Evie was closing up again at the bakery. It wasn't atypical to be the last one left. Since the nega attack, most of the other girls didn't want to be the last one alone and stuck cleaning up for the day and taking out the trash.
Evie didn't mind. She was a senshi and could take care of herself. Even if lately she had been making good on her promise to Dana; They would both give up the senshi thing and be happy and normal. But she hadn't quite stopped living with that lack of fear yet. She still felt like she was immune to the problems that plagued the normal civilian population, even though she'd pledged to join them.
She turned to lock the door, stuffing the key in her tote back and started the few blocks walk to the bus stop, completely oblivious to the fact there were about to be complications.
But powered down and without her henshin pen there was no way she was capable of sensing the approaching youma who had decided her starseed would make an excellent snack.

Asclepius was out patrolling, her first aid kit rattling in its little backpack as she ran along the roof of an apartment building. She had had her own frustrations at one point in the past, and her henshin pen had spent a few weeks ignored where she had thrown it behind her dresser. But the Senshi of Medicine had decided that her skills and her drive as a healer were too valuable in the battle to ignore. In a way, being Asclepius was, to her, simply another part of her studies as a doctor.
If nothing else, she was getting better at identifying injuries at the hospital that were likely to have been caused by youma.
She could sense another of the monsters close by, just at the end of the block and then down below. The fighting part had come with greater difficulty to Asclepius, but it did tend to be easier to pummel youma than the human agents of the Negaverse. This, she was fairly sure, would be a pretty run-of-the-mill monster removal, unless she was misjudging its the strength of its aura. And as long as there were no normal people caught in the crossfire.
Ah, next building had a large piece metal on the roof, she noticed as she reached the end of the apartment. Asclepius jumped down and winced as the metal warped with an uncomfortable sound briefly under her weight as she landed on it. She paused a minute to check how badly she had dented it with her heels (the spots did not look out of place, at least), then started at a run again to try to reach the youma before it got into too much trouble.

It wasn't the sound of the youma, but rather Asclepius' ungraceful assault on a metal roof in the distance that caught Evie's attention. She whirled around, expecting it to be another Asteroid here to give her crap about her decision making lately, but instead she was faced with a hobbling body and slavering teeth of a youma that seemed like an unfortunate cross between a lantern fish and some road kill.
"Oh shi--"
Instinctively her hand went into her tote bag to grab her pen, but it wasn't in it's usual spot.
Right.
Because she quit.
Suddenly faced with the consequences of that choice, Evie Caffrey was wholly civilian and unable to henshin and took a slow step backwards, hoping not to trigger it into lunging.
"H-hey there..." And suddenly, a senshi ran into view and she linked stupidly. "Hey there."

Asclepius' primary focus in the fight would be the youma. It went against her nature sometimes, to leave an injured civilian to the wayside while she cleaned up a monster first, but she also knew it would do the victim no good to make them both vulnerable to see to first aid while the youma was still attacking. This was why the Senshi of Medicine did not immediately take notice of just who the poor civilian she was rescuing was, but instead came flying down from the nearest roof heels-first at the ugly creature.
"Get back!" she shouted as she made her initial assault. She caught the youma in the eye with one of her heels, but judging by its reaction, the beast had too many spare eyes to be bothered by the loss of one.
When Asclepius thought she had a spare second to glance at the civilian and assess her condition, she had to do a double-take as she recognized Evie. Her momentary bewilderment gave the youma enough of an opening to swipe at her legs, and she stumbled back half a step, dodging too late to avoid a set of fresh clawmarks across her thighs.
"s**t, get away, Evie!" Asclepius called again as she crouched and clenched her fists and prepared to stand her ground. Much as she wanted to get out of the claw range of the youma, or attempt to draw it away from her friend, she was not willing to risk leaving the other girl unprotected when she could not be one hundred per-cent sure the youma would not immediately go for her again.

