He was unsure if he appreciated the solitude or not.

Perhaps he might have, if there were someone to spend it with (which, if he thought about it, defeated the purpose of solitude), but alas, he was alone, with only his thoughts to keep him company.

They weren't particularly good company, if he was being honest about it.

The water was pleasant, but Ian wasn't in any rush to get near it. Instead, he meandered lazily about its shores, casually glancing at it every few moments as though observing it, until finally he took a few steps nearer.

He supposed he should do something now. Perhaps take the water over to the pathetic looking tree with its wilted branches and despondent flora. Ian casually made his way towards the lake again, crouching down and scooping out a proper handful.

Later on, when he was given the acorn, he wondered why he was doing this in the first place.

Was it proper to walk into a lake fully dressed? He wasn't entirely certain of the protocol here, but he sure as heck wasn't about to strip in the middle of nowhere when anybody might walk past.

(He doubted anyone would, but that was beside the point, and besides, it didn't ever hurt to take precautions).

Your character exists in a world where Halloween does not exist. They are Human and they go to a Human high school. They are part of a swimming club, and they are currently about to face a great competition. They know their rival swim team is trying to race against them but they must win the gold medal, for their team! All else you can interpret as you please, including roles and canon. You are only writing your character's POV but you can borrow NPCs and any players characters you got permission from.

If he were being particularly honest with himself, the truth was that Ian had really only joined the swim team because of one blatant reason, a reason he was not about to admit anytime soon.

He wasn't even really a fan of swimming, not really (chlorine made him wrinkle his nose), but there were some rather nice...benefits to being on the team, benefits that he wouldn't have had otherwise. And, all things considered, it wasn't actually that bad.

Except for the team uniforms, which were white with gold trim and looked somewhat silly.

Ian pushed his wet hair out of his face and bobbed slowly up and down, his arms and legs still moving to keep him afloat. Beside him, in the next lane, splashing noises indicated that Dorian had finished his lap, and a small gasp of breath indicated that he had finally come up for air.

Ian raised his eyebrows. "All done?"

"Oui," said Dorian, reaching up to grip the bars of the starting block, stripping off his swimmer's cap and goggles. "I thought I would do another fifty metres, but then decided it against it. I can't do ze butterfly for ze meet, though."

"Why not?"

Dorian shook his head, spraying water everywhere. "My arms aren't as strong as zey used to be. I think if I did freestyle it'd be easier, but my time for ze fifty butterfly is too slow to compete."

Ian shrugged, ducking beneath the water and staying there for a few seconds before resurfacing, letting the water drip down his face. Even if he didn't actually enjoy swimming as a sport, there was something rather relaxing about spending a great deal of time in water - not to mention that in the midst of fall, when it was close to ninety degrees outside, swimming in a nice, air conditioned pool was quite nice.

"Coach is gonna be pissed at you," he said, and laughed. Dorian just rolled his eyes.

"Coach can be mad all 'ee wants," he replied with a snort. "Zat is why I don't really care. I'm doing just fine on my own, and he can't deny that I do well at ze freestyle."

"True," Ian conceded, as the doors to the pool burst abruptly open, footsteps echoing throughout the enclosed space. The rest of the team, flanked by their coach, had started to file into the pool area, all of them already in their swim team uniforms.

Ian glanced down at his very non-approved black board shorts with pink flamingos printed vibrantly across the fabric.

Coach Pennington was less than amused.

"The meet is in an hour, boys," she told them sternly, fifteen minutes later, as they stood with towels wrapped around their necks. "One hour and then we go up against the Simonsville Suns and so help me if we lose to them, I will be very unhappy and that will, in turn, make you guys unhappy, which will make the rest of the world unhappy, so why don't we just do us all a favor and not lose so that everyone is happy."

This was not really an argument, so Ian just nodded in response. He gave a sideways glance at Dorian, who was currently attempting to stash away the pack of smokes he had smuggled into the pool, and hid a smile, fighting to keep his face straight. A moment later, someone had leaned their head over Ian and Dorian's shoulders, peering curiously around.

"You guys getting into trouble?" Finn asked, lazily slinging an arm over both of them. "Don't piss off the coach before the meet, you guys should know that by now."

Dorian was rolling his eyes again, but Ian was too busy appreciating the finer aspects of being on the swim team (like kicking some serious opposing team butt, a fact that was even more pleasing considering that Ian's decidedly unpleasant ex was on the other team) to answer more than just a "hardee har har, thank you, Finn."

Needless to say, they won the meet.

Your character is a wizard that goes to Pigfarts, the most prestigious wizarding school of them all. It is their first year transferring into the school, and they are scared they will be sorted into Serpentarius, the rumoured "bad group" among the four sorted groups. You secretly hope you will either be part of the Pegasi (hard working, but not very intelligent), Leo (Brave and noble), or even the Capricorns (Intelligent). If you are a horsemen, hunter, or student, it doesn't matter, you are a student of Pigfarts. You are only writing your character's POV but you can borrow NPCs and any players characters you got permission from.

They were lost and it was entirely Quinn's fault.

"They said go left after we got off the boats," said Ian, as he dragged his (very heavy) trunk up the staircase and tried not to fall backwards down it. "We were with the rest of the group, we were fine, and now look what happened."

"I thought she said right," Quinn wailed, almost dropping his own trunk, but Ian grabbed it at the last moment, shoving it sideways with his own. They fell with a dull thud next to the rest of the students' supplies, and Ian grabbed Quinn's arm, yanking him forward.

