Wooow, it was pretty here! Though Eva had to admit, the fact that a tree was talking to her and asking for her assistance was just a little weird. Just a little. Although Chara was voicing her concerns at the idea of her wielder going around and trying to fulfill a talking tree's wish, Eva waved her worries aside. It'd be fine, she assured her, she was sure that there would be no harm in giving it a go. It was good to do a nice deed every now and then, after all!

She hummed to herself cheerfully as she followed after the wisps, moving towards the lake. Without waiting to be prompted, she dropped down next to the water, inhaled, and dunked her head in while ignoring Chara's protests.

...

Hmm, interesting! So she was supposed to bring some water over to the tree? Cupping her hands together, she scooped up as much water as she could, gliding across the ground with as careful and even steps as she could. Once she reached the tree, she gently let the water seep between her fingers and rain over the branches. The quiet thank you earned a grin and a chipper "you're welcome!" in return, and then she glanced down at the acorn, stooping down to examine it.

She let herself be guided back to the lake, dropping down and crossing her legs when she reached the edge. What did it have to tell her now?

...Feed the tree memories? What memorie--...oh. Hers? Despite herself, Eva couldn't help but let out a small laugh at this, lifting a hand to touch her head. She didn't have many memories to offer up herself, so she wasn't entirely sure how--or if she wanted--to sacrifice them. She wanted to help, but the idea of wandering around as a memoryless being again was less than appealing.

Fortunately, she soon realized that she probably wouldn't have to give up her personal memories after all. Upon noticing the bubbles in the lake, she leaned forward to get a better look, eyes widening when she realized that her face was present in the memories that were playing in each bubble. They weren't memories that were familiar to her, though. Whether this was because they were fabricated or simply memories she didn't remember, she didn't know, but in either case...

Reaching out, she gathered them towards herself.

Just as the outside world had become bleak and monotone, so too had Eva's mind. In the beginning, she resisted against the insanity, hopeful that they'd somehow find a way to overthrow the Queens and chance things back to normal. She desperately clung onto her memories, and when she closed her eyes, she could picture how things used to be, her friends, color...

And then she'd be plunged back into reality once her eyes slid back open.

It wasn't too bad at first. She made an effort not give in and maintain her own personal identity, but as the days passed, and then weeks, months, years...she found that she was starting to give in. The memories of the life she led before the insanity were breaking away, one piece at a time. She forgot what purple--her favourite color--looked like, and then orange, green, blue--they were all replaced by shades of gray, even in her mind.

There were also people she cared about who she had often thought about in the past, but one morning, she hazily realized that she couldn't recall their names anymore. A few days later, their faces disappeared from her mind as well, and then their whole existence was wiped from her memory. Eva only had the vague, lingering feeling that she had forgotten something very important.

Upon waking up that particular morning, the first thing Eva did was look down at herself in confusion. Who...was she? Her name was...

...

There was no room for individuality in this world. Ultimately, she was just a small piece of the collective whole.

Wizarding school. Seriously, how cool was that?! Eva was totally ready for this. There was just one teeny little problem...

Serpentarius. Man, she didn't want to get sorted with a bunch of buttfaces like them! Or at least, she had heard that they were a stuck up and arrogant bunch. She supposed that it wouldn't be right of her to judge without seeing for herself (after all, what did it say about the non-Serpentarius people when they were always complaining about them?) but it was hard to shake an idea that had been planted in her head.

Then again, the school had something that would sort everyone into each of the different houses, right? Eva would have liked to be a Pegasi or Leo (she didn't think she was really cut out for the Capricorns...) but ultimately, her fate was int the hands of the hat-thing. She would just have to trust it. She didn't reeeeally want to be in Serpentarius, but hey. If it put her into it, there must be a reason for that right?

Honestly, Eva wasn't huge on the whole house deal either way. She just wanted to learn how to cast spells and set things on fire.

Day in, day out, Eva's life revolved around fighting. Although she had initially been scared at the prospect of fighting to the death, over time, she had become rather apathetic. Even though she had doubted her skills, in a kill or be killed situation, she had found that sheer adrenaline and determination had been enough to drive her forward.

The first time she killed someone, she threw up and sobbed.

The second time, she wept.

The third time...

By now, she was so used to it that, after bringing the bladed end of her staff across her opponent's throat, Eva barely bat an eye, turning and ignoring the man's dying gurgles as she allowed herself to be led back to her cage. That made person number 98. Tomorrow would finally be number 99, her 99th kill.

Except when she walked into the arena the next day, she was shocked to find herself facing a familiar blond. Up until that point, none of her opponents had been anyone that she had known--no one she had known well, anyways. There were people she vaguely recognized and had had friendly chats with before, like the baker's cheerful daughter and the man who ran the grocery stall in the market back in her hometown, but everyone else had been strangers. It had become easy for her to fight against strangers--she didn't know anything about them, not about their life or their family, and she didn't want to know. Eva had always made an effort to remain as closed off as possible once she was brought here.

But this. This was...

...Impossible to avoid. She didn't want to fight him, but what other choice did she have now? Smoothing out her features, she stared at him coolly, waiting until she heard the signal being given before lunging forward to attack.

The sapling was growing, but it wasn't quite there yet. Upon learning that there was more watering to be done, Eva moved towards the pools and eyed her options carefully. What to pick...?

In the end, she crouched down and scooped some water up from the warm pool, cupping it carefully as she hurried back to her sapling and let the water flow over it.

And it was gorgeous, very much so. Watching the bright wisps--they reminded her of fireflies, almost--the young woman laughed. "Yes, very satisfied! I hope you're feeling better now!"
