He could remember the name it was familiar like a bittersweet memory that in some ways he was shameful that he had forgotten her. She had been his best friend for years, always encouraging him whenever he felt down, or even if his last girlfriend had dumped him for the highschool football star. The whole reason he was even anywhere in life… or what was the partial memories of some life was her.

Sara….

He could see the king again, the two bowing, and like before he had started to drift away again his hand reaching out and touching the fountain.

Lonely choice…

Yea that was probably for the best he thought as the whole world went black again. A spark of light started to wrap around him as the warm glow encourage him to step forward. There was no arrows, nor sort of knights threatening his life as he started to walk forward. The fog curled around his feet as the soft orbs floating almost as if slowly dancing to the sweet music that could be heard. If this was the real world he would like to stay there, or at least in his mind it seemed real enough for the time being.

As the trees started to appear, their long elegant barren arms stretching across the carpet of fog he wanted to sway wit the music but then he stopped in front of the largest one.

It spoke in a soft voice he wondered if Sara had spoken in the same way.

He would follow.

Matt started to walk away from the great tree, as the orbs floated guiding him along the fog they still remained lulling to the music as his body swayed to follow, it started to grow even louder from the lake in front of him. There were other trees that stood on the bank of a lake their branches still barren from leaves or blossoms. The seemed almost sad as they hung across the white lake that shimmered with the soft glow of the orbs. It was serene, if there was a possibility, Matt would have remained there sitting on the shore looking out and never moving, but he had a task to complete.

Getting on his hands and knees he plunged his head into the warm water, the soft ripples breaking the surface letting the light play along the dark curls. A voice replied as he watched his dark hair float around his face.

To help the children…..

As the voice died away he got up the orbs still floating around his body. Cupping his hands he gently scooped up the warm water. He stared, watching it reflect the small lights that danced around him. He wanted to keep it for himself but instead, started to walk slowly back to the tree as careful as he could. As he avoided spelling too much of the water he stood in front of the three and poured the water down the trunk and over the roots that sunk itself into the ground.

It shook in appreciation as a 9mm acorn fell from above.

The orbs nuzzled him again and started to pull him towards the lake as the acorn remained forlorn as if waiting to grow and blossom into something great. As he reached the lake he stopped when the water started to reach above his knees.

It spoke, the voice that the humming had come from.
Matt watched as the bubbles started to form on the surface watching each one with curiosity.

Snippet One:
It was complete freedom, true he wasn’t anything special, he wasn’t something as great as a zodiacal animal but he was a bird. A varied bunting it was called, common enough to not raise any interest by anyone but it had wings. That was the only thing he wanted, wings, the freedom to fly and to gaze at the land below.

Well sort of fly.

Or at least fly to the extent of being able to feel and watch the world from his companion’s point of view. Everyone at the age of thirteen could summon a creature, a companion they called it that was bonded to them for life. They could for certain period share the mind of their companion, see things feel things, there was nothing more amazing than that sensation. When the human died so did the companion a few hours later and vice versa.
Matt blinked his eyes as he looked back up at the sky.

“You know you look kinda of funny just sitting there slumped over on a tree,” A voice replied in his head as the owner landed on his shoulder. Matt smiled before getting to his feet, dusting the dirt that had settled on his pants.

"At least..."

The bubble popped.

Matt looked as another bubble caught his attention, this one was different…

Snippet Two:

A dolphin, that was what they said he was like when he glided through the water. It looked almost effortless, as if the water merely allowed him to move through the water than opposing any force. However despite all those rather encouraging words there was still a pit rising into his stomach getting ready to consume him whole. He took in a deep breath of air and looked ahead of him, it was blue completely blue as all the noise started to fade away. He could hear his heart still beating in his chest and extending throughout his body.

“Hey Matt goodluck,” A voice replied placing their hand on his shoulder and then letting go as they turned back to the bleachers.

“Thanks man…”

The rest of the swimmers lined up, each of them in their own school colors like a multitude of primary colors thrown on a canvas. One of his friends grinned giving him a thumbs-up, before pulling down his goggles and getting into stance.

Matt did the same as he turned back looking at the water. It was almost like glass, peaceful like a window into another world. In a few minutes they all would be plunging into it like a knife, the bubbles surrounding their bodies as everything else would melt away and the drive to win would surface.

He kept his eyes focused.

He would win.

He had to win.

The buzzer erupted and he sprung forward.

The bubble burst.

Snippet Three:

Life was very terrible. He had spent most of it running away, in fact he was only good for one thing and that was running away from situations that arose that threaten to end his life. For example one day when he was minding his own business a rather overgrown pom with large red mane decided that it was his lucky day. The lucky day that the little flutter cat was going to be his amusement.

That was the other problem he had failed to mention. He was a fairy cat, or otherwise known as glitter butt by others. He was little, and well flat out tiny and only good at dumping glitter on everyone making him the butt of everyone’s joke.

Anyways, this oversize lump of a pom decided that today he was going to be the amusement and to be beaten into some sort of puddle of glitter and blood. If it wasn’t for the fact that he had the ability to easily side tracked people by jokes and making fun of them and then fluttering away when they were distracted he would be smushed.

Even better when the pom’s partner would show up and he could get them to fight one another in which he had.

There was other problems too, like the one time someone got a hold of him and wanted to sacrifice him to some damn altar. Luckily you needed ten and so when he got everyone together in arguing who was going to go first.
He fluttered away again.

Or being sold on the black market, much easier to just be unnoticeable and hiding behind the bigger guys. Only decent reason of being little.
Lastly there was the issue of where he was now.

A beautiful dame, and he was just getting up the nerve to talk to her when suddenly.

The bubble pop.

The rest of the bubbles floated away as he looked at the sapling. It had grown but there was still something else to do.

The sapling was beautiful but still incomplete as the orbs started to lead him away and back towards the lake. However instead of the once beautiful pool of shimmering water he was greeted with an breathtaking scene.

In the distance a large castle stood with its base shrouded by fog that made its way down across the multiple pools. They all shimmered from the orbs of light that seemed to be almost delighted with the sapling’s progress. Purple and blues danced along the soft yellow light glows, almost familiar to something in a distant memory.

The soft voice spoke, fainter but still there. He longed to hear its voice continue to sing but he needed to complete the task.

The tree had to blossom forth.

He looked at each pool, looking as his own reflection still seemed to be somewhat blurred as the orbs lingered waiting to see his pick.
The furthest one, that was the one that had beckoned him, it was warm to the touch as he cupped his hands and took a scoop of water. Faces appeared in his mind, some were kinder than others, faces that smiled, held his hand, kissed his cheek, others were of him patting someone on the back, encouraging words.

Slowly he made his way back to the sapling and poured the water, watching it soak the dirt.

It grew, and it blossomed.

It was truly beautiful with the sweet orbs coming forth almost like a reflection of life.

He nodded, yes he was satisfied with how it become far more satisfied than he could have imagine.

(sorry about the rng)