"Huh?" Evie's voice cracked in bewilderment as she grabbed the strap of her messenger bag with both hands. She had to grab onto something. This senshi not only knew her name, but she was getting slashed at on her account.
And she couldn't even power up to help.
"I-... u-uh..." She stammered out random syllables and took a step back, but couldn't will herself to run and abandon whoever was fighting on her behalf.
At first all she could do was stare on in frozen horror, unable to speak or take action while her brain seized to a halt. She felt her long legs wobble beneath her and she was faced with the choice of either getting a grip or falling over.
"Go--..."Her shoulders heaved as she tried to catch a breath she hadn't even realized she lost. "Go for the underbelly!"

... Right, Evie would never recognize her while she was Sailor Asclepius. So she had probably just freaked out her friend more than a little, calling her by name. But, on the other hand, maybe the show of familiarity would help in the grand scheme of freakout over the youma attack. Senshi had a bad reputation to some, and it would be easier for the Senshi of Medicine to protect her friend if Evie was willing to work with her.
And it sounded like she was. Asclepius smiled at the stammer of advice, and nodded once quickly before lunging towards the youma with fists at the ready. The beast's unsettlingly large, vacant eyes made good targets, and the brown-haired girl lashed out a few good punches, but its absurdly long teeth and spiney fins jutting out at random directions also made good targets for her skirts to catch on.
She already knew her seifuku would be restored to wholeness the next time she powered up, and so tried not to pay any mind to the sound of tearing fabric as she tried to maneuver to avoid getting any of the rest of her caught on the creature's spines. Theoretically, if she just punched it enough it would give up the ghost and turn to dust, and then there would be no untangling of her train required. And when she saw a chance to follow up on Evie's advice, the Senshi of Medicine kicked upwards at the deathly-white, faintly glowing underside of the youma.

For being a healing senshi, Evie could only stand and watch as the super did an impressive number on the youma, even if at the cost of her dress.
It didn't take much for the damage from the assault to make the thing cower and attempt to flee before one final kick dusted it completely. A short lived battle, but for Evie it felt like it went on forever.
She didn't even do anything, but for some reason she felt out of breath and tired, absolutely exhausted by the mixed emotions of this whole ordeal.
"H-how do you know my name?" Had they met? She had met so few White Moon senshi outside of her safe little Asteroids circle she was sure she would've remembered this one.
But Asclepius had called out her civilian name, not her senshi one.
Evie clutched her bag and stood her ground, trying to figure out this whole event in her head and all of the ways it could've gone better... or worse.

Asclepius stood, tense, crouched, panting as the youma crumbled to dust before her. She rested her hands on her knees a moment, then stood and turned back to Evie; a concerned look came over her features but she left some space, somewhat reluctantly. The senshi had the greatest reputation, and she did not want to scare her off in case Evie was one of the ones who believed the White Moon senshi to be terrorists.
"Are you alright?" she asked, still a bit short of breath, as she took a hesitant step towards her. "I have a first-aid kit if you got hurt or anything." The Senshi of Medicine shrugged the little backpack off and held it up to show the other girl.
And really she should have expected Evie's question. It had been a bit of a slip-up in the heat of the moment, something Asclepius had not fully thought out in favor of the desire to protect her. As badly as she wanted to share her secret with one of her only decent friends from the darkest days of high school, Asclepius was not sure she could reveal such information.
"I- I know you, as a civilian," Asclepius replied awkwardly. "Being a senshi, it hides my normal self from you completely, so you would never know, of course, but ... I'm a friend. I promise."
She ventured another step closer, and held out her hand. "You are okay, right? Not hurt?"Carneli (( ps I love your avatar right now! ))

"I'm fine," Evie stated shakily, still clutching her bag strap with both hands, and tightly enough one of the pin faces as cutting into her palm.
"Thank you," She whispered and heaved out a massive breath like she was hit with some sort of invisible weight. She looked from the youma dust, and then to the senshi, and for some reason could feel tears welling up in the corners of her eyes.
"I'm sorry," She murmured quietly, but ended up choking it out, "I'm so sorry, did you get hurt? I should've helped but I-- I just..." She was panicking more now than she had when the youma was kicking. Her breathing quickened and her hands shook, followed by her head. "I should've done something."
She was thinking of the worst case scenario now, which was, what if Asclepius had gotten hurt? Saving a senshi who had left their pent at home in some weak attempt to be normal?
Her worked up guilt over a possibility that hadn't happened seemed to overtake any concern she might've otherwise had for a civilian friend running around as a senshi.

