This one looked different than the rest, but a dragon was still a dragon.

Mimsy swung the scythe towards it and smiled when it connected with one of its wings.

The scythe connected with its other wing.

The creature continued to sit in one place, immobilized.

It stared (as much as something that couldn't move could stare) and she stared back, eyes scanning its face for any signs of cognitive awareness.

"Are you in there?" Her voice was a hissed whisper, and its lack of response was as good as a 'no'. She drove the scythe's blade into its snout.

The voice that once seemed like a friend was now becoming more and more irritating. Didn't it see what she was trying to do here?

She tried to chop its arm off and was irritated when that didn't happen.

"You're all the same," she grumbled, narrowing her eyes at the creature. "You begin as something innocuous enough, and grow and grow into mild frustration, then cement yourself into places you can't be removed."

She realized she was tapping her own head and returned the hand to the scythe.

"Well. Not any more. I'll destroy each and every one of you dragons and wyverns and jabberwocks with my own hands if I have to."

She sliced into its head and sighed in relief again. Another down.

Another gone, while the one she really wanted to get rid of remained.
