She couldn't really grasp 'existing' again. She didn't exist, she did, she didn't, she did.....There were flickers of memory, pieces of something that had pasted her together and then - white again. Mist. It was comforting in a way she couldn't explain, but walking through it was pleasant.

She stopped, taking a deep breath of the mist, it felt like a part of her existed solely in that mist. Better than that, though, was that she wasn't alone. The little wisps of flames that slowly faded into being from the mist were both slightly unnerving as well as comforting. Direction - she felt like she'd needed direction for longer than she could remember and that part of her so willingly followed it as if every piece of her hinged on just that.

Direction.

Trees.

Shehk took a deep breath, mist, faint scents. It was the most pleasant thing. Familiar, in a way. Silver branches reached out and she reached out to touch one, breaking off a piece of it and tucking it into her hair before she continued walking on through the trees, feeling comfortable in the atmosphere it gave.

Until the trees parted, leaving a single tree standing tall and alone, it's branches sprawling open towards the sky, towards the other trees. She watched it, entranced. It seemed to grand, despite the simplicity of it. She basked for a moment....then paused. It didn't smell the same at all - it smelled..... off. Bitter. She reached out to place her hand on, brushing her finger over the smooth bark.

Desire. Hopefulness. A chance for a last hurrah. Shehk relished it, breathing in deeply and leaning her head against it's trunk.

"Yes..." she whispered - perhaps to herself. This was what she needed. This was what she needed.....

Just passed the tree it seemed as if there was something more - enough so that she couldn't help but step away from the tree and walk beyond it. "I'll come back..." she murmured quietly as she moved on. The little orbs she had walked with seemed to dance over the surface of whatever it was, silver branches sticking out and over the ballet of light.

A lake. It was a lake. The lights dancing off the surface made it appear white, and she couldn't help but reach out, touching her hand to the surface to see if it was. It almost seemed as though her flesh melted right into the white surface, shimmering and dancing, both of similar lightness.

At her touch, it felt like the ripples spoke. Pulling her hand away she looked around for somebody who could be speaking...and yet....

Shehk plunged her head into the water, driven despite any logic the action may have had.

Children...heal....children, the children..... it was like a hot knife plunged into her. The words both hurt her and moved her at the same time. She could feel the orbs of light beginning their waltz around her as she slowly pulled herself out from the lake, smoothing her hair back from her face.

Water. Children... Children. It wasn't these lights that seemed to hold hands and circle with each other. No, it was...it was.... She looked at the trees. Was it them? The sickly tree, perhaps could....

"That has to be it..." she murmured to herself, first checking to see if she had anything to carry with her before she cupped her hands to carefully hold water in them. It took her a few tries to make a decent bowl out of her fingers before she was ready to walk back to the tree.

Every step threatened to spill over, forcing her to still, to walk slower, to take her time. It was only with great caution and the will to make herself move carefully that she actually did make it to the tree with any decent amount of water.

Carefully, she poured the water from her hands onto the tree's roots. The reaction seemed to be instantaneous. The tree shuddered as if life was suddenly surging through it before a single acorn seemed to curl into existence on one of the branches. Shehk took a deep breath, smiling. Progress.

Then the acorn dropped to the ground. She looked from it to the tree, gasping as the tree began to wither. "No, you should be alright no-"

Thank you.

She felt it more than she heard it. Looking down at the acorn, Shehk carefully buried it, covering it with both hands. "Looks like it's just you and me little one...." To be honest, though, she wasn't sure why she was talking to an acorn.

The lake seemed to be the only place she could start looking for any direction in what to do - and direction it gave. Memories? But she had no-

Shehk Memory One

She felt really small and in a way insignificant. Maybe it was a bad idea for a little minipet to have dreams when it seemed like everybody who was in those dreams just ended up being a part of Ginger's kitchen supply. Just like everybody else.

She waited, hoping something would change.

She waited, still knowing inevitably she would be the next one pulled out of the pen to go into that awful pot that swallowed up everybody else.

She waited, the end that would be inside someone's belly inching ever nearer.

She waited, but being part of school lunch never came.

Shehk Memory Two

Sorting. It seemed kind of like a dumb idea to sort people out, but at the same time the idea of such camaraderie was exciting! She sat, pulling her hat down further over her head, the brim almost covering her face. Kicking her legs back and forth, she waited to hear her name, to see which house would be hers, which group she would sit together with. Shehk looked at every face carefully, eagerly trying to decide who would be friends with a girl like her.

There was a chance of that, right?

But she kind of hoped they'd all be her friend too...

Shehk Memory Three

Waiting, waiting. She was kind of sick of waiting. She held her weapon in one hand, staring out into the arena. There was no need to give a practice swing, to test her arm, to give any hint of the strength behind her.

98 losses, 98 victories, it was all a matter of perspective.

The gate rose, it was time to go.

Battle 99, another battle that she would win for someone else - and lose for herself.

Maybe it was better to see them gone.

The little tree seemed to be doing so well, Shehk crouching to watch it with a thoughtful look on her face, brushing her fingers over it's branches and smiling.

"You're gonna be fine.." she murmured.

Not yet...

She put a hand against her chest and frowned. Was there more to do? Carefully standing up, she moved back to the lake - it was kind of like being high, she imagined, talking to trees and lakes, but it was all she had to go with.

Oh. She just needed to water it again? Carefully, she reached out to cup her hands and gather more water, but quickly stopped. There were more than just one. She stepped back to look at them all. Choices.

Stepping around the pools of water, she stopped, dipping her hands into a pool of warm water. It felt nice on her hands, pleasant even deeper than that, as she walked it back to her little sapling, pouring it onto the tree's roots.

As before, it grew, and Shehk stepped back to admire the tree with it's glowing lights as it displayed itself for her and with it, memories - memories of people that she couldn't recognize and a certain togetherness that felt like a cloak she wrapped herself in to keep herself safe.

She place a hand on it's trunk.

"You're perfect."
