that`s gonna be tough. I was thinking to get contacts in case i go out looking fancy. It would look nicer in photos if i didn`t have glasses. I want to wear them only at school because when i get back at the dorm i`ll switch to glasses. The only thing i don`t like about lenses is that i got to poke my own eyes to put them on xd That`s gonna be a problem.

I kind of feel like I should have taken advantage of my time in dorms since I won't get that experience again emo I hope you get placed with girls that you get along with! I actually don't like photos of me without glasses on. Lol I'm so weird! Oh gosh I had this horrible fear of hurting my eye by poking it before I started wearing contacts. It took my eye doctor a full hour and a half (i kid you not) to guide me through it enough times that he felt I was confident enough to do it on my own. It's much easier for me now though and it has made things like putting eyeliner on much less stressful xd I start classes tonight gonk So nervous!

PurpleLovr I usually focus on studies too but I like having people to talk to. Especially when I have to eat meals on campus or work on group projects Oh i see. I already have 2 of my old classmates that go to the same university and another friend that i made in advance so i`m ok. If anyone there looks interesting i`d love to meet them but from what i saw are mostly girls full of make up and stupid ideas so i`m not missing much. But you never know until you meet them in person. I really hope i meet nice people because i learn stuff form them and i improve myself in certain ways.
