As your hand rests upon the green pillar, you feel something pull at you. Your surroundings grow dark as you are pulled elsewhere.
Rei feels something moving beneath him. The air is pleasant and warm, complete with a brisk chill. Before he can open his welded-shut eyes he can feel something heavy clap his shoulder.
With a jolt he awakened, blinking and squinting at the bright light he found himself facing. Loud laughter erupts from around him as the weight lifts from his shoulder, only to reappear as a quick slap on back. It didn't hurts much, though.
"Haha! Fell asleep there, eh?" The hand belongs to someone made out of shadows smiling widely at you. They are riding upon a shadowy creature. He noticed that he is on a similar beast.
Shadows? He thought. But they have no 'heart'...must be beings made from that fog again.
Another beast and rider pulls up next to him on the other side. "Come on, it's not that far now. We'll be able to get this all sorted out soon." They nod forward, "See? It's already in sight."
You can make out a building in front of you. The building is decorated with figures that have been worn down by the passing of time, leaving them open to interpretation. The building itself looks as if it was carved out of the cliff-side it was built into. Or was it built against it? It's difficult to tell from here.
As he looked around, Rei noticed that he is surrounded by a group of seven shadow-people, each one mounted upon a shadow beast.
There is a sense of familiarity about them, then a memory entered his head: all of them set out together, each unified in a single goal. There is something here, something that is hidden at the end of the map.
Memories...no. This is a fabricated one. he noticed, as there was discrepancies with his own.
His 'memory' told him that they...'secured' the map either by buying it with a hefty amount of gold, or stole it from somebody. That memory isn't clear, and pushing the details made his head hurts. After all, it was just a fabrication.
Your thoughts are shattered as a shout reverberates throughout the area. A dark arrow hisses out of the surroundings, lodging itself into the throat of the shadow-person beside you. You watch helplessly as they fall off their beast with a gurgle, clutching at their throat. "Take cover!" It didn't matter who shouted it; whether it was you or one of your six remaining companions, you now have something else to worry about.

THE GAUNTLET - PART ONE
You dismount off your shadow-beast and run, taking cover. There must be several hiding, watching with bows drawn and arrows notched for any of your party to reveal themselves. You can hear the determined stomp and crash as others still search for your group on foot.
Your 'companion' who was shot earlier is still there in the middle of the road. As you watch, they slowly begin to fade away. There was no time to pull them aside, to offer them last rights. And to be truthful, there are more pressing matters on your mind. You need to get out of there....
Huh. Just as I thought-they are all shadows, like Eir, Rei noticed. "Hey, Teels." He called one shadow 'companion', its name automatically surfacing on his 'memory'. "-think we can beat them here?"
The shadow surveyed the chasing group. "Depends. Do you want to take on the WHOLE group or defeat their leader in one-by-one match to claim the Grail?"
The Grail. The HOLY Grail. Funny, for this is like role-plaing on a Arthurian legend.
"I'll do the later. Myrk, Heidds, you guys, ready the bows. Louwei, Karrst, you guys move to the entrance when I started to face the leader of those knights. Essya- just to be sure, you and Teels sneak around and set traps around the entrance. If they decided to follow us inside, taking the Grail after we got it for an easy win..." "-let's just say they will end with less one leg than before. Got it."
Darn, that female thief sure likes to play with her beartrap.
Rei, entrusting his mind to that 'memories' took upon his role. "Let's do this. All for one-" "-and one for ALL!" The shadows shouted.
He exited the cover, standing tall. The knights, startled with the sudden movements quickly rushed in, aiming for a kill--
SHUT SHUT SHUT.
Arrows landed just before their feet, making them cower. The archers in the back has already been silenced first.
"I would like to propose a duel! Whoever side wins will obtain the rights to enter that building!"
Slowly, one figure emerges from the line of armor-wearing shadows...
With a thud and a clank, the shadow Knight readies its blade. It says nothing, but it doesn't need to. Not when it is fighting with murderous intent!

So...they faced off. The knight readied his sword. Rei... Swung his hand diagonally, summoning a scythe!
He can hear someone's voice on his head. Is this...the weapon's voice? Or is it Eir's?
We entrust our memories to you. Do not let it fade away., it said, before its presence vanished.
"Will do, 'me'." He said, tightening his grasp on the weapon's handle.
The knight attacks! However he blocked the downward slash by knocking away the trajectory. Since it's a full-powered swing, the shadow knight's sides is wide open.
SLASH. Shadow oozes from that opening on the armor.
"Let's dance, knight."

The handle of the scythe is now used to defend from another wide swing. They locked blades, now eyes glaring on each-

The knight headbutted Rei! Given the metal helmet on its head, that attack packs quite a punch-for a moment he can see stars on his vision-
"Rei! Dodge!" That was one of the shadow's voice! Shaking his head, he puts on the scythe again to defend himself from a stab- using the long pole like a staff, he knocked the head of the incoming knight- REVENGE YOU CHEAT!

He again diverted the attack, making the black sword embedded itself into the moist soil below, on which he stomped.
"Hiya again."
He gave the helmet a quick hello by using his weapon's hilt like a billiard cue.

The shadows behind him...his 'companions' cheered as they saw his last attack made the knight's movement slower...as it was dizzy. A concussion?
Whatever it is, that gives Rei the opening he wanted. He made his scythe disappears for a second-
And re-summoning it to use as a lance!
It hit the knight dead-center on his stomach. THAT must hurt.

Rei's head twitched. He was getting pulled deeper and deeper into becoming the 'hero' of this falsified memories. "I must end this before it ended up swallowing my memories!" He grunted, giving a smack to the still-crouching knight.

The knight roared! It swung the black blade EVERYWHERE out of rage.
He didn't want to get caught in that reckless act, so Rei jumped back and watches amusedly when it cuts himself. Poor guy.

Uh, just great. Now I can't even move, groaned Rei. The memory has taken over his body, and now he was watching it moves like on auto-pilot.

THE GAUNTLET - PART 2 With the enemies taken care of, you now proceed into the building itself. There is a fountain inside. You and your party use it to quench your thirst and wash off the dust from battle. You are now at full HP.
"That was a great battle! You totally showed that knight who's the boss!" exclaimed the rowdy-looking shadow, resting next to Rei. "No, it was just that he didn't even try to control his swings!"
Then another shadow replied to that comment. Again. Again.
Rei watches as the warm scene plays before himself. The owner of this memories sure have great friends...
"Oh, and that knight dropped this. Do you know what this is? It looks like a gemstone, but..."
The female thief fished something oddly familiar...

They arrived on a long, winding pathway.
"Be careful-"
Essya walked in front of the group, her nose moved as she gives the stale air a good whiff.
"I can smell iron and oil. Thicker than those was blood."
"This pathway was booby-trapped?" Asked Myrk, the one with the best archery skill out of us. "-unless you want your head to have holes on it...do not lift your foot." She said, giggling while pointing to a depressed surface below his feet.
"You can say that earlier!!!"
Either way, the trap is safely defused.
The group resumed their move, more careful than ever.

"Say, can't we defuse the trap as we go?" Rei suggested, but the thief shook her head.
"Most of the traps are built into the building's structure. You must remove all walls and floorings should you wish to defuse them safely. I can, however-" She said as she took a small...nail?
She inserted it into almost non-existant gap in the floor. "-jam them so they won't activate."
Heidds whistled. "Oh, so THAT's what you wanted to do with the nails. You should see the smith's face upon receiving that order of yours-he even asked if you want to make a doll-house!"
