Ying rushed into the fight. She thought it was another insanity creeper, but no. It was different. It was a cute fight.
Well that was innocent! It must have been a gift from the goddesses. Yes, that was it!
Except when she opened it, it was not a gift from the goddesses. If it was, it was a very not nice gift.
She shot out of fright, but the shots weren't accurate. Kettil wasn't having a good time. Still. He had a shiny new weapon and a willingness to try interaction with the world at large once again. Except he seemed to suddenly misplaced his smiles.
Either way he wandered up and slashed at the creature. He was staring straight at it for now. He wasn't sure he could handle looking at anyone else. Mort, having just regained (some of) his memories, was in a bit of a tizzy to be honest. Namely that oh wow he remembered people. And now it was time to quest to look for them!
But a battle caught his eye, and he had noticed these monsters were more stubborn than the previous bunch. So there he was just moving on in to try and attack it when he noticed something.
Two somethings. Two somethings he believed might be--

He kinda forgot about the treasure chest nibbling on his leg.

She was starting to hardly recognize the guy who she'd spent most of her time with before they'd given up their hearts. He was a completely different person now, coming into a fight without a word - and without a smile. She missed the smile, but she wasn't prepared to accept what might come with it. So she turned to the new guy, who seemed to know both their names, and hoped to the goddesses that he wasn't going to start acting weird on her, too. "Is it just me, or did it get cold in here?" There was a bit of a pause before he continued his next swing to hit the monster, "Hello new friends," he said simply his voice had energy to it but it seemed somehow empty.
Kettil stared at Mort for a long second or two and just nodded, accepting the greeting.

He wasn't totally sure about the quiet acceptance, but . . . anything was better than that sad memory. So he smiled back, because Annabell--Belladonna, he reminded himself--would have been proud to see him working on it. He'd have to ease into it, seeing as the pair didn't seem to recognize him; maybe that was okay for right now.
"Dunno! Battle'll be heating up soon I imagine," he replied airily, trying to combat the odd air coming off of Kettil. "I call after-battle cuddling, everyone?"

Why were they even doing this to each other? Each time she twisted a knife in his heart, he just wanted to do the same to her. His expression was neutral as he regarded Freya and then looked at Mort, "Normally I'd give that some consideration but you see...She might mistake it as trying to make out with her. Seeing as I kiss everyone, apparently. Without feeling or any sort of s**t like that."
No. He wasn't feeling like the cuddliest of all the cuddlebugs right now.
He barely even wanted to pretend Freya existed right now. Her words hurt too much, cut too deeply. She was hurting him more than the monsters could.