Blood ran down Asclepius' legs in a few places form shallow scratches across her thighs; she honestly did not really notice it until Evie asked if she was hurt. The cuts started stinging viciously the second the senshi thought about them, and she moved gingerly to the curb, but she was fairly certain that the wounds were not bad at all as long as she took care of them.
"Just a little, but it mostly just hurts," she replied. Taking a seat on the curb, she shrugged off her little backpack and unzipped it, taking out the first aid kit inside. It had been replenished and repacked a few times, but it was still in the original plastic box. With a crack from having been used as a weapon once upon a time.
The brown-haired girl mostly wanted to keep her friend calm. The real threat was gone now, but Evie seemed to be freaking out more.
Once seated, she pulled her long skirts over her legs to hide the scratches, and focused on her friend. "It's okay, you stayed safe, and that's all you needed to do. The youma is gone." At least Evie was not calling the police on her for being a senshi or anything. "Sit here with me for a few minutes if you need to, take a deep breath, and try to relax, okay?"

"Please let me help," Evie did sit down, but not to calm down. Instead she made an attempt to push Asclepius to let her wrap her wounds.
"You don't understand," She said finally when she'd managed to stop hyperventilating. "I--... I should've been able to take care of myself. I would've... if I,,, I mean if..."
She cringe and swallowed hard, eyes focused on the scratches rather than Asclepius' face. "If I didn't quit and leave my henshin pen at home..."

Asclepius set the first aid kit in her legs, then took Evie's hands gently in her own. "Shh, don't worry, okay?" she urged her friend gently, hoping she did not sound too stern. "Take a few deep breaths and calm down first, and then you can put on bandages, okay?"
She considered powering down for a moment, but decided that it might not be the best thing to reveal her identity to Evie now if the other girl really felt so guilty about this whole ordeal. It was reassuring, at least, to know that Evie was on her side. Asclepius also realized that the stinging, burning pain of the scratches would likely be more difficult to ignore in her more fragile human form. As it was, the Senshi of Medicine was putting a good deal of effort into not letting the pain show on her face.
She could not blame her for wanting to quit at all. Lord knew Marcella had had plenty of moments of doubt herself, as well.
"Shh, look at me and take a deep breath, okay, Evie?" She placed the girl's hands lightly on top of the plastic first aid kit with its cracked lid, and kept her own hands resting lightly over her friend's. "This fighting, it's a hard thing they've asked us to do. I'm sure there's plenty of good you've done with the henshin pen, and there'll be time to do plenty more when you're ready. What's happened is done. Let's focus on right now, okay?"

Evie sniffled, and for being six feet tall suddenly felt like a tiny, useless speck of dust. An immature little kid who completely ******** up her opportunity to do something.
"Okay," She murmured, squeezing Asclepius' hand and then moving to run a free finger down the crack in the first aid kit. This senshi was a healer, and here she was out fighting on her behalf. Why could Eunomia, who had such advantageous abilities for actually fighting, manage to do that? She was honestly wondering.
"Thank you," She said, a repressed sob stuck in her throat as she reached for the bandages. "For saving me, and for... I don't know... thanks..."

"It's no problem to help, I promise," Asclepius replied, letting go of Evie's hands to flip open the latches on the first aid kit box. "When you're ready to fight again, add me to your senshi phone, and call me if you ever need help again. I'm Sailor Asclepius."
Maybe she had even met Evie while she was powered up in the past and just didn't know. Living two lives was so strange sometimes, and, as her tearful friend reminded her, not at all easy.

"...Right," Evie answered like she was going to choke on that word at any second and just nodded.
'When you're ready to fight again' kind of stung because Evie had never really considered being ready to fight again, if ever. Normalcy was a future for her, not a state of present being she was aspiring to, and that future didn't leave any room for this sort of thing.
It wasn't anything new to her mess of feelings, but a good summary of why she was feeling them. Because how could she justify letting other people fight for her when she had the tools to fight for herself?
"I... I have some things to think about," She said, looking down at her hands as her fingers twisted anxiously in her lap. She got up and gathered her messenger bag before looking back down to the super senshi. "Are you going to be okay?"