"Come on," he said. "We're going to miss the ceremony if we're not fast!"

They raced down the corridor, Quinn slowing every few steps to ogle one of the moving portraits on the walls, Ian dragging him along beside him. When they finally reached the front entrance way (after taking several more wrong turns along the way), Ian poked his head into the doors that held the Great Hall.

"They haven't started yet, it looks like," he whispered, and gestured for Quinn to follow him. "Come on, we can sneak in. We'll just come in through the back, the rest of the group is here already, they won't even have noticed that we were gone."

It was a good plan, and it might even have succeeded - had not Ian tripped over Quinn's robes and gone face first into some poor third year girl's lap, sending her squealing and jumping up automatically. Which, in turn, made her knock over her goblet of pumpkin juice, which spilled halfway down the table and caused several plates of food to become quite inedible and several people yelping and ghosts flying.

The professors at the staff table were staring.

"Er," said Ian. "Well."

"It's lucky we didn't get expelled," Quinn mumbled ten minutes later, as they stood in line for the sorting ceremony. "Professor MacDougal looked at us as though were a couple of slimy gits."

"We're fine, we're fine," said Ian soothingly. He rocked back and forth on his heels and added, "It could have been worse. We didn't get points docked or anything, and besides, it's only our first day. We're first years, and first years are bound to do silly things the first day."

Quinn didn't answer, but he looked slightly greenish. "What?" Ian asked.

"I hope I don't get Serpentarius," Quinn whispered, looking horrified at the very idea, and Ian clapped a hand on his shoulder. "You won't, mate," he said bracingly. "Only the slimy gits go in Serpentarius. You and I, we'll be fine. I bet we'll both be in Leo."

He tried not to think about how much it would suck not to be in Leo. Or rather, how much it would suck if he got stuck in Serpentarius. They were a bad lot, from what he'd heard; looking over, he could see them at their table, surly faced and sour looking.

Ian tried not to thinking about it too much.

"McGonagall, Quinn," called Professor MacDougal, and Ian gave Quinn a little nudge, pushing him forward. Quinn shuffled across towards the front of the Hall and stood in front of the Sorting, which took place from a small, wooden goblet that looked hardly big enough to hold water.

After a moment, a burst of golden flames erupted upwards, and Professor MacDougal reached into them, plucking out a small piece of paper. She unfurled it, glanced down, and read,

"Pegasi."

Quinn looked almost weak with relief. Ian clapped hard along with the rest as Quinn made his way towards the Pegasi table, several older students leaning to greet him, clapping hands on his shoulders. Ian watched until he was forced to drag his attention back to the Sorting.

It was quite a bit more time until they reached his name.

"Rahal-Nazari, Ian."

He had tried not to think about it, tried to act as calm as humanly possible about it, but so far he couldn't quite quell the nerves bundled in his stomach. Ian took several shakey steps forward, taking a deep breath and adopting a careless pose, hands loose at his sides, head tilted a little as though this were just another everyday experience.

Except not Serpentarius not Serpentarius was repeating in his head over and over again like a mantra, along with totally gonna be in Leo, yup, totally gonna be in Leo.

The flames in the goblet turned gold after about a moment (the longest minute of Ian's life), and Professor MacDougal reached for it, her long fingers spreading out the paper so that she could read it more easily.

"Capricorn."

Your character plays This is Halloween, the greatest online MMO ever created. While in reality they may exist as their somewhat boring, ordinary selves (with jobs, or school, or whatnot), online they can be whatever they want. Part of the noble (but human) faction of Deus Ex as a Hunter, or the more neutral faction of Halloween, or even the feared Horsemen faction. PVPs, raids, and even some roleplayed events occur for your character to get loot. Basically, they are humans ICly playing their actual TiH incarnations, feel free to interpret as you please. You are only writing your character's POV but you can borrow NPCs and any players characters you got permission from.

"Wait, wait."

Ian leaned back in his chair, swiveling sideways as he rummaged through a nearby drawer for some headphones. On his computer, the faces of his two teammates popped up in another window. "I thought you said we weren't going to try for anymore Amityville raids, not after we lost that loot the last time we tried."

"Well, I thought we'd do better this time." His cousin's voice sounded slightly fuzzy through the connection, Marcus looking as laid back as always, a light smirk on his face. "We managed to beat Arel the last time."

Ian let out a snort. "Yeah, at the cost of several of our scavengers. We almost lost Eva, too."

"You didn't almost lose me, sillies," Eva interrupted with a laugh. "I was just sidetracked by the mobs, they were all over me. I almost got done with them when everything went to hell in a handbasket, though."

She was eating something that looked a lot like cookies. Ian held out a hand.

"Share?"

She pressed an Oreo to her computer screen. "Here you go, just for you."

He scowled at her good-naturedly, but she was grinning at him, popping the Oreo into her mouth. "Hey, it's not my fault you live so far away. Besides, remember what I told you?"

"Oooh, what did she promise you?" Marcus interrupted, sounding keen, but Ian ignored him.

"Yes, I remember," he said. "If we can beat the Hellma boss at Level 666, you'll bring me cookies."

"I'll send you cookies," Eva corrected. "We're like, three states too far apart for me to actually bring them to you. I'll make some for you too, Marcus," she added, as Marcus made a face that was half between a pout and a smirk. Ian stuck out his tongue, and Marcus just rolled his eyes.

"Raid on the boss lady," said Ian, and gave his two teammates a salute. "Let's do this."

The pool, at least, was easy for Ian to choose.
