We had a dragon magic thread before, but it got long and old and is now in the cave. Welcome to v2.0, hopefully we can pick up the discussion from where we left off and the thread length will not be so intimidating to newcomers.

Feel free to ask questions, if you want to ask me a question directly quote me so I find the post, pretty please.

(P.S. Yes I managed to find a few spare moments to create a thread, shock horror! )

There really aren't a whole lot of books on the topic. D.J Conway has two Dancing with Dragons and Mystical Dragon Magic. There is another book on the subject that is not as well known or even easy to find. The other thing I can suggest is find any book on Dragon lore you can find.

I may sticky it in another place but also lock it as we have a new thread yay.

Plus with it being a brand new thread we can have old discussions actually be new again.

Have you ever faced any sort of ordeals with the Dragons?

That works biggrin

This is very true and when those subjects come up again those of us already working with dragons can take a good look at where we are and compare it to where we were all those moons ago too, would be interesting to compare.

I have but to write them up in detail would be in breach of the ToS

Loona Wynd
Yay threadyness.

See, I do try biggrin

I've always had a love for dragons, ever since i was little. I remember when I was about six drawing a pretty, green dragon fending of a knight in crayons. Are there any beginning techniques to start in this branch of magick?

Difficult to say for me there have always been dragons in my life my constant 'imaginary friend' was a small blue dragon named Blue. I would meditate to be honest, set some dragon's blood incense burning and meditate on dragon, and project your desire to meet and get to know them. If you are sincere and you are ready, dragons will come, just remember to treat them with respect.

I dont think of it as a branch of magick. Its a system of magic and beliefs to me. It really could be its own religious tradition and is to some people. There is a lot that can be said but much has to be experienced.

Dragons are individual beings so its important to remember that you are not using them. You are working with them. They are going to be the ones to really be your guides on this venture. Its really been the Dragons that have been teaching me.

I actually worship some of the Dragons I have worked with. They are entirely one part of the pentacle in my tradition. Some of them are Gods and some of them are might spirits in their own rights. They receive sacrifices and offerings just as much as any other Deity does.

When I started to work with them I was also starting my training in the Temple tradition. It has actually been an excellent foundation into which to delve into other practices. It was through the Temple exercises I was able to really begin meditation.

Here is an exercise you can work with if you'd like:

Materials:
Dragons Blood Incence
Candle
Psychic Incence of some form

Exercise:

Light the candle and state:
"Candle light guide my thoughts on this night"

Light the psychic incense and state:
"Scent to mind-psychic travel comes at this time"

Light the Dragons Blood Incence and state
"I offer this to the might Dragon Spirits of all realms May you enjoy this gift"

Get into a comfortable meditative position.

As you relax and start to meditate keep the current Mantra in mind:
"To the land of the Dragons I go"

This will give your mind and spirit direction when you reach the spirit roads.

Use a count down meditative technique and get into the meditative state.

Before you see the Door to the realm of the Dragons.

Ask if there are any Dragons that wish to work with you. If they do the door will open and from there I can not say what will happen.

Not PG-13?

I recently realized that my when I did my introduction it was more than a meeting...it was a test, an ordeal, and an initiation of sorts.

Indeed, not PG-13 at all, most of the ordeals dealt with facing various demons from my past (not literally demons mind you) and confronting me over my choice in lifestyle, could I justify the way I live and such.

I see. My ordeal was sort of a test of bravery and a test of worth. I think it also served as an initiation of sorts. I say that because one of the key themes that happen with a true initiation is that there would be a death and rebirth of the initiate.

Indeed.
The attack from the Fire Dragon I met wasn't meant as a warning. It was a test. That fire actually burned away a part of me and a new me was born. The same thing happened with each of the elemental Dragon Lords I met that night. They all broke away part of me and a new me was reborn. The Fire was the final cleansing to be reborn. They were initiating me that night and I didn't understand it till several years later.

I see. smile I think initiations like that are the best sort, initiated directly into a path by those you are working with.
